AURORA - A beloved and highly respected family man and community leader, Dale M. Button, age 79, formerly of Montrose, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Aurora.
Dale M. Button was born on Sept. 8, 1921, in Terra Haute, Ind., the son of William and Agnes Button.
In 1947, Dale was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Blanche Burns in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.
Dale was employed as a hospital administrator. He was administrator of Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose from 1961 to 1970.
He was past president of the Colorado Hospital Association, the Montrose Rotary Club, and other associations.
All those who knew and loved Dale know just how fortunate they were to have him touch their lives. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors very grateful to share Dale's life include his wife, Blanche Button, of Aurora; three daughters: Joan Schmitt, of Denver; Gale Sifford, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Sally Jo Button, of Wheat Ridge; four precious grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Other family survivors include one brother, William Button, of Maple Grove, Minn.
Dale was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, Jack Button; and one stepson, John Osborne.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Dale's life will be officiated on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3201 S. Parker Rd., in Aurora. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Cremation has taken place.

Constance Flor
A Positive Thinking Lady
Feb. 5, 1900 - Jan. 10, 2001
MONTROSE - Constance "Connie" Flor, age 100, passed away early Wednesday morning Jan. 10, 2001, at Tina's Guest Home in Montrose. Before moving to Tina's Guest Home, she resided in Ouray for 35 years.
Constance Watts was born in Bristol England on Feb. 5, 1900, the daughter of Frederick and Ellen (Heathly) Watts. Connie received her education in England, coming to the United States to join her brother in Sacramento, Calif. at the age of 16 years.
In 1929, she was married to John Flor, making their home in Larkspur, Calif. until John's death on Feb. 19, 1966. Connie served in the United States Army as a Medical Technician during World War II.
Connie was a lady who always told you how she felt or what she thought - no airs about her. She loved to walk and even in her 90s, she would walk up to Red Mountain Lookout from her home in Ouray. Many people have commented how walking with her was a challenge. She will be remembered for her never-ending smile, a twinkle in her eyes, love in her heart and movement in her legs till the moment she entered into rest.
Connie was the youngest of nine children who all have preceded her in death. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and many, many friends who will miss her dearly.

Graveside memorial service and a celebration of Connie's life is tentatively scheduled to be held on Connie's 101st birthdate, Feb. 5, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Ouray.

James Donald 'Don' Wolfard

MONTROSE - Former Grand Junction resident James Donald "Don" Wolfard, age 94, a resident of Montrose since 1968, died Tuesday night, Jan. 16, 2001, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital at Montrose.
James Donald Wolfard, one of nine children, was born in Rambler, Wyo., on Oct. 12, 1906, the son of Christopher Fothergill and Adelia (Cunningham) Fothergill. He spent his childhood years in Wyoming.
In 1932, Don married Dolores Pack in Aspen, Colo. Dolores preceded Don in death in 1958.
Prior to his retirement, Don was employed as a commercial and private carpenter and contractor.
He moved from Santa Rosa, Calif., to Grand Junction where he resided until 1968 when he moved to Montrose. Don made his home in Montrose until the time of his death.
He loved carpentry work and one of his hobbies he greatly enjoyed was taxidermy.
Survivors very grateful to share Don's life include one son, Douglas Wolfard and wife Pauline, of Bremerton, Wash.; one daughter, Dolores and husband Bill Schultz, of Montrose; eight precious grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as a niece, Carolyn Beane, of Montrose.
Along with his parents and wife, Dolores, Don was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, four brothers, and four sisters.
Cremation has taken place and no service is planned.

Katherine Rose Gallob
Beloved Mother and Grandmother
July 5, 1907 - Jan. 20, 2001
DELTA - Longtime North Fork Valley resident, Katherine Rose Gallob, age 93, a homemaker and resident of Delta, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in the Delta Care Center at Delta.
Katherine Rose Mihelich was born in Coal Basin, Colo., on July 5, 1907, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Bear) Mihelich. She spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood in Bowie, Colo.
On Jan. 23, 1927, Katherine was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Fred William Gallob in Hotchkiss, Colo. Their lives together were blessed with six children and they had the joy of sharing 55 wonderful years before Fred's death on Nov. 17, 1982.
Katherine spent her lifetime in Bowie, Somerset, Paonia and Delta areas until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Paonia and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Hotchkiss Lady Elks.
Katherine's special interests and hobbies that brought her happiness during her lifetime include embroidering, yard work, gardening, and animals.
Survivors very grateful to share Katherine's life include three sons: Joseph Gallob, of Somerset; Frank Gallob and wife Bonnie, of Leadville; Bill Gallob and wife Vera, of Paonia; and three daughters: Kay and husband Jess McCall, of Delta; Mary Anne Schofield, of Florence, Ore.; and Gail and husband Don Fraser, also of Delta.
Katherine was the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother-in-law, Joe Gallob, of Delta; and two sisters-in-law: Blanche Mihelich, also of Delta; and Julie Gallob, of Norwood.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Fred, Katherine was also preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter.
Rosary will be recited by Sister Mary Agnes on Monday, Jan. 22, at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Rev. Mark Bettinger on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Paonia Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in the Cedar Hill Cemetery

Rosetta Lee Barber
Mother of Five Sons

DELTA - Rosetta Lee Barber died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at her home in Delta at the age of 74.
Rosetta Lee Grimes was born in Mounds, Okla., on Nov. 7, 1926, the daughter of Robert and Minnie (Loughlin) Grimes.
On June 30, 1941, Rosetta was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Joseph Barber in Raton, N.M. Together they raised five sons.
In life, Rosetta found happiness and enjoyment in her children, grandchildren, water aerobics at the Rec Center, cooking, sewing, and flowers.
Survivors very grateful to share Rosetta's life include her five sons: Joe Barber, of Montrose; Bob Barber and wife April, of Delta; Larry Barber and wife Keleen, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Kenny Barber and wife Debra, of Washington; and Harley Barber and wife Mavis, of Delta.
Rosetta was the proud and loving grandmother of 13 precious grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Joseph, Rosetta was also preceded in death by two sisters: Noveta and Vina; and one brother, Kenneth.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Rosetta's life will be officiated on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Delta City Cemetery.

Dr. Clyde L. Morrison

MONTROSE - Longtime Montrose veterinarian and World War II veteran, Dr. Clyde L. Morrison, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2001, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose, where he had been a resident for just three days. He died eight days after celebrating his 81st birthday.
Clyde L. Morrison, the son of Clyde Morrison and Loretta (Mahon) Morrison, was born on Jan. 12, 1920, in Buena Vista, Colo. His grandparents moved to Buena Vista and homesteaded in 1862. He was understandably proud of being a "native," and displayed his pioneer plates for all to see. He spent his childhood years, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in Buena Vista.
Clyde's college years were interrupted for five years when he went to serve his country during World War II. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Infantry, 3rd Army Rifle Platoon, serving under General Patton in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Clyde was a natural leader and was a platoon leader during the Battle of the Bulge at the landing of Allied Forces in France. After the war was over, he was stationed in Czechoslovakia.
After returning from Europe in 1946, Clyde married Lee Marie Smith. They had the joy of celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary in 2000. Clyde and Lee met at Camp Shelby in Mississippi, where she was manager of the Post Exchange.
Clyde and Lee returned to Buena Vista and he continued to pursue his education, graduating from Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, with two degrees, a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Clyde chose veterinary medicine because of his deep love of animals and his knowledge of how to handle them.
During his high school and college years, Clyde was active in sports, playing baseball and basketball, and lettered in gymnastics all four years of college. He was also an accomplished equestrian, and was racing horses by age 11.
After graduating from college, Clyde and Lee moved to Wyoming, where he practiced veterinary medicine until 1959. After practicing in Wyoming for several years, Clyde decided during a trip through the Montrose area that the climate was more to his liking than in Wyoming. He decided to relocate and purchased the property where the Montrose Veterinary Clinic and the area around it, including Russell Stover's Candies, are now located.
Clyde and Lee then moved to Montrose and he went into partnership with William A. Wolff, DVM, and built the Montrose Veterinary Clinic. He served the Montrose agricultural community and large and small animals without reservation for 23 years before his retirement in 1982.
Upon his retirement, Clyde and Lee bought a fifth wheel and traveled to Canada, Alaska, Utah, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, and Vancouver Island. They participated in Colorado State University alumni trips to Hawaii, Portugal, Spain, North Africa, Guatemala, and Mexico.
Survivors very grateful to share Clyde's life include his wife, Lee Morrison, of Montrose; one sister, Esther Starbuck, of Buena Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews including his nephew, Dr. Thomas Armstrong, of Montrose.
Along with both of his parents, Clyde was also preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Morrison; and three sisters: Gertrude Cochran, Gladys Larson, and Margaret McMurry.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor and celebrate Clyde's life will be officiated by The Rev. Fred Dare on Friday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Crossman Ave., in Buena Vista.
Inurnment will follow the service in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery
at Buena Vista.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Dr. Clyde L. Morrison's memory, to Montrose Memorial Rehabilitation or the Humane Society.
A book of condolence will be open for the community to sign from Wednesday, Jan. 24, until Wednesday, Jan. 31, both at the Montrose Veterinary Clinic, 2260 S. Townsend Ave. and at Montrose Valley Funeral Home, 505 S. 2nd St., in Montrose.

Monica Joan Grabowski
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother

DELTA - Monica Joan Grabowski, age 68, a former Delta businesswoman, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at her home in Delta.
Monica Joan Maiefski, the daughter of Stanley and Antoinette (Badura) Maiefski, was born on Sept. 6, 1932, in Ashton, Neb., where she spent her childhood years, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood.
On Nov. 25, 1950, Monica was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Ted Grabowski in Ashton, Neb. Monica and Ted were the parents of three children and had the joy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary last year in November.
The Grabowskis moved from Denver to Delta in the spring of 1987 where they made their home until the time of Monica's death.
Prior to her retirement six years ago, she co-owned and operated Delta Rentals.
Monica was a member of the Catholic faith and belonged to the Good Sam's Club, American Assn. of Retired Persons (AARP), the Delta Chamber of Commerce, and a sugar diabetes support group.
Among the many special interests in Monica's life that brought her happiness were camping, traveling, cooking - had numerous books on cooking, sewing, and reading.
Survivors very grateful to share Monica's life include her husband, Ted Grabowski, of Delta; one son, Randy Grabowski, of Denver; two daughters: Thadine and husband Gary Giambalvo, of Garland, Texas; Kim and husband Perry Bearce, of Denver; and three precious grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Ervin Maiefski and wife Eleanor, of Tucson, Ariz.; and one sister, Carol Bandur of Loup City, Neb.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

ECKERT - Nola B. Jones, age 90, of Eckert, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Nola B. Jones, the daughter of Frank and Iva (Dametz) Jones, was born on April 6, 1910, in Codell, Kan., where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. She continued her education at a business college in Salina, Kan.
Prior to her retirement, Nola was employed as an office clerk for 40 years.
She lived in Kansas and California before moving to Eckert in 1994, where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Torrance, Calif.
Survivors very grateful to share Nola's life include one brother, George Jones, of Modesto, Calif.; one sister, Pearl Bates, of Spokane, Wash.; and one brother-in-law, Dr. James Hamilton, of Austin, Colo.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Feliciano Vicente Polanco

MONTROSE - Feliciano Vicente Polanco, age 21, of Montrose, died on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident near Delta.
Feliciano Vicente Polanco, the son of Angel Vicente Rosas and Angelica Polanco De La Cruz, was born on June 21, 1979, in San Joaquin, Mexico.
He was employed in construction.
Survivors include his father, Angel Rosas, of Montrose.
A Vigil Service for Feliciano will be recited by Sister Ladivel Diaz, of Guadalupa Missionaries of The Holy Spirit of Delta, on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be held in the Conocido Cemetery
at Conocido, Mexico.

Ruthe A. Knierim

CEDAREDGE - Ruthe A. Knierim, age 80, a resident of Cedaredge for approximately two and a half years, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home in Cedaredge.
Ruthe A. Leffel, the daughter of James and Mary (Rebert) Leffel, was born on Oct. 29, 1920, in Springfield, Ohio, where she spent her childhood years and grew to adulthood.
On Jan. 5, 1950, Ruthe was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Richard C. Knierim, in Dayton, Ohio. They were the parents of four children and had the joy of sharing 47 years together at the time of Richard's death on Dec. 11, 1998, at Eckert.
The Knierims moved from Black River Falls, Wis., to Cedaredge two and a half years ago where the Knierims made their home until the time of their deaths.
Prior to her retirement, Ruthe was employed in accounting/ business management.
She was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church of Cedaredge.
Ruthe's special interests and loves in life included traveling, theater, cards, camping, and 4-wheel drives.
Survivors who had the honor of sharing Ruthe's life include three sons: Richard C. Knierim Jr. and wife Lisa, of Black River Falls, Wis.; Robert I. Knierim and wife Tammy, of Madison, Wis.; Donald M. Knierim and wife Rosa, of Westmont, Ill.; and one daughter, Ruth A. and husband Gary Joros, of Cedaredge.
Ruthe was the proud grandmother of 11 precious grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Richard, Ruthe was also preceded in death by one brother, John M. Leffel.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Cedaredge.
