Willard Kenneth Livingston
An Excellent Orchardist
Dec. 9, 1916 - March 9, 2001
PAONIA - Willard Kenneth Livingston, age 84, of Paonia, died Friday, March 9, 2001.
Willard Kenneth Livingston was born in Taloga, Okla., on Dec. 9, 1916, the son of Alonzo "Lon" and Ruth (Dedrick) Livingston. The oldest of 10 children, he grew up on the family homestead near Seiling, Okla., graduating from the Seiling High School.
On Christmas, Dec. 25, 1937, Willard was joined in marriage with Mable Squire in Phoeniz, Ariz. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of three children. Willard and Mable were privileged to share 63 wonderful years of marriage.
In 1940, the Livingstons moved from California to the North Fork Valley where Willard worked as a coal miner, mail carrier, farmer, rancher and orchardist.
Willard was an excellent orchardist and raised "The Famous Sweet Cherries." He established markets throughout Colorado as well as several other states. His grandchildren have fond memories of earning their first paycheck in his cherry orchard. In 1982 Williard retired after 25 years as a bus mechanic and school bus driver for the Delta County School District. He was especially fond of driving the activity bus for various meets and tournaments.
Willard loved both playing and observing sporting events, traveling, fishing and hunting. He was also an expert marksman. Relationships with people, especially family members, were always a priority in Willard's life.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Willard's life include one son, Laddie Livingston and wife Judy, of Paonia; two daughters: Barbara and husband Art Lund, of Grand Junction; Faye and husband Stan Campbell, of Powell, Wyo.; seven precious grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three sisters: Fern and husband Richard Brewer, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Irene Carr, of Hotchkiss; and Phyllis and husband Leroy Rowland, of Moore, Okla.
Willard was preceded in death by both of his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Willard's life will be officiated by Pastor Gaylen Kinser on Tuesday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Paonia Friends Church. The service will conclude at the church.
Private interment will be held in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.; (970) 874-9988.

Margaret B. 'Peg' Leahigh
World War II Veteran
April 25, 1911 - March 9, 2001
MONTROSE - Margaret B. "Peg" Leahigh, age 89, a resident of Montrose since 1978, died Friday evening, March 9, 2001, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Margaret B. Fabel, the daughter of Clarence Fabel and Otilda (Reinhardt) Fabel, was born on April 25, 1911, in Canton, Ohio, where she spent her childhood years, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood.
During World War II, Peg proudly served her country in the United States Navy from November 1942 to January 1944.
On June 19, 1943, she was joined in marriage with Willis "Jack" Leahigh in Corpus Christi, Texas. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of two daughters.
In Peg's younger years while she was growing up, she did sewing. Earlier in her career, she was a legal secretary. Then Peg and Jack became the owners and operators of a glass company where Peg worked as the bookkeeper for years in California. Following their retirement, the Leahighs relocated from Concord, Calif., to Montrose where Peg was a seamstress for many people in the Montrose area.
Jack preceded Peg in death in January 1979 at Montrose.
Peg enjoyed and treasured spending time with her family - while raising their daughters. The girls rode and performed at horse shows and Peg would take them and really enjoyed watching them.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Peg's life include two daughters: Mary Lou and husband Leo Cooper, of Montrose; Jacquelyn and husband George Yamamoto, of Antioch, Calif.; three precious grandchildren: Bonnie Burr and Nick Ladage, of Montrose; Woody Burr and wife Carolyn, of White Mountain Lake, Ariz.; Kristen Cooper, of Montrose; and three great-grandchildren: Brenden, Miranda, and Michaela.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Jack, Peg was also preceded in death by one brother.
At Peg's request, no services are planned.

Robert J. Bryan
Former Ouray/Ridgway Resident
Aug. 14, 1926 - March 10, 2001
MEEKER - Former Ouray/Ridgway resident, Robert J. Bryan, age 74, a resident of Meeker since 1994, died Saturday morning, March 10, 2001, in Grand Junction.
Robert J. Bryan, the son of Clayton J. Bryan and Mary (Perotti) Bryan, was born on Aug. 14, 1926, in Ouray, Colo. He spent his childhood years in Ridgway, where he graduated from the Ridgway High School in 1944, and grew to adulthood.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 8, 1944, until he was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946.
He married Lois Marie Baumgardner on March 18, 1950, in Ouray, Colo. Their lives together were enriched when they became the parents of two sons. Robert and Lois were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary last year in March.
He was employed with the Colorado State Highway Department for 20 years, retiring from the Telluride area.
In 1994, Robert and Lois moved to Meeker where they made their home until the time of Robert's death.
He was a lifetime member of Ouray Elks Lodge No. 492, with a total of 53 years.
Surviving family members who were grateful to share Robert's life include his wife, Lois Bryan, of Meeker; two sons: Robert J. Bryan Jr. and wife Shawn of Tehachapi, Calif.; David A. Bryan and wife Mary Jo, of Denver; and two stepgrandchildren: Jessica Bryan, age 14; and Jim Bryan, age 12, of Tehachapi, Calif.
Other family survivors include one brother, Francis V. Bryan and wife Jackie, of Yellville, Ark.; one uncle, Lawrence and wife Eileen, of Colorado Springs; two aunts: Aunt Louise, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Aunt Paulyne, of Bakersfield, Calif.; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many good friends.
Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Robert's life will be officiated by Paul Nystrom on Wednesday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Ouray.

Pauline K. (Kloberdanz) Aschenbrenner
93-Yr.-Old Homemaker
Nov. 8, 1907 - Feb. 24, 2001
DENVER - Former Montrose resident, Pauline K. (Kloberdanz) Aschenbrenner, age 93, a homemaker and a resident of Denver, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in the Centura Senior Life Center at Denver.
Pauline K. Kloberdanz was born on Nov. 8, 1907, in the village of Rothummel, Saratov, Russia.
In 1928, Pauline married John Aschenbrenner in Montrose. Their lives together were enriched when they became the parents of four daughters. John preceded Pauline in death in 1973.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Pauline's life include three daughters: Marjorie and husband Bob Riggs; Betty Foos; and Lillian Kaestner, all of Denver.
Pauline was the proud grandmother of six precious grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Pauline was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Jo Basta, who died in 1971.
Services in loving remembrance of Pauline's life were officiated on Thursday, March 1, at the Archdiocese of Denver Chapel.
Interment followed the service in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Arthur J. 'A.J.' Luckey
WW II Vet, Loved the Outdoors
June 19, 1923 - March 8, 2001
DELTA - Arthur J. "A.J." Luckey, age 77, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home near Delta.
Arthur J. Luckey, the son of John and Rosann (Gallagher) Luckey, was born on the family farm in Greenleaf, Kan., on June 19, 1923. He grew up in the Greenleaf area and graduated from Greenleaf High School.
A.J. enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor. He proudly served his country in active duty during World War II in the Pacific on the LST 39.
While in the Navy Electrical Engineering School at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, A.J. met Mildred A. Wallace of Saratoga, Iowa. They were married in New Orleans on Oct. 19, 1943, while A.J. was on shore leave.
After his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Denver where he was employed as a tool and heavy equipment salesman. The Luckey family lived in Conifer, Colo., where A.J. operated his own excavating business for 20 years. They then moved to a small farm near Delta eight years ago where they made their home until the time of A.J.'s death.
A.J. was active in many volunteer organizations including Gideons, Kairos, and prison ministry. He was also an active member of the Conifer Community Church in Conifer and the Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear, Colo.
A.J. loved and greatly enjoyed the outdoors, whether riding on his horse, hunting, fishing, or working on the farm. He was noted for saying "Better days are coming." A.J. especially loved and treasured his family, friends, and his equine companions.
Survivors who were blessed to share A.J.'s life include his wife, Mildred A. Luckey, of Delta; two daughters: Ann K. Luckey, of Denver; Jane M. and husband Roger Barrack, of Colorado Springs; and two sisters: Mary Alice and husband Dale Warman; Kathleen and husband Ralph Peters, of Santa Rosa, Calif.
A.J. was preceded in death by both of his parents; and one sister, Madeline Cahill.
Cremation has taken place.

Felix Martinez
Beloved Father, Loved the Outdoors
Oct. 9, 1920 - March 12, 2001
OLATHE - Felix Martinez, age 80, a resident of Olathe since 1957, died Monday morning, March 12, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital & Medical Center at Grand Junction.
Born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Mora, N.M., Felix Martinez was the son of Cornelio Martinez and Benita (Cordova) Martinez. Felix moved with his family to De Beque, Colo., when he was just a baby, where he spent his childhood years, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
On Jan. 16, 1943, Felix was joined in marriage with Anna Avila at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Delta. Their lives were enriched when they became the parents of four children. Anna preceded Felix in death on July 5, 1991.
Felix and his family moved to Olathe in 1957 where they made their home until the time of Felix's death.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church of Olathe.
Felix lived and loved the outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting and fishing. Felix was also an excellent woodcarver. He loved and delighted in the Lord, his family, and his grandchildren. Felix spent hours visiting with his many close friends.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Felix's life include two sons: James Martinez; Steve Martinez and wife Tracy; and two daughters: Barbara and husband Jim Lobato; and Margie and husband Sam Spencer, all of Olathe.
Felix was the proud and loving grandfather of 14 precious grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Alice Martinez, of Las Vegas, Nev.
Along with both of his parents and his wife, Anna, Felix was also preceded in death by one brother, Manuel Martinez.
Vigil for the deceased will be recited on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow the vigil at the chapel.
Funeral Mass in loving remembrance of Felix's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber on Thursday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Olathe.
Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in the Olathe Cemetery

Lorene H. Dahl
Former Montrose Resident
March 20, 1911 - March 12, 2001
FORT COLLINS - Former Montrose and Grand Junction resident, Lorene H. Dahl, age 89, of Fort Collins, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Fort Collins, eight days before she would have celebrated her 90th birthday.
Born on March 20, 1911, in Comanche County, Okla., Lorene H. Hamilton was the daughter of James L. Hamilton and Kathren (Stephens) Hamilton. Lorene graduated from the Montrose County High School in 1928.
On Sept. 8, 1936, she was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Clarence N. Dahl at Montrose, Colo. Their lives together were complete when they became the parents of three sons. Clarence preceded Lorene in death in October of 1997.
The Dahls moved from Grand Junction to Fort Collins in 1997 where Lorene made her home until the time of her death.
She was employed with the Home Federal Savings in Grand Junction.
Lorene was a member of Sunshine Chapter No. 53, Order of Eastern Star in Grand Junction, where she served as Worthy Matron from 1962 to 1963. She participated in reading and art clubs and was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church of Grand Junction.
Surviving family survivors who were blessed to share Lorene's life include two sons: Stephen Dahl, of Fort Collins; Niel Dahl, of Woodenville, Wash.; and six precious grandchildren.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Lorene was also preceded in death by one son, Lynn Dahl; and one sister.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Charles Harry Dickson
A Very Loving Father
July 17, 1927 - March 6, 2001
CRAWFORD - Charles Harry Dickson, age 73, of Crawford, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, near his home.
Charles Harry Dickson was born in San Francisco, Calif., on July 17, 1927, the son of Charles and Leopoldine (Patzner) Dickson. He lived in Susanville, Calif., as a youth and worked on a cattle ranch.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he moved to Big Bear Lake, Calif., where he was a horseshoer and horse trainer, in addition to his meter reading. He retired as a meter reader from the Southern California Water & Electric in Big Bear Lake, Calif.
In the late 1950s, Charles was joined in marriage with Ethel Elizabeth Phillips at Big Bear Lake, Calif. The marriage later ended in divorce.
While living at Big Bear Lake, Charles started a horse club known as Big Bear Valley Sky Riders and was a member of the Mounted Posse.
He especially loved and enjoyed teaching his daughter to ride horses, square dancing, and leatherwork including saddlemaking. Charles was a very loving father.
Survivors very grateful to share Charles' life include his wife, Ethel Dickson, of Big Bear Lake, Calif.; one daughter, Susan Dickson, of Crawford; and one son, David Dickson, of Realto, Calif.
Charles was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Charles' life will be held at a later date.

Donald Lewis Johnson
Former Johnson Greenhouse Owner
June 26, 1914 - March 10, 2001
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Former longtime Montrose businessman and civic leader, Donald Lewis Johnson, age 86, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Newport Beach, Calif.
Donald Lewis Johnson, the son of Steven Johnson and Myrtle (Lewis) Johnson, was born on June 26, 1914, in Champagne, Ill.
On Jan. 24, 1937, Donald married Adele Fowlkes in Denver, Colo. In 1937, the Johnsons moved from Denver to Montrose, where they owned, operated, and managed Johnson's Greenhouse for over 50 years.
Donald lost his beloved wife, Adele, in 1999, after 62 wonderful years of marriage.
He had just recently moved to California and had already made several new friends. He had good times with his family in the last months and remained mentally keen, including a remarkable sense of humor.
Donald served the Montrose community as Rotary Club president, served on the Montrose City Council, and was Mayor for two terms- which he served 20 years apart. He was a lifetime member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, being a member over 60 years. As an Elk member, Donald served as Exalted Ruler, State President, and District Grand Exalted Ruler.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors of Colorado. He was very gentlemanly, gregarious, outgoing, and always saw the beauty in the things around him. Donald will be fondly remembered for his gentle and generous spirit.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Donald's life include two daughters: Sally and husband Gene Dunn, of John Day, Ore.; Sue Ann and husband Larry Beaty, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and one brother, Dr. Robert J. Johnson, of Arizona.
Donald was the proud and beaming grandfather of six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to both of his parents and his beloved wife, Adele, Donald was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Ida T. Barcus
Beloved Mother, Grandmother
Nov. 2, 1922 - March 15, 2001
FRUITA - Ida T. Barcus, age 78, a retired bank teller and a lifetime Fruita resident, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Family Health West Nursing Home in Fruita.
Ida T. Tufly was born on Nov. 2, 1922, at Fruita, Colo., the daughter of Joseph D. and Oka Viola (Lasater) Tufly. She spent her childhood years in Fruita and graduated from Fruita Union High School.
On Jan. 22, 1942, Ida was joined in marriage with Willard Wesley Barcus at Fruita. Willard preceded Ida in death on July 16, 1989, in Grand Junction.
She was a member of the Loma Community Church.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Ida's life include two sons: Joe Barcus and wife Karen, of Grand Junction; Delbert Barcus and wife Francie, of Pickton, Texas; one daughter, Beverly and husband Jim Withrow, of Kremmling; 11 precious grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, John Tufly, of Hotchkiss; and three sisters: Alice Baker, of Grand Junction; Lois Pryor, of Montrose; and Shirley Meints, of Missouri.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Willard, Ida was also preceded in death by four brothers and one great-grandson.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McLean Funeral Home Chapel in Fruita.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to say farewell to Ida will be officiated by Pastor Jim Curran on Monday, March 19, at 3 p.m. in the New Elmwood Cemetery
at Fruita.
