Lillian Young
Loved Baking

ECKERT - Lillian Young, age 82, of Eckert, died on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert, where she had worked as a cook before her retirement.
Lillian Ferguson, the daughter of Francis and Anna (Locke) Ferguson, was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in Olathe, Colo., where she spent her childhood and attended the Olathe schools.
Lillian married Dorse Ray Young on Aug. 14, 1936, in Ouray, Colo. Lillian and Dorse were the parents of five sons and three daughters.
Her love for baking carried over into her work as a cook. She was employed as a cook in many of the local nursing homes. Lillian retired in 1986 as a cook from the Horizons Care Center in Eckert.
Dorse preceded Lillian in death on Feb. 29, 1980 in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Grand Junction. Lillian died on the same day her husband died 20 years ago.
She was a member of the Cedaredge First Assembly of God Church.
Lillian loved and enjoyed working with her hands doing handcrafts, crocheting, baking, and will be loving remembered as always looking after others.
Survivors include four sons: Harold Dean Young, of Houston, Texas; W.A. "Butch" Young, of West Valley, Utah; Raymond B. Young; Ralph Aubrey Young, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two daughters: Donna Ferganchick, of Cedaredge; and Nancy Ann Johnson, of Laverne, Okla.
Lillian was the proud and loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren, and the great-grandmother of 19 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Warren Ferguson, of Richmond, Va.; and two sisters: Anna Weeks, of Montrose; and Ruby Williams, of Wasilla, Alaska.
In addition to her husband, Dorse, Lillian was also preceded in death by her father, Francis Frank Ferguson; her mother, Anna Locke; one son, William Frank Young; one daughter, June Evelyn Young; two granddaughters: Wendy Young and Mona Stephenson; three brothers and five sisters.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, March 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery in Delta.
Private family Graveside Services in loving remembrance of Lillian will be officiated in the Cedaredge Cemetery
in Cedaredge.

Clifford Dean Wadley

FRUITLAND MESA - Clifford Dean "Cliff" Wadley, age 41, died on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home on Fruitland Mesa near Crawford. His death leaves such an unwanted emptiness in the lives of his family and friends, for he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Clifford Dean Wadley was born in Delta, Colo. on June 24, 1958, the son of Duty and Rose Marie (Owens) Wadley. He grew up and received his education in Hotchkiss, graduating from the Hotchkiss High School with the class of 1976.
Cliff married Teresa Hice on June 30, 1979 in Delta, Colo., and they were the parents of three children. Cliff and Teresa's marriage later ended in divorce.
On Aug. 2, 1997, Cliff married Denise Hasemann, which added Brittany Hasemann to the family.
Cliff surrounded himself with his many treasures and loves in life which brought him so much happiness, satisfaction, and pleasure. He loved art and was proficient in silversmithing and glass etching, as well as drawing. Cliff also greatly loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and wildlife photography.
Survivors so very grateful to share Cliff's life are his wife, Denise Wadley, of the family home on Fruitland Mesa; Brittany Hasemann, of Crawford; and his three children from his first marriage: Josh Hice and Jasmine Wadley, both of Denver; and Jake Wadley, of Hotchkiss.
Other family survivors include his father, Glen D. "Dusty" Wadley Sr. and his stepmother, Mary Wadley; two brothers: Glen D. Wadley Jr. and wife Mary, of Hotchkiss; Rich D. Wadley and wife Donna, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Teina and husband Leo Torrez, of Park Rapids, Minn.; his two grandmothers: Rita Wadley, of Hotchkiss; Lola Owens, of Lazear, Colo.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cliff was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Wadley; and his two grandfathers: Rufus Wadley and Louis Owens.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Cliff's life will be officiated on Thursday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807.

Pamela Louise Peterson

MONTROSE - Pamela Louise Peterson, age 43, a church secretary and volunteer, died late Tuesday evening, Feb. 29, 2000, at her home in Montrose. She will be lovingly remembered as a very warm, loving, and caring person who brought a depth of love and a brilliant light into the world of those around her.
Pamela Louise Jones, the daughter of Willard C. and Julia (Cesare) Jones, was born on Sept. 23, 1956, in Sacramento, Calif., where she spent her childhood.
At the age of 23, Pamela moved to Colorado. She married Charles M. Peterson on Feb. 10, 1977 in Golden, Colo. Pamela and Charles were the parents of a daughter and had shared 23 years of marriage a few days before Pamela's death.
Pamela was employed as the secretary for the Covenant Christian Fellowship Church at Montrose and was also a volunteer.
The Peterson family moved from the Eastern Slope of Colorado to the Montrose area six years ago, where Pamela made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Covenant Christian Fellowship Church of Montrose and served as a volunteer for the Pregnancy Help Center in Montrose.
Pamela's life solidly revolved around her family and church. She found much happiness, joy, and satisfaction in being a wife and mother, along with serving her church and singing praise and worship.
Survivors so very grateful to share Pamela's life are her husband, Charles M. Peterson; one daughter, Julia Peterson, of the family home in Montrose; and her father, Willard Jones, of Paonia.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Vickie and husband Gary Born, of Granby; Debbie and husband Butch Daniels, of Montrose; as well as several nieces and nephews: Andrew, Julie, Andrea, Michael, Rachel, Debbie, Barbara, Christopher, Alexis, Connor, Kaileigh, Ian, and Ashleigh.
Pamela was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother, Julia Jones.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, March 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Pamela's life will be officiated by Pastor Steve Millican on Saturday, March 4, at 10 a.m. at the Covenant Christian Fellowship Church, E. Jig Rd., in Montrose.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery

James 'Jim' Moore
Loved the Outdoors

MONTROSE - James "Jim" Moore, age 52, a lifelong Montrose resident, died on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Montrose.
James Moore, the son of Emery Simmons Moore and Celo Anna (Flowers) Moore, was born on Jan. 14, 1948, in Denver, Colo. He spent his childhood in Montrose, graduated from the Montrose High School, and lived his entire lifetime in Montrose.
After graduating from high school, Jim went to work as a miner in the Ouray and Silverton area. He then worked for Connors Drilling of Montrose for a number of year before operating Montrose Mobile Wash. Jim went from the mobile wash to being associated with his son, Jody Moore, in the home construction business.
Jim married Lillie Priddy on Jan. 29, 1964 in Montrose, Colo. They were the parents of three children and were very privileged to share 36 years of marriage this year in January.
Jim was a longtime member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053.
He had a great love and passion for the outdoors and spent as much time as possible hunting and fishing. Jim especially loved the challenge of hunting with a bow.
Survivors include one son, Jody Moore and wife Stephanie; two daughters: Tiffany and husband Danny English; Christy and husband Barry Stiles; and six grandchildren: Ashley Moore; Madicyn and Karyk Stiles; Daemin, Cade, and Miciah English, all of Montrose.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Jim's life will be officiated by Pastor Woody Scruggs, of the Abundant Life Church of Montrose, on Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel.

Henry 'Hank' Krill
His Family's Hero

MONTROSE - Henry "Hank" Krill, age 78, a resident of Montrose since 1993, died Monday morning, Feb. 28, 2000, in his home at 512 N. 3rd St., with his daughter and son by his side.
Henry "Hank" Krill was born in Montrose, Colo. on Oct. 6, 1921, the son of Russian immigrants William and Katherine (Kerber) Krill, farmers in the Coal Creek Valley near Montrose.
Hank and Edith Marie Cunningham eloped on Sept. 21, 1940, and were married in Moab, Utah, returning to Montrose as newlyweds. They were the parents of four children.
Hank worked on his father's farm until 1947 when he took Edith and their three children to Southern California where he worked on a farm. He then worked for General Motors before he began his career in the oil fields. Hank retired after 36 years and had become one of the most respected figures in the Southern California oil fields.
First the Krills moved to Lake Isabella, Calif., and then returned to Montrose in 1993 where Edith preceded Hank in death on Nov. 18, 1996, after 56 years of marriage.
Hank Krill was the ultimate husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first and was their friend, confidant, and advisor. Hank was his family's hero. Like his brothers, he was a keen woodworker, fisherman, and sportsman. Hank Krill was more than special and will always be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his four children: Sandra Duhn and Allan Krill, both of Montrose; Gary Krill, of Lakeside, Ore.; Anthony Krill, of Blythe, Calif.; and eight grandchildren: Lani and Otto Yerke, Lori Duhn, Michael and Cindy Duhn, all of Montrose; Sean-Allan Krill, of Chicago, Ill.; George Allan Nunez (Krill), of Kettering, Ohio; Gary Jr. and Sally Krill, of San Pedro, Calif.; Valerie and Todd, of Long Beach, Calif.; Ronnie Lynne Krill, of San Pedro, Calif.; Jeremiah Krill and Christopher Krill, both of Bakersfield, Calif.
He is also survived by six stepgrandchildren: Jana and Diricia, of Houston, Texas; Cheryl and Jonathan, of Crane, Mo.; Robert Knight and Katrina Wolfe, both of Little Rock, Ark.; and Krista Larson, of Orion, Ill.; and 12 great-grandchildren: Otto Jr., Sarah, Jackie Lynn, Jennifer, Savannah, Sean, Florence, Alicia, Zachary, Brianna, Ryne, and Kylie.
Other family survivors include one sister, Pauline Appelhauz, of Trenton, Wash., the lone survivor of Hank's six brothers and three sisters.
In addition to his parents and wife, Edith, Hank was also preceded in death by two sisters: Catherine Lutes and Louise Fritas; and six brothers: David, Edward, William, George, Adam, and beloved August Krill, who died 21 days ago on Monday, Feb 7, 2000, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Hank's life will be officiated by Senior Minister Timothy Smith on Saturday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at the Montrose Christian Church. The service will conclude at the church.

Jan Herman Phillips
Loved Children, Especially His Own

MONTROSE - Jan Herman Phillips, age 40, a resident of Montrose since he was 5 years old, died Wednesday morning, March 1, 2000, in Montrose. His death has left a huge unwanted emptiness in the lives of all who knew and deeply loved him.
Jan Herman Phillips was born in Lincoln, Neb. on Dec. 16, 1959, the son of Veldon and Marilynn (Rasmussen) Phillips. He moved with his family from Nebraska to Montrose when he was 5 years old where he made his home until the time of his death.
Jan was a carpenter in construction, working in a position he really loved as a lead framer (patrone).
The time Jan spent with his two children was always very special. He loved the outdoors and spending time in the wide open spaces hunting and fishing. He loved and delighted in children and took pleasure in coaching wrestling, baseball, and football. Jan also enjoyed participating in PRCA bullriding along with training horses and dogs. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors so very grateful to share Jan's life are one son, Denny Phillips; one daughter, Lacey "Princess" Phillips, both of Montrose; his father, Veldon Phillips, of Loveland; and his mother, Marilynn and stepfather Tom English, of Montrose.
Other family survivors include one brother, Kyle Phillips and wife Jeannie, of Montrose; four sisters: Robyn and husband Greg Hartung, of Herman, Neb.; Kim and husband Mark Witt, of Pierce City, Neb.; Shawn and husband Gary Linsacum, of Craig; Dawn and husband Keith Roberts, of Colona; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by his grandparents; one brother, Darcy Phillips; and one nephew, Timothy.

Oliver David Leighton
Retired Elementary Teacher
Dec. 1, 1927 Feb. 29, 2000
DELTA - Oliver David Leighton, age 72, a retired elementary school teacher and a resident of Delta since 1957, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital. Many people knew him as "Ollie," "Big O" and "Coach." Ollie will be fondly remembered for his love of youth athletics and for promoting those athletics with the highest regard for respect, honesty, and fairness.
Oliver David Leighton, the son of David and Annabelle (Paulson) Leighton, was born on Dec. 1, 1927, in Topeka, Kan., where he spent his childhood, graduated from the Topeka High School, and grew to adulthood. Ollie continued to pursue his education at Kansas University and graduated from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan.
While going to college at Ottawa University, Ollie met the love of his life, Helen D. Sidebottom. The couple returned to Delta, Helen's home, and were married on Aug. 19, 1951. Helen preceded Ollie in death on Aug. 15, 1996.
Prior to his retirement, Ollie was employed as an elementary school teacher, teaching physical education, math, and science. He also provided training in swimmers' education at the Cleland Park Swimming Pool in Delta for many years.
As a youth, he played at the state level in baseball, was a multi-collegiate champion and regional collegiate champion in table tennis. Although he excelled in these sports, Ollie's real love was golf. He played as a child, encouraged by his mother who was an early women's golf pioneer. Ollie played golf his whole life. He participated in the creation of the Cottonwood Golf Course in Delta and was instrumental in starting the Delta High School golf team that he coached for 20 years. He was an active member of the Colorado Golf Association where he helped rate golf courses around the state and sat on rules committees.
Ollie coached the first Delta High School tennis team, ran the Elks Hoop Shoot contest, and coordinated the Ford Punt, Pass and Kick program. He spent many years officiating football, baseball, and basketball. Ollie bowled in local leagues and played in the men's fast pitch softball league. If Ollie wasn't promoting some youth athletic event, he was participating himself. Those who knew him found him to exemplify the true spirit of competition.
He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Delta Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E.; served in the armed forces in Italy in 1946, was a member of the Toastmasters, and belonged to the Delta Booster Club.
Included among Ollie's many loves in life that brought him so much happiness and pleasure were having coffee with "the boys" at Comet Drug in Delta, playing cribbage and poker, staying in his cabin and fishing on Grand Mesa, helping brand cattle, opera, visiting with friends and former students, and attending all events in which his grandchildren were involved.
Survivors so grateful and proud to share Ollie's life are one daughter and her family, Elaine and husband Michael Wood, Nathaniel and Samantha, of Hotchkiss; one son and his family, Wayne Leighton and wife Amy, Amanda and Alicia, of Greeley.
Other family survivors include one brother, Paulson Leighton, of Omaha, Neb.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor and celebrate Ollie's life will be officiated on Saturday, March 4, at 10 a.m. in the Delta Middle School Auditorium. The service will conclude at the auditorium. The family will greet friends at the Delta Elks Lodge following the service.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta; (970) 874-8633.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Ollie Leighton, may be made to any Delta County School and athletic activity of the donor's choice.
Merle W. Kansgen
Retired Montrose Letter Carrier

GRAND JUNCTION - Merle W. Kansgen, age 67, a Korean Conflict veteran, a former longtime Montrose resident, and a resident of Grand Junction for six years, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2000.
Merle W. Kansgen was born in Cimarron, Colo. on July 9, 1932, the son of Wilbur W. and Rhecta (Wilson) Kansgen. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in the Cimarron and Montrose area.
Merle proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was wounded in 1950 and after his recovery he served two years in Georgia.
After completing his military service, Merle attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction. He married Patricia Gower in 1954 in Grand Junction and they were the parents of two sons and one daughter.
Merle worked for Fuoco Motor Co. in Grand Junction for a number of years and then moved his family to Montrose where he was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office until his retirement.
After making Montrose their home for 28 years, the Kansgens moved back to Grand Junction in 1994 where Merle made his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Bookcliff Baptist Church of Grand Junction and the Disabled American Veterans.
Merle used to love fly fishing and he found happiness and satisfaction in being a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Grand Junction with the Disabled American Veterans. He volunteered in the mail room and also helped in the substance abuse program, patient advocacy.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Merle's life are his wife, Patricia Kansgen, of Grand Junction; two sons: Merle W. Kansgen Jr., of Longmont; Michael W. Kansgen, of Grand Junction; one daughter, Melissa Dunigan, of Colorado Springs; and three grandchildren: Trista Kansgen and Devin Kansgen, both of Longmont; and Jace Michael Kansgen, of Grand Junction.
Other family survivors include one sister, Ruby Wilson, of California.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Donna Wallace and Mildred Stephen; and a half-brother, John Jordan.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, March 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Merle's life will be officiated on Saturday, March 4, at 10 a.m. in the Bookcliff Baptist Church, 2702 Patterson Rd., in Grand Junction.
Interment will follow the service in the Veterans Cemetery
