DELTA - Tyler Mathew Hillis, the son of Thomas and Carmen (Foy) Hillis, was born on Friday, March 19, 1999, in Montrose, Colo. Tyler Mathew, of Delta, died at the age of 4 weeks old on Friday, April 16, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Carmen Hillis; and two brothers: Thomas Hillis Jr. and Timothy Hillis, all of Delta.
Other family survivors include his grandparents: Tom and Marti Foy, of Bonsall, Calif.; Roy and Martha Hillis, of Delta; great-grandparents: Tom and Agnes Foy, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Elma Sue Cox, of Ohio; and two aunts and uncles: Jodi and Dan Edwards, of Oceanside, Calif.; and Michelle and Keith Trujillo, of Delta.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. at Delta.
Funeral Services to honor Tyler Mathew's life will be officiated by Dr. James Hamilton on Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. from the Gunnison Valley Church of the Nazarene in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Mesa View Cemetery
at Delta, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. of Delta.
Harry L. Ergott Jr.
Worked as an Outfitter
July 29, 1961 - April 18, 1999
CIMARRON - Harry L. Ergott Jr. was born in Amarillo, Texas on July 29, 1961, the son of Harry L. Ergott Sr. and Joanne (Roan) Ergott. He died early Sunday morning, April 18, 1999, at the age of 37 in his Cimarron home.
Harry spent his childhood in Amarillo, Texas; Missouri and Pennsylvania before moving with his family at the age of 11 from Pennsylvania to Cimarron. He graduated from the Montrose High School in 1979.
On Feb. 17, 1988, Harry and Carol Paris were married in Pennsylvania.
Harry was employed as an outfitter for The Little Big Horn Lodge. His profession as an outfitter awarded him the opportunity to meet people from all across the United States which led to many wonderful and lasting friendships.
The Division of Wildlife greatly appreciated Harry and his family's willingness to support any wildlife issues and their efforts to raise money for the division and its employees. They helped with the winter wildlife feeding program and sponsored hunts over the last several years, with the funds raised to help sponsor the North American Conservation Officers Hall of Fame in North Dakota.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Montrose.
Harry's love of the mountains endowed his life with passions such as hunting big game, fishing the high mountain lakes and streams with friends and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. These activities always brought a smile to Harry's face, a smile which has touched many hearts over the years, a smile that will truly be missed and surely never forgotten.
Survivors include Harry's wife of 11 years, Carol Ergott, of Montrose; and one son, Stephen J. Micenec, of Cimarron.
Other family survivors include his parents, Harry L. Ergott Sr. and Joanne Ergott; and two sisters: Tina and husband Rick Mayer; and Penny and husband Alan Bishop, all of Montrose.
Memorial Mass in remembrance and to honor Harry's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber on Thursday, April 22, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Montrose.
A second Memorial Service to celebrate Harry's life will take place, immediately following the Memorial Mass, at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, also officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Memorial gifts may be made to: Norwest Bank, Harry Ergott Jr. Benefit Fund, Acct. No. 6255078579. The funds will go to the University Hospital in Denver for Cancer Research.
John "Dick" Poulos Jr.
Retired Chef/Baker
May 16, 1920 - April 17, 1999
PAONIA - John "Dick" Poulos Jr., the son of John and Fronia (Tucker) Poulos, was born on May 16, 1920, in Paonia, Colo. He died on Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the age of 78 in the Paonia Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Dick spent his childhood in Paonia, graduated from the Paonia High School in 1939, and continued to pursue his education at Chilicothe Business College in Chilicothe, Mo.
He served his country in the United States Navy.
Dick married Mary Alice Holvoet on May 1, 1947, in Paonia, Colo. To this union two daughters were born.
A life-long Paonia resident, Dick was employed as a chef/baker prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 24, 1997, in Grand Junction.
Dick was a 50-year member of the American Legion.
Special interests he greatly enjoyed during his lifetime were his pets, cooking, baking, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family. In his later years, Dick found great pleasure in all of his dogs.
He is survived by two daughters: Susan and husband Rick Smith, of Delta; Mary Jane Poulos, of Paonia; and two grandchildren: Christopher and Meghan Smith.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Pete Poulos, of Paonia; and James Poulos, of Golden.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was also preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Palese and Georgia Cheves.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Dick's life will be officiated by James Gall on Wednesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. from the Paonia Christian Church. Dick's son-in-law, Rick Smith, will give the eulogy.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

James "Jim" Bonato
Retired Telluride Mill Machinist
March 28, 1923 - April 21, 1999
MONTROSE - James "Jim" Bonato, the son of Sabastian and Mariana (Tasca) Bonato, was born on March 28, 1923, in Telluride, Colo. He died Wednesday evening, April 21, 1999, at the age of 76 in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Jim spent his childhood, graduated from the Telluride High School, and grew to adulthood in Telluride.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist with the Telluride Mill for many years.
Jim was a lifelong Telluride resident until moving to Montrose approximately 17 years ago where he made his home until the time of his death.
He was raised a Catholic and was a lifetime member of the Telluride Elks Lodge No. 692, serving as a Past Exalted Ruler of the lodge.
Jim loved all sports and watching it on TV and enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoes.
Survivors include a sister, Perina and husband Elmer Ranta, of Montrose; his twin sister, Johanna and husband James Lehrer, of Pueblo; three nieces: Rica Lehrer, Vicki Eldsmo, Mary Ann Lund; and two nephews: Kirk D. Lehrer and Allan Ranta.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Dan Lehrer.
Memorial Services to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Huber on Wednesday, April 28, at 2 p.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Cremation has taken place, with inurnment of the cremains to be held at a later date in the Lone Tree Cemetery
at Telluride.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Kenneth Harlan Brown
Retired Office Manager
Dec. 21, 1905 - April 25, 1999
CEDAREDGE - Kenneth Harlan Brown, the son of James William and Frances (Harlan) Brown, was born on Dec. 21, 1905, in Randolph County, Mo. He died on Sunday, April 25, 1999, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at the age of 93. He had been a resident of Cedaredge since Dec. 12, 1970.
Kenneth spent his childhood in Kit Carson County, Colo., where he received his education and grew to adulthood.
He served his country as a PFC in the United States Army from Feb. 11, 1924 to Feb. 10, 1927.
After growing up in Kit Carson County, Colo., Kenneth lived in Colorado Springs and then moved to Denver where he made his home for 40 years. On Dec. 12, 1970, he moved from Denver to Cedaredge where he remained until the time of his death.
He married Gertrude E. Warren on Dec. 29, 1926, in Evergreen, Colo. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1967, in Denver.
On April 5, 1968, Kenneth married Anna Marie Ford in Lakewood, Colo. Kenneth and Anna were privileged to celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary earlier this month.
Prior to his retirement, Kenneth was employed as an office manager for American District Telegraph for 40 years.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. of Cedaredge and special interests he found great pleasure in during his lifetime were woodworking, hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Brown, of Cedaredge; one grandson, Warren Harlan Brown Jr., of Denver; one great-granddaughter, Christina Ann; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Gertrude, he was also preceded in death by one son, Warren Harlan Brown; and one sister, Katha Marie Tanner.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
J.A. "Buzz" Coffman
Beloved Husband, Parent, Grandparent
July 26, 1915 - April 20, 1999
MONTROSE - Montrose resident, J.A. "Buzz" Coffman, age 83, died after a short illness on Tuesday, April 20, 1999.
Buzz was born on July 26, 1915, in Kansas but spent most of his life in Denver, Colo.
He and his wife of 57 years, Dottie, moved to Montrose in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie Coffman, of Montrose; one daughter, Sandi Garrett, of Tulsa, Okla.; and three granddaughters: Marnie Brockman, of Tulsa, Okla.; Wendy Daru, of Denver; and Diva Bechtold, of Vancouver, Canada.
Buzz was an avid fisherman. He and Dottie loved to travel in their trailer, making people smile and laugh wherever they went.
He loved the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. He also loved to swim and won several medals in the Senior Olympics.
Buzz found the best in others and truly made the world a better place. He'll be missed more than he could ever know.
Services will be held on Friday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at the Montrose United Methodist Church. The service will conclude at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Buzz's name, to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program where Buzz loved to donate his time.
Chad Wayne Cookston
Greatly Loved Family, Friends
March 14, 1983 - April 12, 1999
CRAIG - Chad Wayne Cookston, age 16, a lifelong resident of Craig, died on Monday, April 12, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
Chad Wayne Cookston was born on March 14, 1983, in Craig, Colo., the son of Wayne and Diane (Hubert) Cookston. Chad spent his childhood in Craig and was a sophomore student at the Moffat County High School at the time of his death.
He played percussion in the high school band, was a member of the boys swim team, the soccer team, the Craig Sea Sharks, and belonged to the youth group of the Congregational Church.
Craig's hobbies he found great pleasure in were four-wheeling, mountain biking, snow skiing, hunting, camping, and traveling.
He had such a great love for his family and friends.
Survivors very grateful to have shared Craig's short time here on earth include his parents, Wayne and Diane Cookston; and one sister, Shawn Cookston, all of Craig.
Other family survivors include Craig's grandparents: Evelyn Cookston; Lynn and Bill Hubert, all of Montrose; great-grandparents: A.M. and Mary Cookston, of Denver; Nettie Hubert, of Montrose; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate Craig's life were officiated by The Revs. Kenneth Forshee and Tim Osborn on Friday, April 16, at 4 p.m. at the Craig Middle School Auditorium.
Prelude to the service was by the M.C.H.S. Band "How Firm Thy Friendship." Elaine DeuPree served as pianist. Musical selections by The Congregational Choir were "God Of The Sparrow" and "Surely The Presence." A piano solo was performed from Forrest Gump, "The Feather Theme." A special musical selection was "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You."
Pallbearers were Dylan Schopper, Jeremy Thuney, Travis Butts, Wes Lytle, Josh Shipley, Kole Nielson, Nick Davis, Brandon Cramer, and Ben Koucherik.
Interment followed the service in the Craig Cemetery, with arrangements handled under the direction of the Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, Colo. 81625.
Memorial gifts may be made to a Memorial Fund in Memory of Chad, c/o Bank of Colorado.
Albert E. "Gene" Hancock
Retired Railroad Engineer
March 29, 1914 - April 22, 1999
MONTROSE - Albert E. "Gene" Hancock was born in Santa Rita, N.M., on March 29, 1914, the son of Allen M. and Ellen (Rudd) Hancock. He died early Thursday morning, April 22, 1999, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose at the age of 85.
Gene graduated from the Austin High School in El Paso, Texas.
During World War II, Gene served his country as a locomotive engineer in France and Germany with the 723 Operating Battalion in the United States Army.
He married Jeanne Thorpe on Jan. 30, 1943, in Las Cruces, N.M. Their union was blessed with one son and one daughter and they were privileged to share 56 years of marriage.
Prior to his retirement, Gene was employed as a railroad engineer.
After being lifelong El Paso, Texas residents, the Hancocks moved to Montrose a year ago to be closer to their family, where Gene made his home until the time of his death.
He was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite member in El Paso, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Hancock, of Montrose; one son, Gene McCardle and wife Nell, of El Paso, Texas; and one daughter, Carole and husband Pastor Frank Vanlandingham, of Montrose.
Gene was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Leslie Zeiger, Kyle McCardle, Patricia McCardle, all of El Paso, Texas; Kelly Vanlandingham, Christine Woerner, both of Montrose; Shelly Waggoner, of Aurora; and the great-grandfather of eight great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Perkins.
Memorial Services to honor and celebrate Gene's life will be officiated on Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. from the Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church, 2705 Sunnyside, Rd., in Montrose. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
