Keith Roger Mitchell

NUCLA - Keith Roger Mitchell, of Nucla, died on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the age of 63.
Born on Nov. 16, 1935, in Nucla, Colo., in the big house south of the library, with Dr. Keathing delivering him, Keith Roger Mitchell was one of 10 children born to Bessie and Lyle Mitchell.
He went to school in Nucla, attended a couple of years of school in Telluride, and finished his education in Jenks, Okla.
In 1954, Mr. Mitchell enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, working in the Damage Control Unit.
After his discharge, Mr. Mitchell came back to Nucla for a while.
He was employed as a driller with the Corp of Engineers for 30 years, with most of that time spent in Alaska.
Mr. Mitchell married Mila Dawe on Nov. 17, 1990, in Anchorage, Alaska. The couple were blessed with two children.
He retired from the Corp of Engineers in 1991 and moved his family back to Nucla, where they purchased the Hill Top Store, Freddies Trailer Park, and West Vancorum.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Mitchell's life include his wife, Mila Mitchell; one son, Freddie Mitchell; and one daughter, Melodee and husband Loran Taylor, all of Nucla.
He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Bill Mitchell, of Toole, Utah; Carl Mitchell, of Nucla; and two sisters: Elva Ancher Ayers, of Nucla; and Maurine Caslor, of Naturita.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Wayne, Clyde, Bud, Glen; and one sister, Ima.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Mitchell's life were officiated by The Rev. Michael Doehrman, the Parish Director of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Telluride, on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. from the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church of Nucla. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation preceded the service, with inurnment to be held at a later date in the Nucla Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Hale & Gerken Funeral Home of Naturita.

Katherine H. "Kay" Hartter

ECKERT - Retired Registered Nurse, Katherine H. "Kay" Hartter, age 82, of Eckert, a resident of the Cedaredge area for 10 years, died Sunday evening, Jan. 18, 1999, in Horizons Health Care Center at Eckert.
Katherine H. was born on Dec. 22, 1916, in Fredonia, Kan. She continued her education until she became a Registered Nurse.
She lived in Boulder; Blue Springs, Mo.; and Kankakee, Ill., before making her home in the Cedaredge area for 10 years until the time of her death.
Ms. Hartter was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cedaredge, the Cedaredge Friends of the Public Library, and belonged to the Cedaredge Historical Society.
She loved and greatly enjoyed crocheting slippers for her nursing home friends and teaching remedial reading.
Survivors grateful to have shared Ms. Hartter's life include two sons: Gordon Hartter, of Cedaredge; William Hartter, of Crawford; and three daughters: Susan B. Albertson, of Longmont; Linda Payne, of Brunswick, Ga.; and Kathy Cinquanta, of Riceville, Tenn.
She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Leora Marker, of Lee's Summit, Mo.
Ms. Hartter was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Hubbell, of Sebring, Fla.
Cremation has taken place, with no services planned.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.

Wilma "Hazel" Dillingham

ECKERT - Former longtime Arvada resident, Wilma "Hazel" Dillingham, age 87, a resident of Eckert for three and a half years, died on Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Wilma Hazel Blevins, the daughter of William Sherman and Florence May (Shadoan) Blevins, was born on May 26, 1911, in Cyril, Okla. She received her high school education in Holton, Kan.
She was married in Denver, Colo., in 1980 to Leonard O. Dillingham, who preceded her in death in October of 1984 in Denver. She was previously married to Walter F. Scheve and William H. Cress, who both preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dillingham was a homemaker and also worked as a dietician for the Jefferson County Schools and the Lutheran Medical Center.
She made her home in Arvada for 41 years prior to moving to Eckert three and a half years ago where she remained until the time of her death.
Mrs. Dillingham was a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Arvada and especially enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Dillingham's life include one son, William "Gene" Scheve, of Eckert; and two daughters: Bonnie Duran, of Cedaredge; and Dorris Mae Roberts, of Arvada.
She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and the great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and three husbands, Mrs. Dillingham was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel in Wheat Ridge.
Immediately following visitation, beginning at 11 a.m., Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Dillingham's life will be officiated in the chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery
at Wheat Ridge, with local arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.

Helen Elizabeth Woods

EAGLE - Helen Elizabeth Woods Dennison, a resident of Eagle, Colo. for the last 30 years, died on Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a rest home in Carbondale at the age of 84.
Helen Elizabeth Woods was born on Dec. 19, 1915, in Montrose, Colo., the daughter of John and Marie Agnes (O'Connor) Woods. She attended schools in the Montrose area and then moved to Telluride, Colo., where she was employed as a waitress and bartender for many years. During World War II, she moved to Leadville, Colo., where she was a military guard at Climax with the 10th Mountain Division.
She then moved to Grand Junction where she met and married her husband Robert Dennison. The couple resided in the Vail area where she managed a dry cleaning establishment until her retirement.
Mrs. Dennison was a member of the Catholic Church of Eagle.
She found much pleasure and enjoyment doing needlework and won many blue ribbons at the Eagle County Fair.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Dennison's life include her husband, Robert Dennison, of Eagle; one sister, Francis McCandless, of Grand Junction; one brother, Robert Woods and wife Vesta, of Montrose; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dennison was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Joseph Woods and Arthur Woods.
Cremation has taken place with a Memorial Service in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Dennison's life to be held at a later date.
Robert E. "Bob" Summer
Loved the Mountains/Outdoors

PUEBLO - Robert E. "Bob" Summer was born on Dec. 7, 1909, in Montrose, Colo. He died on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Pueblo at the age of 89, where he had made his home since 1984.
While growing up in Montrose, Mr. Summer developed a love for the mountains and outdoors.
He was a member of the Prairie Avenue Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Telluride.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Summer's life include his wife, Lenora Summer, of Pueblo; and one son, Robert Summer and wife Vera, of Gunnison.
He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren and the great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Summer is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Everett Summer; another brother, Paul Summer; one sister, Mildred Elam; and one daughter, Bonnie Henkins.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28, from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Crippin Funeral Home at Montrose.
Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Summer's life will be officiated by The Rev. Daniel Searcy on Friday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Grand View Cemetery
at Montrose.
Local arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Donald E. States
CEDAREDGE - Donald E. States, age 54, of Cedaredge, a Cedaredge school bus driver who along with his wife, Cheryl, own Ceramic E'States, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl States, of Cedaredge; three stepsons; one granddaughter, one grandson, all of Washington State; one sister, of Puyallup, Wash.; and one brother, of Wichita, Kan.
A gathering in remembrance and to honor Mr. States' life has been set for Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Apple Shed in Cedaredge.
Cremation has taken place, with inurnment to be held in the Fort Logan National Cemetery
at Denver.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Margaret M. Langford
DELTA - Margaret M. Langford, age 79, a homemaker and resident of Delta for 32 years, died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, in her Delta home.
Margaret M. Mear, the daughter of John and Lulu Douglas Weddle Mear, was born on Jan. 10, 1920, in Buena Vista, Colo., where she spent her childhood, graduated from the Buena Vista High School in 1938, and grew to adulthood.
She was married on Aug. 12, 1938, in Buena Vista, Colo., to Everett T. Langford, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1994, in Fruita, Colo.
In 1967, the Langfords moved from Buena Vista to Delta where Mrs. Langford made her home for 32 years until the time of her death.
Mrs. Langford was a member of the Rock Wranglers Club of Delta and greatly enjoyed her hobbies and special interests of rock hounding, arrowhead hunting, and fishing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Langford's life include one son, James E. Langford, of Grand Junction; two daughters: Janet Elaine Turner and Judith Anne Spiker, both of Delta; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Harvey Alan Mear, of Georgia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Langford was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Nadine Elliot.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Langford's life will be officiated by Lawrence Goody on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. from the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Inurnment of the cremains will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Julia Alice Hicks
MONTROSE - Julia Alice Hicks, age 81, of Montrose, died Friday morning, Jan. 29, 1999, in The Spring Creek Chalet at Montrose.
Julia Alice Shellabager was born in Saguache, Colo., on Oct. 13, 1917, the daughter of Ralph and Blanche Shellabager.
She attended Colorado State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1939. She taught in the Home Ec Department at Colorado State University and was a member of Kappa Theta Sorority.
On Oct. 25, 1941, Miss Shellabager was married in Tucson, Ariz., to Guy William Hicks. He was a member of the School of Veterinary Medicine, class of 1951.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband in April of 1994.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Hicks' life include one son, Thomas Howard Hicks; and three grandchildren: Michael, Valerie and Tricia Hicks, all of Montrose.
Other family survivors include one sister, Mrs. Russell Britton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Hicks' request, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Colorado in Denver.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
William H. Eades

DENVER - William H. Eades was born in Olathe, Colo., on Nov. 1, 1935, the son of Harrison William and Della (Dickerson) Eades. He died after a short illness on Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Denver at the age of 63.
After graduating from the Olathe High School, where he played baseball and basketball and was named an All-State player in basketball, Mr. Eades attended the University of Utah.
He married Jeanine Anders on June 14, 1954, in Olathe, Colo.
During his lifetime, Mr. Eades held several car sales managements positions and was an independent business owner throughout Wyoming, Colorado, and Nevada.
Being a resident of Wyoming for 24 years, Mr. Eades participated in many community activities around the state. One of his favorites was the Punt, Pass and Kick Program he helped organize in Casper, Wyo., in the 1970s.
He loved and enjoyed fishing and golfing as well as being an avid Wyoming Cowboys and Denver Broncos fan.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Eades' life include two sons: William "Rocky" Eades, Dennis Eades; two daughters: Debbie Forsberg and Jerri Durdahl, all of Casper, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Stacy Eades, of Montrose; and three sisters: Eunice Thompson, of Delta; Pauline Cooper, of Ontario, Calif.; and Linda Ellis, of Orlando, Fla.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Eades was also preceded in death by one grandson, 9-year-old Jason Eades; and two sisters: Louise Cooper and Betty Smith.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Eades' life will be officiated by Pastor Ed Cingoranelli, of Casper Open Bible, on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 1:30 p.m. from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Cremation has taken place, with inurnment to be held in the Highland Cemetery.

Fern Elizabeth Brandenburg

RALSTON, Okla. - Born on Aug. 4, 1918, in Ralston, Okla., Fern Elizabeth Freeman was the daughter of Irwin and Grace (Lawson) Freeman. She died on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at her home in Ralston, Okla., at the age of 80.
On Sept. 27, 1937, she married Willard Brandenburg in Ouray, Colo. The couple were blessed with two sons and two daughters and were privileged to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary last year in September.
In 1956, the Brandenburgs moved to Ralston where Mrs. Brandenburg made her home until the time of her death.
She owned and operated an antique shop in Ralston from 1972 until 1982 and was well known for her hospitality, cooking and feeding everyone, whether they were hungry or not.
Mrs. Brandenburg was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the First Born.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Brandenburg's life include her husband, Willard Brandenburg, of Ralston, Okla.; two sons: Bill Brandenburg, of Edmond, Okla.; Wendell Brandenburg, of McAlester, Okla.; and two daughters: Glenda Williams, of Collinsville, Okla.; and Iris Brandenburg, of Tulsa, Okla.
She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 16 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Forrest Freeman, of Montrose; two sisters: Ethel Schlegel, of Vancouver, Wash.; Mona Byyny, of Lakewood, Calif.; as well as other more distant relatives and friends.
Mrs. Brandenburg was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson, Randall Wayne Drymon.
Graveside Rites for Mrs. Brandenburg were officiated by Doyle Combs and Butch Crowley on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Riverside Cemetery
at Ralston, Okla.
