MONTROSE - Jessie M. Ormsby, age 87, of Montrose, died quietly Thursday afternoon, Dec. 10, 1998, in Carla's Retreat at Olathe, and slipped away to the arms of her Heavenly Father and her eternal family.
Beloved by all who knew her, Jessie M. Gulliver was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Jan. 24, 1911, the daughter of Fred and Knell (Grenade) Gulliver.
She lived many years in Hollywood, Calif., and later in Camarillo, Calif., with her beloved husband, Charles Mathias Ormsby.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her life was given graciously in service to everyone she knew, particularly her children: Linda, Charles and Donald.
Mrs. Ormsby is survived by two children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, who all adored her.
Words most often used to describe Mrs. Ormsby were: Kind, nurturing, generous, gentle, and talented. Mrs. Ormsby's talents were manifold, including oil painting and sketching. She could create a feast with whatever was in the cupboard, and soothe a troubled soul with a word. She always loved Christmas at home, and this year she is truly home with her family. Never has there, nor will there ever be, a kinder, more Christ-like soul within this mortal sphere.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Ormsby's life will be officiated on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Interment will be held in Conejo Mountain Cemetery
at Camarillo, Calif., with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Gary E. Kroschel
Husband, Father, Grandfather

BEAUMONT, Calif. - Former 26-year Delta resident, Gary E. Kroschel, age 53, died of cancer on Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at his Beaumont, Calif., home.
Born on Sept. 25, 1945, in Brawley, Calif., Gary Edgar Kroschel was the son of Herbert Elsworth and Florence Esther (Bauer) Kroschel. He spent 13 years of his childhood on the Eastern Slope of Colorado.
Mr. Kroschel lived in Delta for 26 years before moving to California where he made his home for 14 years until the time of his death.
He was employed as a truck driver for over 20 years and was currently employed by Pacific Modular, Inc., in Beaumont, Calif.
Mr. Kroschel married Jeannie Aileen Widner on April 13, 1979, in Delta, Colo.
He enjoyed a variety of special interests and hobbies during his lifetime which included playing the guitar, country music, mechanics, and hiking in the mountains.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Kroschel's life include his wife of 19 years, Jeannie A. Krochsel, of Beaumont, Calif.; two sons: Ernie R. Patton, of Banning, Calif.; Gary E. Kroschel, of Canon City; two daughters: Wanda Glasser, of Olney Springs; Billie Jo Sandoval, of Grand Junction; and nine grandchildren.
Other family survivors include his father, Herbert Kroschel, of Kingman, Ariz.; four brothers: Elsworth Kroschel, of Deer Island, Ore.; Ronnie Kroschel, of Kingman, Ariz.; Wesley Kroschel, of Del Norte; Bill Fletcher, of Kingman, Ariz.; and two sisters: Linda Andrews, of Kingman, Ariz.; and Dixie Luna, of Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Kroschel was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Esther Kroschel; two sisters: Wanda and Flossie; and one brother, Carl.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Kroschel's life will be officiated by The Rev. Steve Reinhard on Friday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Olathe Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Richard C. Knierim
Retired Accountant

CEDAREDGE - Retired self-employed accountant, Richard C. Knierim, age 78, a resident of Cedaredge for six months, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert.
Born on Sept. 3, 1920, in Trotwood, Ohio, Richard C. Knierim was the son of Fredrick and Rosa Ola (Seese) Knierim. He spent his childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in Brookville, Ohio. He continued to pursue his education at the Miami Jacobs College in Dayton, Ohio.
On Jan. 5, 1950, Mr. Knierim married Ruthe A. Leffel in Dayton, Ohio. The couple were blessed with three sons and one daughter and had the privilege of celebrating 48 years of marriage this year in January.
The Knierims moved from Black River Falls, Wis., to Cedaredge six months ago, where Mr. Knierim made his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Methodist Church of Black River Falls, Wis.
During his lifetime, Mr. Knierim greatly enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Knierim's life include his wife, Ruthe A. Knierim, of Cedaredge; three sons: Richard C. Knierim Jr., of Black River Falls, Wis.; Robert I. Knierim and wife Tammy, of Madison, Wis.; Donald M. Knierim and wife Rosa, of Westmont, Ill.; one daughter, Ruth A. and husband Gary Joros, of Cedaredge; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include two brothers: Ralph Knierim and wife Virginia; and Paul Knierim and wife Alice, all of Brookville, Ohio.
Mr. Knierim was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Carl Knierim; and one sister, Audrey Kinsel.
Private family services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Knierim's life will be held at a later date.

Clarence W. Johnson
Loved and Supported Family

OLATHE - Clarence W. Johnson, age 66, of Olathe, died of cancer on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his Olathe home. Mr. Johnson worked as a miner and was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Clarence W. Johnson was born on Oct. 16, 1932, at Chadwick, Mo., the son of Charles and Lilly (Cross) Johnson. He spent his early years in Dolores and Rico, Colo., moving to Delta in 1945 where he completed his education.
Mr. Johnson served his country from January 1953 until May 1956 in the United States Army, spending 16 months in Korea during the Korea Conflict.
On Oct. 13, 1957, he married Darlene Jones from Delta, Colo., and they established their home in Telluride, where Mr. Johnson began his career as a miner.
In his younger years, he played basketball, baseball, and softball and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, and reading. Until his illness, Mr. Johnson very seldom missed a sporting event of his children or grandchildren. He loved and supported his family in everything they did.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Johnson's life include his wife of 42 years, Darlene Johnson, of Olathe; two sons: Chad Johnson, of Montrose; Darin Johnson, of Olathe; one daughter, Deanna "Dee" Brant, of Ouray; four grandsons in Olathe; two granddaughters in Ouray; one granddaughter in Georgia; one great-granddaughter in Ouray; and two great-grandsons in Georgia.
Other family survivors include one sister, Rosalie Johnson, of Delta.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Louise, who died in 1959; and his parents.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Johnson's life will be officiated by Lyman Thomas on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. from the Menoken Christian Church. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation will precede the service, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Lucy DeVincentis

MONTROSE - Lucy DeVincentis, age 84, a resident of Montrose her entire lifetime, died Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 1998, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
Lucy Deltondo, the daughter of Charles and Carmel (Deluise) Deltondo, was born on April 7, 1914, in Montrose, Colo., where she spent her childhood, received her education, grew to adulthood, and lived her entire lifetime until the time of her death.
Miss Deltondo married Dan DeVincentis on Nov. 29, 1935, on Dallas Divide in Ouray County. The couple were blessed with two sons and two daughters and just recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year in November.
Mrs. DeVincentis, a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother, was a member of the Montrose Jehovah's Witnesses.
The main focus and joy of Mrs. DeVincentis' life was her family and ministry. She enjoyed her garden and flowers.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. DeVincentis' life include her husband, Dan DeVincentis; one son, Don DeVincentis and wife LeeAnn; two daughters: Alice and husband Wilbur Zahniser; Julie Crawford, all of Montrose; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one brother, Joe Deltondo and wife Annie; and her twin sister, Mary English, both of Montrose.
Mrs. DeVincentis was preceded in death by one son, Will DeVincentis; one great-granddaughter; her parents; three brothers: Pete, Louis, and Dominck Deltondo; and one sister, Annie English.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. DeVincentis' life will be officiated by Minister George Butner on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 pm. from the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall on Woodgate Rd. in Montrose. The service will conclude at the hall.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Charles E. "Chuck" Spiers
Vietnam War Veteran

AURORA - Former Montrose resident, Charles E. "Chuck" Spiers, age 51, a resident of Aurora for the last six years, died Saturday morning, Dec. 12, 1998, in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Denver.
Charles E. Spiers, the son of Charles Stanton and Madelyn (Topliss) Spiers, was born on May 21, 1947, in Montrose, Colo., where he spent his childhood, graduated from Montrose High School in 1965, and grew to adulthood.
Mr. Spiers served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
With the exception of the last six years, he lived his entire lifetime in Montrose.
Mr. Spiers was a past president of the Montrose Chamber of Commerce Red Coats, a 28-year member of Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, and a past member of the Montrose Rotary Club. He was an avid wrestling fan and was also a past president of the Montrose Wrestling Association.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Spiers' life include his companion, Wendy Williams, of Aurora; one son, Shaun Spiers, of Denver; and one daughter, Shelli Spiers, of Montrose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Madelyn Spiers.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral home Chapel in Montrose.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Spiers' life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Lundberg on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. from the Montrose Christian Church.
Immediately following the services, interment will be held in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Edith E. Purcell

NORTH DELTA - North Delta Market owner and operator, Edith E. Purcell, age 81, died following a short illness on Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at her North Delta home.
Catherine Edith Eleanor Cole was born on Jan. 5, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Mattie (Dickman) Cole, in Lenora, Okla. She spent her childhood in Dewey County, Okla., where she graduated from the eighth grade.
Miss Cole married Pat Boyd on Oct. 22, 1933, in Talogia, Okla. The couple made their home in Colorado in the summer of 1936. Mrs. Boyd was baptized into the Church Of The First Born in February of 1938. In 1953, she was preceded in death by her husband.
In 1954, she married Jim Purcell, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Purcell enjoyed the retail business and had a love for people. In 1958, she started a small grocery business called the North Delta Market, which she successfully owned and operated for 24 years.
She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Purcell truly enjoyed work, and had a knack for "fixing-up." She never saw a job that was too big to undertake.
She enjoyed traveling and had seen much of the United States as well as Hawaii and Mexico and had taken three trips to the Holy Land. Mrs. Purcell loved helping others and spent many volunteer hours in her community. She especially enjoyed being involved with church activities and cherished her time with her family.
Mrs. Purcell will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Purcell's life include one son, Jerry Boyd and wife Janet, of Austin; and two daughters: Patty and husband Ron Schroeder, of Austin; and Connie and husband Jess Sanders, of Delta.
She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Rhonda Hines, Lori Reiher, Rachelle Morris, Becky Smith, Darren Boyd, Charity Sitton, Misty Sanders, Jesse Sanders; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her two husbands and parents, Mrs. Purcell was also preceded in death by one son, seven brothers, and six sisters.
Visitation time for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service in Delta.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Purcell will be officiated by Allen Moss, Lester Pfister, and Bob Cunningham on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Interment will immediately follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.

Mary Louise Neely
Mother of Three Sons

GLOBE, Ariz. - Mary Louise Neely, age 57, a homemaker and resident of Globe, Ariz., for six years, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in her Globe, Ariz., home.
Mary Louise Byers, the daughter of Harvey A. and Edna A. Byers, was born on Jan. 12, 1941, in Olathe, Colo., where she spent her childhood, attended the Olathe High School, and grew to adulthood.
On June 2, 1958, Miss Byers married Dallas "Forrest" Neely in Olathe, Colo. The Neelys were blessed with three sons and were privileged to share 40 years of marriage this year in June.
The Neelys moved from Grand Junction to Globe, Ariz., six years ago, where Mrs. Neely made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Church of the First Born.
Mrs. Neely's main focus, love, and joy in life was her family, grandchildren, and friends.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Neely's life include her husband, Forrest Neely, of Globe, Ariz.; three sons: Denny Neely and wife Carlene, of Grand Junction; Kyle Neely and wife Vicki, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; Scot Neely and wife Michelle, of Globe, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her father, Harvey A. Byers, of Delta; one brother, Lester Byers and wife Bessie, of Olathe; and four sisters: Betty and husband Dole Ashby; Patty and husband Bob Arnold; Wanda and husband Greg Gibson, all of Delta; and Sherly and husband Jody Retherford, of Olathe.
Mrs. Neely was preceded in death by her mother, Edna A. Byers.
Visitation for family and friends was held on Monday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Neely's life were officiated by Mondis Herrmann and Bob Byers on Monday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. from the Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel.
Interment followed the service in the Pea Green Cemetery
