Eugene Jones Carrington

MONTGOMERY, Texas - Longtime Montrose resident and businessman, Eugene Jones Carrington, died on Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in Montgomery, Texas six days after celebrating his 89th birthday.
Eugene Jones Carrington was born in Lambert, Miss. on March 11, 1910, the son of Eugene and Katie Carrington, coming to Montrose with his parents in 1922. He attended schools in Montrose and completed his education at the University of Missouri.
On Feb. 10, 1939, Mr. Carrington married Jean Siebenthaler in Kansas City, Mo.
He was associated with his father in Carrington Chevrolet Company and assumed control of the company upon the death of his father in 1945.
Mr. Carrington was adamant in his pride in Montrose serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1955, and president of Rotary in 1956. He served on the first board of directors of the Montgomery Golf Club and was a member of the board of directors for the Montrose Airport. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as Senior Warden and treasurer until the Episcopal Church left the Anglican service. He was also a life member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053 and the Masonic Lodge.
His family and his love of golf were Carrington's main interests in life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Carrington; one daughter, Susan and husband Ralph Smith, all of Montgomery, Texas; and one grandson, Darrell Smith, of Jacksonville, Fla.
Services are pending.
Dorothy Elaine Kean

DELTA - Dorothy Elaine Kean, age 63, a resident of Delta since 1993, died on Saturday, March 27, 1999, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Dorothy's life will be officiated on Wednesday, March 31, at 3 p.m. in the Aztec Cemetery
at Aztec, N.M.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Born on Oct. 31, 1935, in Flora Vista, N.M., Dorothy Elaine Hargis was the daughter of Jack C. and Nellie (Waggoner) Hargis. She graduated from Aztec High School in Aztec, N.M. in 1953.
Dorothy married John Compton in 1953. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1981, she was married in Reno, Nev. to Edwin W. Kean.
Dorothy was employed as a home healthcare worker.
She lived in Vallejo, Calif., from 1959 until 1993 when she and her husband, Edwin, moved to Delta, where she made her home until the time of her death.
Dorothy enjoyed doing arts and crafts, plants, and quilting.
Survivors grateful to have shared Dorothy's life include her husband, Edwin W. Kean, of Delta; and three daughters: Terry Gordon, Tammy Giant, and Renay Jones, all of Vallejo, Calif.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Calvin Hargis and Bill Hargis, both of Aztec, N.M.; and one sister, June Stewart, of Canon City.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Blanche Hargis, Lois Alloy, Peggy Hargis; and one son, John Compton, who died on Oct. 20, 1980.
E.Z. Minear
World War II Veteran
July 8, 1925 - March 28, 1999
DELTA - World War II veteran E.Z. Minear, age 73, a resident of Delta County for most of his life, died on Sunday, March 28, 1999, in the V.A. Hospital at Grand Junction.
E.Z. Minear was born in Kismit, Kan., on July 8, 1925, the son of Ansel Fred and Sarah Christine (Harmon) Minear. He spent some of his childhood in Kansas.
During World War II, E.Z. served his country as a corporal in the United States Army.
He married Betty Lytle on Dec. 24, 1949, in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo. In 1971 the marriage ended in divorce.
On March 27, 1983, E.Z. married Carla F. Hubbard in Delta, Colo.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a carpenter.
Special interests and hobbies that added meaning and pleasure to E.Z.'s life were camping, fishing, and his carpentry work.
Survivors include his wife, Carla F. Minear, of Delta; one son, Arnold Minear, of Wheatland, Wyo.; five daughters: Violet McGee, Lois, and Becky, all of Grand Junction; Nettie, of Alamosa; Kim Hewitt, of Palisade; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three brothers: Ralph Minear, of Casper, Wyo.; Carl Minear, of Delta; Merle Minear, of Hawthorne, Calif.; and two sisters: Edna Hubbard, of Grand Junction; and Ruth Messano, of Delta.
E.Z. was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Fred and Frank Minear.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor E.Z.'s life will be officiated by Glen Stout on Wednesday, March 31, at 10 a.m. from the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Cremation will follow the service, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Lillie Mae Ashby
Enjoyed Grandchildren/Home
March 4, 1938 - March 29, 1999
DELTA - Lillie Mae Ashby, age 61, a homemaker and resident of Delta for five and a half years, died on Monday, March 29, 1999, at her Delta home.
Lillie Mae Sanders was born in Peggs, Okla. on March 4, 1938, the daughter of Cleve Thomas and Faye Victoria (Stover) Sanders. She spent her childhood in Tahlequah, Okla.
Lillie Mae married Harold Stoddard who preceded her in death.
On Nov. 11, 1993, she married William Ashby in Depew, Okla.
Lillie lived in Depew, Okla. and moved to Delta the day after her marriage to William Ashby where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the General Assembly Church of the First Born of Delta.
Lillie enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling. She also greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and her home.
Survivors include her husband, William A. Ashby, of Delta; three stepsons: Roy Stoddard, of Depew, Okla.; Harold Dayne Stoddard, near Tulsa, Okla.; Doyle Ashby and wife Betty, of Delta; three stepdaughters: Betty Watters, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Bessie and husband Ted Trimmer, of Grand Junction; Beverly and husband Marvin Peterson, of Glade Park; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Nola and husband Jeral Rains, of Depew, Okla.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Lillie was also preceded in death by one stepson, Willie Wayne Stoddard.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service in Delta.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Lillie's life will be officiated by Ray Easter and Charles Byers on Thursday, April 1, at 11 a.m. from the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Pea Green Cemetery
near Olathe, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Aldo Robert "Al" Caponi
World War II Veteran
Dec. 29, 1915 - March 21, 1999
SAVANNA, Ill. - Aldo Robert "Al" Caponi, age 83, of Savanna, Ill., died on Sunday, March 21, 1999, in Samaritan South Skilled Care at Clinton, Iowa.
Funeral Mass in remembrance and to honor Al's life was officiated by The Rev. Tim Seigel on Wednesday, March 24, at 11 a.m. from St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna.
Interment followed the Mass in St. John's Catholic Cemetery
at Savanna, with Military Rites accorded by Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2223.
Visitation was held prior to the Mass at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Law-Jones Funeral Home of Savanna.
A memorial fund has been established in Al's name.
Aldo Robert Caponi was born on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1915, in Henryetta, Okla., the son of John and Mary Caponi. Al graduated from Harrison High School in Chicago, Ill. with the class of 1934.
On Oct. 12, 1941, Al was married in Chicago, Ill., to Rose Ann Vaccaro. The couple were privileged to share 57 years of marriage.
Al served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1942 to 1945, during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. In 1950, Al and Rose moved to Savanna, Ill.
Al worked as a material handler for Alcoa Aluminum Company in Bettendorf, Iowa for 28 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church of Savanna; the Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2223, the Savanna American Legion Post No. 148; and the Savanna Moose Lodge No. 1095.
Al enjoyed golfing, bowling, and especially time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Caponi; one daughter, Connie Chadwick and Steve Wilkins; one granddaughter, Bobbie and husband Kelly Straight, all of Savanna; and one great-granddaughter, Terra Jo Straight.
Other family survivors include one sister, Alma Huntington, of Corona, Calif.; and two brothers: Charles Capone and wife Anne; and Mike Serra and wife Gwen, all of Montrose.
Al was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Marjorie E. "Marge" deRegnier
Retired Communication Supervisor
Aug. 7, 1922 - March 30, 1999
MONTROSE - Marjorie E. "Marge" deRegnier, age 76, a resident of Montrose since January of 1998, died early Tuesday morning, March 30, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
Marjorie E. O'Leary was born in Mason City, Iowa on Aug. 7, 1922, the daughter of James and Lois (Swain) O'Leary. She spent her childhood, graduated from high school in 1942, and grew to adulthood in Des Moines, Iowa.
Marge and Don deRegnier were married on March 20, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a communication supervisor for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas.
In 1984, Marge and Don moved from Texas to Durango, Colo. In 1995 they returned to Texas and then moved from Texas to Montrose in January of 1998, where Marge made her home until the time of her death.
Marge was a member of the Methodist church.
She was a great bread baker and enjoyed doing hand crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Don deRegnier, of Montrose; one son, Don deRegnier II and wife Sherie, of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren: Don deRegnier III and Kelli deRegnier, of Houston, Texas.
Other family survivors include two brothers: James O'Leary and wife Barbara, of Montana; and Richard O'Leary, of Alaska.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Norman.
Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Marge's life will be officiated on Monday, April 5, south of Attica, Iowa in the Indiana Chapel Cemetery
in Marion County, Iowa.
Local arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Roy William Farr
World War II Veteran
March 29, 1914 - March 29, 1999
DELTA - Roy William Farr, who moved to Colorado when he was 17 years old, died on his 85th birthday, March 29, 1999, in Delta. Roy was a World War II veteran and a laborer in ranching and mining.
Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Roy's life will be officiated by Pastor Frank Dorrington on Friday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in the Delta City Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Born on March 29, 1914, in Coffeewood, Minn., Roy William Farr was the son of William R. and Anna M. (Volkmann) Pfarr. He spent his childhood in Minnesota, lived a short time in Nebraska, and moved to Colorado at the age of 17 where he spent all of his adult life.
Roy married Annabell R. Runyan on April 6, 1940, in Boulder, Colo. Annabell preceded Roy in death on April 5, 1998 in Delta.
During World War II, Roy served his country from June 12, 1942 until Nov. 1, 1945 in the United States Army.
Prior to his retirement, Roy worked as a laborer in ranching and mining.
He is survived by five brothers, three sisters, and many, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Roy was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Dorothy Lucille Mehder

HOTCHKISS - Dorothy Lucille Mehder, a retired bookkeeper and resident of Hotchkiss for seven years, died on Monday, March 29, 1999, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital 15 days after celebrating her 76th birthday.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Dorothy's life will be officiated by Paul Rogers, Chris Boyd, and Stan Perisho on Thursday, April 1, at 3 p.m. from Friends Church in Crawford. The service will conclude at the church.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Dorothy Lucille Rogers, the daughter of Albert L. and Lydia (Albercht) Rogers, was born on March 14, 1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood.
Dorothy married Alex Mehder on Dec. 7, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. Their union was blessed with one son and one daughter. Dorothy and Alex were privileged to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary last year in December.
Dorothy was a member of Friends Church of Crawford. She loved participating at church, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School classes before her illness. She also enjoyed weaving.
Survivors grateful to have shared Dorothy's life include her husband, Alex Mehder, of Hotchkiss; one son, David Mehder; one daughter, Mica Row, both of Montrose; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two stepbrothers: David Rogers and Paul Rogers; and one sister, Edith Swanson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
