BEAUMONT, Calif. - Former 40-year Delta resident, Gary E. Kroschel, age 53, died of cancer on Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at his Beaumont, Calif., home.
Born on Sept. 25, 1945, in Brawley, Calif., Gary E. Kroschel was the son of Herbert Elsworth and Florence Esther (Bauer) Kroschel. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood on the Eastern Slope of Colorado.
Mr. Kroschel lived in Delta for 40 years before moving to Beaumont, Calif., where he made his home for 14 years until the time of his death.
He was employed as a truck driver for over 20 years and was currently employed by Pacific Modular, Inc., in Beaumont, Calif.
Mr. Kroschel married Jeannie Aileen Widner on April 13, 1997, in Delta, Colo.
He enjoyed a variety of special interests and hobbies during his lifetime which included playing the guitar, country music, mechanics, and hiking in the mountains.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Kroschel's life include his wife of one year, Jeannie A. Krochsel, of Beaumont, Calif.; two sons: Ernie R. Patton, of Banning, Calif.; Gary E. Kroschel, of Canon City; two daughters: Wanda Glasser, of Olney Springs; Billie Jo Sandoval, of Grand Junction; and nine grandchildren.
Other family survivors include his father, Herbert Kroschel, of Kingman, Ariz.; four brothers: Elsworth Kroschel, of Dear Island, Ore.; Ronnie Kroschel, of Kingman, Ariz.; Wesley Kroschel, of Del Norte; Bill Fletcher, of Kingman, Ariz.; and two sisters: Linda Andrews, of Kingman, Ariz.; and Dixie Luna, of Albuquerque, N.M.
Mr. Kroschel was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Esther Kroschel; two sisters: Wanda and Flossie; and one brother, Carl.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Delta Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Kroschel's life will be officiated by The Rev. Steve Reinhard on Friday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. from the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Olathe Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Hilton M. Hutton
Heavy Equipment Operator

HILL CITY, Kan. - Former Montrose resident and longtime heavy equipment operator, Hilton M. Hutton, age 69, of Hill City, Kan., died on Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, in the Hays Medical Center at Hays, Kan., from injuries he received in an automobile accident on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
Hilton M. Hutton, the son of Clair Cecil and Esther W. (Hatcher) Hutton, was born on Sept. 28, 1929, in rural Graham County, Kan.
He married Joan Hagley on March 25, 1966, in Hill City, Kan. The couple were privileged to share 32 years of marriage this year in March.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Hutton's life include his wife, Joan Hutton, of Hill City, Kan.; one stepson, Bud Smith, of Montrose; two stepdaughters: Jolene Mitchell, of Morland, Kan.; Troy Kennington, of Texarkana, Ark.; four step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hutton was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one stepson, Tim.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Hutton's life will be officiated by Pastor David E. Williams on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. from the Spencer Chapel in Hill City, Kan. The service will conclude at the chapel.

Vic Harrison
Enjoyed Life to the Fullest

AZTEC, N.M. Victor James Harrison, age 39, of Aztec, N.M., died on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, after a brave battle against cancer. He lived his life on his own terms and in doing so enjoyed life to the fullest. His motto was "it is better to burn out than to fade away."
Victor James Harrison was born in Monticello, Utah, on July 23, 1959, the son of Jim and Jeanette (Camberlango) Harrison. He attended Kirtland High School and was employed for the last 17 years with the Bloomfield Refinery.
Mr. Harrison was a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends and loved to watch football especially when the Oakland Raiders were playing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Harrison's life include his wife, Maria, of Aztec, N.M.; one son, James, of Las Cruces, N.M.; and one daughter, Jeanette, of Bloomfield, N.M.
Other family survivors include his father, Jim Harrison and stepmother "Mom" Joan, of Grand Junction; three brothers: Mike Harrison and wife Deana; Jimmy Harrison and wife Angie, all of Grand Junction; Harley Morrell, of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sisters: Gennie and husband Dan Gardner, of Deer Trail; Gena and husband Mike Wood, of Grand Junction; Haley and husband Kelly Plandel, of Toldeo, Wash.; his former wife, Teresa Harrison, of Bloomfield, N.M.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is also survived by his good friends: Cotton McDaniel, Jim Hartle, Richard Hefner, Dean Prugh, Mike Perez, and many other caring friends and co-workers. Mr. Harrison will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, all of whom he missed very much, and is now with.
Mr. Harrison's family would like to say a special thanks to the employees of Giant Industries/ Bloomfield Refinery for their many acts of kindness and financial support. Also to the doctors and nurses at SJRMC's Cancer Center, who in the process of trying to heal Mr. Harrison's body, also became his friends.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Harrison's life will be officiated on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
A Celebration of Mr. Harrison's life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield Multicultural Center. Anyone who knew Mr. Harrison is welcome to come and share his/her stories about this special man.

Dixie Doe Gill
Dearly Loved Her Cats

PAONIA - Dixie Doe Gill, age 56, a lifelong Paonia resident, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Grand Junction after a long battle with cancer.
Dixie Doe Gill was born on Feb. 28, 1942, the daughter of Francis and Betty (Clark) Gill.
Miss Gill cared for her mother until her mother's death in 1985 and then cared for an aunt until her aunt's death.
Miss Gill's pets then became her family, especially her cats, which she dearly loved.
She is survived by numerous cousins.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Miss Gill's life were officiated on Thursday, Dec. 3, from the United Methodist Church in Paonia.
Interment followed the service in the Bethlehem Cemetery
at Paonia, with arrangements handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Clara Edith DePriest
Always Had A Smile

MONTROSE - Clara Edith DePriest, age 81, of Montrose, died on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in the Colorow Care Center at Olathe, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Clara Edith Bower, the daughter of Charles Henry Bower and Edith Fae (Prince) Bower, was born on March 19, 1917, in Ely, Nev. Her mother died when she was 2 years old and she moved with her father to Montrose, Colo. She went to a one-room school on Log Hill.
Mrs. DePriest was a homemaker and worked as the head cook for the Conejos County Hospital for 18 years.
The love and joy of Mrs. DePriest's life was her children and grandchildren. She loved cooking and handiwork. She was noted for being cheery and happy and always had a smile for somebody.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. DePriest's life include her husband, Vernal Weston DePriest, of Manassa; one daughter, Diana M. and husband Carl Westbrook, of Montrose; and two sons: Gary D. DePriest and wife Terry L., of Albuquerque, N.M.; Terry W. DePriest and wife Sharon, of LaJara.
Mrs. DePriest was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 11.
She was preceded in death by two sons and one grandson.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. DePriest's life will be officiated on Friday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Manassa.
Interment will follow the service in the old Manassa Cemetery
at Manassa.

H. Hayes Alexander
Decorated World War II Vet

MONTROSE - Longtime Montrose resident, H. Hayes Alexander, age 82, died following a sudden illness on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center at Grand Junction.
H. Hayes Alexander was born on April 27, 1916, on the family farm (Endwood Farm) in Lockport Township, Will County, Ill., the son of Healy H. and Helen (Baker) Alexander. He graduated from the Lockport Township High School.
Following his high school graduation, Mr. Alexander worked on the family farm until entering the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 during World War II. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant, and flew 25 combat missions over Europe as a B-17 bombardier with the 390th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He held an unfaltering belief that the United States of America is the greatest nation on Earth and our freedoms must be continually defended.
After his return to the United States in 1944, Mr. Alexander married the former Dorothy Mae Miller of Big Spring, Texas, and served as an instructor bombardier. He separated from the service in 1945 and later retired from the United States Air Force Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.
After returning to the family farm in Illinois, Mr. Alexander formed the Alexander Brothers Partnership with his brother, John. In 1968, the farm was sold and the family headed west to Montrose where they purchased a ranch and built a home on Spring Creek Mesa. The ranch was later named "e lo hi," the Cherokee name for "Heaven."
Mr. Alexander served as a director of the First National Bank of Lockport, Lockport, Ill., for many years. He also served as a board member and secretary-treasurer of the Chipeta Water Company and was an associate board member of the Project 7 Water Association. He was a founding member and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5788, Lockport, Ill., and a member of The Retired Officers Association (TROA).
Mr. Alexander will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his positive outlook on life and his incredible ability to fix almost anything and find a solution to most problems. He conducted business on a handshake and always delivered more than was expected of him. He had a simple philosophy of life, "live and let live" and "everything always happens for the best." The design, construction and modification of farm machinery and solar heating systems were among his many accomplishments and he was the owner of two patents. He earned blue ribbons at the Montrose County Fair for his crafts and photography. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by those who had the good fortune to share his life.
Survivors include two sons: Robert W. Alexander, Colonel, USAF (Retired), of Springfield, Va.; Colorado State Senator Ben L. Alexander, of Montrose; one daughter, Sara Alexander Martin, of Colorado Springs; and four grandchildren: Second Lieutenant Scott E. Martin, of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Brooke A. Martin and Lyndsay S. Martin, both students at Colorado State University in Fort Collins; and Haley M. Martin, of Colorado Springs.
Other family survivors include two sisters: Ruth Durrer, of Joliet, Ill.; Margaret Eaton, of Hatboro, Pa.; many nephews and nieces including Marianne Hamrick, of Cory; Carol Wicburg, of Delta; and many grandnephews and grandnieces.
Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Dorothy M. Alexander; and four brothers and sisters.
Public visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Alexander's life will be officiated by The Rev. Steven Warren on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Montrose.
Interment will follow the service in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

Roxann Alice Wilson
Delta Christian Church Member

DELTA - Roxann Alice Wilson, age 85, a homemaker and resident of Delta since 1961, died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, in her Delta home.
Born on Jan. 31, 1913, in Rankin, Okla., Roxann Alice Estes was the daughter of Earl and Carrie Bell (Bates) Estes. She spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in Oklahoma.
Miss Estes and Monte Wilson were married on July 4, 1928, in Oklahoma. They were blessed with two daughters and had the privilege of sharing 70 years of marriage.
In 1961, the Wilsons moved from Cheyenne, Okla., to Delta where Mrs. Wilson made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Delta Christian Church and her special interrests and hobbies she greatly enjoyed were gardening, yard work, and crocheting.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Wilson's life include her husband, Monte Wilson, of Delta; one daughter, Erla Kenney, of Eckert; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Juanita Billingsly, of Sayre, Okla.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Frankye Franklin; four brothers: Orville Estes, who was killed in World War I; Forest Estes, Dick Estes, and an infant brother; and one sister, Evelyn Mabry.
Private family services will be conducted in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Wilson.
Interment will follow the private service in the Delta City Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
Wilma Rose Snyder
Loved and Enjoy Her Family

DELTA - Wilma Rose Snyder, age 85, a homemaker and resident of Delta for three years, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in the Integrated Health Services at Delta.
Wilma Rose Watson was born on Feb. 2, 1913, in Perry County, Ark., the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Andrews) Watson.
Miss Watson was married in 1928 to Garner Harlen, who preceded her in death in 1934 in Conway County, Ark. She then married Herschel Snyder on May 18, 1935, in Montrose, Colo. Mr. Snyder preceded his wife in death on Dec. 28, 1996, in Delta.
Mrs. Snyder lived in Cedaredge from 1988 until being admitted to Integrated Health Services at Delta in 1995. Previously she had lived for 53 years on East Mesa near Olathe.
She enjoyed attending the Methodist church in her younger years. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and going fishing. The greatest love and joy of Mrs. Snyder's life was being with her family.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Snyder's life include two daughters: Lillie Helmick, of Cedaredge; Marilyn Cox, of Glenwood Springs; one son, Herschel Albert Snyder, of Hines, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include one sister, Mary James, of Ventura, Calif.
In addition to her two husbands, Garner Harlen and Herschel Snyder, Mrs. Snyder was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lillian (Andrews) Watson; one son, Thomas Ray Harlen; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Snyder's life were officiated by The Rev. Del Hampton on Monday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. from the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment followed the service in the Olathe Cemetery
at Olathe, with arrangements handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
