ECKERT Cattle rancher, Kermit Ivan Osborn, age 79, died on Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in his Eckert home.
Kermit Ivan Osborn, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Osborn, was born on June 6, 1919, in Craig, Colo. He was raised on a ranch five miles southeast of Hamilton, Colo., where he received his education, grew to adulthood, and made his home for 58 years, from 1919 until 1977.
Mr. Osborn served his country at the end of World War II, from March 1945 to April 1946, as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged and received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the Golden Dragon.
He married Noelle E. Thompson on Nov. 12, 1944, in Craig, Colo. The couple were blessed with two sons and one daughter and were privileged to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary last month.
In 1978, the Osborns, who were cattle ranchers, moved from Hamilton to Cedaredge where they remained until 1992 when they moved to Eckert, where Mr. Osborn made his home for six years until the time of his death.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedaredge, the Masons, Yampa No. 88, A.F. & A.M. at Craig; belonged to the Colorado Cattlemen's Association; and was a 4-H club leader.
During his lifetime, Mr. Osborn greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and taxidermy.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Osborn's life include his wife, Noelle E. Osborn, of Eckert; one son, Dale B . Osborn and wife Becky, of Austin; one daughter-in-law, Flora Osborn, of Hayden; and seven grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Lowell Osborn, of Meeker; Kenneth Osborn, of Parachute; and two sisters: Naomi Durham, of Axial; and Edith Ottens, of Craig.
Mr. Osborn was preceded in death by one son, Gary Keith Osborn; one daughter, Karen Lynn Osborn; his parents; and four brothers: Marion, Everett, Floyd, and Clarence.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Osborn's life will be officiated on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. from the Grant Mortuary Chapel in Craig.
Interment will follow the service in the Craig Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. and Grant Mortuary of Craig.

John Sanford "Jack" Miller
A Man Born to Farming

MONTROSE - World War II veteran and retired farmer, John S. "Jack" Miller, age 76, of Montrose, died from pneumonia Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 16, 1998, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
John Sanford Miller, the son of Clyde H. Miller Sr. "Strawberry Miller" and Irene (De Haas) Miller, was born on Oct. 4, 1922, in Denver, Colo. He moved with his family to the Pea Green area of Delta in 1938 and graduated from the Olathe High School in 1941.
Mr. Miller was employed with Gates Rubber Co. in Denver until October of 1942 when he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country during World War II. He was part of the Second Armored Division's "Hell on Wheels," which took part in the invasion of Normandy in 1943 and was with the division in England, France, and later Germany. Mr. Miller received the Honorary Belgium Citation for the liberation of that country.
After returning home in 1945, Mr. Miller married Miriam Jane "Mims" Rakestraw on Dec. 19, 1945, in Englewood, Colo., and returned to employment with Gates Rubber Company.
However, city life did not help Mr. Miller's memories of the war fade, and he longed for the farm. A year later Mr. Miller and his wife, Mims, moved back to Pea Green to help his parents farm. They later moved to Shavano Valley, where Mr. Miller farmed for 39 years and was a star producer of Moravian barley for the Adolf Coors Co. for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mims, on May 8, 1996, in Montrose.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Miller's life include two sons: Bill K. Miller and wife Regina, of Colorado Springs; J. Mike Miller, of Sumas, Wash.; and one daughter, Kathy and husband Dennis McAninch, of Sandy, Utah.
Mr. Miller was the proud and doting grandfather of six granddaughters: Jennifer Lauren McAninch, Cheryl Ann Miller, Rebecca Kathleen Miller, Lindsey Jean McAninch, Kelley Jane Miller, and Lauren Christine Miller. Two weeks prior to his death, Mr. Miller told each granddaughter by phone that they were beautiful and how proud he was of their accomplishments and intelligence. It was his goodbye to his granddaughters.
Other family survivors include four brothers: Clyde H. Miller Jr., James S. Miller, Herbert Miller, Luther Miller; and three sisters: Margaret Brown, Laura Ziegel, and Virginia Luttrell.
Public visitation is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Miller's life will be officiated on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

C. Howard McClean
Sturgeon Electric Co. Retiree

MONTROSE - C. Howard McClean, age 78, a resident of Montrose for the past 16 years, died Saturday morning, Dec. 19, 1998, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Born on Oct. 24, 1920, in Denver, Colo., C. Howard McClean was the son of Robert James and Anna (Briggs) McClean. He spent his childhood, graduated from South High School in 1939; and grew to adulthood in Denver.
Mr. McClean served his country in the United States Navy.
He married Lillian Wheeler on Oct. 1, 1980, in Fort Collins, Colo. The couple were privileged to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary this year in October.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. McClean was employed for 38 years with Sturgeon Electric Company in Denver.
He was a member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, B.P.O.E. and received the 55-year pin for I.B.E.W. Local No. 68.
Mr. McClean especially enjoyed football, fishing, and golf. He absolutely loved to travel.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. McClean's life include his wife, Lillian McClean, of Montrose; two sons: Chuck McClean II and wife Christy, of Livermore, Calif.; Mike McClean and wife Carol, of Wyming; two stepsons: Skip Huston and wife Elaine, of Montrose; Tim Huston and wife Denise, of Denver; two daughters: Vicki and husband Robin Wilhelm, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; Lorraine Dinwiddie, of Denver; and one stepdaughter, Sheri and husband Donn Drury, of Denver.
Mr. McClean was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren; and the great-grandfather of numerous great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Gordon McClean, of Sun City, Ariz.; and one sister, Frances McClean, of Denver.
Mr. McClean was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Robert and Donald McClean.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. McClean's life will be officiated by Minister Tim Smith on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Rocky Mathew Gallob
Almost Realized His Dream

PAONIA Rocky Mathew Gallob, age 38, a coal miner and a resident of the Paonia area for most of his life, died in a mining accident on Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in the Bowie Coal Mine near Paonia.
Born on Jan. 23, 1960, in Delta, Colo., Rocky Mathew Gallob was the son of Mathew Wm. and Vera June (Weller) Gallob. He spent his childhood, received his education, and lived in Paonia his entire lifetime except for the year he lived in Hanna, Wyo.
Mr. Gallob married Cheryl Diane Norris on Dec. 6, 1997, in Paonia, Colo. The couple had just celebrated their first wedding anniversary eight days before Mr. Gallob's death.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association (N.R.A.).
Mr. Gallob's loves and joy in life were his family, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and camping. He almost realized his dream of owning the Spruce Lodge and Alexander Lake Lodge on Grand Mesa.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Gallob's life include his wife Diane Gallob; two sons: Mathew Gallob and Brandon Gallob; and one stepson, Michael Fedirko, all of Paonia.
Other family survivors include his father and mother, Bill and Vera Gallob; one sister, Sandy and husband John George, all of Paonia; four nieces, Samantha George; Katrisha, Felisha and Victoria Dickinson; one nephew, Jack George; one grandfather, Harrison Weller, of Paonia; and one grandmother, Kate Gallob, of Delta.
Mr. Gallob was preceded in death by his grandmother, June Weller; his grandfather, Fred Gallob; and two cousins: JoAnn Weller and Cody Stroud.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Gallob's life will be officiated by Robert Timmons and Larry Johnson on Friday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. from the North Fork Baptist Church in Paonia.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedar Hill Cemetery

Hector Alfonzo Camacho
Touched Many Lives

HOTCHKISS - Hector Alfonzo Camacho, age 35, a coal miner and resident of Hotchkiss for 21 years, died in a coal mining accident on Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at the Bowie Coal Mine near Paonia.
Born on Nov. 11, 1963, in Guadala Jara, Mexico, Hector Alfonzo Camacho was the son of Jim Leroy Collins and Maria Del Refugio Munoz Ivarra. He spent his childhood and received his education in Mexico. At the age of 14, he moved to Hotchkiss where he made his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Camacho married Tracy L. Collins on Aug. 13, 1982, in Delta County. The couple were blessed with one son and one daughter and were privileged to celebrate 16 years of marriage this year in August.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
Mr. Camacho was very active in youth sports of all types in the Delta County School system from Cedaredge to Paonia to Hotchkiss from Pee Wee on up. He touched the lives of so many young people as well as family and friends. He greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, and photography work.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Camacho's life include his wife, Tracy Camacho; one son, Adam K. Camacho; and one daughter, Alicia A. Camacho, all of Hotchkiss.
Other family survivors include his mother, Maria Del Refugio Munoz Ivarra, of Guadala Jara, Mexico; two brothers: Paulino Navarro Munoz and Alejandro Espinosa Munoz; four sisters: Antigracia Camacho Munoz, Adella Camacho Munoz, Geonoveva Camacho Munoz, Maria del Rayo Navarro Munoz, all of Mexico; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial Services in remembrance and honor Mr. Camacho's life will be officiated by Pastor James Jesser on Friday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. from the Paonia Friends Church. The service will conclude at the church.

Floyd Samuel Burkdoll
A True Outdoorsman

DELTA Floyd Samuel Burkdoll, a rancher, equipment operator for the U.S. Forest Service and a resident of Delta for 71 years, died on Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in his Delta home.
Born on Sept. 3, 1915, in Reece, Kan., Floyd Samuel Burkdoll was the son of Samuel Franklin and Elizabeth Jane (LaRue) Burkdoll. He spent his childhood in Toronto, Kan., until he was 12 years old. He then moved to Delta where he spent the remainder of his childhood, received his education, grew to adulthood, and made his home for 71 years until the time of his death.
Mr. Burkdoll served his country in the United States Army/Navy.
On March 8, 1945, he married Shirley L. Burch in Delta, Colo. The couple were blessed with two sons and one daughter and were privileged to share 53 years of marriage.
Mr. Burkdoll was a rancher and also worked as an equipment operator for the U.S. Forest Service, maintaining roads throughout the mountain areas, 13 years before his retirement.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Burkdoll was a true outdoorsman, who loved to fish, hunt, and camp. He also enjoyed wood working and gardening.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Burkdoll's life include his wife, Shirley L. Burkdoll, of Delta; two sons: Dale Burkdoll and wife JoAnn, of Montrose; John Burkdoll, of Delta; and one daughter, Janette "Nettie" and husband Claude Springer, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Janeen, Slugger, Cheri, Ty, Justin, Kasey, Christi, and Kenny; and great-grandfather of seven great-grandchildren: Jordy, Khyrsten, Courtney, Bo, Dustin, Kahla, and Sabrina.
Other family survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burkdoll was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Nora Mae Bradbury and Myrtle Michael; and two brothers: Earl Burkdoll and Ralph Cooper.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Burkdoll's life will be officiated by Janette Springer on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.

Virgil C. Breit
Active Church Member

MONTROSE - Virgil C. Breit, the son of Frank and Bessie Breit, was born on May 14, 1918, in Nodaway County, Mo., and died on Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose at the age of 80.
In 1940, Mr. Breit moved to San Diego, Calif., where he worked in the aircraft industry for 43 years.
He was an active member of his church, serving his Lord in many capacities. He was loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Breit married his wife, Virginia, on April 3, 1942. The couple moved to Montrose in 1993 to be near their daughter, where Mr. Breit made his home until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Breit; and his daughter, Linda, both of Montrose.
Services are pending, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
