LeRoy Earl Cadman
Loved Spending Time With Family

DELTA - LeRoy Earl Cadman, age 45, of Delta, died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
LeRoy Earl Cadman was born on Dec. 12, 1954, in Uravan, Colo., the son of Gayle E. and Clara E. Cadman. He spent his childhood in Uravan and attended schools in Uravan, Naturita, and Nucla, graduating from the Nucla High School in 1974.
After graduating from high school, LeRoy served his country in the United States Army for four years. He then worked as a mechanic for several years at Homestake Mining Company and Blue Water Power Plant in Grants, N.M.
LeRoy married Laura Davis of Delta on Sept. 8, 1994. LeRoy was Laura's biggest fan. Together they lived and worked on the Double Tree Horse Farm in Delta, Colo.
He especially enjoyed working on the farm with the horses and cattle. He was real involved with the 4-H and FFA youth. Most of all, LeRoy loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors left to cherish LeRoy's memory are his wife of six years, Laura Cadman, of Delta; four daughters: Danita Morris and Kindra Cadman, both of New Mexico; Laura Guseman and Brittany Davis, both of Delta; and two grandsons: Blade and Dakota Morris, both of New Mexico.
Other family survivors include his mother, Clara Cadman; and three brothers: Stanley Cadman, Vernon Cadman, and Russell Cadman, all of Grand Junction; as well as many nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his father, Gayle E. Cadman, on Oct. 19, 1999.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor LeRoy's life will be officiated by Robert Labig on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel at Delta. A reception will follow the service at the I.O.O.F. Hall, Highway 92, Delta.
Cremation has taken place, with inurnment to be held in the New Elmwood Cemetery
at Fruita at a later date.

Gladys L. Brothers
Beloved Mother, Grandmother

MONTROSE - Gladys L. Brothers, age 94, of Montrose, died on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
Gladys Knight was born in East Rochester, Ohio on Aug. 7, 1905, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Van Pelt) Knight.
She was a member of the North Springfield Presbyterian Church in Akron, Ohio.
Survivors grateful to have shared Glady's life are two daughters: Virginia Caswell, of New Port Richey, Fla.; Betty J. Brothers, of Montrose; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Brothers; three sisters and four brothers.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Glady's life will be officiated in Augusta, Ohio, at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Bartley Funeral Home of Minerva, Ohio and Montrose Valley Funeral Home.

Elna P. Gibson
Retired Registered Nurse

ECKERT - Elna P. Gibson, age 93, a retired Registered Nurse and a resident of Eckert, died on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Elna P. Johnson was born in Navarino, Wis. on April 10, 1906, the daughter of Peter and Alma (Josephson) Johnson. She spent her early life on the farm in Wisconsin and North Dakota. After graduating from the eighth grade, Elna taught school in a rural school for five years.
At the age of 18, Elna moved to Denver and entered nurses training and graduated from St. Luke's Nursing Training School in 1932. She worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement from nursing.
She married John Nickels in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1956. Elna then married Jess Gibson in 1960 and he preceded Elna in death in 1991.
One of Elna's greatest joys in life was working with flowers. She was an Honorary President of the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs, a Life Trustee of the Denver Botanic Gardens, and a member of several local garden clubs. Elna spent many years as a Master Flower Show Judge at fairs, garden and flower shows. Her personal library was well stocked with flower and plant growth books and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her books.
She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Cedaredge and spent many hours working on church projects.
As a memorial to her late husband, Jess Gibson, Elna contributed significantly to the building of the clubhouse at Deer Creek Village Golf Course in Cedaredge.
Elna is survived by one sister, Margaret Munson, of Cooperstown, N.D.; two stepsons: George Gibson and wife Cheri, of Grand Junction; Dick Gibson and family, of Washington; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her close friends, Bill and Leone Hamilton, of Cedaredge.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Elna's life will be officiated on Friday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church. The service will conclude at the church.

Earl Vinton 'Pete' Cannon
Loved the Outdoors, Ranching

DELTA - Earl Vinton "Pete" Cannon, age 65, a resident of Delta since March of 1999, died of an extended illness Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Grand Junction.
Earl Vinton Cannon, the son of Earl Tiffin and Ruth Bernice (Gunter) Cannon, was born on Oct. 9, 1934, in Susanville, Calif., where he spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
During the 1950s, Pete was employed as a truck driver in Northern California hauling timber. After returning from serving his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific, he later moved his family to the Chico, Calif. area where he worked for Diamond International in the lumber industry.
In 1969, the Cannon family moved to Nevada and Pete pursued his interest in the ranching business near Yerington, Nev. In 1973, he moved to Payette, Idaho, and was employed with Mays Trucking Company. He later returned to Northern California and worked for Sierra Pacific Lumber Company hauling timber.
In March of 1999, Pete moved to Delta to be near his children where he made his home until the time of his death.
Pete was a very social person and greatly enjoyed the company of others. He loved the outdoors and being involved in the ranching profession. During his entire lifetime Pete enjoyed rodeos and competing in the roping events. He was a volunteer with the Lassen County Sheriff's Posse in California and in his later years he enjoyed watching football and following sporting events on television. Above all, Pete loved and cherished being with his family, his children and grandchildren.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Pete's life are two sons: Vinton Cannon and wife Tina, of Delta; Robert Cannon, of Grass Valley, Calif.; and two daughters: Jody and husband Steve Hovde, of Montrose; and Susan Cannon and Dave Borders, of San Jose, Calif.
Pete was the proud and loving grandfather of six grandchildren: Dustin, Vinton, Chris and Paige Cannon, all of Delta; and Amber and Matthew Hovde, both of Montrose.
Other family survivors include one brother, Tiffin Cannon, of Corning, Calif.; and three sisters: Gloria Farris and Francis Parker, both of Susanville, Calif.; and Pearl Maurino, of Wilton, Calif.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor and celebrate Pete's life will be officiated on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel at Susanville, Calif.
Interment will follow the service in the Lassen Cemetery
at Susanville, Calif., with local arrangements being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home, (970) 249-4400.
Emma Louise James
Sister, Mother, Grandmother

SWEENY, Texas - Emma Louise James, age 75, of Sweeny, Texas, died on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Lake Jackson, Texas, 14 days before she would have celebrated her 76th birthday.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia, Texas.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance of Emma's life will be officiated by her son, Kenneth R. James, on Friday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Faith Baptist Church in Sweeny, Texas. The service will conclude at the church.
Concluding services to pay respect to Emma's life will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta, Colo.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Bates, Joe Cooper, Charlie Edwards, Bobby Henderson, Banjo Mahurin, Mike Scarborough, Doug Wells, and Lewis Williams.
Serving as pallbearers are C.D. Christian, Ed Cole, Tommy Crouch, Bryen James, B.D. Mahurin, Dusty Rhodes.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery
at Delta, with arrangements being handled under the direction of C.T. Baker & Sons, Inc., 634 S. Columbia Dr., West Columbia, Texas and Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta, (970) 874-8633.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Emma James may be made to the Sweeny Community Library.
Emma Louise was born on Friday, Jan. 25, 1924, in Escalante Canyon, Colo.
Emma was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Sweeny, Texas and belonged to the Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodge in West Columbia, Texas and Delta, Colo.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Emma's life are three sons: Robert H. James and wife Jan, of Omaha, Neb.; Kenneth R. James and wife Jowanna, of Sweeny, Texas; Richard C. James and wife Nora, of Albertsville, Ala.; four grandchildren: Lowanna R. Miller, Rebecca L. Mahurin, Bryan L. James, all of Sweeny, Texas; Ricki G. James, of Birmingham, Ala.; and one great-grandson, Joshua A. Miller, of Sweeny, Texas.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Joseph and George Shreeves, of Delta; three sisters: Rose Ray, of Canon City; Ruth Weems, of Stanfield, Ariz.; Helen Foreman, of Delta; as well as 14 nieces and 10 nephews.
Leanora J. Johnston
Retired Registered Nurse

MONTROSE - Leanora J. Johnston, of Montrose, died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 11, 2000, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose, eight days after celebrating her 84th birthday.
Leanora J. Patterson, the daughter of John D. and Amy (Amidon) Patterson, was born on Jan. 3, 1916, in Great Falls, Mont. She spent her childhood in Montana.
Leanora married Edgar W. Johnston and they lovingly welcomed one son and one daughter born to their union. Edgar preceded Leanora in death on Jan. 16, 1972.
She was employed as a registered nurse prior to her retirement from nursing.
Survivors include one son, G.A. "Skip" Johnston, of Hawaii; and one daughter, Jerri Woodrow, of Montrose.
In addition to her husband, Leanora was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Amy Patterson.
Cremation has taken place and no service will be held.

Eva Loraine West
Loved Sports

PAONIA - Eva Loraine West, age 92, a homemaker and resident of Paonia for a year and a half, died on Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in the Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Eva Loraine Gardner, the daughter of James William and Ida Mae (Cairel) Gardner, was born on June 14, 1907, in Carbondale, Ky., where she spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Eva married Jack H. West, who preceded her in death.
After living in Winter Springs, Fla., for 23 years, she moved to Grand Junction and remained there one year before moving to Paonia a year and a half ago where she resided until the time of her death.
Eva was a founding member of the Winter Springs Senior Center.
She loved sports especially loved golf and playing cards.
Survivors include one stepson, Jack West Jr. and wife Carolyn, of Kerrville, Texas; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Agnes and husband Bob Johnson, of Paonia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eva was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
No local services will be held. Interment will be conducted in the Highland Memorial Gardens at Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Local arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc., (970) 874-9988.

James Scott Terry
WW II Vet, Retired Meat Cutter

DAINGERFIELD, Texas - World World II veteran, James Scott Terry, age 81, a retired meat cutter and a resident of Daingerfield, Texas, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 11, 2000, in the home of his daughter, Marsha Crenshaw, at Montrose.
James Scott Terry was born on June 11, 1918, in Newport News, Va.
During World War II, he was proud to serve his country in the United States Army.
James was employed as a meat cutter prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Terry.
James was a member of the South Union Missionary Baptist Church of Daingerfield, Texas, and Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 438, serving the lodge as a Master Mason.
Survivors very grateful to have shared James' life are three daughters: Janice Carol Lawrence, of Houston, Texas; Marsha Jeanne Crenshaw, of Montrose; Debra Ellen Parker, also of Houston, Texas; and three stepchildren: Carolyn Sue Helton, of Jenkins, Texas; Steven Lee Nesselrode, of Avinger, Texas; and Betty Marlene Sumners, of Joplin, Mo.
James was the proud and loving grandfather of 22 grandchildren and the great-grandfather of 16 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Edna Mae Glenn, of Climax, Mich.; and Jane Hodge Bussell, of Brooksville, Fla.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor James' life will be officiated by Dr. Neal Clark and Pastor Jay Crenshaw on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. in the South Union Missionary Baptist Church at Daingerfield, Texas.

Mary Ann (Southerland) Renfro
In Loving Memory

NEEDLES, Calif. - Mary Ann Southerland was born on April 16, 1909 in Meers, Okla. She died on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville, Caif. at the age of 90.
Mary had eight siblings, six brothers and two sisters. She spent most of her young life in Montrose, Colo. She married Bithel Hunter Renfro and they lovingly welcomed seven children born to their union at Montrose, with their son Jimmy, dying in infancy.
Mary and Bithel owned and operated the Renfro's Fruit Market, established in 1938. The Renfro family moved to Needles, Calif. in 1946, where Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 1982.
Following her husband's death, Mary continued to make her home in Needles until the time of her own death.
She was a member of the Christian Church, a former member of the local Women's Club, and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. Mary was one of the first to move into the newly built Mesa Grande Apartments.
Survivors left to cherish Mary's memory are her remaining six children: Helen Blackburn, of Mohave Valley, Ariz.; Chuck Renfro and wife Bonnie, of Needles, Calif.; Hazel and husband Clifford Hamblin, of Montrose; Ethel Shepherd, of Needles, Calif.; Laura and husband Taylor Finley, of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and Ruth and husband John "Sonny" Thomas, of Needles, Calif.
Mary was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, the great-grandmother of 31 great-grandchildren, and the great-great-grandmother of 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Steve Southerland, of Clarkston, Wash.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Mary's life were conducted at graveside on Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. in Needles, Calif.
At Mary's request, memorial contributions may be made in her name at either the Senior Center or at the Christian Church in Needles, Calif.
