Clifford McBride 'Cliff' Wimberly

MONTROSE - Clifford McBride "Cliff" Wimberly, age 80, a resident of Montrose since 1980, died Monday night, Jan. 8, 2001, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital at Montrose.
Born on Nov. 18, 1920, in Hagerman, N.M., Clifford McBride Wimberly was the son of Arthur and Helen (Geyer) Wimberly. He spent his childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in New Mexico. Cliff continued to pursue his education and graduated in 1942 with a BSCE degree from the New Mexico University and received a MSCE degree from the California Institute of Technology.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
In 1972, Cliff was joined in marriage with Elizabeth "Pat" Holland.
Prior to his retirement in 1980, Cliff was employed as an engineer with the Chevron Asphalt Company.
In 1980, Cliff and Pat moved from Tucson, Ariz., to retire in Montrose where Cliff made his home until the time of his death.
He enjoyed being a private pilot. Cliff absolutely loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and horseman.
Survivors who had the honor of sharing Cliff's life include his wife, Pat Wimberly, of Montrose; two sons: Bryan N. Wimberly, of Texas; James N. Wimberly, of Virginia; one daughter, Sue Wimberly, of Virginia; one stepson, Robert A. Corrigan and wife Melinda, of New Mexico; and two stepdaughters: Patricia and husband John Lindh; and Judith Corrigan, all of Montrose.
Cliff was the proud grandfather of 11 precious grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one stepdaughter, Jeannie Dannelley.
At Cliff's request, cremation has taken place and no service is planned.

Lucille L. Freitas
Homemaker, Businesswoman
May 29, 1920 - Jan. 14, 2001
MONTROSE - Longtime Montrose resident Lucille L. Freitas, age 80, a homemaker and businesswoman, died Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2001, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Lucille L. Patton, the daughter of Lloyd and Ada (Peterson) Patton, was born on May 29, 1920, in Cedaredge, Colo., where she spent her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Lucille married Albert P. Freitas on May 4, 1936, in Cedaredge, Colo. They established their home at the family estate, where they worked for a short time at the family coal mine, Red Canyon Coal Mine.
Lucille and Albert then went into the restaurant business and owned Terrell's Cafe in Delta from 1945 until 1952. They left Delta and moved to Montrose where they owned Patty's Drive-In on North Townsend Ave. In 1955, the couple moved to Naturita to operate Al's Cafe. In 1970, Lucille and Albert moved to Pagosa Springs where they resided until their retirement in 1976. They then returned to Montrose where Lucille made her home until the time of her death. Albert preceded her in death.
Lucille was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Montrose.
The loves of Lucille's life that brought her happiness were "color drives," visiting, and being with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors very grateful to share Lucille's life include one son, Philip Freitas and companion Carolyn Santy, of Grand Junction; one daughter, Pat Bacus, of Montrose; three precious grandchildren: Warren Bacus and Trudy Passehl, both of Montrose; Morgan Freitas, of Grand Junction; and four great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Lester Patton, of Montrose; and Earl Patton, of Loveland.
Along with both of her parents and her husband, Albert, Lucille was also preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Ready; and one granddaughter who died in 1975.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lucille's life will be officiated by Elder Lloyd Austin on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedaredge Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home; (970) 249-4400.
B.J. Steele
Especially Loved His Family

MONTROSE - Twenty-year-old B.J. Steele, of Montrose, died late Friday evening, Jan. 12, 2001, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident just north of Landfill Rd. near Montrose.
B.J. Steele, the son of Joe A. and Debbie (Lake) Steele, was born on Oct. 26, 1980, in Montrose, Colo., where he spent his childhood years, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
On May 3, 1998, B.J. married Sherrie Hohbein in Montrose, Colo. Their lives together were blessed when they became the parents of two children.
B.J. loved working with his father, Joe Steele, in the family electrician business.
In addition to his love for his work, B.J. also loved racing his dirt bike, four-wheeling, and the outdoors including hunting. B.J. especially loved his family and was very close to his whole family.
To lose B.J. at age 20 is to miss knowing part of ourselves. He will live in the hearts of those he touched - for nothing loved is ever lost - and he was loved so much.
Survivors left to cherish B.J.'s memory include his wife, Sherrie Steele; one son, Kelby Joe Steele; and one daughter, Shyanne Steele, all of the family home in Montrose.
Other family survivors very grateful to share B.J.'s life include his parents, Joe and Debbie Steele; one sister, Amanda Mae Steele; his grandparents: Joe Steele Sr. and wife Betty; Pat Steele; two uncles: Randy Steele and wife Karen; Bob Lake and Renice; two aunts: Shawna and husband Richard Doney, all of Montrose; and Wendy Steele and Mike, of Denver.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Debbie and husband Zane Brown, of Montrose; his father-in-law, Robert Hohbein and wife Theresa, of Cortez; three brothers-in-law: Rocky Dearing and Jeremy Dearing, both of Montrose; Bobby Hohbein, of Sewell, N.J.; as well as six cousins.
B.J. was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Bob Lake.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to say farewell to B.J. will be officiated by Youth Minister Doug Anderson on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Montrose Christian Church. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation will be held following the service, with private family only inurnment to be held in the Valley Lawns Cemetery
south of Montrose, where B.J. will rest with his beloved grandfather, Bob Lake.

Ila Talbot Little
46-Yr. Delta Area Resident
March 12, 1930 - Jan. 7, 2001
ECKERT - Ila Talbot Little, age 70, a homemaker and a Delta area resident for 46 years, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
Born on March 12, 1930, in Delta, Utah, Ila Talbot was the daughter of Arthur Loren and Golda (Stewart) Talbot. She spent her childhood years, graduated from Hinckley High School, and grew to adulthood in Hinckley, Utah.
On Sept. 12, 1950, Ila was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Sherman Dale Little in Manti, Utah. Ila and Dale were the parents of three children and had the joy of sharing over 50 years together at the time of Ila's death.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Cedaredge.
Ila loved and enjoyed "RVing," crafts, reading, and traveling.
Survivors very grateful to share Ila's life include her husband, Dale Little, of Eckert; two sons: Doug Little and wife Judi, of Grand Junction; Chuck Little, of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Kathi and husband Randy Hanson, of Greeley; and five precious grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her mother, Golda Talbot Christensen, of Delta, Utah; two brothers: Jim Talbot and wife Diane, of Meadow, Utah; Cleone Talbot and wife Arlene, of Provo, Utah; and five sisters: Linda and husband Jay Riding; Carol and husband Gene Bishop, all of Hinckley, Utah; Anna and husband Jerry Clayton, of Tabonia, Utah; Celia and husband Don Graham, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Elsie and husband Howard Hunsaker, of Hurricane, Utah.
Ila was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Loren Talbot.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Nickle Mortuary in Delta, Utah.
A gathering is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Nickle Mortuary Chapel in Delta, Utah, with Cleone Talbot and Randy Hanson officiating.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta Cemetery
at Delta, Utah.

Iona L. Sander Nash
Wonderful, Loving Mother

MONTROSE - Iona L. Sander Nash, age 67, of Montrose, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at her son's home in Glenwood Springs.
Iona Strampher, the daughter of Hayes Strampher and Bessie (Warfield) Strampler, was born on Aug. 3, 1933, in Keldron, S.D.
Iona was fortunate in her married life and married two wonderful men. In 1953, she married her first husband and the father of her children, Lester Sander, in Morristown, S.D. Lester died suddenly in 1970. In 1982, Iona married her second husband, James Nash, in Mazatlan, Mexico.
She loved Colorado where she had made her home for 44 years. Iona lived in Thornton, Colo., from 1957 until 1986 and then made her home in Montrose for 15 years.
Her outside interests included lake fishing, quilting, crafts, and traveling.
Iona cherished her family and they always knew they were the most important part of her life. She was a wonderful, loving mother and an exceptional homemaker. Iona also loved people - just sitting and having a good cup of coffee and good conversation.
Iona will be sadly missed, but her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren. Her memories and love will forever fill the hearts of her family.
Survivors very grateful to share Iona's life include her husband, James Nash, of Montrose; two sons: Greg Sander and wife Muffy, of Glenwood Springs; David Sander and wife Cindy, of Elkton, Va.; one daughter, Rita Martin, of Denver.
Iona was the proud and loving grandmother of 12 precious grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her mother, Bessie Dickenson, of Montrose; one brother, Oliver Strampher and wife Marlene, of Wenatchee, Wash.; and two sisters: Bonnie and husband Dale Sams, of Kennewick, Wash.; and Velma and husband Werner Zent, of Albert Lea, Mont.
In addition to her first husband, Lester, Iona was also preceded in death by her father, three brothers, and one sister.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Iona's life will be officiated by Pastor John Mocko on Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Montrose. The service will conclude at the church.

Allen William Hasenbalg
Professional Truck Driver
March 17, 1918 - Jan. 19, 2001
DELTA - Allen William Hasenbalg, age 82, a resident of Delta since 1979, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta.
Born on March 17, 1918, in St. Francis, Kan., Allen William Hasenbalg was the son of Fredrick and Elizabeth Margeret (Magill) Hasenbalg. Allen spent his childhood years in Simla, Colo., and moved to Jamestown, Colo., at the age of 15.
On Nov. 5, 1939, Allen was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Marie Perry. Their lives were blessed with one daughter and Allen and Marie had the joy of sharing their 56th wedding anniversary a month before Marie's death on Dec. 5, 1995.
Prior to his retirement, Allen was a professional truck driver. He loved crisscrossing the United States driving for Time Denver-Chicago Trucking Co.
In 1979, Allen and Marie moved from Boulder to Delta where Allen made his home until the time of his death.
Allen loved being a truck driver, being a member of a jeep club and boat club, and going fishing at Blue Mesa. When Marie was alive, they enjoyed spending their winters in Quartzsite, Ariz. Allen also spent the year after Marie's death in Quartzsite.
Survivors very grateful to share Allen's life include one nephew, Fred Hasenbalg and wife Rita, of Farmington, N.M.; four sisters-in-law: Jean Gardner, of Nederland; Ardith Gulden, Doris Travis, Helen Schaal, all of Burlington; and close friends: the Janssen family and Carol Carmack, who helped Allen in his last days, of Delta.
Along with both of his parents and wife, Marie, Allen was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Kay; and one brother, Henry Theodore Hasenbalg.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25, from noon to 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Allen's life will be officiated by Pastor Trevor Potter on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder.
Interment will follow the service in the Green Mountain Cemetery
at Boulder.
A Memorial Service will be held in Delta at a later date.

Lester L. Lunsford
Loved the Outdoors

MONTROSE - Lester L. Lunsford, a resident of Montrose for over 33 years, died Saturday evening, Jan. 6, 2001, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose at the age of 91.
Lester L. Lunsford, one of 11 children, was born in Fairview, Okla., on Dec. 14, 1909, the son of William Homer and Junie Ardena (Spear) Lunsford. He attended school in Beaver County, Okla., and spent most of his childhood in the Panhandle area of Oklahoma.
When Lester was 9 years old he moved with his family to Rogers, Ark., and he got a job cutting meat and learning the trade. During the Depression, Lester was a major supporter of the family.
On June 14, 1936, Lester was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, with Thelma Flowers in Aztec, N.M. Lester and Thelma had the joy of sharing over 64 rich, wonderful years together at the time of Lester's death.
After moving to Colorado in the 1940s, Lester worked at Pinkstaff's Market in Montrose and was foreman for Dan Hughes land in the Dry Creek Basin.
In 1941, the Lunsfords moved to Ignacio, Colo., where Lester was employed as a meat cutter at the Ignacio Locker Plant. In 1949, they purchased the Jake McJunkin property and built a home behind the store and upgraded it to a new and used furniture and appliance store. Lester served as one of Ignacio's town councilmen for many years.
In 1968, Lester and Thelma sold their business and moved to Montrose to retire where they had since made their home.
Lester loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. When he was well into his 80s, he could still be found sitting on the ice at Blue Mesa Reservoir several times a week. He was an accomplished appliance repairman and carpenter and loved to build furniture for his relatives and friends. He had a little saying that he never started a job he couldn't finish. Lester was a gentle man, who never met a stranger. His loved ones commented he was quite the storyteller.
Survivors very grateful to share Lester's life include his wife, Thelma Lunsford, of the family home in Montrose; two sons: Donald Ray Penman and wife Sandra; LaDell Penman and wife Connie; and two daughters: Donna Read and Jean Bieber, all of Montrose.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Lloyd Lunsford and wife Alice, of Ignacio; Paul K. Lunsford, of Glendale, Ariz.; three sisters: Catherine Dickey, of Bloomfield, N.M.; Ardena J. Figgnis, of Ontario, Calif.; Davidena and husband Harry Flack, of Montrose; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, Ruben Oakla; and four sisters: Lena, Daisy, Mae, and Anna.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lester's life will be officiated by Minister Ronnie Hanna on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Montrose Christian Church. The service will conclude at the church.
At Lester's request, cremation has taken place.

Patricia Jean 'Pat' Eilebrecht

MONTROSE - Former longtime Gunnison resident, Patricia Jean "Pat" Eilebrecht, age 79, a resident of Montrose since 1996, died Friday evening, Jan 5, 2001, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
Patricia Jean King, the second of seven children, was born in Utica, Kan., on May 11, 1921, the daughter of Arthur C. and Viva (Stauffer) King. She was a young child when she moved with her family to Montrose where she spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Pat married Philip H. Eilebrecht on Dec. 1, 1946, and their union was blessed with two daughters. Pat and Philip had the joy of sharing 54 rich, wonderful years of marriage last month.
Pat was employed as a sales clerk at the Toggery in Gunnison for 10 years. After she retired, she enjoyed being a grandmother and traveling. Her best talent was being a Grandma.
In 1996, Pat and Philip moved from Gunnison to Montrose to be closer to their daughters where they made their home until the time of Pat's death.
She was a member of the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church of Gunnison, was very active in the women's club at the church and volunteering at the Goodwill Store in Gunnison that the church started.
Pat was a very artistic lady. She loved creating pottery, crocheting, and playing bridge.
Survivors who had the honor of sharing Pat's life include her husband, Philip Eilebrecht, of Montrose; two daughters: Debra Steger, of Montrose; Penny and husband Gib Kysar, of Olathe; three precious grandchildren: Eric Christensen and wife Rhona, of Olathe; Jan Christensen, of North Platte, Neb.; Shea Steger, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; and one very special great-grandson, Wacey Lane Christensen, of Olathe.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Beth King; and Wilma and husband Joe Eisaguirre, all of Montrose.
Pat was preceded in death by both of her parents; three brothers: Jack King, Daniel King; Paul King; and one sister, Joann Easterly.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance of Pat's life were officiated by The Rev. Robert Newby on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 307 W. Virginia, in Gunnison. The service concluded at the church.

Harley J. Perdue

MONTROSE - Harley J. Perdue, of Montrose, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 9, 2001, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose at the age of 73.
Harley J. Perdue, one of 12 children, was born on Jan. 30, 1927, in Cottonhill, Mo., the son of Alonzo and Garnett (Steele) Perdue. He spent his childhood years in Missouri and Arkansas.
On Dec. 31, 1949, Harley was joined in marriage with Lois F. Heath in Trinity County, Calif. Harley and Lois were the parents of four children. Lois went to be with her Creator on Jan. 29, 1991.
Prior to his retirement, Harley was employed as a millwright in the forest industry, and owned Perdue Machine Shop in Montrose.
He moved from California to Montrose where he remained until the time of his death.
Among the loves in Harley's life that brought him happiness were fishing, hunting, and billards.
Survivors very grateful to share Harley's life include two sons: David Perdue and wife Sun, of Manteca, Calif.; Mark Perdue and wife Maryann, of Weaverville, Calif.; and two daughters: Marilynn Perdue, of Sacramento, Calif.; and Cindy and husband Steven Gallenberger, of San Diego, Calif.
Harley was the proud grandfather of five precious grandchildren: Deborah, Sharon and Daniel Perdue; Ashley and Nathan Perdue; and two great-grandsons: Jeremiah Perdue and Christopher Miller.
Other family survivors include three sisters: Wanda Keel and Emma Lou Cobb, both of Illinois; and Jesse Rossi, of Massachusetts.
Along with both of his parents and his wife, Lois, he was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
At Harley's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial plaque in his memory will be placed on the wall at the scatter garden in Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose.
