Lucy Martinez
Funeral services were held Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs for Lucy Martinez, a lifelong Archuleta County resident, who died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Centura Health-Mercy Medical Center. She was 71.
Services were conducted by Pagosa Springs Funeral Options.
Mrs. Martinez was born Jan. 9, 1928. She married Mel Martinez, with whom she ranched with in Arboles.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, David Martinez and Amos Martinez, both of Allison; a brother, Claudio Martinez of Salt Lake City; and three grandchildren.
Alicia Genaviva Hollandsworth
Services are pending for Alicia Genaviva Hollandsworth, who died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Centura Health-Mercy Medical Center in Durango. She was 49.
Mrs. Hollandsworth was born June 29, 1949, in Rancho de Taos, N.M. She was a resident of Ignacio for many years. Survivors include three brothers, Alfred Visarraga of Denver, Frank Visarraga of Washington state and Floyd Visarraga of Utah; and six sisters, Pricilla and Helen Visarraga, both of Rancho de Taos, N.M., Sabina Visarraga and Trinidad Medina, both of Penasco, N.M., Mary Visarraga of Taos, N.M., and Vivianna Romero of Washington state.
Guy Clinton Underhill
Guy Clinton Underhill died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Sacramento, Calif. He was 84.
Mr. Underhill was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Durango. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Mr. Underhill’s past experiences include U.S. Army officer, teacher, technical writer, radio announcer, custom framer and auditor.
Survivors include two nieces, Donna Lehmkuhl of Brookings, S.D., and Sharon Jensen of San Jose, Calif.; two nephews, Robert Underhill of Newark, N.J., and Lee Underhill of Temple, Texas; and a cousin, Willard Croonenberghs of Durango.
Willis "Gip" L. Aulbert III
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Bloomfield, N.M. for Willis "Gip" L. Aulbert III, a Vietnam veteran, who died Thursday, Feb. 25, from cancer at his Bloomfield home. He was 51.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Chapel in Farmington. Recitation of the rosary will follow.
The Rev. Dan Daley and Rev. Joe Bunce will officiate at services. Burial will be at the Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Aulbert was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Pampa, Texas. He married his wife, Roxann, in 1991 in Durango.
Mr. Aulbert served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971 as the Chief Warrant Officer of the 187th AHC Crusaders, where he received a bronze star. He was also a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. He worked for 17 years with Williams Field Company, where he was superintendent since 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Roxann, of Bloomfield; stepsons, Jason Egger of Bayfield and Bradd Egger of Ignacio; a brother, Cary Aulbert of Bloomfield; a sister, Jan Fetter; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Floyd Box Sr.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez for Floyd Box Sr., who died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was 66.
Interment services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
Mr. Box was born May 15, 1932, in Ignacio. He was a resident of Towaoc.
Mr. Box was drafted in 1953 and stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo.
He then was stationed in Korea at the DMZ until his discharge in 1955, serving in the H/S CO. 366th E.A. Bn. in Taegu, Korea.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborha L. Box.
Survivors include his children, Cindy Casey, Karen Box, Sophia Box, Marissa Box, Tilman Box and Floyd Box Jr., all of Towaoc; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Floy Box Valdez and Anna Marie Scott, both of Ignacio, Mary Ann Whiteman and Rose Paytiamo, both of Towaoc, and Elsie Martinez of Cortez; five brothers, Gilbert Washington of Towaoc, William Thompson, Eddie Box Sr. and Russell Box, all of Ignacio, and David Box of Denver; a niece, Agnes Howe Jacket of Towaoc; and numerous nephews from Towaoc.
Jack Arthur Turner
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for Jack Arthur Turner, who died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, in Durango. He was 84.
The Rev. Andrew Cooley will officiate.
Mr. Turner was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Lancaster, Mo. He married Roberta Young May 24, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D.
Mr. Turner worked as a wholesale food distributor in Denver for many years. He and his family owned and operated a Texaco and Firestone dealership in Durango. He also worked for Durango School District 9-R.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Young Turner of Durango; two sons, Robert Turner and David Turner, both of Durango; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wendell Jonathan William
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ouray Memorial Cemetery
in Ignacio for Wendell Jonathan William, who died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home in Olivitt, Mich. He was 34.
The Rev. Kelley Winlock will officiate at services. Friends and family are invited to meet at Hood Mortuary on Wednesday morning to take part in a procession that will leave for the cemetery at 9 a.m.
Mr. William was born April 16, 1964, in Durango. He was a member of the Southern Ute Tribe.
Mr. William attended and graduated from Ignacio High School. He also attended S.I.P.I. Indian School in Albuquerque.
Mr. William is survived by a brother, Robert O. Weaver; two aunts, Mary Santisteven and Vonestine William; an uncle, Kenneth Burch Sr.; and numerous cousins.
Jarom Anton Richard Patterson
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at the Highland 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 10390 North Alpine Highway, Highland, Utah, for Jarom Anton Richard Patterson, who died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, of undetermined causes in his sleep at home in Highland. He was 2.
Patterson was born May 15, 1996.
He is survived by his parents, Rex and Monica Paulek Patterson; grandparents, Fred Paulek of Hesperus, Ruth Cammas of Missouri, and Patrick and Diane Patterson of Fort Jones, Calif.; great-grandmother, Alice Paulek of Hesperus; uncles and aunts, Mike and Sherri Waggoner of Durango, and Mitch and Jewel Kay Waggoner of Aztec, N.M.; and several brothers, sisters, cousins, and other family members.
Mary Avis Everett
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at Hodd Mortuary for Mary Avis Everett, a Durango nurse who died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 in Durango. She was 48.
There will be cremation.
Ms. Everett was born March 24, 1950 in Durango. She was an Army veteran. She is survived by her father, Tommy D. Herrera, of Marvel; two daughters, Terry Everett of Durango and Michelle Everett Daugherbaugh of Payson, Ariz.; two sisters, Barbara Baker of Hesperus, and Cricket Kobza of Brighton; four brothers, Brad and Roger Hererra of Marvel, Ladd Johnson of Houston, and Gary Johnson of Farmington; and three grandchildren.

Charlotte Emma Henderson Oliver
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Aztec Kingdom Hall for Charlotte Emma Henderson Oliver, who died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, N.M., of respiratory infection. She was 84.
Mr. Art Larson will officiate. Services and burial were held Feb. 19 in Andrews, Texas.
Mrs. Oliver was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Cortez. She married Dallas "Jim" Oliver June 5, 1935, in Aztec, N.M. They lived in Durango for many years until his retirement when they moved to Andrews, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1995. Mrs. Oliver became a Jehovah’s Witness in 1952 and was very active in her faith. She was a member of the Andrews Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Texas and since 1955, a member of the Aztec Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include two sons, Gary D. Oliver of Aztec, N.M., and John L. Oliver of Andrews, Texas; a sister, Ruby Fogle of Highland, Calif.; and numerous other relatives.
Dorothy Anna Billings Olbert
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Dorothy Anna Billings Olbert, who died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz. She was 87.
Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Olbert was born Feb. 21, 1911, in the Animas Valley. She lived in the Animas Valley and attended school there until she began high school at the old Fort Lewis campus near Hesperus for two years before transferring to Durango High School, graduating in 1928.
Mrs. Olbert attended Fort Lewis College for two years, earning her teaching qualification. She taught school at the one-room schoolhouse in Oxford and later at the Animas Valley School. She married John Olbert Nov. 22, 1933 in her parents’ Animas Valley home. They built a log house in Oxford.
Mrs. Olbert’s teaching career became secondary to raising her three young sons. She was actively involved in the events of family and community life, helping with school, Grange, church and 4-H Club events. When her sons were all in school, she served as a substitute teacher occasionally.
Mrs. Olbert lived in the log house until the death of her husband in 1983. In 1985, she sold the farm and moved to Tucson, Ariz., to live near her two younger sons. She remained there until her death.
Mrs. Olbert was an active member of the Methodist Church. While living in Colorado, she was a member of the Animas Valley Grange, Oxford Grange, Pomona Grange, Happy Homemakers Home Demonstration Club and Presbyterian Ladies Sewing Circle in Ignacio.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Olbert of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, John Olbert of Tucson, Ariz., and Philip Olbert of Allenspark; a brother, Donald Billings of Statesboro, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jesse Elwood Latham
Memorial services are planned for the spring for Jesse Elwood Latham, a longtime Southwest Colorado resident, who died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in Durango. He was 75.
Mr. Latham moved to the area with his family when he was a young boy. He attended school in Cortez.
He is survived by three children, Jesse L. Latham of Glenwood Springs, David L. Latham of Bloomfield, N.M., and Linda K. Roby of Denver; a brother, Elwood Latham of Cortez; a sister, Elvina Hunter of Oregon; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Maureen Ann Hogan

A memorial mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Maureen Ann Hogan, a longtime Durango resident, who died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in Durango. She was 67.
Father Mike McCleary will officiate at services. Recitation of the rosary will be 6 p.m. Monday at St. Columba.
Mrs. Hogan was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Stockton, Calif. She married G. Michael "Mickey" Hogan in 1954 and they moved to Durango in 1955.
Mrs. Hogan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1953 with degrees in both English and history. She was a school teacher in Los Angeles for one year before moving to Durango and becoming a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, G. Michael of Durango; two daughters, Beth Emrich of Durango and Sharon Hogan of Moab, Utah; three sons, Dan Hogan of Durango, Stephen Hogan of San Diego, and Charlie Hogan of Denver; two brothers, Raymond Mahoney of Lodi, Calif., and James Mahoney of Stockton, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
