NATURITA - James Rex "J.R." Narramore Jr., age 42, a resident of Naturita most of his life, died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home in Naturita.
James Rex Narramore Jr. was born in Riverton, Wyo. on March 20, 1957, the son of James Rex Narramore Sr. and Jewel Pauline (Williams) Narramore. He spent his childhood in Wyoming, Oregon, and Colorado, graduating from the Nucla High School in Nucla, Colo.
J.R. was employed as an operator of heavy equipment.
He was a member of the Naturita Moose Lodge and the Nucla/Naturita Volunteer Fire Department.
The greatest loves in J.R.'s life were spending time with his family, the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors very grateful to have shared J.R.'s life are his former wife, Shelli Painter; two sons: Jason Edward Narramore; and Justin James Narramore, all of Nucla; and his mother, Jewel Narramore, of Naturita.
Other family survivors include three brothers: Beva Haliburton Leyerly and Clinton Eugene Leyerly, both of Naturita; Toliver Michael Narramore, of Hawthorne, Nev.; and two sisters: Elizabeth Ann Manis, of Paonia; and Tanya Janeau Narramore, of Naturita.
J.R. was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, James Rex Narramore Sr.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor J.R.'s life will be officiated by Mike Childress on Friday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. in the Trinity Baptist Church, 203 West 2nd St., in Naturita. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Gene Koutz
Korean Conflict Veteran
Feb. 4, 1930 - Dec. 28, 1999
DELTA - Melvin Eugene "Gene" Koutz, age 69, of Delta, died on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home in Delta.
Melvin Eugene Koutz, the son of Christopher and Millie (Slaight) Koutz, was born on Feb. 4, 1930 in Mountain Home, Idaho.
During the Korean Conflict, Gene served his country in the United States Air Force from October of 1950 until October of 1951, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He married Leota Allyne Forsythe on July 19, 1971 in Reno, Nev. Gene and Leota shared 28 loving years of marriage this year in July.
Ten years ago the Koutzs moved to Delta from Fort Lupton, Colo. where Gene worked as a warehouse man for the Weicker Moving & Storage Company in Denver.
He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 17 of Denver.
During his lifetime, Gene especially loved and enjoyed farming, fishing, and reading.
Survivors left to cherish Gene's memory are his wife, Leota Koutz, of Delta; two sons: Jeff Koutz, of Delta; Melvin Carroll, of Denver; and one daughter, Gayle Webb, of Denver.
Gene was the proud and loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren and the great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Ray Jones, of Cortez; and two sisters: Evelyn Norris, of Grand Junction; and Patricia Mustain, of Colorado Springs.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Christopher Koutz; his mother, Millie (Slaight) DeRoss; four brothers: Wayne Jones, Dale Jones, Roy Jones, Joey Koutz; and two sisters: Ruth Prather and Amy Irhig.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Gene's life will be officiated on Friday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Delta, in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Mesa View Cemetery
at Delta, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta, 970/874-8633.

Roy F. Hawk
Beloved Father, Grandfather

DELTA - Roy F. Hawk, age 86, a retired plumber, of Delta, died on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home in Delta.
Roy F. Hawk, the son of Guy and Ethel (Caster) Hawk, was born on Aug. 12, 1913 in Pine Bluff, Wyo. When he was 9 years old he moved with his family to Silt, Colo., and then to Grand Junction. In 1929 the Hawk family moved to Delta, where Roy graduated from the Delta High School.
While farming with his father on California Mesa, Roy served in the National Guard for three years.
He married Ramona Ragsdale on Sept. 28, 1940 in Grand Junction, Colo. Roy and Ramona lovingly welcomed three sons born to their union. They were privileged to share 59 years of marriage this year in September.
Roy helped his brother, Farrel, during hunting season for over 40 years. He worked for Carl Himes Plumbing & Heating for 18 years, then worked in plumbing for himself for 20 years prior to his retirement.
He served on the Delta Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years, and was Fire Chief four years during that time. Roy was a Babe Ruth baseball coach for five years and was also on the board of directors for the Babe Ruth Baseball Association. He also belonged to the IOOF Lodge No. 116 since 1948.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Roy's life are his wife, Ramona Hawk, of Delta; three sons: Frank Hawk and wife Karen, of Ridgway; Wayne Hawk and wife Debbie, of Montrose; Carl Hawk and wife Dana, of Ridgway; and one daughter, Alice and husband Steve Padua, also of Ridgway.
Roy was the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren: Christopher Hawk, Matthew Hawk, Jordan Ann Hawk, Lorrie Hawk Lane, Shannon Hawk, Hastings Padua, Lauren Hawk, and Vance Hawk.
Other family survivor include two sisters: Fern Sankey, of Grand Junction; Hazel Clark, of Crawford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Roy's life will be officiated on Friday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. in the Delta City Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta, 970/874-8633.

Lois M. Engwall
Homemaker, File Clerk

MONTROSE - Lois M. Engwall, age 77, a homemaker, retired file clerk, and a resident of Montrose, died late Sunday evening, Dec. 26, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
Lois M. Ahrens was born in Buhl, Idaho on Jan. 12, 1922, the daughter of John and Ida (Lutz) Ahrens, who were the parents of nine children. She spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood in Clover, Idaho. While attending high school, Lois also worked on the farm.
She married Maurice Wherry, who preceded her in death in 1961.
Lois married Clarence Engwall on July 28, 1962 in Whittier, Calif. Lois and Clarence were privileged to share 37 loving years of marriage this year in July. Clarence preceded Lois in death just six days ago on Monday morning, Dec. 20, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
After living in Clover, Idaho for 20 years, Lois moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1942. Lois and Clarence lived in Whittier, Calif. and after he retired the family moved to Wickenburg, Ariz., in 1981 where they lived for 15 years before moving to Montrose in 1996.
Lois was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Wickenberg, Ariz. and belonged to the church's clubs.
Special interests that added meaning and much pleasure to Lois' life were gardening, cooking, playing cards, church activities, and traveling. She loved to travel with her husband Clarence, visiting their family and friends.
Survivors so grateful to have shared Lois' life are one son, Steven Wherry and wife Susan, of Montrose; two stepsons: Wayne Engwall and wife Georgene, of Alturas, Calif.; David Engwall and wife Mary, of Brea, Calif.; and one stepdaughter, Liz and husband Ron Soler, of Montrose.
Lois was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Amber Soler, of Montrose; Eric and Tim Engwall, of Brea, Calif.; Julie Harrington, of Westminster, Calif.; Scott Engwall, of Mesa, Ariz.; Kyle, Keith, and Regina Wherry, all of Montrose; and the great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren: Aubrie and Haily Harrington; and Adam and Zachary Engwall.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Arnold Ahrens, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; Harley Ahrens, of Twin Falls, Idaho; and two sisters: Caroline Fischer, of Twin Falls, Idaho; and Francis Walter, of Jerome, Idaho.
In addition to her parents and both of her husbands, Lois was also preceded in death by two sisters: Edna Meadow and Margaret Ruhter; and two brothers: Vernon Ahrens and Everett Ahrens.
Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor Lois' life were officiated by Pastor Darryl Hannenberg on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service concluded at the chapel.
Cremation followed the service, with arrangements handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Orville Ennis
World War II Veteran

CEDAREDGE - Orville Ennis, age 79, a World War II veteran, a retired superintendent of commercial construction, and a resident of Cedaredge since 1994, died on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Integrated Health Services at Delta.
Orville Ennis, the son of James Riley Ennis and Laura (Ellington) Ennis, was born on Nov. 30, 1920 in Gentry, Ark., where he spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
During World War II, Orville served his country as a United States Army Staff Sergeant from 1942 until 1946.
He married Fern Hubbard, who preceded him in death in 1961 in Basin, Wyo.
Orville married Celia Arlene Kraft on July 13, 1963 in Gillette, Wyo. Orville and Celia celebrated 36 loving years of marriage last year in July.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as superintendent of commercial construction with Smith Construction Company, constructing buildings, interstate bridges and water plants.
He lived in Del Norte for 10 years and Buffalo, Wyo. for 26 years before moving to Cedaredge in 1994 where he made his home until the time of his death.
Orville was a member of the Cedaredge Assembly of God Church.
He especially loved and enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher, a church Deacon, and exploring back country mountain roads.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Orville's life are his wife, Celia Ennis, of Cedaredge; one son, Elwood Ennis, of Lovell, Wyo.; three daughters: Deborah Gibson, of Houston, Texas; Naomi Parkin, of Evanston, Wyo.; Ramona Ennis, of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three brothers: James Ennis, of Cedaredge; Ralph Ennis, of Helena, Mont.; David Ennis, of Yuma, Ariz.; and one sister, Geri Sartain, of Grand Junction.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Fern, Orville was also preceded in death by an infant son, Darrell Ennis; two brothers: Emil and Edwin Ennis; and one sister, Marie Burris.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Orville's life will be officiated by The Rev. Bob Hillyer on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 3 p.m. in the Cedaredge Assembly of God Church.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedaredge Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. of Cedaredge.
Ted Hebrew

DELTA - Louis Roosevelt "Ted" Hebrew, age 95, a businessman and resident of Delta since 1950, died on Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in the Integrated Health Services at Delta.
Louis Roosevelt Hebrew, the son of Evan and Flora (Jordan) Hebrew, was born on Oct. 9, 1904 in Bowcreek, Kan.
Ted married Alice Slansky on Oct. 3, 1925 in Hays, Kan. Ted and Alice lovingly welcomed one son and one daughter born to their union. The couple were privileged to share 74 years of marriage last year in October.
Ted operated a bakery in Goodland, Kan. during World War II and baked bread for the troops. He would then send the bread on the troop trains. He also lived in Agra, Kan. for seven years. While in Agra, he served a term as the Mayor of Agra.
In 1950, the Hebrew family moved from Goodland, Kan. to Delta and started the Ben Franklin Store on main street. Ted operated the store until his retirement in 1965. He also assisted his son at McKnight's Jewelry for the last 30 years.
Ted was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, was a 46-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a former member of the Elks Lodge.
He especially enjoyed the Dunbar Coffee Club every morning and among his hobbies he enjoyed during his lifetime were collecting bolo ties and studying old cars.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Ted's life are his wife, Alice Hebrew, of Delta; one son, Louis Donald Hebrew, also of Delta; and one daughter, Joyce Elaine Anson, of Lakewood.
Ted was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Richard Anson, Marci Anson, Phillip Hebrew, David Campbell, Jay Campbell, Mike Campbell; and the great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Velma Main, of Cascade, Colo.
Ted was preceded in death by his father, Evan Hebrew; his mother, Flora Hebrew; six brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Ted's life will be officiated on Monday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel at Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta, (970) 874-8633.

Ray E. McAllister
Korean Conflict Veteran

DENVER - Ray E. McAllister, age 71, of Denver, died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Denver.
Ray E. McAllister was born in Safford, Ariz. on Sept. 3, 1928.
He served his country during the Korean Conflict, from Jan. 13, 1949 to June 17, 1952. He received the OCE Medal (Japan), five Bronze Service Stars, the Bronze Star Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Ray was honorably
discharged from military service in 1952.
Survivors grateful to have shared Ray's life are two sons: Robert P. Silburn, of Arvada; Vince Silburn, of Golden; and one daughter, JoAnn Lucero, of Wheat Ridge.
Ray was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren; and the great-grandfather of two great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Howard McAllister, of Texarkana, Texas; and two sisters: Ruth Schubert, of Montrose; and Joyce Turnbull, of Aztec, N.M.
Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Ray's life will be officiated on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 2:30 p.m. in the Fort Logan National Cemetery
at Denver.

L. Curtis McClanahan
26-Yr. Eckert Resident

ECKERT - L. Curtis McClanahan, age 89, a resident of Eckert for 26 years, died on Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in his home at Eckert.
L. Curtis McClanahan, the son of Clinton C. and Ethel (Remines) McClanahan, was born on Oct. 21, 1910, in Grande, Va. When he was a small boy, he moved West with his family living in the Fairplay area and Frasier. He received his education in Frasier, where he lived for 30 years until he moved his family to Denver.
Curtis married Elsie E. Bouck in June of 1929 in Laramie, Wyo. Curtis and Elsie lovingly welcomed two sons born to their union.
Prior to his retirement, Curtis was employed laying carpet in businesses.
In 1973, Curtis and Elsie moved to Eckert, where Curtis made his home for 26 years until the time of his death. Elsie preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1998 in Grand Junction.
He loved and especially enjoyed the outdoors, elk and deer hunting, and fishing. Curtis hunted and fished into his mid-60s. He will be so greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Curtis' life are two sons: L.C. McClanahan and wife Betty L., of Albuquerque, N.M.; Richard L. McClanahan and wife Michiyo, of Eckert; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, James E. McClanahan; and one sister, Dorothy Bigham, both of Denver.
In addition to his wife, Elsie, Curtis was also preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ethel McClanahan.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
