Lula Adelia 'Lou' Hiatt
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother
Oct. 25, 1917 - May 4, 2001
MONTROSE - Lula Adelia "Lou" Hiatt, age 83, a resident of Montrose since 1987, died early Friday morning, May 4, 2001, at Carla's Retreat in Olathe.
Lula Adelia Schroeder was born in Hamler, Ohio, on Oct. 25, 1917, the daughter of Henry Schroeder and Emelia (Meyers) Schroeder. When she was an infant, Lou moved with her family from Ohio to the Colorado Springs area where she spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
On Sept. 29, 1937, Lou was joined in marriage with the love of her life, A. Dale Hiatt, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Lou and Dale's lives together were greatly enriched when they became the parents of five children. They had the joy and privilege of sharing 63 wonderful years together last year in September.
Lou was an active wife and mother.
After raising their family and living most of their lives at Palmer Lake, Lou and Dale relocated to Montrose in 1987 where they made their home until the time of Lou's death.
Lou was raised a Lutheran and her favorite pastime was crocheting.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Lou's life include her husband, Dale Hiatt, of Montrose; five children: A. Dale Hiatt Jr. and wife Darlene, of Colorado Springs; Donna and husband Jerry Greer, of Montrose; Carol and husband Ron Edwards, of Littleton; Betty and husband Danny Daniels, of Hotchkiss; Dean Hiatt and wife Cindy, of Livingston, Mont.; 14 precious grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Bob Schroeder and wife Diane, of Texas Creek, Colo.; and one sister, Ruth Bell, of Wichita, Kan.
Lou was preceded in death by both of her parents; three sisters: Margaret Schroeder - who died as a child; Lillian Curns - Lou's twin sister; Jean Scheele, both of Peyton, Colo.; and one brother, Bill Schroeder, of Colorado Springs.
Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service on Friday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pike's Peak Funeral Home Chapel in Colorado Springs, with Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Lou's life to begin at 1 p.m. in the chapel.
The service will conclude at the chapel, with private interment to take place in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery
at Colorado Springs.

Mildred Ora Nutter
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sisterv
Nov. 8, 1917 - April 30, 2001
ECKERT - Mildred Ora Nutter, age 83, of Eckert, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at her home in Eckert.
Mildred Ora Hitt was born in Red Rock, Okla., on Nov. 8, 1917, the daughter of Elvis and Ora (Humphreys) Hitt. At the age of 7, Mildred moved with her family from Ponca City, Okla., to Delta, where she spent the remainder of her childhood years, graduated from Delta High School, and grew to adulthood.
On Oct. 12, 1938, Mildred was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Leanan K. Nutter in Montrose, Colo. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of nine children. Leanan preceded Mildred in death on July 23, 2000, in Delta.
Mildred was a member of the Orchard City Women's Club and the Friends and Flowers Garden Club.
The love and joy of Mildred's life was her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed making quilts, sewing, and working in her rose garden.
Surviving family members so very blessed to share Mildren's life include five sons: Dan Nutter, Garry Nutter, Jack Nutter, Jeffrey Nutter, all of Montrose; Vernon Nutter, of Delta; and three daughters: Nancy Nutter, of Eckert; Barbara Taylor, of Bicknell, Utah; and Shirley Randazzo, of Delta.
Mildred was the very proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Lillie Davidson, of Delta.
In addition to both of her parents and her husband, Leanan; Mildred was also preceded in death by one son, Richard B. Nutter.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Mildred's life will be officiated on Monday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel at Delta. The service will conclude at the chapel.

Wilma Howard Garrison
Strong-Willed, Very Active Lady
June 15, 1913 - May 2, 2001
CHERRY HILLS - Wilma Howard Garrison, age 87, a retired businesswoman and a resident of Cherry Hills, Colo., died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in Denver.
Wilma Howard was born in Cheyenne Wells, near Arapahoe, Colo., on June 15, 1913, the daughter of Eastern Colorado pioneers William W. Howard and Lenna (Sherman) Howard. Wilma's father homesteaded that area and had the only general store in the area for many years.
She spent her childhood years, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in the same area where she was born. After graduating from high school, Wilma continued to pursue her education at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1931 and graduated from CU in 1935.
Following her graduation from CU, she was employed as a teacher in the Denver area until her marriage. On June 30, 1937, Wilma was joined in marriage with the love of her life, William Garrison, for a lifetime partnership, in Denver, Colo. Their lives together were richly blessed when they became the parents of two children. William preceded Wilma in death.
Wilma was a homemaker as well as being the very successful owner and manager of a real estate investment business.
She was a member of the Wellshire Presbyterian Church of Denver, League of Women Voters, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), P.E.O., Alpha Chi Omega, Cherry Hills School District, Daughters of the American Revolution, and CU Alumni Association.
Wilma loved and enjoyed traveling, being very active in her community, and volunteering her help to many organizations. She especially treasured her "special vacations" with her five granddaughters.
Wilma was very special, unique, and irreplaceable in the lives of all who knew and loved her and know just how fortunate they were to have her touch their lives. She will be loving remembered as being such a strong-willed and very active woman. She will be deeply missed.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Wilma's life include one daughter, Nancy and husband Jerry Weaver, of Montrose; and one son, Howard Garrison and wife Marsha, of Iowa.
Wilma was the proud and loving grandmother of five precious granddaughters: Stephanie, Dru-Anne, Erin, Courtney, and Kristin.
Other family survivors include one nephew, Terry Garrison and wife Venetia, of Littleton; and one niece, Marty Mercer, of Denver.
Services in loving remembrance and to honor Wilma's life will be officiated on Monday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at the Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Blvd., in Denver. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation will be held.

Mira Edith Hendrickson
Kind, Generous, Strong-Willed
May 22, 1902 - April 29, 2001
ECKERT - Mira Edith Hendrickson, age 98, a resident of Eckert for almost 69 years, died after a very short illness Sunday evening, April 29, 2001, at her daughter's home in Olathe.
Mira Edith Matzke was born in Vulcan, Colo., on May 22, 1902, the daughter of William and Carrie (McGregor) Matzke. At the age of 4, Mira traveled with her family from Paradox, Colo., to Craig, Colo., in a Conestoga wagon. When she was 16, Mira homesteaded in Craig, which she later sold to purchase her family's ranch in Eckert. The Matzke family lived and worked on the Gunnison Tunnel Project and Mira's sister, Wilma Kerr, cut the ribbon at the Dedication in 1909.
After graduating from Craig High School, she went to Denver where she worked in a bank, as a dressmaker, and a teacher.
On Dec. 14, 1932, Mira was joined in marriage with the love of her life, Ulysses Hendrickson. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of two children: Neil and Eleanor. Ulysses preceded Mira in death on June 23, 1978.
In 1952 through 1958, Mira worked as a switchboard operator at the Delta County Cooperative in Eckert as well as working on the family's Eckert ranch.
In the year 2000, she received her 65-year pin from the May Queen Rebekah Lodge No. 23 of Eckert.
Mira was a kind, generous, and very strong-willed person. She was described as always having something nice to say about everyone. Memories of Mira's life will be deeply cherished by all who knew and loved her for being a truly awesome lady.
Surviving family members so grateful to share Mira's life include one son, Neil Hendrickson, of Eckert; one daughter, Eleanor Blair, of Olathe; one granddaughter, Margie Johnston, of Olathe; three grandsons: William "Billy" Blair, of Olathe; Charles Hendrickson, of Delta; Earl Dean Hendrickson, a member of the U.S. Marines stationed in California; two great-grandsons; and four great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way due to arrive in October.
Other family survivors include one sister, Margie Ponton, age 92, of Craig; along with in-laws and numerous people who had the honor and privilege of knowing and loving this wonderful lady.
In addition to both of her parents and her husband, Ulysses, Mira was also preceded in death by six sisters: Anna Snyder, Wilma Kerr, Norma Bailey, Jennie Robinson, Ella VanTassel, Emma Braut; and one brother, William Matzke.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Mira's life will be officiated on Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Eckert Presbyterian Church, which her husband helped to build, in Eckert.
Interment will follow the service in the Eckert Cemetery.

Darla Jean Baxter
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother
March 2, 1953 - April 28, 2001
GRAND JUNCTION - Darla Jean Baxter, age 48, of Grand Junction, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in the Bookcliff Manor at Grand Junction.
Darla Jean Hutto was born on March 2, 1953, in Delta, Colo., the daughter of Carl Hutto Sr. and Emogene (Isom) Hutto. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1971.
On Dec. 19, 1990, Darla was joined in marriage with Gordon Baxter at Grand Junction, Colo.
Darla was a wonderful homemaker and loved and enjoyed sewing and making wildflower arrangements.
Her death leaves an emptiness in the lives of all who knew and loved Darla. Her warmth and the memories she leaves behind will always be cherished.
Surviving family members very grateful to share Darla's life include her husband, Gordon Baxter, of Grand Junction; one son, Robert George Woodrow Liddell and wife Celeste; two daughters: Sandra Carlene and husband David Branch; and Shauna Lee Liddell, all of Longview, Texas.
Darla was the proud grandmother of 10 precious grandchildren.
Other family members include three brothers: Dannis Hutto, of Grand Junction; Dallas Turner, of Nucla; Colin Hutto and wife Connie, of Cedaredge; and one sister, Rhonda and husband Dan Witt, of Grand Junction.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; one brother, Carl W. Hutto Jr.; and two sisters: Jorene Donovan and Rebecca Hutto.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor and say farewell to Darla will be officiated by Pastor Lee Ponder on Wednesday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta; (970) 874-8633.
Mary Ellen Ramey
Retired Seamstress
Jan. 15, 1914 - April 28, 2001
ECKERT - Eckert resident, Mary Ellen Ramey, age 87, a lifetime Delta County resident, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Born on Jan. 15, 1914, in Hotchkiss, Colo., Mary Ellen Owens was the daughter of Rowland Owens and Pearl (Averyt) Owens. She spent her childhood years in Leroux Creek, Colo., and attended high school in Hotchkiss where she grew to adulthood.
Mary married Carl Thompson, who preceded her in death.
On July 23, 1949, she was married in Grand Junction, Colo., to Royal Ramey, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1983.
Prior to her retirement, Mary worked as a seamstress.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Cedaredge and belonged to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Among the many loves in Mary's life that brought her happiness and joy during her lifetime included sewing, ceramics, and crocheting. She made the world "special" just by being in it and her memory will live on in the hearts of many.
Surviving family members grateful to share Mary's life include one son, Dwaine Thompson, of Denver; two stepsons: Ed Ramey, of Mobile, Ala.; Sam Ramey, of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Darlene Bergamo, of Clifton; one stepdaughter, Ruby Perdue, of Vallejo, Calif.; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Brandee Bergamo and Charlee Bergamo.
Graveside Memorial Services and inurnment in loving remembrance and to honor Mary's life will be officiated by Rev. Joseph Jones on Wednesday, May 2, at 1 p.m. in the Riverside Cemetery
at Hotchkiss.

DELTA - Mary J. Dausel, age 76, a homemaker and a resident of Delta, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in the Delta Care Center.
Mary J. Cochran, the daughter of James N. Cochran and Carolyn Elmina (Ritchey) Cochran, was born on March 25, 1924, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
On Sept. 16, 1956, Mary was joined in marriage with Henry Dausel in Ely, Nev. Henry preceded Mary in death in Delta.
Prior to making her home in Delta, Mary had lived at Ridgway, Montrose, and Naturita.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of Montrose.
Special interests in Mary's life that brought her happiness included crocheting, embroidery, and reading. Mary raised a grandson from the age of 6.
Survivors include two sons, of Texas and Iowa; one daughter, of Denver; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Other family survivors include seven brothers, of Arizona, three in Iowa, and Utah; and three sisters, of California and Iowa.
Along with both of her parents and husband, Henry, Mary was also preceded in death by three daughters, and two brothers.
No services are planned.

Robert Boyd Frame
A Hard-Rock Miner

GRAND JUNCTION - Robert Boyd Frame, age 47, of Grand Junction, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at his home in Grand Junction.
Boyd was employed as a hard-rock miner for 25 years, traveling all over the United States.
Surviving family members who were blessed to share Boyd's life include his wife, Mari Frame; two daughters: Catrina Ann Frame and Heather Dawn Frame, all of Grand Junction; two stepsons: Andrew Oliver, of Grand Junction; Phillip Oliver, of Thatcher, Ariz.; three stepgrandchildren; his mother, Betty Myers, of Montrose; his grandmother, Edna Lois Myers, of Delta; one brother, Ken Frame, of Evanston, Wyo.; two sisters: Cheri Jeffries, of North Bend, Ore.; Suzette Rowe, of Halam, Pa.; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Homer H. White
Retired Superintendent of Mail
June 26, 1912 - March 1, 2001
MONTROSE - Lifetime Montrose resident, Homer H. White, age 88, died Thursday morning, March 1, 2001, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Homer H. White, the son of William White and Marie V. (Smith) White, was born on June 26, 1912, in Montrose, Colo., where he spent his childhood years, graduated from Montrose County High School, and established his home his entire lifetime.
Homer married Alberta L. Fender at the old St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Main St. in Montrose. Their lives together were enriched when they became the parents of three sons. Homer and Alberta had the joy of sharing 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Early in Homer's career, he assisted his father as a building contractor for White Oakey Contractors. They built the Montrose Courthouse, the old St. Mary's Catholic Church building, and the United Methodist Church in Montrose, to name a few. Then Homer left the building contractor business and was employed with the United States Post Office in Montrose as a carrier, moving to the position of superintendent of mail. He was employed with the Montrose Post Office until his retirement.
He was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church, a Past Master of the Mason, a past president of The Knife & Fork Club, a lifetime member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, B.P.O.E., and a member of the Lions Club.
Homer enjoyed fishing, amateur ham radio, picnicking with his family and friends, and arrowhead hunting. A favorite pastime was working in the yard. All who knew and loved Homer will cherish their memory of him enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
Surviving family members who were bless to share Homer's life include his wife, Alberta White; and one son, Kenneth L. White, both of Montrose.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one sister, who died at birth; and two sons: Robert White, who died as an infant; and Lieutenant Kenneth White, who died later in life.
Private Family Graveside Masonic Services in loving remembrance of Homer's life will be officiated on Tuesday, March 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cedar Cemetery
at Montrose.
