Maria Amanda Thomasita Herrera
Maria Amanda Thomasita Herrera died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at her home in Durango. The cause of death was not given. She was 83.
Mrs. Herrera was born July 29, 1920, in Mancos, the daughter of Jose Andronico Lobato and Maria Ernestina (Uliberry) Lobato.
Mrs. Herrera enjoyed sewing, dancing, music, bingo and recalling stories about her life.
She cleaned houses and worked at the Easter Cafe and Chief Diner.
She also was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years.
"She was a great woman and was loved by everyone," said her daughter, Mary Rose Benavidez, of Durango.
Mrs. Herrera is survived by a son, Raymond Montoya of Durango; four daughters, Louise Trejo of Farmington, Lillian Schwartzoff of Las Vegas, and Juanita Lucero and Mary Rose Benavidez, both of Durango; two brothers, John S. Lobato of Center and Benny Richard Lobato of Grand Junction; and three sisters, Ruby Espinoza of California, Mary S. Garcia of Durango and Mary Helen Leazer of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Also surviving Mrs. Herrera are 108 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, Max Joseph Montoya, in 1976, and a daughter, Mary Carol Sage, in 1981.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph L. Gallegos officiating. Recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. today. At the request of Mrs. Herrera, there will be no visitation or viewing.
Burial will take place at Greenmount Cemetery.
Zella May Seaborn
Zella May Seabourn died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Sunshine Gardens West in Durango. The cause of death was not given. She was 91.
Mrs. Seabourn was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Hotchkiss, the daughter of Henry and Eva May Oosterhous.
She married Glenn Bradford Seabourn on June 5, 1937, in Delta. The couple owned and operated Wallace Furniture in Durango. During a 59-year marriage, the couple skied during the winter and went four-wheeling in the summer. Mrs. Seabourn was active in sewing and gardening groups, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Seabourn is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Seabourn of Frisco; two sons, Ronald Seabourn of Durango and Dennis Seabourn of Arvada; a sister, Alice Christiansen of Delta; a brother, John Oosterhous of Delta; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Orin Oosterhous, and her husband.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hood Mortuary, with the Rev. Aaron Hatfield, with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Greenmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the La Plata County Humane Society.
Rolland A. Rollie' Stearns
Rolland A. "Rollie" Stearns, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Sunset Manor in Brush. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Mr. Stearns was born on June 29, 1928, to Georgia (Wagner) Stearns and William Stearns in North Platte, Neb.
After his retirement from the University of Nebraska, he returned to North Platte where he married his third wife, Connie Gurwell, on Aug. 25, 1996. Previous wives were Theresa Still, whom he married in 1949; and Norma Pittingon, whom he married in 1964.
He moved to Colorado to be closer to his family in 2001. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church and a Boy Scout leader.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Gurwell.
Mr. Stearns is survived by his children: Mary Brown of Durango, Jerilyn "Jerri" Stearns of Lodi, Calif., Connie Pittingon of San Diego, Calif., and Douglas Stearns of Alpena, Mich.; his sisters: Marilyn Walker of North Platte, Neb., and Marie Emerson of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon until 6 p.m. today and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte. A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Salvation Army Church in North Platte. Capt. Kris Wood will officiate. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte.
A memorial has been established, dedicated to the Salvation Army.
Juanel Harris McCoy
Juanel Harris McCoy, 67, who had lived in Bayfield for nearly 50 years, died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at her home. She died of natural causes, said her son, Derek McCoy.
Mrs. McCoy was born May 15, 1936, in Seneca, N.M., the daughter of Juanita and Ted Harris.
She married Donald D. McCoy on March 7, 1959, in Clayton, N.M. Mrs. McCoy worked for the Bayfield School District for more than 20 years as a teacher's aide until she retired this summer. She had extensive community ties.
"My mother was very well-liked by everyone in the community and the school system," said Derek McCoy.
She is survived by her husband, of Bayfield; her mother, of Seneca, N.M;, her children: Thedra McDowell of Clayton, N.M., Jesse Gonzales of Bayfield and Derek McCoy of Bayfield; her grandchildren: Brett McDowell of Roswell, N.M., Beau McDowell of Red River, N.M., Matt and Monica Gonzales of Bayfield, and Kayla and Kelton McCoy of Bayfield; her brother, Doyle Harris of Clayton; her sister, Sally Reeves of Albuquerque; and 13 nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Church of Christ in Bayfield. Gene Chapin will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.

John Edward "Oscar" Golmon
John Edward "Oscar" Golmon, 59, died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his home south of Durango, near the New Mexico border. He died of kidney failure related to diabetes, said his niece, Gayle Dunlap.
Mr. Golmon was born in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 23, 1944, the son of Velma Lee Hoggatt and John "Jay" Golmon Jr.
He moved from New Orleans to the Durango-Farmington area in the late 1970s. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam. When he left the Air Force, he joined the General Services Administration in Farmington and retired as manager. Mr. Golmon also maintained a private practice as an accountant and bookkeeper.
He enjoyed hot springs and all of the outdoors, particularly hiking and camping.
"He dedicated his life to helping his sister and mother, his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and anybody else he met along the way who needed help. He was like a dad to all of us," said Gayle Dunlap, a niece.
Mr. Golmon is survived by his mother, Velma Golmon of Durango; his sister, Gwendolyn Bing, of Aztec; his nieces: Susan Bing of Houston, and Gayle Dunlap of Aztec; his nephews: Robert Lloyd Bing III and Mark Bing, both of Pasadena, Texas, and Patrick Bing of Durango; his great nieces: Hannah and Alanis Bing and Ashley Dunlap; and his great nephews, Jacob Dunlap and Johnathan Moritz.

Charles Colletti
Charles Colletti died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, of natural causes at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. He was 85.
Mr. Colletti was born in 1918, and he was raised in the Italian neighborhood in Denver. Much of his working life was spent as a deliveryman for a number of Denver firms. As a youngster he delivered Western Union telegrams by bicycle in downtown Denver.
Mr. Colletti was a World War II veteran. A wartime injury caused permanent disabilities.
Moving to Durango in 1998, he made friends easily and was well-liked by the staff members and residents of Four Corners, his family said.
In his later years he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, and was growing in his faith.
He is survived by his ex-wife Doris Colletti; a son, Charles J. Colletti of Denver; three stepdaughters, Bonnie Templeton of Denver, Barbara Gyrion of Hudson, and Susan Gonzales of Las Vegas; a stepson, Raymond Racine of Denver; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Mazzella of Groton, Conn., and nephew Michael Brennan of Durango.
No services are planned.
Faye Ann Harris
Faye Ann Harris, 51, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at her home in Durango. She died from complications of leukemia.
Miss Harris was born June 17, 1952, in Roosevelt County, N.M., the daughter of Floyd and Phyllis (Cox) Harris. She was a longtime Durango resident and was a second-grade teacher for 15 years at Needham Elementary School, starting in 1978. She retired from teaching but continued to educate herself, earning degrees in massage therapy and computer science. She enjoyed reading, studying and watching movies. She was very proud that she was well-traveled.
"All things lead toward the good, and God loves them, and will be there when others won't or can't. God loves you. Jesus loves you and is there. I'm doing my best ... I am working on ... I am loving, I am peaceful, I am content," Miss Harris wrote in a letter to her family.
She is survived by a son, Dustin Ragland of Henderson, Nev.; two brothers, Doug Harris of Durango and Glen Harris of Loveland; a sister, Beth Flaugh of Alamosa; and several nieces and nephews.
At Miss Harris' request, there will be no services. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Joan Leitritz Bryant
Joan Leitritz Bryant, 62, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. The cause of death was cancer, according to information supplied by Hood Mortuary.
Mrs. Bryant was born Sept. 9, 1941, in Shell Lake, Wis., the daughter of Harry and Alice Leitritz. She married David Lawrence Bryant on May 29, 1964, in Evanston, Ill. Mrs. Bryant moved to Durango for the first time in 1987, staying for 6½ years, and she returned for the last 6 years of her life. She had also lived in Evergreen and before 1987 she lived in Prospect Heights, Ill., and Chicago. Mrs. Bryant worked with animal-rights charities and had been an activist for animal rights for many years. Through her working life she has served as an administrative secretary in three different industries.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband, of Durango; two sisters, Eva Davis of Saint Charles, Ill., and Harriet Mudra of Durango; and several nieces and nephews.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.

Frank A. Gallegos
Frank A. Gallegos, 62, a lifelong resident of the Durango area, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Aurora. He died of natural causes, his wife, Theresa G. Gallegos, said.
Mr. Gallegos was born April 3, 1941, in Messitas, the son of Cora (Gurule) Gallegos and Max Anacieto Gallegos. He married Theresa G. Valdez in 1962 at Aztec.
Mr. Gallegos graduated from Silverton High School, then worked as a hard-rock miner in Silverton. He enjoyed all outdoor pastimes including hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.
"He loved his children and grandchildren and me," Mrs. Gallegos said. "He also loved animals. He once said ‘If I had all the money in the world, I would feed all of the animals.'"
Mr. Gallegos is survived by his wife, of Durango; his children: Frankie C. Gallegos, Rocky A. Gallegos, and Michelle Vigil, all of Durango; his brothers, Dr. Carl Gallegos of Chestertown, Md., and Robert Gallegos of Farmington; his sister, Maereen Zufelt of Bayfield; his grandchildren, Faith Gallegos of El Paso, Texas; Joseph Vigil and Brandon Gallegos, both of Durango; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary Chapel and a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ignatius. The Rev. Eddy Andary will officiate. Burial will take place at Greenmount Cemetery.

James Henry Roberts
James Henry Roberts, 54, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at his home in Durango.
Mr. Roberts was born Nov. 9, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo. His family moved to San Diego when he was in junior high school. He graduated from Point Loma High and received his degree in accounting from San Diego State University.
After graduation he worked for Arthur Andersen Accounting and Motorola Corp. Later, he was a partner in the accounting firm of Gerald Larsen, and he renamed it Larsen and Roberts when he became sole owner. He recently retired because of health problems. Mr. Roberts and his wife, Carol, and son Jordan relocated to Durango in April 2001.
Mr. Roberts loved trains and had an extensive G-scale garden railroad at his homes in San Diego and Durango. As a young man he loved to ski, but living in Southern California and working as a certified public accountant left him little time to pursue the sport. Last winter he revived his interest, and in a short amount of time he returned to his skiing form, his wife said.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 29 years; a son, Jordan Roberts of Durango; his parents Ralph and Margaret Henderson of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Barbara Hecht of Shawnee, Kan.; and his twin brother, John Roberts of Independence, Mo.
A memorial service will be held in San Diego later in the year when his ashes will be spread to sea.
