Jesse E. Heath
Jesse E. Heath, 40, died on Sunday, Sept.19, 2004, in the San Juan National Forest after becoming lost while hunting. The cause of death is unknown.
He was born on June 8, 1964, in Berlin, Germany, to Floyd and Dorothea Heath.
Mr. Heath graduated from high school at Eleva Strum Central High School in Eleva, Wis., and then lived in Glenwood Springs, Fruita and Grand Junction.
He was a songwriter and musician who worked as a bartender and server at Red Lobster in Grand Junction and had lived in Fruita for 10 years at the time of his death.
Mr. Heath was an avid fly fisherman who liked golfing, hiking, singing and performing.
One of his favorite things was skiing with his son Carlin Walker Heath.
He is survived by his son Carlin Walker Heath of Moab, Utah; parents Floyd and Dorothea Heath of Grand Junction; sister Heidi Fay of Grand Junction; brother Michael Heath of Battlement Mesa; and grandparents Frank and Helma Heath of Osseo, Wis., and Wilhelm and Ursula Schalow of Berlin, Germany.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Canyon View Vineyard Church in Grand Junction.
Ruth Leila Holgate Davies
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth Leila Holgate Davies, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at her daughter Claudia Abernathy's home in Roswell, N.M. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Mrs. Davies was born June 1, 1922, to George L. and Fannie Dove Slade Holgate.
She was one of eight children, and all of her siblings preceded her in death. She married Hughie R. Davies Jr., on May 6, 1939, in Kline.
She will be remembered for her cooking, especially for cinnamon rolls, rum cakes and popcorn balls. Her family will also remember her strength to endure and the love that she shared with family and friends.
Mrs. Davies lived with her son Richard Davies in Roswell, N.M., during her later years, where she was a member of the Roswell Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hughie Davies and her daughter Leanna Dove Davies.
Mrs. Davies is survived by daughters Claudia Abernathy of Roswell, N.M., and Merlene Boice of Tempe, Ariz.; sons Richard Davies of Roswell, N.M., Ronald Davies of Temple, Texas, and Larry Davies of Houston, Texas; four sisters-in-law, including Pauline Holgate and Gladys Davies, both of Durango; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral was held Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, conducted by Bishop Gary Teare, with the Roswell Second Ward.
A viewing and family prayer will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington St., in Farmington. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kline, with graveside services conducted by Bishop Trent Taylor, of Redmesa.
Victor Shane Gallegos
A resident of Mancos for most of his life, Victor Shane Gallegos, 26, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, near Mancos. The cause of death was injuries suffered in a car accident.
He was born on July 4, 1978, in Farmington to Victor C. and Romelia Debra Ruiz Gallegos. He married Amanda Chaloupek in Las Vegas, Nev., on Feb. 13, 1998.
Mr. Gallegos was employed as a house painter. His family will remember him as a loving father, brother and son.
"He was always so full of life," said his aunt Debbie Hull, of Oxford. "He just loved being with his dad and he adored his daughter and was anxious to see her again."
Mr. Gallegos also enjoyed tinkering on cars with his grandfather Victor Gallegos Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Gallegos of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter Makayla Gallegos of Las Vegas, Nev.; parents Victor and Romelia Gallegos of Mancos; brother Lucas Gallegos of Denver; sister Melissa Shefferd of Nebraska; grandparents Victor and Josie Gallegos and Bertha Valdez, all of Mancos; one nephew; and numerous uncles and aunts.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today and a funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, both at Hood Mortuary. The Rev. Raymond Maestas, with Calvary International Assembly, of God will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos.

Virginia May Corn
An active member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Virginia May Corn, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at her home in Bayfield. The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
Mrs. Corn was born in Elmira, N.Y., on Oct. 10, 1921, to James and Mabel May. She attended secretarial school in Washington, D.C., and then went to work at the Pentagon, where she met her husband. She married Palmer B. Corn in August 1950 in Langley, Va.
As a military family, they lived in many different places including Panama, Virginia, South Carolina and Denver. Upon Lt. Col. Corn's retirement, the family settled in Parker. After her husband died in 1988, Mrs. Corn moved to Durango to be closer to her daughter's family.
She was active as a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center and in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid bridge player, and she enjoyed gardening, painting and reading.
"Mom was always on the run, always willing to volunteer and was the first one to call when you needed (to be put) on the prayer chain," said her daughter, Lisa Van Den Berg. "She enabled me with my dreams and aspirations, and she sacrificed much for her family. Mom was a good soul and a generous heart."
Mrs. Corn was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Van Den Berg of Bayfield; granddaughter Becky Van Den Berg of Durango; grandson Matthew Van Den Berg of Bayfield; sisters Helen May of Elmira, N.Y., and Ann May of Naples, Fla.; four nieces and three nephews.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday and a Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, both at St. Columba Catholic Church. The Rev. James Koenigsfeld will officiate.

Colleen Ann Yazzie Pacheco
Originally from Ignacio, Colleen Ann Yazzie Pacheco, 52, died on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Santo Domingo Pueblo, N.M. She was killed in a car accident.
Mrs. Pacheco was born on Nov. 8, 1951, to Frank and Ruth George Beyale Yazzie. On May 3, 1975, she married Larry Pacheco at the Santo Domingo Pueblo Catholic Church. She worked as a pharmacy technician for St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M.
Called "Korn" by the people who were close to her, Mrs. Pacheco liked the color purple and loved the simplicity of life.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Trudy Lynn Pacheco and by her mother, Ruth Yazzie, earlier this year.
Mrs. Pacheco is survived by her husband, Larry Pacheco of Santo Domingo Pueblo, N.M.; daughter LaCher Pacheco and son Amidooli Pacheco, both of Santo Domingo Pueblo, N.M.; grandson Heyashrum Pacheco of Santo Domingo Pueblo, N.M.; grandmother Crescincia Pacheco of Santo Domingo Pueblo, N.M.; sisters Esther Yazzie of Cortez, Susie Muller of Belen, N.M., Mary Ann Yazzie of Globe, Ariz., Charlotte Corrales of Farmington, N.M., and Janet Baird of Baltimore; brother Martin Yazzie of Cortez; and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1700 E. Empire St., in Cortez. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

Ronald 'Gig' Walden
A memorial service for Ronald E. "Gig" Walden, who died on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Iron Horse Inn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to replace the scoreboard at the Durango High School baseball field in memory of both Mr. Walden and his son Kevin Walden. Beth Schumacher
Beth Schumacher, 27, a graduate of Fort Lewis College and former resident of Durango, died in April.
She grew up in Littleton and graduated from Columbine High School. Ms. Schumacher lived in Durango from 1993 to 1997. While at FLC, she was involved in Outdoor Pursuits, including guiding a two-week river trip. She also worked at Hesperus Ski Area.
She had lived in Telluride for the last few years, teaching preschool at Tots. She was involved in the "Art in Your Park" program.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the top of Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride. A reception will follow at noon at the West End Tavern in the town of Telluride.

The cause of death was suicide.
Helen Frances Manzanares
Former Durango resident Helen Frances Manzanares died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in Farmington. The cause of death was not disclosed. She was 71.
Mrs. Manzanares was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Durango to Manuel Martinez and Lupe Gallegos.
She married Frank Manzanares and lived in Durango, where she was a homemaker until the family moved to Farmington in 1978. Mr. Manzanares worked for the city of Durango and then as a deputy with the La Plata County Sheriff's Office.
"Our mom was the light in our eyes and the laughter in our hearts," her family said. "Our mom always had a hug and a kiss for all of us as well as a shoulder to lean on. She especially loved her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her and will always be in our heart."
Mrs. Manzanares is preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Manzanares; three grandchildren, Kenneth David Johnson, Manuel Manzanares and John Paul Delgado; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie Monclova and Starr Martinez.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank Manzanares of Farmington; two sisters, Priscilla Samora and Louisa Runne of California; 10 daughters, Linda Martinez, Mary Jones, Roberta Monclova, Beverly Atencio, Audrey Johnson, Annette Delgado, Janet Delgado, Cindy Manzanares and Sandra Rue, all of Farmington, and Caroline Martinez of Bayfield; 13 grandsons, Steve Martinez, Geoffrey Martinez, Eric Manzanares, Robert Atencio Jr., Joshua Atencio, Billy Johnson, Tony Delgado Jr., Ernie Delgado, Phillip Delgado and Matthew Rue, all of Farmington, Dominick Martinez of Bayfield, Nicholas Atencio stationed in Korea with the Air Force and Lloyd Johnson stationed at Coronado Island with the Marines; 13 granddaughters, Amy Garcia, Cecelia Monclova, Patricia Martinez, Jessica Atencio, Amanda Atencio, Kayle Atencio, Brandy Atencio, Brittany Manzanares, Veronica Furuya, Frances Valenzuela, Sabrina Manzanares, Valerie Manzanares and Sara Rue, all of Farmington; 24 great-grandchildren and five more on the way.
Viewing will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmington. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango.
Mrs. Manzanares will be buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
Lois Marie Stinson
Lois Marie Stinson died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M. She died of natural causes. She was 80.
Mrs. Stinson was born April 15, 1924, in Durango, the daughter of Russell and Ora Frame.
She grew up in Durango and graduated from schools here. She was a homemaker and caregiver and a lifetime member of the Marvel Grange No. 479.
She drove a school bus for many years. She enjoyed hiking and artifacts, and crafts such as crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting.
Life on a farm and ranch necessitated that Mrs. Stinson learn to perform labor including carpentry. She was an excellent cook and prepared many large meals for her family.
"Anyone who came to her house was fed," said her children. "She was busy all the time and hardly ever sat still. She was very involved with us in our many activities."
Mrs. Stinson is preceded in death by her husband, James Stinson.
She is survived by her son, James Stinson of Albuquerque; two daughters, Marie Gray of Los Alamos and Judy Crocker of Montrose; one brother, Troy Frame of Marvel; a sister, Myrna Easley of Farmington; eight grandchildren, Chris, Cody and Tracie Stinson of Albuquerque, Tammy Jansen of Salt Lake City, Debbie Freeman of Montrose, Alvin Towell of Delta, Bill Conner of Cortez and Tina Mahaffey of Yellow Jacket; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her companion Armine Harris of Hesperus.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hood Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Myron Darmour officiating.

Burladeen 'Dena' Warren Lang
Longtime Durango resident Burladeen "Dena" Warren Lang, 78, died Sept. 5, 2004, in Temecula, Calif. Cancer was the cause of death.
Mrs. Lang was born Sept. 17, 1926, to Olive and Albert Warren in Grand Junction. When she was 2, the Warrens moved to Durango.
She touched many lives during her long career in food service and will be missed, her family said. She worked in many of Durango's landmarks: Mandarin Restaurant, Chief Diner, the Strater Hotel and most recently the Hampton Inn.
Mrs. Lang enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and watching the beauty of nature pass her window in the early light of the morning.
She is survived by two sisters: Sarah Rosa of Oklahoma City and Darla Emmons of Billings, Mont.; two children: Robert Wong of Salt Lake City and Cathy Davis of Temecula; and three grandchildren: Cassie Warburton of Salt Lake City and Maile and Aliyah Davis of Temecula.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango.
