Cleora Mina Amick
February 4, 1913 - June 9, 2006
Cleora Mina Amick was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Lockney, Texas, the daughter of Jonathan Ross and Mina Holt Agee. She was the second child among five bothers and sisters. Cleora’s early childhood was spent in Paducah, Texas, near her beloved grandmother, Satsie Ann Agee. Due to illness as a small child, her family was advised to relocate to a dryer climate. Reading of homesteading opportunities in the newspaper, the family journeyed to Meeker in May of 1918 in a Maxwell car.
Cleora remembered fondly the family homestead near Hole in the Wall Canyon with their first home a boarded tent with dirt floors. Her parents raised grain and vegetables for sale to the miners; likely instilling her well-known and admired gardening ability.
Cleora loved learning. Her early education was at the homestead, with her mother purchasing schoolbooks at the Axial store. When the family leased the Sanderson farm outside Meeker in 1924, Cleora attended school in Meeker and was graduated as valedictorian in 1930. She attended Western State College where she received her teaching certificate and later her bachelor’s degree. Cleora taught in several of the one-room schools around Meeker, including White River City, Strawberry Creek, Coal Creek and Morapos Creek. She also taught in Dinosaur, Hayden and Parachute schools.
On July 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to James A. Amick in Glenwood Springs, Colo. In the early years of marriage, they traveled and worked in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma. During this time, DeeAnn, their oldest daughter, was born. Upon the family’s return to Meeker, Jim and Richard were born. After her husband’s death in 1961, her mother’s heart added two more children to the family in 1967, Sandra and Leticia.
Her love of gardening was overshadowed only by her love of God. She spent many years serving as a Sunday school teacher and playing the piano in a number of churches.
Cleora is survived by her five children: DeeAnn Dondit and husband Bill of Wheeling, Ill., Jim D. Amick and wife Nancy of Meeker, Colo.; Richard Amick and wife Debbie of Warren, Mich.; Sandra Holloway of Littleton, Colo.; and Leticia Lofton and husband John of Phoenix, Ariz.; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Carol Agee of Fort Collins, Colo.; brother Walter Agee of Cedar Hill, Texas, and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one brother, Julian Agee; and one sister, Naomi White.
A celebration of Cleora’s life and home going was held at the Cochran Memorial Chapel in Meeker on Wednesday, June 14.

Ruth Mae Smith

Ruth Mae Smith, 84, passed away June 6, 2006.
Preceded in death by her parents Harry and Lela Shifflet; husband Elwood Smith; brother Jack
Shifflet; and sister Pauline Garner. Survived by her daughter Wilma (John) Thompson; grandson
Ryan (Aminta) Thompson; great-grandson Dylan Thompson. Also survived by nephew Kenny (Terry) Garner; and niece Tammy Garner.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, 2006,
at T.G. McCarthy Rose Chapel with interment following at Mountain View Cemetery.

Johnny A. Coleman, Sr.
August 15, 1944 - June 11, 2006
Johnny A. Coleman Sr., 61, of Rangely, Colo., passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at 9:36 a.m. from his second struggle with cancer.
He grew up in Illinois, was graduated from high school and was honored to serve in the U. S. Marine Corps. When Johnny came home, he worked in coal mines in Illinois and later moved to Colorado and stayed. Working at Deserado Mine for almost 24 years, he dearly loved his co-workers, enjoying the jokes, pranks and struggles they shared.
'Papa John' will be missed by his U.M.W.A. brethren and company personnel, who worked with him for so long.
His kind heart, good nature and integrity will be missed by all who had the fortune to know him, even for only a short time. Hunting, fishing and pinochle will not be the same without him there.
Survivors are his wife Rea; four children Denise, Deanna, Johnny Jr. and Kane and their families; his mother Neva; sisters Jane and Vicky and their families; father-in-law and friend William; sisters-in-law Diana and Tina and their families; and best friends Ally and Button. His father Alvin and younger brother Billy preceded him in death. His wishes were for cremation and private services. A memorial will be planned and announced later. In lieu of flowers, Johnny wished for all donations to be sent to the American Cancer Society at 2754 Compass Drive, STE 328, Grand Junction, Colo., 81506. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Allan Louis Rogers
October 13, 1921 - June 2, 2006
Allan Louis Rogers was born in Fairplay, Colo., on Oct. 13, 1921. He was the son of Silas and Gertrude Rogers, long-time residents of Fairplay.
Rogers attended school in Fairplay and lived on the family ranch until he left for the army in January, 1945. He served in the Pacific campaign and was later chosen for the Military Police and served with the 1st Occupation Troops in Kyoto, Japan. Following his discharge, he returned to South Park where he was associated with his father, Silas Rogers, on the family ranch in South Park near Hartsel, Colo. In 1950, he and his wife, the former Doris Longenbaugh of Fairplay, and their son, Allan Lance Rogers, moved to Meeker where he was associated with his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Dave Prather on the K-T ranch east of Meeker. He was later divorced.
In July of 1955 he married Marjorie Russell. Following the sale of the K-T ranch, he served as brand inspector for 13 years and they joined Russell Ranch as partners. When their son Ben completed college, he and his parents became a partnership in the Russell Ranch operations.
Allan was an avid sportsman; being an excellent marksman he enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Western Slope Rodeo Association and participated in many area rodeos in calf roping and team roping. He loved working with his horses and spending time at the ranch cow camp on Burro Mountain moving the cattle and gathering them in the fall. He had a true love for ranch life.
Due to declining health, he was admitted to Colorado Veteran’s Nursing Home in Rifle, Colo., where he remained until his death. Allan is survived by his wife Marge, his sons, Lance Rogers, Bullhead City, Ariz., Rusty Rogers, Craig, Colo., and Ben Rogers of Meeker. Two granddaughters, Andrea Lipo and husband Jim, Phoenix, Ariz., Candice Ngo and husband Huy, Silver Springs, Md., one grandson, Cole Allan Rogers of Meeker and one great-granddaughter, Lexi Lipo of Phoenix, Ariz., brother-in-law Dave Prather of Meeker, niece Connie and her husband Forrest Nelson of Meeker, nephews Roger Almgren, Montrose, Colo., and John Almgren and wife Sandy of Kremmling, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Thelma Almgren and Virginia Prather, and one brother who died in infancy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Meeker 4-H livestock judging team.
Clark Wix
May 27, 1921 - June 1, 2006
Clark Wix, 85, a lifelong resident of the White River Valley, died at his riverbank home near the Sleepy Cat Resort early Thursday, June 1, 2006, after battling failing health for several years. His wife, Shirley, and her daughter, Cathy, were with him at the time of death.
Clark arrived in this world shortly after a harrowing trip to Meeker from the two-room cabin above Axial Basin, homesteaded by his mother, Marie, and father John E. 'Jack' Wix. The long trip to town was by team and wagon and then Model T Ford, in a late spring snowstorm. The journey underscored the 'can-do' attitude that would become a guiding value of Clark’s life.
Clark attended the Meeker schools and after graduating he furthered his education at Chillicothe, Mo., Business College, Brigham Young University, Denver University and Mesa College of Grand Junction, Colo. Active in athletics, Clark was a four-year letterman in both football and basketball at Rio Blanco High School in Meeker. He captained the football team for two years and also presided over his class as president for three years.
Shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941, Clark, together with his brother, John, and their lifelong friend, Roy Sizemore, enlisted in the U.S. Army.
In December 1944, Clark’s anti-tank unit was deployed to combat in France where he was cited for 'heroic achievement in action,' Jan. 2, 1945, near Baerenthal, France. The citation continued:
'Staff Sergeant Wix was a member of an anti-tank gun squad which went into position under heavy enemy mortar fire to meet an armored assault of six enemy tanks. When the hostile force drew close, supporting riflemen withdrew, permitting the enemy to open turrets and subject the squad to intense 88mm and machine gun fire. Servicing the piece when the gunner was blinded by muzzle blasts, Staff Sergeant Wix took over the gunner’s position and continued firing until two tanks were knocked out and the attack stopped.' Clark was awarded the Bronze Star, and a field promotion from corporal to Staff Sergeant for his bravery.
After the fall of Hitler in 1945, Clark was honorably discharged in Germany and decided to stay there to serve his government for an additional year as a civilian in the army of occupation.
Clark returned to Meeker in early 1947, where he married Meeker native Charlotte Emma Warren. Four children were born of this union: Lisa, Kim, Steve and John all of whom survive him.
In the years that followed, Clark started several businesses in Meeker, endeavors in which Charlotte worked at his side.
The most notable of these became the Sleepy Cat Guest Ranch, which developed under their hard work and guidance, into one of the most renowned restaurants and resorts in western Colorado.
This became the anchor for the Wix family, where all of the children worked and were trained to follow the strong work ethic of their parents. They owned and successfully operated Sleepy Cat for 38 years until its sale in 2002.
The family gained countless dear friends during their time at 'The Cat' who will miss Clark’s dry wit and generous heart.
Clark and Charlotte divorced in 1981. Later he married Shirley Englert and spent the final three decades of his long life with her.
Clark and Shirley enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and several foreign countries.
They spent their last thirteen winters in Arizona, but their greatest joy was returning in the spring to their home on the White River and the valley where he grew up hunting, fishing and trapping.
Besides those already named herein, Clark is survived by his brother John of Basalt, Colo., a cousin Dorothy Jackson of Hemet, Calif., and 20 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Meeker, June 6.
Burial was at the Highland Cemetery.
Clinton Dean Miller
February 8, 1971 - May 17, 2006
Clinton Dean Miller, 35, a former resident of Rangely was taken from us suddenly due to injuries he received in a car accident, May 17, 2006.
He was born Feb. 8, 1971 in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Edward A. and Iris (Hatch) Miller. His family moved to Rangely when he was seven days old. He attended the Rangely Elementary School from kindergarten through second grade. His parents divorced in 1974. Both parents remarried. His mother to Ray Holman then later to Jim Nolan. His father to Nicole. He lived in various parts of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming before his mother and stepfather moved him and his younger brother and sister to Oklahoma City, Okla., where he lived at the time of his death.
Clinton loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed dancing, camping and fishing. You’d find him with a fishing pole in his hand every chance he had. Clinton loved the mountains and was planning on returning to Rangely where his oldest brother Edward (Eddie) Miller, stepbrother Ron Carson and stepsister Chantal lived with their families along with his uncles and aunts and a number of cousins.
He worked as a mason with his stepfather Jim, for a time before going to work on railroad oil tankers. He also did a variety of other jobs in Oklahoma. He was a carrier for the Oklahoma News at the time of his death.
He has two daughters, Samantha and Christina, from his first marriage. He was engaged to Lisa Haywood of Oklahoma City, Okla.. A summer wedding was planned.
He is survived by his daughters, Samantha and Christina Cummings of Odgen, Utah, mother Iris Nolan of Oklahoma, Okla., father Edward A. and stepmother Nicole Miller of Arizona, brother Edward (Eddie) Miller (Christina), Rangely, Colo., brother Corey and sister Diana Holman, Oklahoma City, Okla., stepbrother Ron Carson (Stormie), stepsister Chantal (Ritchie) Rangely, Colo., grandmother Norma McKee, Cheyenne, Wyo., and uncles and aunts, Bob and Gaila Bell, Eddie and Sharon Stewart, Larry and Lisa Hatch, Rangely, Colo., and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his brother Jerry Michael Holman, stepfather Jim Nolan, grandparents Jerry and Lois Hatch, grandfather Art Miller and cousin Jerramie Bell.
Clinton Dean Miller

RANGELY — Clinton Dean Miller, 35, former Rangely resident and brother of Eddie Miller and wife Christina, nephew of Robert and Gaila Bell, Eddie and Sharon Stewart and Larry and Lisa Hatch of Rangely, died May 17, 2006, in a car accident in Oklahoma City, Okla. where he resided with his mother, Iris Nolan, sister Diana and brother Corey Holman. A full obituary will be in next week’s paper. Time and date of graveside services in Rangely are still pending, where he will be laid to rest beside his grandparents Jerry and Lois Hatch and cousin Jerramie Bell.
Patricia (Patty) Howard
February 12, 1939 - May 19, 2006
Patricia (Patty) Howard, 67, of Vernal, Utah, lost her battle with cancer on May 19, 2006 at the Ashley Valley Medical Center in Vernal.
She was born Feb. 12, 1939 in Denver, Colo., to Howard and Erma (Dunn) Kilduff. She attended the Rock School in Piceance Creek, Upper White River School near Buford and was graduated from Meeker High School in 1957. She then attended Barnes School of Business in Denver and after being graduated, moved to Rangely, Colo., where she was employed with The California Company.
On June 13, 1959, she married James “Darrel” Howard and they had two children, David and Teresa. After raising her family, she continued her career by working 18 years for Chevron USA and retired in September of 1998. In 2005, Darrel and Pat moved to Vernal. Pat loved to spend time with her family and many friends. She enjoyed camping, fishing, walking, traveling, cooking and baking. Nana also enjoyed attending her grandkids’ many activities.
Survivors include her husband, Darrel; son, David (Karen) Howard of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughter, Teresa (Brad) Laney of Vernal, Utah; grandchildren, Ashley and Brittany Howard of Evanston, Wyo., and Jared, Joshua and Jordyn Laney of Vernal, Utah; great-grandson, Trapper Howard of Evanston, Wyo.; one brother, Tom (Jeannie) Kilduff of Meeker, Colo.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents and one brother, James, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rangely on Tuesday, May 23, followed by interment at Highland Cemetery
in Meeker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rangely, Holy Family Catholic Church in Meeker or the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City through Cochran Memorial Chapel, P.O. Pete Piering
March 17, 1919-May 8, 2006
Pete Piering, 87, died May 8, 2006, at Rangely District Hospital.
George Francis Piering was born March 17, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of George and Anna (Moore) Piering. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School and following his high school graduation was inducted into the United States Army.
He proudly served his country during World War II and returned home a highly decorated veteran, having been awarded two purple hearts, a bronze star, a gold star with clusters, as well as numerous other occupation and victory medals.
A brief encounter with a beautiful young nurse, Margaret Warwick, found him smitten with his future bride.
They were united in marriage and lived briefly on the Warwick Family Ranch in Worland, Wyo., later moving to Rangely where he worked in the oil fields until retiring in the late 1970’s from Chevron.
The couple moved to Montrose where Margaret preceded him in death. Pete later moved to Grand Junction and in November of 2005 moved to Rangely to be near his son and family. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed working in his yard, reading and being the consummate socialite.
He is survived by his son, George and wife Lisa of Rangely, his daughter, Mary, of Colorado Springs, four grandchildren, Daniel and Peter Hiltbrand, Amanda and Meagen Piering and two sisters Anna Collins and Joannie Guzewicz, both of Queens, N.Y.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Patrica, three brothers William, Edward and Francis and one sister Patricia Piering.
Graveside services were held Thursday May 11, 2006, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. Military honors were accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard of the Western Slope under the direction of Cochran Memorial Chapel.
John Klein
May 25,1933-May 11, 2006
Lifelong Meeker resident John Klein died May 11, 2006, at Pioneers Medical Center.
Julius John Klein, Jr. was born May 25, 1933, in Meeker, the son of Julius John “Jay” and Florence (Hensel) Klein, Sr. He attended Meeker public schools and was graduated from Meeker High School. Immediately following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy, serving his country for four years during the Korean War.
Following his discharge, John returned to Meeker where he did surveying work with Wilton Wharton for a short time. He then went to work with the Colorado Game and Fish Department at Little Hills, then transferred to the Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery where he was employed until his retirement in 1989.
On July 7, 1979, he was united in marriage to Ramona Willey in the backyard of his parents’ home. The couple enjoyed bowling together for many years and John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, camping, archery, hunting and also enjoyed doing woodworking. John and Mona spent many happy moments on their frequent gambling junkets to Mesquite, Las Vegas and other areas.
In addition to his beloved Mona, John is survived by his mother, Florence Klein of Meeker, three sisters, Emma Lou Frisby and her husband Dale of Meeker, Betty Cook and her husband Orie of Craig and Faye Henderson of Grand Junction; two brothers, Tom Klein of Meeker and Larry Klein and his wife Sandy of Grand Junction; 16 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. His father preceded him in death in 1987.
A funeral service to celebrate his life was held Monday, May 15 at the Meeker United Methodist Church. A private family interment service will be held in the Highland Cemetery. Cochran Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Harry Adrain Blackman
October 1, 1918 - May 5, 2006
Harry Adrain Blackman, 87, known to most as Adrain Blackman, passed away Friday, May 5, 2006, at Glen Valley Care Center in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
Adrain was a rancher and lived in the Rifle area all his life. He was born on Oct. 1, 1918, in Rifle, Colo., to George and Artencia (Stites) Blackman.
On Feb. 1, 1948, Adrain married Eleanor Jones in Grand Junction, Colo. He met Eleanor in 1947 at a local dance.
In 1961 Adrain took over the Blackman Ranch that was homesteaded by his grandfather in 1911, where they made their home until their health started to fail. The Blackman Mesa Ranch is now run by his daughter Barbara and her husband, Jerry Lowery.
Adrain was associated with the First Christian Church of Rifle, the Cattleman’s Association and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Rifle for many years, serving as a past governor. Adrain was a complete family man and loved his grandchildren very much. He was also known as a great hunter and loved to go fishing and camping and liked to spend time playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Blackman, in Glen Valley Nursing Home in Glenwood; daughter Barbara “Barb” Lowery and husband Jerry; five grandchildren Rebecca Riggins (Gene) of Ga., Marc Sigmon, stationed in the Great Lakes area in the Navy, Caryn Sigmon of Denver, Darian Sigmon also of Denver and Eric Lowery (Charlene) of Norfolk, Va., where he is with the Navy; great-grandchildren Treavor Sigmon, 7, of Rifle; Logan Lowery, 3, of Norfolk, Va.; Lainey Lowery, 2, also of Norfolk, Va.; and Breauna Sigmon Chatman, five months, also of Denver. He is also survived by many other family members and great friends too numerous to mention.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Phillip, Frank, George and an infant brother that was never named, twin sisters Ethel Donaldson and Edith VanderTook.
Memorial service is scheduled for today at the First Christian Church in Rifle at 2 p.m. Rev. Dene Johnson will officiate.

Patrick James “PJ” McCord
May 14, 1984 – April 15, 2006
Patrick James “PJ” McCord was born in Aspen, Colo., on May 14, 1984. He lived in Basalt and attended Basalt Elementary and Middle Schools. During the fall months he was a goalie on youth soccer team. He spent many winter days skiing in Aspen and especially enjoyed downhill racing. PJ loved living at guest ranches on the Frying Pan River. There he expanded his enthusiasm for fly fishing. He attended the Orvis Fly Fishing School in Montana and became the youngest ever Orvis-endorsed fly fishing guide. PJ enjoyed the outdoors: camping, fishing, four-wheeling, motorcycling and snowmobiling.
PJ moved to Meeker when he was sixteen and attended and was graduated from Meeker Alternative High School in 2002.
During his teen years he began showing interest and talent in mechanics by helping friends work on and rebuild their trucks. He continued to do this after graduation, while working as a Rio Blanco County employee. He turned his mother’s garage into a training area for his future job with the United States Air Force.
Patrick was excited about joining the Air Force Feb. 3, 2003. He was graduated from basic military training at Lack Land Air Force Base in Texas. He attended technical training school at Port Hueneme, Calif., where he was trained as a vehicle maintenance technician. His first duty station in May 2004, was at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., assigned to the 96th Logistics Readiness Squadron as a general purpose mechanic. He then relocated to the 712 Red Horse Flight, Leghorn Depot, Livorno City, Italy, February of 2005. There he served as a vehicle maintenance technician. He earned the Air Force training ribbon, the marksman award, the Global War on Terrorism service medal, the National Defense service medal and the Air Force good conduct medal.
PJ was always ready and willing to listen, to help and to be a friend. He loved living and lived his life to the fullest. Patrick was killed while doing something he loved, riding his motorcycle, in Pisa, Italy.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Tara L. Bigham McCord of Pisa, Italy, his mother Sherri. S. McCord of Meeker, his brother Nic McCord of Meeker, and his father Patrick B. McCord of Germantown, Mass. Patrick brought a ray of sunlight into our lives in the form of his son, J. Alex Elliot-McCord of Crawford, Neb.
PJ was loved and will be missed by his many aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends.
We laid him to rest in Colorado in the mountains he loved, between the rivers he loved to fish.
Maxine R. Holland
July 4, 1919 - April 27, 2006
Former Meeker resident and long-time educator Maxine R. Holland, 86, died April 27, 2006, at the Hildebrand Care Center in Canon City.
Maxine Ruth Hoge Holland was born July 4, 1919, in Longmont, Colo., to Josephine and Walter Lewis Hoge. She was graduated from Longmont High School in 1937, and from Colorado State University with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1941.
She traveled to Europe after graduation with her future sister-in-law, Norine Holland. Maxine accepted a teaching position in the Meeker school system when Josephine Holland was Rio Blanco County Superintendent of schools. Mrs. Holland wrote her son T.J. (Bud) who was serving his country overseas in WWII to let him know that there was a “gorgeous babe” named Maxine Hoge who was teaching at the Beaver Creek School, and when he came home on furlough they must meet! Once home in Meeker, T.J. rode his horse up to the front door of the Beaver Creek School and hollered “Is there a Maxine Hoge in there?” She came to the door and greeted Bud and although not impressed by his boisterous behavior, Maxine did agree to meet Bud for dinner. Well, it was love at first sight and they were married in 1945.
Maxine and Bud were married for 50 years until Bud’s passing in 1996. Born to their union were three daughters to whom they gave much love and many opportunities: Kathyrn Jo (Kathy) Holland Turner was born in 1947, Sally Ann (Holland) Merriam was born in 1949, and Betty Lou Holland was stillborn in 1951. She is interred in Highland Cemetery
in Meeker. Maxine cherished her two granddaughters, Tani Merriam Roberts (Chris), and Kristi Merriam Post (Jon), and they loved her dearly.
Maxine fell in love with the White River valley and all its beauty. She taught Home Economics in the high school for many years, and took a brief hiatus from teaching until her girls reached school age. Maxine returned to teaching second grade and later third grade. She loved teaching those little tykes and worked hard to give them a good start. Maxine made many special and lasting friendships with her fellow teachers. She retired from teaching after 32 years of service to the Meeker community.
Maxine enjoyed the fellowship of P.E.O., Chicken Salad Club, Fortnightly Club, Bridge Club and Cattle Women’s Association and earlier she and Bud so enjoyed their involvement in Curtain Call and the Meeker Saddle Club, as well as their square dance club. The entire Holland family was very involved in the Meeker Massacre Pageant. Maxine played the part of Mrs. Price for several years and Arvella Meeker for three years. Maxine was a member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Meeker, Colo.
Maxine and Bud loved to take long rides up the White River, Nine-Mile, the Irish Mesa and up to Thornburgh and “Windy Bill.” Maxine loved to fish, have family picnics and tend her garden. She was a skilled cook and seamstress. They loved spending time with their girls and their families in Florence and California as well as trips to Hawaii and Alaska.
Maxine spent the last ten years of her life in Canon City, Colo. at Hildebrand Care Center. She waged a valiant battle against multiple sclerosis and received dedicated care from the staff, as well as the remarkable love and care from her daughter Sally, husband John and granddaughters Tani and Kristi who lived nine miles away in Florence, Colo.
Maxine was “promoted to glory” peacefully with her family at her side on April 27, 2006 at the age of 86.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bud, her daughter Betty Lou, her parents, her two sisters, Josephine Thimmig, and Margaret Redman, her brother Marvin Hoge, her sisters-in-law Mary Murray, Colleen Holland and Shirley Hoge, her brothers-in-law John Thim-mig, Barney Holland and Bill Murray.
Maxine is survived by her two loving daughters Kathy (Gerry) Turner of Long Beach, Calif., and Sally (John) Merriam of Florence, Colo., two granddaughters, her sister-in-law Norine Holland of Meeker and her brother-in-law Don Redman of Longmont, Colo., a host of nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends, from Longmont, Colorado State University and Meeker.
Maxine’s memorial service was held on April 30, 2006, at St. James Episcopal Church in Meeker and she was interred at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church. Her services were entrusted to Cochran Memorial Chapel.
