Elizabeth Parsons Lehman
Loved People, Served Her Community

MONTROSE - A special lady, who was known as "Betty," Elizabeth Parsons Lehman, age 84, of Montrose, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 26, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose. Betty was the wife of the late Dr. Charles A. Lehman who delivered 10,000 babies in his 40 years of medical practice.
Elizabeth Parsons, the daughter of William R. Parsons and Alice (Bemis) Parsons, was born on June 26, 1915, in Springfield, Mass., where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school in 1932, and grew to adulthood. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College For Women in New London, Conn.
Betty married Charles A. Lehman on April 18, 1939 in Springfield, Mass. Betty and Charles' union was blessed with one son and three daughters.
The Lehmans lived in Williamsport, Pa.; Quechee, Vt.; and Hanover, N.H. Charles preceded Betty in death on June 14, 1984, at Quechee, Vt.
Betty, a homemaker, moved to Montrose where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Church of Christ at Dartmouth.
Betty did so much volunteer and service work in her community of Lycoming County, Williamsport, Pa. over the years. She worked with the following service organizations:
Family and Children Services, YWCA, Lycoming County United Fund, Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary, Lycoming County Medical Auxiliary, Williamsport High School American Field Service, Williamsport Home for Children, Bethune Douglas Community Center, and Covenant Central Presbyterian Church as the first female deacon.
Betty also received the following service awards: The Lycoming County United Fund in 1970, the Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews in 1961; The Grit Award for meritorious community service in 1964, Woman of the Year for the Williamsport Chapter of AAUW in 1964, and the West Branch Plan for Equality of Opportunity Award for outstanding service.
Betty loved people and especially enjoyed helping others, walking, skiing, and playing Bridge.
Survivors include one son, Charles A. Lehman Jr., of Carthage, N.Y.; three daughters: Anne Lysaght, of Wellesley, Mass; Beth Zabloski, of Sharon, Mass.; Judy Lokey, of Montrose; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Helen Lehman.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Betty's life will be held at a later date in Williamsport, Pa.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Lester A. Washburn
Husband, Father, Grandfather
Oct. 8, 1907 - Oct. 28, 1999
DELTA - Lester A. Washburn, a resident of Delta since 1996, died on Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at his home in Delta, 20 days after celebrating his 92nd birthday.
Born on Oct. 8, 1907 in Burlington, Vt., Lester A. Washburn was the son of Arthur Washburn and Mary (Williams) Washburn. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in the Randolph, Vt. area.
Lester lived in Arizona from 1948 to 1951, St. Paul, Ore. from 1952 to 1986, Austin, Colo. from 1986 to 1996, and Delta from 1996 until the time of his death.
Prior to his retirement, Lester was employed as a logger, heavy equipment operator, and farmhand.
His marriage to Alice Marion DuSharm ended in divorce. In 1952, Lester married Goldie Rae Shaffer and she preceded him in death in 1978. Lester then married Ethel Durfee on March 3, 1979 in Aurora, Ore. and they were privileged to share 11 years of marriage this year in March.
Lester was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Delta.
During his lifetime, Lester received the most pleasure and enjoyment from hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Washburn, of Delta; three sons: Dean E. Washburn and wife Viola; Don E. Washburn and wife Joy, all of Guthrie, Minn.; Lester Arthur Washburn Jr. and wife Barbara, of Gold Hill, Ore.; and three daughters: Sandy and husband Bob Brown, of Azalea, Ore.; Nancy and husband Al La Cross, of Buckley, Wash.; and Linda Stephanich, of Winston, Ore.
Lester was the proud and loving grandfather of 24 grandchildren, the great-grandfather of numerous great-grandchildren; and the great-great-grandfather of several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first two wives, and one sister, Beatrice Knight.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Lester's life will be officiated by Pastor Marion Hofman on Monday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. from the Delta Redeemer Lutheran Church. The service will conclude at the church.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Andrew J. Trujillo
Retired Denver School Teacher
March 15, 1936 - Oct. 28, 1999
MONTROSE - Andrew J. Trujillo, age 63, of Montrose, died late Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, 1999, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Andrew J. Trujillo, the son of Cris Trujillo and Julia (Olguin) Trujillo, was born on March 15, 1936, in Salida, Colo., where he spent his childhood, graduated from the Salida High School, and grew to adulthood. Andrew graduated from Western State College in Gunnison in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1971 he received his Master's degree in Science/Education from the Northern Illinois University.
Andrew married Elaine Campbell on June 21, 1958 in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Salida. Two children were born to their union and they were privileged to share 41 loving years of marriage this year in June.
The Trujillos established their home in Denver where Andrew taught high school chemistry and coached football until his retirement in 1992.
Andrew and Elaine built their retirement home in Montrose and made Montrose their home in December of 1998 where Andrew resided until the time of his death.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Montrose, the N.E.A., the C.E.A., and D.P.S.R.E.A.
Andrew truly loved and delighted in spending time with his two grandchildren, fishing, golfing, traveling, and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Trujillo, of Montrose; one son, Mike Trujillo and wife Sandy, of Montrose; one daughter, Julie and husband Dean Thomas, of Denver; and two grandchildren: Drew and Laura Trujillo, of Montrose.
Other family survivors include his mother, Julia Trujillo; one sister, Ramona and husband Gerald Marshall; and an aunt, Denny Olguin, all of Salida.
Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Cris Trujillo, on Jan. 4, 1995.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Andrew's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The service will conclude at the church.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Viola Vivian Pollock
Former Cedaredge Resident
June 18, 1913 - Oct. 17, 1999
MOUNT AYR, Iowa - Viola Vivian Hamilton was born in Cedaredge, Colo. on June 18, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Closson) Hamilton. Viola died on Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 86.
She grew up in Cedaredge where she attended and graduated from the Cedaredge High School, and grew to adulthood.
Vivian was united in marriage to Lynn R. Pollock on Dec. 24, 1932, in Cedaredge and six children were born to this union.
In 1951, the Pollock family moved to Ringgold County, Iowa, where Vivian made her home until the time of her death.
After her husband's death, she took nurses aid training and stayed with several senior citizens so they could stay in their own homes. The last several years, Vivian made her home with her son, James Pollock and wife Patty, and spent time with other family members.
Vivian was a member and faithfully attended the Wishard Chapel United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Vivan's memory are four sons: James Pollock and wife Patty, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; John Pollock and wife Catherine, of Malvern, Iowa; Frank Pollock and wife Judy, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; Tom Pollock and wife Helen, of Malvern, Iowa; one daughter, Erma and husband Charles Scearcy, of Ollie, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Melva Jones, of Eckert; one brother-in-law, Avery Pollock and wife Wanda, of Austin, Colo.; two sisters-in-law: Edith Leonard, of Delta; Mildred Hamilton, of Hotchkiss; and a host of other family and friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter; and one brother, Ray Hamilton, of Hotchkiss.
Jack M. Miles
Loving Husband, Best Father Ever
Oct. 27, 1939 - Oct. 26, 1999
MONTROSE - Jack M. Miles, age 59, of the Coal Creek community near Montrose, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 26, 1999, from injuries he received in a farming accident on his farm near Montrose, the afternoon before he would have celebrated his 60th birthday the next day.
Jack M. Miles was born on Oct. 27, 1939 in Spooner, Wis., where he spent his childhood, graduated from the Spooner High School, and grew to adulthood.
Jack married Sharon Lou Lovick on Dec. 14, 1959, in Spooner, Wis. Jack and Sharon would have shared 40 loving years of marriage this year in December.
In 1969, Jack moved his family to Colorado and in 1971 started Montrose Plumbing & Heating. He retired from the business in 1996.
In 1976 he built their home in Coal Creek community where he raised his family. Jack was a strong and active man and was working on his home when the accident occurred in the field which took his life.
Jack spent his entire life striving to improve the future of his family. The lessons he taught his children never say "I can't," "never look back except to learn from your mistakes" were well learned and will never be forgotten.
Jack was a member of the Montrose Christian Church. He was a solid Christian, the best father ever, a more loving husband will never live, and he was an example to all who knew and loved him.
Survivors grateful for having shared Jack's life are his wife, Sharon Miles, of Montrose; and his children: Christine and Anthony Baker of Killeen, Texas; Polly and Wes Hohlenkamp of Atwater, Calif. and their children: Ashley and Stephanie; Matt and Marci Miles of Montrose and their children: Nicholas and Stephanie; Amy Amans of Grand Junction and her children: Madeleine and Ethan; Abigail and Eli Power of Montrose and their children: Davis and Lillian; Scott and Laray Miles of Ellensburg, Wash. and their children: Kimberly and Trevor; and one sister, Janet and husband Jerry Hines, of Anchorage, Alaska.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Crippin Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Jack's life will be officiated by Jim Peters on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Montrose Christian Church.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Opal 'Laverne' Coghill
Retired Avon Representative
May 12, 1924 - Oct. 31, 1999
MONTROSE - Opal "Laverne" Coghill, age 75, a resident of Montrose for 55 years and longer in the surrounding areas, died Sunday morning, Oct. 31, 1999, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Opal Laverne Ayer was born in Crawford, Colo. on May 12, 1924, the daughter of Lewis Edward Ayer and Delcia Fern (Lafton) Ayer. She spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood in Crawford and Hotchkiss.
Laverne married Charles "Fritz" Coghill on Nov. 16, 1946, in Grand Junction. Their marriage was blessed with one son and two daughters.
Prior to her retirement, Laverne sold Avon for 27 years.
Fritz preceded Laverne in death on March 28, 1995 in Montrose.
She was a member of the Montrose Christian Church.
Laverne loved and especially enjoyed arrowhead hunting, wildlife watching, and Avon collectibles.
Survivors include one son, Amos E. Coghill, of Lamar; and two daughters: Sharon R. Smee, of Ardmore, Okla.; and Connie L. Haptonstall, of Montrose.
Laverne was the proud and loving grandmother of five grandchildren: James Lewis Ary, W. "Grant" Ary, Rebekah Woller, Deborah Siedschlag, and Jayson Haptonstall; and the great-grandmother of 10 great-grandchildren: Tyrel Ary, Mitch Ary, Alex Ary, Shantel Siedsclag, Jeshua Siedschlag, Amanda Ary, Jaroden Siedschlag, Ashley Brown, Samantha and Cory, and awaiting more.
Other family survivors include one brother, Lewis E. Ayer Jr., of Silverdale, Wash.
In addition to her husband, Fritz, Laverne was also preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Laverne's life will be officiated by Minister Doug Anderson on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Montrose Christian Church.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.

Doris T. Herrera
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother
Nov. 9, 1920 - Oct. 29, 1999
DELTA - Doris T. Herrera, age 78, a longtime Delta resident, died on Friday, Oct. 29, in her home at Delta.
Doris T. Trujillo was born in Raton, N.M. on Nov. 9, 1920, the daughter of Simon Trujillo and Maria Barbarita (Candelaria) Trujillo. She moved with her family to Delta in 1925, where she was educated in the Delta County Schools through the seventh grade. At the age of 12, Doris began working in the fields to help support the family.
Two days before her 18th birthday, Doris married Connie Albert Herrera on Nov. 7, 1938, in Delta, Colo. Soon after their marriage, Doris and Connie moved to Utah and resided there for five years and later spent a year in Idaho.
Lovingly welcomed to their union was one son. Doris and Connie would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year on Nov. 7.
Doris worked for the Delta Canning Factory and prior to her retirement was a housekeeper for the Sundance Motel in Delta.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Delta.
Doris was a very devoted mother. She was always so happy while traveling with her husband and it was very seldom that laughter was not heard while being in her presence. Doris loved to dance, gamble, and take vacations with her husband to Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nev.
She became sick about seven years ago and the past two years she spent at home with her husband, with the help of Dr. Wade's staff, which she and her family were so appreciative of.
Doris, honey, you will never be forgotten God Bless You!
Survivors include her husband, Connie A. Herrera, of Delta; one son, Bernard A. Herrera and wife Christine, of Ogden, Utah; two grandsons: Patrick Herrera and wife Lisa, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Christopher Herrera, of Salt Lake City, Utah; one granddaughter, Connie and husband Mike Martinez, of Roy, Utah; and four great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Frank Trujillo; and one sister, Carrie Trujillo, both of Grand Junction.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Henry, Jacob, Emilio, and Eddie Trujillo; and four sisters: Elsie Crespin, Laura Calvillo, Nettie Kuzov, and Lacy Maestas.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel at Delta.
Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Doris' life will be officiated by The Rev. Mike Smith on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church at Delta.
Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
James H. Hussey
A Lifetime Farmer
May 5, 1914 - Oct. 29, 1999
ECKERT - James H. Hussey, of Eckert, died on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in the Horizon Care Center at Eckert at the age of 85. He was a farmer all of his life.
James H. Hussey was born in Austin, Colo. on May 5, 1914, the son of Truman and Myrtle (Schraft) Hussey. He grew up in Delta County and attended Fairview School in Cory.
James married Rose Hill in November of 1954.
Survivors include two sisters: Dorothy Blore, of Standish, Maine; Ruth Rowland, of Austin; and many nieces and nephews, including the following nieces James was close to: Virginia Pulliam, of Reed; Sharon Fuller, of Austin; Darlene Kraus, of Standish, Maine; and a nephew, Ronald Rowland, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Other family survivors include three stepgranddaughters: Sidney Lee, of Colorado Springs; Gail, of Oregon; and Andrea, of Boulder.
In addition to his parents, Truman and Myrtle Hussey; and his wife, Rose; James was also preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Marion Wethington; one brother and one sister.
At James' request, cremation has taken place and his cremated remains will be buried in the Cory Cemetery
at Cory.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
