Dwain A. Kinsey

GRAND JUNCTION - Dwain A. Kinsey, age 70, of Grand Junction, retired owner of Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home in Montrose, died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center at Grand Junction.
Dwain A. Kinsey was born in Keosauqua, Iowa on July 24, 1929, the son of Keith and Orpha (Cox) Kinsey. He spent his childhood, graduated from Montrose County High School with the class of 1947, and grew to adulthood in Montrose. Dwain attended Western State College in Gunnison and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas.
He served his country in the United States Army.
Dwain married Edna Mae Holzmeister on Nov. 9, 1949 in Montrose, Colo. Dwain and Edna were the parents of a son and a daughter. The Kinseys were privileged to celebrate 50 years of marriage last year in November.
Dwain greatly enjoyed gardening, travel and people. He was very supportive to his family and friends and was a very devoted husband and father.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Dwain's life are his wife, Edna Kinsey, of Grand Junction; one son, Kent Kinsey and wife Lana, of Montrose; and one daughter, Brenda J. Kinsey, of Tucson, Ariz.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction.
Funeral Mass in loving remembrance and to honor Dwain's life will be celebrated by The Rev. Paul Montez on Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 776 Bookcliff Ave., in Grand Junction.
Rite of Committal will be conducted on Monday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary of Grand Junction; (970) 243-2450.

Edwin C. Chamberlain
A People Person

PEA GREEN - Edwin C. Chamberlain, age 59, a resident of Pea Green since 1978, died Monday morning, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home in Pea Green.
Born on June 17, 1940 in Lakewood, Colo., Edwin C. Chamberlain was the son of Charles Albert and Lillian V. (Lathrop) Chamberlain. Edwin spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Lakewood.
Edwin lived in Texas for a few years before he joined the United States Air Force where he served his country from 1959 to 1964.
Throughout his lifetime, Edwin was a farmer, gardener, dreamer, and inventor along with being a philosopher.
He married Varda Lois Steele in April of 1959. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Edwin married Theodora L. "Skeeter" Lee on Aug. 14, 1965, in Denver. Edwin and Skeeter would have shared 35 years of marriage this year in August.
The Chamberlains lived in Clifton from February of 1970 until 1978 when they moved to Pea Green where Edwin made his home until the time of his death.
He was a member and past president of both the Uncompahgre Farmer's Market and the Pork Producers Association.
Edwin was a people person and greatly loved and enjoyed gardening, his greenhouse, and raising hogs.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Edwin's life are his wife, Skeeter Chamberlain, of Pea Green; four sons: E. John Chamberlain and wife April, of Greeley; J. Dean Smith and Kami, of Brighton; Charles "Chuck" Chamberlain and wife Valerie, of Loveland; Todd A. Chamberlain and Marni, of Huntington Beach, Calif; two daughters: Tavane and husband Craig McCombs, of Glendale, Ariz.; Susan L. and husband Bob Foreman, of Pea Green; and 11 grandchildren.
Other family survivors include his father, Charles A. Chamberlain, of Lakewood; two brothers: Richard Chamberlain and wife JoAnn; Dennis A. Chamberlain and wife Yvonne, all of Dener; and one sister, Dixie Lietz, of Wheatridge.
Edwin was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Chamberlain; and an infant daughter, Wendy.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Edwin's life will be officiated by The Rev. Lael Van Ripper on Friday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. in the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Olathe Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose, (970) 249-2121.
Billie Buchheim
Wife, Mother, Grandmother

CEDAREDGE - Billie Buchheim, age 70, a homemaker and a resident of Cedaredge for 38 years, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Billie Bargsten, the daughter of George and Doris (Keihn) Bargsten, was born on May 21, 1929, in Simi, Calif., where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood.
Billie married Ernie Arthur Buchheim on Dec. 3, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nev. Ernie and Billie lovingly welcomed two sons and one daughter born to their union. They would have shared 50 years of marriage this year in December.
After their marriage, the Buchheims moved to Orange County, Calif. They remained in Orange County until 1962 when they moved to Cedaredge, where Billie made her home for 38 years until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Billie's family was her greatest love and happiness in life.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Billie's life are her husband, Ernie A. Buchheim; two sons: John Buchheim and Gary Buchheim, all of Cedaredge; and one daughter, Carol Morrell, of Delta.
Billie was the proud and loving grandmother of five grandchildren: Aaron Buchheim, Kelli Buchheim, Patrick Morrell, Jessica Buchheim, Brice Buchheim; and the great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Klaus Bargsten, of California; George Bargsten, of Grand Junction; two sisters: Emma Hoyer, also of Grand Junction; Esther Wright, of New Mexico; two sisters-in-law: Irene Bargsten and Frances Thompson, both of California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Gribaldo; and three brothers: Ernie Bargsten, Albert Bargsten, and Tommy Bargsten.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Billie's life will be officiated by R. Wayne Eklund on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Private family only interment will be held, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Memorial contributions in Billie's memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Clarence A. Bosgal

DENVER - Clarence A. Bosgal, age 77, of Denver, died on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in a hospital at Denver.
Clarence A. Bosgal, the son of John and Elizabeth Bosgal, was born on Nov. 13, 1922 on a farm near Montrose, with a large family of six sisters and two brothers.
In 1943, during World War II, Clarence served his country in the military until 1945. He later moved to Denver where he made his home until the time of his death.
Clarence's greatest interests during his lifetime that brought him much pleasure were the mountains and the outdoors. He loved to fish around the Montrose area, especially at his favorite fishing spots Buckhorn Lakes and Blue Mesa.
Survivors so grateful to have shared Clarence's life are his life-long companion, Ella Marcotte, of Denver; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Bosgal; one sister, Margaret Shockley, both of Montrose; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
Services in loving remembrance and to honor Clarence's life will be officiated on Monday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Runyan Stevenson Capitol Mortuary, 6427 W. Alameda, in Denver; (303) 233-3333.
Maurice Alan Rowe
Local Audubon Chapter Founder

HOTCHKISS - Retired Chief Warrant Officer, Maurice Alan Rowe, age 70, a resident of Hotchkiss since 1974, died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
Maurice Alan Rowe was born in Del Norte, Colo. on Jan. 4, 1930, the son of Andrew W. and Elsie Louise (Kroschel) Rowe. Following his parents' divorce, his mother married Nelson Whitsitt and the family moved to the mining camp at Summitville for a short time. Later they moved to Salida for a few years before returning to Del Norte where Maurice graduated from the Del Norte High School with the class of 1948.
In January of 1949, Maurice joined the United States Coast Guard. He married Gloria M. Day on March 21, 1950 and they lived in California during his 20 years of service. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1969.
Following his retirement, Maurice attended San Mateo Community College and earned a degree in Horticulture. He was then employed with the Parks Department in Belmont, Caif., until moving to Hotchkiss in 1974.
After settling in Hotchkiss, Maurice and Gloria purchased a corner grocery, Rowe's Grocery, which they operated until 1980.
Maurice was a founding member of the local chapter of the Audubon Society and served on the Board of Directors for a number of years.
He loved hunting, fishing, and working his grandfather's gold mine in his younger years. Later in life his favorite pastimes were fishing and bird watching.
Survivors so very grateful to have shared Maurice's life are his wife of nearly 50 years, Gloria Rowe; one daughter, Sue Rowe; and two sons: Rick Rowe and Eric Rowe, all of Hotchkiss.
Other family survivors include one brother, Eugene Richard Rowe and wife Pearl, of Quartsite, Ariz.; and five sisters: Charlotte B. Garreffa, of Del Norte; his twin sister, Maurine A. and husband Charles Heald, of Silver City, N.M.; Dorothy J. and husband Wally Murray, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Wilma J. and husband Grover Kelly, of Mesa, Ariz.; and Zona M. and husband Gary Sparkman, of Hotchkiss.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elsie Rowe.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Maurice's life were officiated on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel at Hotchkiss. The service concluded at the chapel.

Elizabeth Wallace Hatch

DELTA - Elizabeth Wallace Hatch, age 78, a homemaker and resident of Delta for two months, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at her home in Delta.
Elizabeth Wallace was born in Prairie Grove, Ark. on April 26, 1921, the daughter of James W. and Martha (Lamberton) Wallace. She spent her childhood in Arkansas, Kansas and Colorado. Elizabeth received her teaching certificate from Mesa College in Grand Junction.
She married Ernest C. Hatch on Nov. 16, 1941 in Fruita, Colo. and their union was blessed with seven children.
During World War II, Elizabeth was not in the military, but she worked on aircraft engines at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va.
The Hatch family lived in the Dry Creek Basin/ Redvale before moving to Hotchkiss. In March of 1964 they moved from Hotchkiss to Olathe where they made their home until 1999. The last two months of her life Elizabeth lived in Delta making her home there until the time of her death.
Elizabeth and Ernest would have shared 59 years of marriage this year in November.
She embraced many faiths, was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Midway Women's Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Hotchkiss.
Elizabeth loved to read her best friends were her books. She loved and enjoyed art, her family, gardening, and growing things.
Survivors so very grateful to have shared Elizabeth's life are her husband, Earnest C. Hatch, of Delta; two sons: Roy Hatch, of Olathe; Dean Hatch and wife Becki, of Delta; and five daughters: Joanne and husband Bradley Burch, of Olathe; Joy Steggall, of Whitewater; Mary and husband Paul Suppes, of Delta; Laura and husband Peter Rollins, of Goshen, N.Y.; and Ernestine and husband Jim Manheim, of Phoenix, Ariz.
Elizabeth was the loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren; and the great-grandmother of seven great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Georgia Meehan, of Coquille, Ore.; and Jenny Lou Nelson, of Los Angeles, Calif.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and three grandsons: Benjamin Burch; and Peter and Joseph Rollins.
Cremation has taken place, with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.

Stanley Owen Purnell
Korean Conflict Veteran

HOTCHKISS - Stanley Owen Purnell, age 69, a retired construction drywall contractor and a resident of Hotchkiss since 1961, died on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Stanley Owen Purnell was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Jan. 4, 1931, the son of Ernest Alphonso and Irma Matilda (Owen) Purnell. In 1935 Stanley moved with his family to Somerset where he spent his childhood. He graduated from the Paonia High School with the class of 1949.
From 1951 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict, Stanley served his country in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Greenwood and U.S.S. Ingraham.
He continued to pursue his education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins for three years.
Stanley married Edna Nelson on Sept. 7, 1957, in Fort Collins, Colo. Stanley and Edna were the proud parents of three children and had shared 42 loving years of marriage last year in September.
In 1961, the Purnells moved from Fort Collins and settled on a farm on Redlands Mesa near Hotchkiss where they resided until 1993 when they sold their farm. They then moved to Hotchkiss where Stanley made his home until the time of his death.
Prior to his retirement, Stanley was employed as a construction drywall contractor.
He was a member of the Paonia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, belonged to Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9333 - Black Canyon Post; and was a Past Master of Redlands Mesa Grange.
Among Stanley's special interests that brought him happiness and pleasure during his lifetime were: Playing cards, shooting pool, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Stanley's life are his wife, Edna Purnell, of Hotchkiss; one son, James Owen Purnell, of Colorado Springs; and one daughter, Gail Lynette Purnell, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Fawn Annette; two sisters: Barbara Dombrowski and Irma Lou Moss; and one brother, Darrell Owen Purnell.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3, from noon until service time at 1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.

Laura Eileen Motto

CEDAREDGE - Laura Eileen Motto, age 96, of Cedaredge, died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in the Integrated Health Services Care Center at Delta.
Laura Eileen Hart, the daughter of Parker M. and Amanda (Johnson) Hart, was born on March 12, 1903, in Eckert, Colo. She spent her childhood, graduated from the Cedaredge High School with the class of 1923, and grew to adulthood in Cedaredge.
Laura married Adolph Lawrence Motto on June 12, 1923 in Cedaredge. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1957.
Following the death of her husband, Laura became the packing shed boss for Palmer & Co. and worked in that position for 30 years until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, belonged to the Cedaredge Literary Club for over 50 years, and was a member of the Cedaredge Historical Society.
Laura especially loved and enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, crocheting, and playing Bridge.
Survivors include two grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Stewart; and one brother, Judd Hart, both of Cedaredge.
In addition to her parents and husband, Adolph, Laura was also preceded in death by one daughter, Luella Irene Lowell; one granddaughter, Karen Lowell; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Laura's life will be officiated by The Rev. Del Hampton on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church at Cedaredge.
