DURANGO - Lifelong Montrose resident, Audrey Jane Short, age 73, died on Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Durango.
Audrey Jane Humphrey was born on Thursday, Sept. 24, 1925, in Rexford, Kan., the daughter of J.B. and Anna Fern (Riley) Humphrey.
She married Eldon Short and the couple celebrated 56 years of marriage prior to Mr. Short's death in September of 1998.
Mrs. Short was a homemaker and lifelong Montrose resident.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Short's life include one son, Howard Short, of Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter, Janeen Shilaikis, of Durango; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Other family survivors include three brothers: J.B. Humphrey and Dale Humphrey, both of Montrose; Marlin Humphrey, of Bloomfield, N.M.; and four sisters: Jo Sittner, of Durango; Vauna Bellgardt and Norma Swingle, both of Montrose; and Rita Ehr, of Wheat Ridge.
At Mrs. Short's request, no services will be held.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Hood Mortuary of Durango.
Marion L. "Charles" Moreaux
World War II Veteran

GLENWOOD SPRINGS - Former Naturita resident, Marion L. "Charles" Moreaux, age 75, a retired Master Plumber of Glenwood Springs, died on Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in the Valley View Hospital.
Marion L. Moreaux was born in Naturita, Colo., on June 5, 1923, the son of Charles and Augusta (Schaeffer) Moreaux. He spent his younger years in Naturita and graduated from the San Pedro High School in California.
During World War II, Mr. Moreaux served his country in the United States Army Medical Corp.
He was a member of West Minster Elks Lodge No. 2227, B.P.O.E. for 35 years.
Mr. Moreaux, a kind man who was loved by everyone, will be greatly missed.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Moreaux's life include one daughter, Judi Ross; one granddaughter, Katie Ross-Biorn; one great-grandson, Chace Ross; and three great-granddaughters: KateLee Biron, Kellsea Biorn, and Kyleah Biorn, all of Glenwood Springs.
Other family survivors include one sister, Dorothy Cornforth, of California.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Moreaux was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Lee Moreaux; one son, Charles Moreaux; and one granddaughter, Autumn Nicole Ross-Aldrich.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Moreaux's life will be officiated on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. from the Farnum-Holt Funeral Home Chapel, 405 West 7th, in Glenwood Springs.
Interment will follow the service in the Rosebud Cemetery
at Glenwood Springs, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Farnum-Holt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. of Glenwood Springs.
Lena Etta Kelley
One of Nine Siblings

GRAND JUNCTION - Longtime Paonia resident, Lena Etta Kelley, age 89, a homemaker of Grand Junction, died on Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital at Grand Junction.
Lena Etta Wiening, the daughter of Charles F. and Clara (Rober) Wiening, was born on April 30, 1909, in Paonia, Colo., where she spent her childhood, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
Miss Wiening married Frank F. Kelley in Delta, Colo.
The Kelleys lived in Paonia until 1952 when they moved to Grand Junction where Mr. Kelley preceded his wife in death on June 13, 1981. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Kelley continued to make her home in Grand Junction until the time of her own death.
She was a member of the Paonia Lutheran Church and the Orchard Mesa Bowling Club.
The joy and delight of Mrs. Kelley's life was gardening, fishing, and flowers.
Mrs. Kelley, the last surviving member of her immediate family, is survived by nine nieces, 10 nephews, and six cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frank, she was also preceded in death by one nephew; four sisters: Ellis, Emma, Minnie, Mary; and four brothers: Charlie, Walter, Bill, and Clifford.
Graveside Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Kelley's life will be officiated by Pastor J.C. Sparks on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 1:30 p.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc.
Merl Raymond Beekman
Retired Hard Rock Miner

HOTCHKISS - A World War II veteran and retired hard rock miner, Merl Raymond Beekman, age 76, a resident of Hotchkiss for 23 years, died on Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Born on Feb. 7, 1922, in Doniphan, Neb., Merl Raymond Beekman was the son of Jacob Jensen Beekman and Mary (Harshfield) Beekman. He spent his childhood in Grand Island, Neb., until joining the CCC.
During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Beekman married Bernadine E. "Cass" Knight on Sept. 2, 1947, in Grand Island, Neb. The couple were privileged to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary this year in September.
The Beekmans moved from Leadville to Hotchkiss in 1975 where Mr. Beekman made his home for 23 years until the time of his death.
His favorite hobby was farming on his 30-acre farm in Hotchkiss. Mr. Beekman was an avid reader and liked to play cards.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Beekman's life include his wife, Bernadine E. "Cass" Beekman, of Hotchkiss; and one son, Monty Beekman, of Cripple Creek.
Other family survivors include one brother, Willis Beekman, of Grand Junction; and one sister, Alice James, of Wallback, Neb.
Mr. Beekman was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Marvin, Arnold, Dale, Robert, Vernon; and two sisters: Verna Burkhart and Ruby James.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Beekman's life will be officiated by The Rev. Judi Taylor on Friday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Hotchkiss. The service will conclude at the church.

Daniel Thomas Murphy
Loved Helping Others

MONTROSE - Daniel Thomas Murphy, age 68, a resident of Montrose since 1986, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in his home at Montrose. Mr. Murphy was employed as a counselor for the State of Colorado Vocational Rehabilitation.
Daniel Thomas Murphy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 16, 1930, the son of Thomas Henry and Frances Agnes (McCann) Murphy. He lived in Salt Lake City until he was 7 years old when he moved with his family to Sunnyside, Utah, where he graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood. He continued to further his education and earned a Master's degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Murphy served his country in the United States Armed Forces.
Following his discharge from military service in 1955, he moved to Grand Junction where he remained until relocating to Arvada. In 1986, he moved from Arvada to Montrose where he made his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Murphy married Leah Lehman, who preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1996. He was previously married to Joan for 32 years.
He had a great love for the outdoors and the mountains. Mr. Murphy loved helping others in need especially helping with Meals-on-Wheels.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Murphy's life include his first wife, Joan Murphy, of Arvada; four sons: Patrick Murphy and wife Mona, of Idaho Springs; Michael Murphy, of Montrose; Joseph Murphy and fiancee Mandy Vikdahl, of Arvada; Kevin Murphy and wife Michelle, of Wheat Ridge; three daughters: Mary Murphy, of Denver; Seana Murphy and Steve Robertson; Molly Murphy and fiance David Webb, all of Arvada; and seven grandchildren: Jordan, Kevin, Kyle, Andra, Alicia, Alex Murphy, and a new born.
Other family survivors include three brothers: James Murphy, of Boston, Mass.; Robert Murphy and wife Carol, of Grand Junction; Gerald Murphy and wife Kris, of Palisade; and two sisters: Mary Francis Kiloh and Margaret "Peggy" and husband Gary Fowler, all of Grand Junction.
In addition to his second wife, Leah Murphy, Mr. Murphy was also preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Murphy's life will be officiated by The Rev. John Farley on Friday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. from the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Grand Junction. The service will conclude at the church.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.

James Pinckney Moore

CEDAREDGE - James Pinckney Moore, age 83, a resident of Cedaredge since 1975, died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in the Horizons Care Center at Eckert. Mr. Moore was employed with Martin Marietta in Denver for 38 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1973.
James Pinckney Moore was born on May 22, 1915, in Globe, N.C., the son of David S. and Carrie (Schull) Moore. He spent his childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in White Hall, Md.
On Aug. 2, 1938, Mr. Moore was married in Hazelton, Pa., to Ruth Whitecraft, who preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1986, at Cedaredge.
The Moores lived in Denver from 1957 until 1975 when they moved to Cedaredge where Mr. Moore made his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cedaredge and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Moore especially enjoyed horses and dogs as well as hunting and fishing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Moore's life include two sons: Fred J. Moore, of Westcliffe; David C. Moore, of Silt; one daughter, Melanie Crosby, of Pueblo; and five grandchildren: Randall J. Merchant, Jeffrey D. Merchant, Christopher T. Merchant, Joy Christine Moore, and James Pinckney Moore.
Other family survivors include on sister, Louise Barlow, of Baltimore, Md.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, and parents, Mr. Moore was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mesa View Mortuary in Delta.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Moore's life will be officiated by The Rev. Steve Reinhard on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. from the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Interment will follow the service in the Cedaredge Cemetery, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.

Helen Frances Corn Burgess

GLENDALE, Calif. - Helen Frances Corn Burgess, age 57, died following a lengthy illness on Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in Glendale, Calif.
Private services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Burgess' life have taken place, with arrangements handled under the direction of Forest Lawn Mortuary of Glendale, Calif.
Helen Frances Corn was born in Uravan, Colo., on Sept. 27, 1941, the daughter of William and Helen Corn. She spent her school years in Montrose.
In 1957, Miss Corn married George Burgess in California where they were business owners, which Mr. Burgess still owns and operates, and thoroughly enjoyed working together until the time of her death.
The last few years the couple made time in July to come home to Montrose for family reunions.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Burgess' life include her husband, George Burgess, of Glendale, Calif.; one daughter, Patricia Burgess; one son, Dan Burgess; and two grandchildren.
Other family survivors include her mother, Helen and stepfather John Davis, of Montrose; three sisters: Antonette "Toni" Boyer and Monette Major, both of Montrose; Lynette Carter, of Idabel, Okla.; two brothers: Bill Corn, of Florence; Dennis Herman, of Farmington, N.M.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by one daughter, Crystal Burgess.
