CEDAREDGE - Dorma Lea Stede, age 69, a resident of Cedaredge since 1976, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 9, 2000, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital six days before she would have celebrated her 70th birthday.
Born on Feb. 15, 1930, in Ft. Morgan, Colo., Dorma Lea Shell was the daughter of Clifford and Adeline D. (Loose) Shell. She graduated from Ft. Collins High School.
In 1956, she moved to Palmer Lake, Colo., where she was self-employed. In 1976, Dorma moved to Cedaredge where she made her home until the time of her death.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Dorma's life are two sons: Ron Stede and wife Vickie, of Lakewood; Ed Stede and wife Sharon, of Wisdom, Mont.; and two granddaughters: Ronda Stede and Renea Stede, both of Lakewood.
Other family survivors include her mother, Adeline D. Jones, of Cedaredge; one brother, Duane Jones, of Palmer Lake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews including her niece, Daralyn Tomasi, of Greeley.
At Dorma's request no services are planned.

Margherita Bernadina 'Teresa' Brich
Hotchkiss Resident Since 1972

HOTCHKISS - Margherita Bernadina "Teresa" Brich, age 87, a homemaker and resident of Hotchkiss since 1972, died on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at her home in Hotchkiss.
Margherita Bernadina Somazzi was born in Comano, Switzerland on Aug. 25, 1912, the daughter of Joseph Somazzi and Matilde nata Petrini Somazzi. She spent the first four years of her life in Comano, Switzerland then moved with her family to Napa, Calif., where she graduated from the Soda Canon High School in 1930.
Teresa married Theodore Roosevelt Brich on Aug. 16, 1938 in Meiners Oaks, Calif. They were the parents of a son and a daughter and had shared 53 loving years of marriage at the time of Theodore's death on Nov. 6, 1992.
Teresa lived in Napa, Calif. for 22 years. The Brich family lived in Somis, Calif. for seven years and Moorpark, Calif. 27 years, prior to moving to Hotchkiss in 1972 where Teresa made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Moorpark, Calif., and belonged to the PTA, Wednesday Club, and the Harmony Club all in Hotchkiss.
Teresa loved and enjoyed many aspects of being a homemaker including sewing, canning, and cooking. She also found happiness and pleasure in traveling, fishing, dancing, and whistling.
Survivors so thankful to have shared Teresa's life are one son, David Brich and wife Ruth, of Hotchkiss; one daughter, Matilda and husband Warren Griffith, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Lily Murray, of Napa, Calif.
In addition to her parents and husband, Teresa was also preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Brich; one brother, Erio; and four sisters: Inez, Aurora, Elsie, and Bruna.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Leonora Vae Monell
Generous, Dedicated, Loyal
Jan. 26, 1916 - Feb. 11, 2000
MONTROSE - Leonora Vae Monell, age 84, died Friday evening, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home in Montrose.
Leonora Vae Pulver, the daughter of Charley W. and Leila L. (Tietge) Pulver, was born on Jan. 26, 1916, in Earlville, Iowa. She graduated from the Montrose County High School, and lived most of her lifetime in Montrose.
On Oct. 4, 1937, Leonora married Lloyd J. Monell in Montrose. Family was extremely important to Leonora and she made raising her children the focus of her life. Lloyd and Leonora had three children: Michael, who is a biologist, sheepman and property manager; Noel, who is a chemist specializing in industrial hygiene; and Tanell Roberts, who is an engineer working in hazardous waste management. Leonora was a wonderful grandmother to her three grandchildren: Elizabeth Monell; and Natalie and Kevin Roberts.
Leonora had many interests during her lifetime. She was an excellent cook her divinity candy and exquisitely decorated Christmas cookies were infamous.
She was an accomplished seamstress with an elegant flair for style and fashion. She was especially proud to have made many of her sister's and children's clothes, as well as many of her own clothes.
Nature and all its wonder enchanted Leonora and she passed this love on to her children. Some of her children's favorite memories are being with their mother watching baby birds hatching and learning to fly and taking daily trips around the yard in the springtime to see "what was coming up."
Leonora was also an avid gardner. She grew beautiful roses and was talented at creating striking arrangements. She was quite the competitor at the county fair, winning numerous first place ribbons.
Most of all, Leonora was a generous, dedicated and loyal mother, sister and friend. She was a person who could be counted on to help you through the difficult times and rejoice with you in the happy times. Along with the family above, she will be greatly missed by her sister, Leona Mitchell, of Ridgway, and her many friends.
Private Memorial Services to celebrate Leonora's life will be held.

Floyd Alfred Leavitt
Husband, Father, Grandfather

CEDAREDGE - Floyd Alfred Leavitt, age 84, a retired heavy equipment operator and a resident of Delta County most of his life, died on Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Floyd Alfred Leavitt, the son of James Morton Leavitt and Stella Sarah (McDaniel) Leavitt, was born on May 25, 1915, at Coal Creek, Colo., near Montrose where he spent his childhood. He graduated from the Montrose County High School, and continued his education at the Pasadena Nazarene College in California.
In his younger days, Floyd was a cowboy and a miner. He also worked in the shipyards in California and was employed as a silver miner in Colorado during World War II. Floyd retired as a heavy equipment operator.
He married Marie Mendenhall who preceded him in death in 1991.
Floyd married Josephine Trujillo DeMarco on Nov. 7, 1992, in Delta.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene at Cedaredge and belonged to Local Union No. 9 of Equipment Operators in Denver.
Above all, Floyd loved teaching Sunday School and reading the Bible.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Leavitt, of Cedaredge; two daughters: Margaret and husband Paul Schonstrom, of Littleton; Cathy Leavitt, of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren: Paul T. Schonstrom III, Seva Schonstrom, Katrina Starkweather, Diron Cassidy, and Tristen Cassidy; and two great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Garvey and Adam Garvey.
Other family survivors include one sister, Edith Perry, of Arizona.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Marie, Floyd was also preceded in death by two brothers: Glen and Warren Leavitt; and two sisters: Ruby Snow and Doris Leavitt.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Floyd's life will be officiated by Pastor Bob Carpenter on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.; (970) 874-9988.
Lee Franklin Goodson Sr.
World War II Veteran
MARYSVILLE, Calif. - Lee Franklin Goodson Sr., age 83, a World War II veteran and a former Montrose resident, died on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home in Marysville, Calif.
Lee Franklin Goodson, the son of Columbus and Magdelena Goodson, was born in Greenville, Texas.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Lee was married in Montrose to Mary B. Sherman, who was born and raised in Montrose. They were the parents of four sons and two daughters and were privileged to share 63 loving years of marriage.
Lee was the owner and managing partner of Gardners Point Gold Mine near La Porte, Calif., from 1981 to 1984. He was the owner and operator of Lee F. Goodson Construction Co. in Porterville, Calif., for 25 years prior to moving to the Yuba/Sutter area in 1981 where he made his home until the time of his death.
Lee was a past member of the Yuba/Sutter Gleaners.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Lee's life are his wife, Mary B. Goodson, of Marysville Calif.; four sons: Lee Franklin Goodson Jr., of Klammath Falls, Ore.; Darryl Wayne Goodson, of Scotts Valley, Calif.; Gary Ray Goodson, of Shawnee, Colo.; Allen Frederick Goodson, of Brentwood, Calif.; two daughters: Gloria B. Scott, of Lyndsay, Calif.; Myrna Joan Elliott, of Fresno, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: David L. Goodson, of Landsing, Mich.; Henry W. Goodson, of Denton, Texas; two sisters: Delpha Potter, of Gun Barrel City, Texas; LuluBeth Pruett, of Louiseville, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Kelley Scott, who died in 1995; one brother, Ray Goodson; and two sisters: Joe Hensley and Geneva McCormick.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lee's life were officiated by The Rev. John Thomas, of Truth Tabernacle in Oliverhurst, Calif., on Friday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Sierra View Mortuary Chapel in Marysville, Calif. The service concluded at the chapel.
Graveside Military Services were conducted by the local Montrose Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion on Monday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose.

Alfred Eugene 'Gene' Emmons

PAONIA - Alfred Eugene "Gene" Emmons, age 91, died of a heart attack on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Alfred Eugene Emmons was born on July 1, 1908, in the Minnesota Creek area above Paonia, Colo., the son of Robert "Harve" and Estella Ella Emmons. He received his education at Bowie, Colo.
At an early age, Gene went to work in the coal mines, starting at the Porter Mine up Minnesota Creek. Throughout his life he was employed by most of the other mines in the North Fork area, retiring from U.S. Steel in Somerset. He also worked for Aaron Clough farming and as a ditch rider on the Turner and Upper Minnesota ditches.
Gene married June Jeanette Adams of Baca, Colo. on Oct. 15, 1935, at Delta, Colo. Gene and June lovingly welcomed one son, Ralph Eugene, born to their union.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association Local No. 6417 in Paonia.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving his battery operated car that gave him some independence. Gene also enjoyed drives in the mountains with his brother, "Moe," and his two very special cats, a gray tabby named "Tommy" and a Siamese named "Baby."
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Martha; two grandchildren: Cassandra and Morgan, of Denver; three brothers: Maurice "Moe" Emmons and wife Ruth; Russell Emmons and wife Shirley; Dan Emmons and wife Charlotte, all of Paonia; three sisters: Edna Sharp, of Aurora; Winifred Lane, of Paonia; Nelda Hunt, of Tucson, Ariz.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; his son, Ralph; seven brothers: Carl, Dick, Ted, Horace, Boyd, Walker, Ward; and one sister, Golda.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Gene's life will be officiated by James Gall and the U.M.W.A. on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia.

Charles Lowell Bailey
Caring, Supportive Family Man

AURORA - Charles Lowell Bailey, a longtime Aurora area resident, died on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at the Hospice of Metro Denver in City Park the day after his 83rd birthday. He will be lovingly remembered as a family-orientated man who played the game of life fairly.
Charles Lowell Bailey, the son of Hiram L. Bailey and Della F. (Martin) Bailey, was born on Feb. 12, 1917, in Green City, Mo. He graduated from high school in Westcliffe, Colo.
Charles married his wife Agnes on March 6, 1938, at Westcliffe, Colo. Charles and Agnes lovingly welcomed two sons born to their union and would have shared their 62nd year of marriage this year in March.
Charles was the entrepreneur of several different types of service businesses, such as, starting the first Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Store in the State of Colorado. He retired from HemoTec in Englewood where he was employed as a facility manager for purchasing hospital equipment.
He loved his horses, elk hunting, reading, playing cards, fishing, story telling, and especially his family and grandchildren. He was very family orientated, cared deeply, and was always supportive of his children and grandchildren.
Charles was physically a strong man and inside was a loving, caring, gentle man. The one word that describes Charles Lowell Bailey's character and the legacy he left behind is LOYALTY loyalty to his family, friends, work, and any kind of activity in which he participated.
Charles was deeply loved and his death has left a huge unwanted emptiness in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. He definitely leaves this world a better place and the lives he touched much richer and fuller.
Survivors so grateful to have shared Charles' life are his wife, Agnes Bailey, of Aurora; two sons: David Bailey, also of Aurora; Dennis Bailey and wife Josie, of Montrose; three granddaughters: Denise Bailey and Renee (Bailey) Harris, both graduates of Montrose High School; Melissa Grigsby, of Aurora; and four great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Margaret Marshall, of Miami, Fla.; and Clarice Kiester, of Marysville, Wash.
Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 E. Kentucky Ave., in Aurora, CO 80012.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora.
