C. Nadine Saraff

MONTROSE - C. Nadine Saraff, age 90, a resident of Montrose since 1994, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 30, 1998, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
C. Nadine Brandenburg, the daughter of Francis E. and Lottie J. (Smith) Brandenburg, was born on Oct. 18, 1908, in Joplin, Mo., where she spent her childhood, graduated from the Joplin High School, and grew to adulthood.
Miss Bradenburg married Albert Z. Saraff on April 8, 1927, in Wichita Falls, Texas. The couple were blessed with one son and two daughters.
The Saraffs lived in Houston, Texas, and then moved to Tulsa, Okla., where Mr. Saraff preceded his wife in death on July 8, 1986.
Mrs. Saraff was a buyer for Sears & Roebuck Company for many years.
In 1994, she moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Montrose where she made her home until the time of her death.
Mrs. Saraff especially enjoyed Colorado, the ranch, walking, cooking, and dune buggy rides. Her family and grandchildren were very special to her.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Saraff's life include one son, Philip B. Saraff, of Montrose; two daughters: Charlotte and husband Thomas Vowell, of Montrose; Mercedes Lomont, of Portland, Ore.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Saraff's life is being planned for a later date.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
David Craig Roberts
Roberts Enterprise Owner

PAONIA David Craig Roberts, age 53, retired Roberts Enterprise owner and a resident of Paonia since 1955, died on Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
David Craig Roberts, the son of John Oliver and Lucille J. (Teser) Roberts, was born on Oct. 12, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa, where he spent his childhood until 1955 when he moved to Paonia. He attended the Paonia High School, grew to adulthood, and made his home in Paonia from 1955 until the time of his death.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Paonia, the American Legion, and a past member of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807, B.P.O.E.
Mr. Roberts greatest delight in life was playing with his granddaughters. He also greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and four-wheeling.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Roberts' life include one son, Shawn Roberts and fiancee Loriza Jensen, of Paonia; one daughter, Nicole and husband Sam Beattie, of Paonia; and four grandchildren: Kaysha, Shanea, Corissa, and Taylor.
Other family survivors include his mother, Lucille J. Roberts; one brother, Mark Roberts and wife Sheri, all of Paonia; and two sisters: Annette and husband Harold Burch, of Paonia; and Suzette and husband Bill Overman, of Austin.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his father, John Oliver Roberts.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 26, from 9:15 a.m. until service time, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia.
Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance and to honor Mr. Roberts' life will be officiated by The Rev. Mike Smith on Saturday, Dec. 26, at 10 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia.
Rite of Committal will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Cody Gene Rhoades

WYLIE, Texas - Cody Gene Rhoades, age 18, of Wylie, Texas, died on Friday, Dec. 18, 1998.
Cody Gene Rhoades was born on March 3, 1980, in Montrose, Colo., the son of Phil and Tamara (Dudley) Rhoades.
Cody was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Survivors grateful to have shared Cody's 18 years life include his parents, Chris and Tamara Hovde, of Wylie, Texas; his father, Phil Rhoades, of Delta; one sister, Nichole Hovde, of Plano, Texas; and one brother, Joshua Hovde, of Wylie, Texas.
Other family survivors include his grandparents: Mick and Beverly Hovde, of Montrose; Gene and Phyllis Rhoades, of Delta; grandmothers: Faye Dudley, of Montrose; Lula Dudley, of Vernal, Utah; Pearl Chivers, of Vernal, Utah; and uncles and aunts: Harold Ray and Shauna Dudley, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Craig and Roxie Hovde and family, of Nevada, Texas; and Steve and Jody Hovde and family, of Montrose.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather, Larry Dudley; and one sister, Kimmie Rhoades.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Cody's life were officiated by Kelly O'Conner on Monday, Dec. 21, in McKinney, Texas.
Interment will be held in the Avalon Cemetery

Clark F. Niles
Commercial Engineer

CEDAREDGE - A Cedaredge resident for 21 years, Clark F. Niles, age 77, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service Inc. of Delta.

Clark F. Niles, the son of Earl R. and Ada Cleo (Fenstermacher) Niles, was born on April 13, 1921 in Price, Utah. He spent his childhood, until age 12, in Price and moved with his family to Montrose, graduating from Montrose County High School with the class of 1939. He continued to pursue his education at Purdue University.
Mr. Niles spent six years in the Navy as an Electrician Mate 1st Class.
On Dec. 16, 1945, he married his wife Mardell in Montrose, Colo. The couple was privileged to share 53 years of marriage this year.
Mr. Niles was a commercial engineer for Mountain Bell Telephone.
Over his lifetime, he was also a resident of Wyoming (Casper/Cheyenne area) and spent the last 21 years in Cedaredge.
Survivors grateful to have shared his life include his wife Mardell Niles of Cedaredge; and two sisters, Harriet Pryor of North Hills, Calif., and Donna Zaelke of Fillmore, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Niles was a member of the Protestant faith. He also was a member of Grand Mesa V.F.W. Post No. 9221; Delta Elks Lodge No. 1235; and the Pioneer Telephone Company.
He loved to travel, spending winters in southern California and Arizona, fishing and woodcarving.
Hilda Opthelia Erickson
Minerich
Mother of 12 Children

RICHMOND, Ky. - Former longtime North Fork Valley homemaker, Hilda Opthelia Erickson Minerich, age 96, of Richmond, Ky., died on Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in the Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond, Ky.
Born on March 17, 1902, in Summet County, Kokomo, Colo., Hilda Opthelia Erickson was the daughter of Erick Evon and Elizabeth Christine (Howell) Erickson. She spent her childhood in Somerset and Bowie, Colo., and attended the Paonia High School.
Miss Erickson was married on Dec. 4, 1920, in Delta, Colo., to John Evon Minerich. The couple were blessed with 12 children.
Shortly after their marriage, the Minerichs lived for two years in Milwaukee, Wis., before establishing their home in the North Fork Valley area, Somerset and Lamborn Mesa, where they remained for the next 52 years. Mr. Minerich worked in the coal mines in the surrounding areas, and the couple enjoyed their little farm up to the time of Mr. Minerich's death in May of 1973.
Following her husband's death, Mrs. Minerich remained on the farm for the next 13 years. During that time she traveled with her children, seeing a lot of beautiful countryside.
Mrs. Minerich left the North Fork Valley and lived the next 12 years in Arizona, and then moved to Richmond, Ky., where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Richmond, Ky.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Minerich's life include her 12 children: Elma Elizabeth Wiening and Hilda Marie Bouwens, both of Paonia; Joan Christine Lemon, of Carbon City, Utah; John Edward Minerich, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; Erick Emanuel Minerich, of Cedaredge; James Cecil Minerich, of Paonia; Franklin Dale Minerich, of Richmond, Ky.; Paul Willard Minerich, of Paonia; Stephen Keith Minerich, of Richmond, Ky.; Thera Ann Sanburg, of Montrose; Robert Wayne Minerich, of Richmond, Ky.; and Daniel Patrick Minerich, of Paonia.
She was the proud grandmother of 146 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Emanuel Erickson, of Fairview, Utah; and two sisters: Anna Teasley, of Glasco, Kan.; and Ida Marie Erickson, of Chicago, Ill.
In addition to her parents and husband, John Evon Minerich, Mrs. Minerich was also preceded in death by one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: Erick Erickson and James Erickson; and one sister, Thelma McConnel.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Minerich's life will be officiated by Bishop Randall Fizer on Saturday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m. from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Paonia.
Interment will follow the service in the Crawford Cemetery
at Crawford, Colo., with local arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. and out-of-state arrangements being handled by Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home of Richmond, Ky.
Janice Marie Miller

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Janice Marie Miller was born in Craig, Colo., on Feb. 20, 1944, the daughter of Irby and Ival Miller, who now reside in Montrose. She died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at the age of 54 after a long bout with cancer in the Kaiser Hospital at Honolulu, Hawaii.
Ms. Miller and her son, Ronald Tubbs, moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1973, and after living there for about two years, moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1975, where Ms. Miller made her home until the time of her death.
Survivors grateful to have shared Ms. Miller's life include two sons: Ronald "Ron" Tubbs, of Hawaii; Rick Medlen, of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Kimberly Neufeld, of Grand Junction; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her parents, Irby and Ival Miller, of Montrose; two sisters: Carole Altes and Marjie Kurtz, also of Montrose; and one brother, Roger Miller, of Delta.
Ms. Miller was an avid reader and had written several books which were published by Ballentine Press, P.C. Nelson, and Moody Press in the last 20 years.
Although she is home with the Lord, Ms. Miller will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Omadell Martin
Wife, Mother, Grandmother

HOTCHKISS - Omadell Martin, age 88, a homemaker and resident of Hotchkiss for 75 years, died on Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in the Delta Care Center.
Omadell Bryant, the daughter of Madison Monroe and Emma A. (Miller) Bryant, was born on May 5, 1910, in Byers, Colo. She spent her childhood in Byers and Excelsior Springs, Mo.
She moved to Hotchkiss in 1923 where she made her home for 75 years until the time of her death.
Miss Bryant married Merral O. Martin on July 19, 1928, in Hotchkiss, Colo. Mr. Martin preceded his wife in death on Jan. 1, 1989, in Paonia.
Mrs. Martin was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Hotchkiss and had belonged to the Harmony Club since 1959.
She loved and enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, crocheting, and quilting.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Martin's life include three daughters: Edith L. Watson, of Delta; Nina M. and husband Les Haller, of Grand Junction; and Gladys L. and husband Bill Miller, of Fort Collins.
She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Marvin Bryant, of Littleton; and two sisters: Ellen Thompson, of Osborne, Kan.; and Mary Hollembeak, of Hotchkiss.
In addition to her parents and husband, Merral O. Martin, Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Bryant; and one grandson, Steven Joel Criswell.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Martin's life will be officiated by Pastor Delbert Golike on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.
Interment will follow the service in the Riverside Cemetery
at Hotchkiss, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Jesse W. Marchbanks
Mylars Auto Refinishing Retiree

MONTROSE - Jesse W. Marchbanks was born on Feb. 9, 1917, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Jerry and Mabel (Thoman) Marchbanks. He died Wednesday morning, Dec. 30, 1998, in the Family Health West Nursing Home at Fruita at the age of 81.
Mr. Marchbanks moved with his family from Kansas to Delta when he was a baby. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Delta.
He served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Marchbanks married Nina Hotchkiss on April 15, 1940, in Delta, Colo. The couple were blessed with a son and a daughter and were privileged to share 48 years of marriage this year in April.
In 1948, the Marchbanks family moved from Ridgway to Montrose where Mr. Marchbanks made his home until the time of his death.
He was an auto-body man and was employed with Mylars Automotive Refinishing in Montrose prior to his retirement years ago. Mr. Marchbanks greatly enjoyed working on automotive motors for races and the actual racing itself. He absolutely loved the outdoors, fishing, and boating.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Marchbanks' life include his wife, Nina Marchbanks, of Montrose; one son, Jerry Marchbanks and wife Kathy, of Utah; one daughter, Sherlyn Carles, of Montrose; eight grandchildren which includes a grandson, Tim Marchbanks and wife Tara, of Montrose; and five great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Ralph Marchbanks, of Montrose; Hubert Marchbanks, of Montana; and one sister, Irene Carver, of Montrose.
Mr. Marchbanks was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother, and one sister.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Marchbanks' life will be officiated on Saturday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. from the Crippin Funeral home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Olathe Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
