Geraldine Ames
Geraldine Marguerite "Jerry" Ames of Delta died on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004. She was 92.
Mrs. Ames was born on May 8, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank and Josephine (Willette) Grady. She spent her childhood in Chicago, graduating from Chicago Visitation High School. She attended the University of Chicago for a chemistry degree.
She married Hal Ames on June 23, 1940, in Moab, Utah. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ames was a homemaker and worked with her husband on a branch. She was a bus driver for School District 51 for 15 years and a Democratic Judge of Elections for 30 years. She lived in Gateway from 1940 to 1998. They moved to Grand Junction for three years, before moving to Delta two years ago. She enjoyed reading, traveling, her dogs, horseback riding, watching movies, visiting with the children living on Newport Circle and crocheting. She made numerous afghans for friends and family.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Daniel and Janice Ames of Bedrock, David and Ruth Ames of Moab, Utah, and Stephen and Margaret Ames of Battle Mountain, Nev.; a daughter and her husband, Rosemary and Jack Castro of Delta; nine grandchildren, Anniel Littlejohn and her husband John, Teresa Hendricks and her husband Kevin, Julie Ames, Leslie Ames, Jerry Ames, Dennis Ames and his wife Jennifer, Mark Ames, Jack Jr. Casto and his wife Lisa, Alice Thomas and her husband Duane; a stepgrandson, David Larson; eight great - grandchildren, Colt Littlejohn, Brand Littlejohn, Logan Littlejohn, Abbey Hendricks, Aspen Ames, Matt Casto, Caleb Casto and Dylan Thomas; a sister and her husband, Teresa and Pete Zelkovich of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs Ames was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Ames; five sisters; and a grandson, Daniel F. Ames Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Callahan - Edfast Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Nucla Cemetery
at 2:30 p.m. A potluck dinner for family and friends will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the Gateway Community Building.

William Kendrick
William J. "Billy" Kendrick of Delta died as the result of a car accident on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, near Hotchkiss. He was 49.
A memorial service was held on March 2, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, with Pastor Roger Odegard officiating.
Mr. Kendrick was born on April 27, 1954, in Colorado Springs, to William G. and Wanda M. (Owens) Kendrick. He spent his childhood in Colorado Springs, graduating from Lewis Palmer High School in 1972.
He married Pamela A. McKenzie in 1978. The marriage was later dissolved.
Mr. Kendrick was a master carpenter, working in Avon, Vail, Carbondale, Palmer Lake, Monument and numerous other communities in Colorado. He enjoyed fishing, hiking and people.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Jess and Sarah Kendrick of Oak Harbor, Wash.; his parents, Bill and Wanda Kendrick of Delta; two sisters and their husbands, Pamela and Keith McGee of Delta, and Dianne and Gene Mosteller of West Liberty, Ohio; and a grandson, Derek Ryan Kendrick.

Ackerman, Rex - - (1943 - 2004)
Rex Edward Ackerman of Crawford died on March 31, 2004, at his residence. He was 61.
A graveside funeral service was held on April 6, at Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Paonia, with James Gall officiating.
Mr. Ackerman was born on Jan. 18, 1943, in Independence County, Ark., to Edward and Harolyn (Rice) Ackerman. He spent his childhood in Lyons. He graduated from high school in Mount Miguel, Calif., in 1961. He attended San Diego State College in San Diego, Calif.
He lived in Morton, Wash., for five years before moving to Crawford 4 1/2 month ago. Prior to that he lived in California for many years.
Mr. Ackerman worked for the United States Postal Service for 29 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed gardening, computers and woodworking.
He is survived by a sister, Carol Nations of Crawford; three uncles; two aunts; and numerous cousins.
Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by his parents.
