Anne Adams

DELTA - Anne Adams, age 95, a retired registered nurse and resident of Delta since 1984, died on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in the Integrated Health Services of Delta.
Anne Hoium, the daughter of Erick and Anna (Larimore) Hoium, was born on Oct. 13, 1903, in Marietta, Minn., where she spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. She continued to pursue her education and after four years graduated from the nursing school in Minneapolis, Minn.
Miss Hoium married Charles Fancher, with the marriage ending in divorce in 1946.
In 1950, she married Alva Ray Adams in Durango, Colo. Mr. Adams preceded his wife in death in 1970.
Mrs. Adams lived and worked as the head nurse in Telluride during World War II. She also lived in Cory before making her home in Delta from 1984 until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Methodist Church of Delta and belonged to the Telluride Rebekah Lodge for many years.
Mrs. Adams had many special interests and hobbies she thoroughly enjoyed during her lifetime, including: Knitting, crocheting, traveling, reading, and playing pinochle.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Adams' life include two sons: Charles Fancher, of Delta; Raymond Fancher, of Cory; one daughter, Charlene Hiner, of DeBeque; and four stepchildren.
She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering in remembrance of Mrs. Adams will be held.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.

Pearl Elizabeth Williamson Erikson
Seed Company Pollinator

DELTA - Pearl Elizabeth Williamson Erikson, a resident of Delta for four years, died on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in the Delta House at the age of 85. Mrs. Erikson worked as a pollinator for a seed company.
Born on Aug. 21, 1913, in Olathe, Colo., Pearl Elizabeth Williamson was the daughter of Fred Ernest and Nina Louise (Dunham) Williamson. She spent her childhood in the Crawford and Read areas and attended high school in Olathe and Delta schools.
She lived in Lebanon, Ore., then moved back to Read, Colo., where she remained until 1931.
On Nov. 11, 1931, Miss Williamson was married in Delta, Colo., to Erik Brooke Erikson, who preceded her in death on March 23, 1983.
She lived in Somerset and then moved to Paonia where she resided until 1995 when she moved to Delta, making her home there until the time of her death.
Mrs. Erikson found great pleasure in sight-seeing, crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Erikson's life include one son, Erikson Victor Erikson and wife Patricia "Tricia", of Delta; and two daughters: June Elizabeth and husband Dale Wells, of Englewood; and Beverly Eline Gatchis, of Denver.
She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Ruby Freshour, of Grand Junction; as well as several nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Erik B. Erikson; Mrs. Erikson was also preceded in death by two sisters: Fern and Frankie; and two brothers: Ralph and Ernest.
At Mrs. Erikson's request no services will be held.
Interment will be held in the Garden of Memories Cemetery
at Crawford, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Adelaide A. Stejskal
Retired Delaney's File Clerk

DELTA - Former longtime Oklahoma City, Okla., resident Adelaide A. Stejskal, age 90, of Delta, died on Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in the Delta Care Center. Mrs. Stejskal was a former volunteer for the Pink Ladies of the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Adelaide A. Blecha was born in Arcadia, Okla., on Nov. 14, 1908, the daughter of Joseph K. and Albina (Svejskovsky) Blecha.
She spent her early years in Oklahoma and then moved to Routt County, Colo., prior to moving back to Oklahoma City.
Miss Blecha married Roy Stejskal. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Mrs. Stejskal lived in Oklahoma City, Okla., for 18 years where she was employed as a file clerk for Delaney's, a wholesale appliance dealership. She then moved from Oklahoma to Delta where she made her home the remainder of her lifetime until the time of her death.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Delta.
Mrs. Stejskal loved to do patchwork and enjoyed making many lap robes for the nursing home residents when she was able.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Stejskal's life include one daughter, Florencie and husband Bob LeMaster, of Delta; one grandson, Michael LeMaster and wife Marsha, also of Delta; one granddaughter, Sandi and husband Kenneth Marchbanks, of Gustavus, Alaska; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Glen Blecha, of Delta; Otto Blecha, of Canon City; and one sister, Agnes Walker, of Artesia, N.M.
Mrs. Stejskal was preceded in death by her parents, a stepmother, and one brother.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Stejskal's life will be officiated by Pastor Howard Cowan on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. from the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Erwin V. Smith
Family-Oriented Man

DELTA - Erwin V. Smith, age 88, a resident of Delta since 1967, formerly of Gunnison and Telluride, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 23, 1999, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith, a miner, a ranch foreman, a farmer and rancher, and carpenter, was a devoted and selfless family-oriented man who stressed the need for education and good works by example to his family and to others.
Erwin V. Smith, the son of Joseph William and Arta Belle (Little) Smith, was born on Dec. 9, 1910, in Gunnison, Colo., where he spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood.
At the age of 25, Mr. Erwin left Gunnison and moved to Telluride where he began his mining profession. After spending six years in Telluride he moved to Butte, Mont., in 1941 and worked for the Anaconda Mining Co.
On April 24, 1942, he married Rose Little in Helena, Mont. The couple were blessed with one son and three daughters and were privileged to celebrate 56 years of marriage last year in April.
In 1944, the Smiths moved back to Gunnison and Mr. Smith was employed as ranch foreman for Dan Thornton until he and his family moved to McCook, Neb., to join his father-in-law in the farm and ranch business near McCook.
Mr. Smith enjoyed the agriculture business and built the farm into a successful enterprise before returning to Western Colorado in 1967 to live in Delta, where he made his home the remainder of his lifetime until the time of his death. He worked in residential construction before devoting his time to the Mt. Spores Instrument Company in Delta where he constructed the containers in which the delicate instruments were shipped worldwide. He enjoyed remaining active and working and did not retire until recently.
Mr. Smith loved and enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, collecting rocks, gardening, sports especially baseball and football and cutting wood in the summer and fall. He sold wood commercially to accounts in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley for a number of years.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Smith's life include his wife, Rose Smith, of Delta; one son, Joe E. Smith and wife Claranel, of Des Moines, Iowa; and three daughters: Alice Roberta Eames, of Burley, Idaho; Bobbie Marie and husband Robert Stever, of Ely, Nev.; and Sylvia Viola Smith, of Denver.
He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and the great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Hugh Carl Smith, of Canon City; and one sister, Doris Lanphier, of Naples, Fla.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Smith's life were officiated on Monday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. from the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel. The service concluded at the chapel.
Cremation followed the service, with inurnment of the cremains to be held in the Delta City Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Charles J. Silva
A Miner and Businessman

MONTROSE - A miner and businessman, Charles J. Silva, age 90, a resident of Montrose since 1975, died Monday morning, Jan. 18, 1999, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Charles J. Silva was born on Dec. 13, 1908, in Delagua, Colo., a coal town near Trinidad in Las Animas County, the son of John and Mary (Oberto) Silva. From the coal mining town, the family moved to Canon City, Colo., where Charles attended school. The family had a five-acre farm where they grew fruits and vegetables. In 1926, they sold the farm and moved to Telluride when Charles was 18 years old.
Mr. Silva begin working part-time for a soda fountain and then was employed with the Liberty Bell Mine & Mill. He later worked as a mechanic and welder with the Telluride Mines.
Paul Studebaker and Mr. Silva went into business and started the "S & S" in Telluride. Mr. Silva also worked for the Idarado Mining Company for a short time.
In 1955, he moved to Grand Junction and later worked for Atomic Energy until his retirement in 1975. He then moved to Montrose where he made his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Silva was a member of the Telluride Elks Lodge for 70 years and was a lifetime member of the Telluride Fire Department.
His loves and joys in life were fishing and gardening.
Mr. Silva is survived by three nephews: John and Ted Ackerman, of Denver; and William Studebaker, of Granger, Ind.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Silva's life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lundberg on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Family inurnment will be held at a later date in Canon City, Colo.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Marie L. Poulos
Bookkeeper and Secretary

LAKEWOOD - Marie L. Rametti Poulos, age 81, a retired bookkeeper and secretary, of Lakewood, died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in the Swedish Medical Center at Englewood.
Marie L. Rametti was born in Montrose, Colo., on Dec. 17, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bertorello) Rametti. She was a graduate of the Paonia High School and continued her education at a business school in Grand Junction, where she received her certificate in business and pursued a career as a bookkeeper and secretary for many years. She was well known in the business community.
On May 27, 1948, she was joined in marriage to James F. "Jim" Poulos in Somerset, Colo. The couple lived in various areas of Arizona and Oregon due to Mr. Poulos' career in mining exploration, before establishing their home in Grand Junction. In 1968, they moved to Golden, Colo., to pursue their endeavors in the mining indusry.
Mrs. Poulos and her husband were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with many friends and family in attendance on May 30, 1998.
Mrs. Poulos' philosophy of life was "You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear."
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Poulos' life include her husband, James F. "Jim" Poulos, of Lakewood; and the couple's twin sons: John J. Poulos, of Rapid City, S.D.; Joseph G. Poulos and wife Adrian, of Golden; as well as loving nieces, a nephew, brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Poulos' life will be officiated on Friday, Jan. 22, at 11:30 a.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Laren D. "Larry" Morrill
Retired Civil Engineer

ARVADA - Longtime Arvada resident, Laren D. "Larry" Morrill, age 84, who served as the county surveyor of Delta for several years and was president and majority stockholder of Morcan Engineering Company of Delta from 1947 to 1959, died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in his home at Arvada.
Laren D. Morrill was born on Sept. 6, 1914, in Kimberly, Idaho.
He married Lila Groman and they were later divorced.
Mr. Morrill received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1936 from the Utah State University at Logan, Utah. In 1942, he received his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
In 1972, Mr. Morrill married Ruth F. Decker.
He practiced engineering in Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado. Mr. Morrill retired in 1985 as the Deputy Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico and Colorado; a Registered Land Surveyor in Colorado; a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Colorado Society of Engineers, and the American Water Works Association.
Mr. Morrill was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. No. 1235 and the Mason's Lodge No. 62. In 1991 he published "My Heritage," a history of his ancestors, the culmination of 10 years of research.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Morrill's life include his wife, Ruth Morrill, of Arvada; one son, Larry R. Morrill and wife Judi, of Menlo Park, Calif.; one daughter, Rita Morrill, of Littleton; one grandson, David Morrill, of Denver; and one granddaughter, Diana Morrill, of Fresno, Calif.
He is also survived by one stepdaughter, Janet and husband Clark Otterness, of Draper, Utah; two stepsons: Tim Decker and wife Pat, of Montrose; Gary Decker and wife Wendy, of Corvallis, Mont.; seven stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Garth Morrill and wife Becky, of Kimberly, Idaho; and one sister, Allez Ashmead, of Kaysville, Utah.
Mr. Morrill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
At Mr. Morrill's request, no services will be held.
