Beatrice M. Runyan
A Giving and Caring Person
Oct. 29, 1918 - March 29, 1999
MONTROSE - Beatrice M. Runyan, age 80, a resident of Montrose for 43 years, died of a sudden illness on Monday, March 29, 1999, at her Montrose home.
Beatrice M. Hook, the daughter of Charles H. and Bertha Mae (Smith) Hook, was born on Oct. 29, 1918 in Shickshinny, Pa., where she spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Beatrice married Archie Nevin Runyan on Sept. 27, 1944, in Jonestown, Pa. After their marriage, the couple operated the dairy farm that had been in Archie's family since the Civil War.
When he was a young man, Archie had come West to Norwood because of a serious bronchitis. Once he recovered, he returned to Pennsylvania but never forgot the beauty of this area.
When one of Archie and Beatrice's children developed a respiratory illness, Archie decided to sell the dairy and move his family to Montrose County. The Runyans arrived in Montrose in May of 1956 and Archie began working for the City of Montrose where he became the superintendent of parks, and Beatrice established their home. She also worked as a housekeeper for the Lazy I.G., The Red Barn, and the San Juan Inn for a number of years.
On Feb. 24, 1997, Archie preceded Beatrice in death at Montrose.
Beatrice was a member and officer of the Montrose Emblem Club, and both she and her husband were active in the Elks Lodge activities and charities.
Beatrice enjoyed caring for her family and her home and especially enjoyed working in her yard, caring for her flowers and other plants. She was a giving and caring person who spent as much time as was needed to assist and care for others. Beatrice enjoyed being outdoors and camping with her family.
Survivors include two daughters: Sue and husband David Wince, of Montrose; Dorothy and husband Walt St. Clair, of Golden Valley, Ariz.; one grandson, Jason Jeffries and wife Kimberly; and one great-grandson, Todd Brandon Jeffries, all of Fort Bragg, N.C.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Kenneth Hook of Shickshinny, Pa.; and Raymond Hook, of Montrose.
In addition to her parents and husband, Beatrice was also preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Beatrice's life will be officiated on Friday, April 2, at 11 a.m. from the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Edwin R. Stoll
Retired Rancher
Feb. 3, 1905 - April 1, 1999
MONTROSE - Edwin R. Stoll, a retired rancher and a resident of Montrose since 1969, died Thursday afternoon, April 1, 1999, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday, April 5, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose, with Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Edwin's life following visitation at 11 a.m. in the Olathe Cemetery
at Olathe, with Bishop Dean Skalla officiating.
Arrangments are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Edwin R. Stoll was born in Rocky, Colo., on Feb. 3, 1905, the son of Joseph and Frances (White) Stoll. He attended the Rocky Grade School in Rocky, Colo., and spent his childhood in Lake George, Colo.
Edwin married Goldie Johnson on Nov. 14, 1926, in Florissant, Colo. Edwin and Goldie were blessed with two sons and one daughter.
In 1969, the Stolls moved from Carbondale to Montrose where Edwin made his home until the time of his death.
Edwin loved life and his family. He was a very devoted husband for 72 years. He was a wonderful horseman and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Stoll; two sons: Romaine Stoll and Ralph Stoll and wife Bea; one daughter, Lula and husband William Jeffryes, all of Montrose; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one daughter-in-law, Erma.
Ruby M. Wilson
Elementary School Teacher
Nov. 19, 1903 - March 30, 1999
DELTA - Retired third grade elementary school teacher, Ruby M. Wilson, age 95, a resident of Delta most of her life, died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in the Integrated Health Services of Delta.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Ruby M. Blann was born in Molina, Colo., on Nov. 19, 1903, the daughter of Christopher Columbus Blann and Ida Filinda (Johnson) Blann. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1921 and attended college in Gunnison to obtain her degree in education.
Ruby married Chris B. Wilson who preceded her in death in Delta.
She lived in Grand Junction and Glenwood Spring prior to making her home in Delta for most of her life until the time of her death.
Ruby was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church and her special interest that added meaning and pleasure to her life was artwork.
Survivors include one brother, Arthur Blann, of Fruita; and two sisters: Ida Blankenbeker and Helen Allen, both of Grand Junction.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was also preceded in death by one sister, Crystal Benson; and one brother, Vernon Blann.
Anna Claymon

Feb. 24, 1912 - April 7, 1999
PUEBLO - Former Montrose resident, Anna Claymon, age 87, of Pueblo, died this morning, April 7, 1999.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wilson Almont Funeral Home, 1449 S. 9th St., Canon City, Colo. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Cemetery
in Canon City.
A reception will be held for friends and relatives following the interment at the St. Johns Lutheran Church, 790 Greydene St. in Canon City.

Anna Poos was born on Feb. 24, 1912 at Amherst, Colo., the daughter of William and Dora Poos.
On her birthday in 1933, she married Mike Claymon at Amherst.
Mrs. Claymon was a homemaker and child care provider. She and her husband made a life as ranchers in the Westcliffe area for 25 years before moving to Montrose where her husband was employed as a rancher and fireman for 35 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Lavada Brock and husband Roy of Pueblo; Rogene Claymon Killen and husband Al of Johnstown, Colo.; a step-daughter, Jean Johnson and husband J.K. of Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Claymon was preceded in death by her husband Mike Claymon in 1991 at Canon City; and a daughter, Nola Ornelas.
Florence G. "Flossie" Pierson

March 1, 1916 - April 5, 1999
DELTA - Longtime Olathe resident, Florence G. "Flossie" Pierson, age 83, died on Monday, April 5, 1999 at the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Memorial Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church, 110 W. 4th, Olathe.
Burial of the cremains will be held at Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary Cemetery
of Delta.
Memorial contributions, in Memory of Florence G. Pierson, may be made to the Olathe Senior Citizens, in care of the Olathe Community Center, P.O. Box 133, Olathe, Colo. 81425.
Florence G. Willis was born on March 1, 1916 at Delta, the daughter of Alfred Jams Willis and Elizabeth Caroline Hammond Willis.
On Feb. 9, 1947 she married James N. Pierson at Delta. Her husband of 52 years survives.
Prior to moving to Olathe, Mrs. Pierson and her husband lived in Uravan from 1956 until 1979, during which time she served as the committee woman for the Democratic Party. She was a member of the Jane Jeffersons Club, the VFW Auxiliary No. 784 of Montrose, and attended the Episcopal Church and Red Barn Church in Olathe.
Mrs. Pierson enjoyed cooking for her family and watching wrestling on television. She was especially looking forward to the birth of a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Pierson is survived by her husband, Jim Pierson, of the family home in Olathe; son Bob Pierson and wife Debby of Fruita; daughter Sandy Wiseman and husband Allen; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her brother, H.S. "Sy" Willis of Delta.
Mrs. Pierson was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Glen Rutherford
Enjoyed Hunting, Fishing
Feb. 5, 1923 - April 5, 1999
MONTROSE - Glen Weldon Rutherford, age 76, died early Monday morning, April 5, 1999 at his home in Montrose.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Glen Rutherford will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. from the Abundant Life Church of God on Niagara in Montrose, with Pastor Woody Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand View Cemetery
in Montrose.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7 at the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Abundant Life Church of God, Building Fund, in Memory of Glen Rutherford, P.O. Box 689, Montrose, Colo. 81402.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Glen Weldon Rutherford was born on Feb. 5, 1923 at McKinny, Texas, the son of Glenn Rutherford and Ora Belle Stevens Rutherford. He spent his childhood at Lockhart, Texas.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946.
On April 5, 1975 he married E. Carol Westwood at Boulder, Colo. The couple resided in Canon City for 18 years before moving to Montrose in 1995.
Rutherford was self-employed as a plumber and enjoyed his work very much. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a past member of the American legion.
Rutherford is survived by his wife, Carol Rutherford of the family home in Montrose; son, Charles "David" Rutherford and wife Marilyn of Whitney, Texas; step-daughter, Debbie Caldwell and husband Mark of Pueblo; grandchildren: Kenneth David Rutherford and wife Tina of Cleburne, Texas; Connie Faye Robertson and husband Rick of Cleburne, Texas; three step-grandchildren: Lisa Boden and Paul Boden; Kelley Gowdy, Heidi Leffler of Canon City; John Leffler of Canon City; and several great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include his brother, Dumont Rutherford and wife Lottie of Montrose; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Viola, step-son William Douglas Leffler, and grandson Weldon Douglas Rutherford.
Henry Deines
Retired Farmer/Rancher
May 2, 1913 - April 6, 1999
MONTROSE - Longtime Montrose resident, Henry Deines, age 85, died on Tuesday evening, April 6, 1999 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 9, at 2 p.m. from the Montrose Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
in Montrose.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions, in Memory of Henry Deines, may be made to The Children's Hospital Foundation, 1129 E. 17th Avenue, Denver, Colo. 80218, where Henry's grandson, Taylor, is currently undergoing treatment for Leukemia.
Henry Deines was born on May 2, 1913 at Briggsdale, Colo., the son of German immigrants, Henry Deines Sr. and Barbara Speaker Deines. He spent his childhood in the Briggsdale and Berthoud areas in agriculture.
In the mid 1930s, Henry moved to the Meeker and northwestern region of Colorado and worked in the timber industry. He later worked for the Colorado State Highway Department for approximately five years.
In 1948, Henry, along with his wife Irene and seven children, moved to Nunn, Colo. where he operated a dairy farm until 1956. In 1956, Henry and his family moved to Montrose and purchased the Veo ranch on Bostwick Park. He farmed on Bostwick Park until 1968, at which time the ranch was sold and is now known as the Elk Ridge Restaurant. Henry retired and purchased a home on Hillcrest Dr. and lived there until the time of his death.
He enjoyed hunting, his garden, fishing and farming. He took pride in his work and family. Henry loved his children and family gatherings. He was truly loved and respected.
Henry is survived by his children: Robert Deines and wife Chlorene, Joan Tofflemoyer and husband Dick, Bill Deines and wife Beverly, Dick Deines and wife Carol, all of Montrose; Betty Smith and husband Galen of Fruita; Pat Jones and husband Joe of Colorado Springs; and donna Belcher and husband Dick of Yorba Linda, Calif.; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three sisters: Frieda Schreiner of Edgewater, Colo; Elizabeth Hart of Sidney, Neb.; and Rachel Englemann of Lakewood, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sauer Deines in October 1963. He remarried Almettie Sanders in 1965, who died in 1982. Therefore, Henry is also survived by three step-children and several step-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, one grandson and one great-grandson.
June Cornelia Galloway Earle

MONTROSE - Former Montrose and Norwood resident, June Cornelia Galloway Earle, age 85, died of natural causes on Sunday, April 4, 1999 in the Beverly Manor Nursing Home at Blythe, Calif., after only living there 20 days.
Graveside Services were held Thursday, April 8, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand View Cemetery
of Montrose, with the Rev. Billy Merrell of the First Southern Baptist Church of Palo Verde, Calif., officiating.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 7 at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Montrose Valley Funeral Home of Montrose.
June Cornelius Galloway was born on April 30, 1913 at Norwood, Colo., the daughter of Eugene Galloway and Mabel Biddle Galloway.
At the age of 6 months, Miss Galloway lost her mother. When she was 12 years old her grandmother died, and then her father died when she was just 16. She grew to adulthood in the care of friends and relatives in the Montrose and Norwood area.
On June 13, 1937 she was married to Emory George Earle at Durango.
Mrs. Earle was a homemaker and taught elementary school for a number of years in the Montrose school system, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the Sunnyside Foursquare Church while living in Montrose, and attended the First Southern Baptist Church in Palo Verde, Calif.
She is survived by a son, Eugene Gideon Galloway of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Jeannine Forrest of Blythe, Calif.; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Earle was preceded in death by a grandson.
