Robert W. Wells, Jr. was born April 22, 1954, in Enid, Okla., to Robert W. and Joan (Harger) Sr. He was raised in Meeker, Grand Junction and Clifton. Bob was graduated from Central High School in Grand Junction. Bob moved to Craig 28 years ago and has been employed in construction work. He enjoyed fishing and latch-hooking rugs.
Bob is survived by his daughter Theresa Shatley, Hayward, Wis., son Tommy (Corenia) Wells, Craig, Colo., grandchildren Ashley, Tyler, Kaleb and Caitlyn; parents Robert and Joan Wells Sr., Meeker, Colo.; brother Ray-mond Eugene Wells, Washington.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Grant Mortuary in Craig with Loren Baysinger officiating. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to the Diabetes Association in care of Grant Mortuary.

Jonnie Francil Fullenwider, 74, of Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Rangely, Colo., passed away Aug. 7, 2006. Services were held in Gillette with burial at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Wilma Frances Winn
June 5, 1912 ~ August 28, 2006
Wilma Frances Winn, 94, passed away Aug. 28, 2006, at her Mesa View Retirement Center home.
Wilma Frances Winn was born in McAlester, Okla., June 5, 1912, to John Dea Stephenson and Harriet Lyon Stephenson. Wilma was fifth in the family of six children.
While an infant, the family moved to Durant, Okla., where Wilma grew up. She was graduated from Durant High School and attended college. She received her bachelor of science degree from Central State University in 1938. She completed a year of graduate work in various universities. This led to a career in teaching.
Wilma was married to Sam A. Winn and was the mother of two sons. The family lived in Colorado for many years. Wilma taught elementary school in Rangely, Colo., for 24 years.
Wilma belonged to CEA, NEA, AARP, Eastern Star Sorority and the First Christian Church. She had been an active member in all of the above in her younger years. Her interests were children and school. She loved gardening and nature. Politics also attracted her. She was an enthusiastic homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, an excellent cook and seamstress and she enjoyed entertaining many friends and family. She traveled to Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Hawaii and all over the United States.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Stephenson; husband, Sam D. Winn; sons, Stephen Allen and Samuel Dale; four brothers, Claude, Carl, Aubrey, and Edwin Stephenson; one sister Bonnie Teague; and two nephews, Richard Stephenson and David Teague.
Wilma is survived by three granddaughters, Sandra, Stephenie and Sherry Winn; one grandson, Michael Winn; one grandson-in-law, Jeffrey Marden; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Joe and Michael Winn and Jocelyn Marden. There are also eight nieces, three nephews and one sister-in-law.
Wilma will be remembered for her love, generosity, pioneer spirit and amazing strength. She will also be thought of as a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, educator and woman. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Funeral services were held at Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ with Reverend Jeannie Lewis officiating. Interment will followed at Palisade City Cemetery. Visitation time was held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at Martin Mortuary.

Benjamin Arthur Long
April 11, 1928 - August 30, 2006
Lifelong Rio Blanco County resident Ben Long, 78, died Aug. 30, 2006, at Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker.
Benjamin Arthur Long was born April 11, 1928, in Meeker, the son of Theodore Roosevelt and Etta (Meriwether) Long. He was raised in Meeker, attending Craig and Meeker public schools. He worked for 12 years for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as a trapper, working from Rangely to Meeker, Granby to Basalt and throughout all of Colorado. Ben talked fondly of his time on the Flattops with a tent, horse and pack mule. He worked for many of the old-time lodges doing packing and outfitting work.
In 1950, Ben entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Second Infantry Division, also known as the 'Indian Head Division' because of their patch logo.
Ben was wounded in the service, receiving the Purple Heart for his valor. He returned to Rio Blanco County where he did contracting work and later worked as a roustabout in the oilfields having owned Ben Long Contracting, Inc. under lease to Chevron. He was a life member of VFW Post #5843, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In 1956, Ben was united in marriage to Ruth Ann 'Gooby' Fickle. She preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1995. Ben is survived by his mother, Etta A. Wooten of Whitewater; four sons, Raymond (Sherry) Pitt of Tooele, Utah; Bret (Andrea) Long of Astoria Ore.; Benjamin Michael 'Mike' and (Bonnie) Long of Rangely, Clete and (Kim) Long of Rangely; one daughter, Susan and (Paul) Shelton of Meeker; 13 grandchildren, John Long, Roxie and Casey Long; Cody and Barbara Long; Tyler Williams, Zack Williams; Colby Shelton, Hannah Long and Evan Long, Sarah Rydalch, Cody and Travis Pitt, two brothers, Bob and Ellene Long of Clifton; Ronald and Joan Long of Nucla and one sister, Norma Jean and Leroy Wright of Whitewater.
In addition to his wife, his father and his brother, T.R. Long, preceded Ben in death.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Rangely Camper Park, at the east end of Main street. Services will conclude at the park with a potluck luncheon.

Everett E. Proctor
May 8, 1969 ~ August 20, 2006
Everett Earl Proctor, 37, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 20 at his home in Colorado Springs.
Proctor was born May 8, 1969, in Gillette, Wyo., the son of Clinton 'Shorty' Proctor and Sandra Rector. Everett’s stepfather, Billy Taylor, worked construction, so as a young boy Everett moved throughout the country, moving to Meeker in the seventh grade.
He was graduated from Meeker High School in 1987 and attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wis., where he double majored in physics and philosophy. Everett enjoyed working summers for the United States Forest Service clearing paths and spending time in the wilderness. He worked in the hotel industry for many years until moving to Colorado Springs in 2005. At the time of his death Everett was working in the check order processing department for Deluxe Check Printers.
Everett enjoyed nature and exploring different life philosophies. He loved to spend time on his computer and had many friends throughout the World Wide Web.
Everett was united in marriage July 1, 2006, to Audra Daugherty. Audra survives in the family home, as does his 10 year old stepson, Christopher. He is also survived by his mother, Sandy Taylor of Meeker; one sister, Martha Taylor of Grand Junction; his grandmother, Ruby Hart of Meeker; one half-sister, Tracy Goodrich, and one half-brother, Clinton Burke, both of Meeker as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Everett is preceded in death by his father, his stepfather Billy Taylor, his grandmother, Irma Rector, one aunt, Earlene Rector and one uncle Carl 'Spud' Proctor.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Meeker United Methodist Church. A second service was held Sunday, Aug. 27, with interment in the Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Everett Proctor Memorial Fund in care of Cochran Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Lana Gregory Idol

Lana Idol, 93, passed away at the Heartland Healthcare Center in Austin, Texas.
Lana was born in Elk, Wyo., March 30, 1913.
Funeral services are pending until late September or early October.

Chip V. Allred
February 2, 1963 ~ August 12, 2006
Chip Vernon Allred, age 43, of Altamont, Utah, a former resident of Rangely, died Aug. 12, 2006, of an apparent heart attack. He was an organ and tissue donor.
He was born Feb. 2, 1963, in Vernal, Utah, to Jack K. and Verna Thacker Allred.
He married Lily Jane Ames Sept. 9, 1983. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. Lily died May 30, 2006.
Chip was graduated from Altamont High School in 1981. He was first employed by Burke Lindsay Oilfield service. He later worked for Utex and was currently working for El Paso as construction foreman.
Chip was a loving father, husband and brother. He was a friend to everyone who knew him. He put his family first and always did all he could to help those around him. Next to Lily, his children were the most important thing in his life. He loved to camp, fish, hunt and ride four-wheelers with his family.
Chip’s father taught him carpentry and he carried on the family trade, becoming a master carpenter. He always made his surroundings better because he was there. Chip was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was currently the mayor of Altamont City.
Chip is survived by his children, Baily, Kolby and Kade; brother, Robert (Saundra) Allred, Bridgeland, Utah; sisters, Jeane (Ray) Lambert, Riverton, Utah; Doris (David) Hislop, Vernal, Utah; Gwen (Michael) Fisher, Altonah, Utah; Helen (Jay) Abbott, Duchesne, Utah.
He is also survived by his father and mother in-laws, Leo and Shirley Ames, Altonah; grandmother-in-law, Arda Ames; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven and Laurie Ames, Altonah; Ken and Teresa Burdick, Roosevelt; Dean and Leslie Thacker, Altamont; Bryan and Sandy Ames, Bluebell; and many nieces and nephews.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janet Allred, and wife, Lily.
Funeral services were held Aug. 15, 2006, at the Altamont LDS Stake Center. Burial in the Altonah Cemetery
was under the direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at American First Credit Union on behalf of the children.
Dale A. Payton
March 10, 1922 ~ August 9, 2006
Dale A. Payton, 84, of Meeker passed away Aug. 9, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dale Arthur Payton was born March 10, 1922, to Chester Arthur and Mabel Catherine Payton in Norton, Kan. In 1931, when he was nine years old, the family of eight moved from Mount Ida, Kan., to Grand Junction, Colo. He attended school at Fruitvale and Fruita.
In March of 1942 they moved to Grand Valley, now Parachute, Colo., where he graduated from Grand Valley Union High School. After graduation, he went to Camp Hale at Pando, near Leadville, Colo. He worked there until joining the army Sept. 30, 1942.
Dale was a radio operator, high speed and intercept operator. He was stationed in China, Burma and India during World War II. He received an honorable discharge Jan. 17, 1947. After the war, he went to work for the Bureau of Mines and Anvil Points.
He married Viola Christian in Rifle, Colo., Feb. 1, 1947. He worked in construction and on ranches around Rifle and Grand Valley.
He also attended an agriculture school. In May of 1972, he and his family moved to Meeker, Colo., where he worked for B.P. Franklin for 15 years. Dale retired in 1987. Dale and Viola moved into town after he retired.
Dale enjoyed going to Piceance Creek and Sand Wash to see the wild horses. He also enjoyed going for drives on the county roads around Meeker.
Dale is survived by Viola, his wife of 59-1/2 years; his five children, Carol and E. Britt of Rifle, Jerry and Kitty Payton of Grand Junction, Cindy and Walt Moyer of Craig, Dorothy and Larry Hayes of Meeker and Christie and Bruce Long of Dinosaur. Fourteen grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren also survive as does one sister, Lily Womack of Calif.; three brothers, Norman and Jean of Texas, Wayne and Alberta of Parachute and Warren and Irene of DeBeque as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Fred Peak and two sisters, Madge Chase and Dorothy Payton. He will be placed to rest in the Battlement Mesa Cemetery
at Parachute.
Carrie L. Bina
December 25, 1937 ~ August 7, 2006
Lifelong Meeker resident Carrie L. Bina, 68, died Aug. 7, 2006, at Pioneers Medical Center after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Carrie Loretta McGruder was born Christmas Day, 1937 in Meeker, the daughter of Elmer and Lura (Swarts) McGruder. She attended Meeker schools and was graduated from Rio Blanco County High School.
Carrie was united in marriage to Theodore 'Ted' Bina March 14, 1962, in Grand Junction. In her younger days, Carrie waitressed at the Meeker Café, later working side by side with Ted — having taught her to drive a truck. Carrie loved to spend time enjoying the activities of her grandchildren who lovingly called her 'Muckers.'
In 1971, the Bina’s purchased the White River Bowl in Meeker, owning the lanes for more than 25 years. Carrie loved to fish, hunt, spend time in her garden and cook. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed drawing.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Carrie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ted, two sons, Ted and his wife Kelly of Rifle and Merle of Meeker, one daughter, LaVina Reese and her husband Larry of Parachute, her son-in-law, Matthew Phillips of Rifle, five grandchildren, Audra Underhill and her husband Andrew, Gerald, Mackenzie, Tristin and Grace, two great-grandsons, Clay and Cameron as well as two brothers, Wren McGruder of Silt and Elmer McGruder of Meeker and two sisters, Audrey Squires of Rifle and Lill Ross of Meeker.
Carrie is preceded in death by two daughters, Vicki, who died in infancy and Valerie Gaye Phillips who passed away Feb. 23, 2005, her parents, three brothers; Earl, Carl and Harry and one sister Stella.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. at Cochran Memorial Chapel in Meeker. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery. A visitation time will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. or Saturday prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Walbridge Wing Memorial Fund through Cochran Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Myron Dean Dull
August 11, 1943 ~ August 1, 2006
Myron Dean Dull, 62, of Northglenn, Colo., went to be with the Lord Aug. 1, 2006.
He was born Aug. 11, 1943, in California to Vernon and Audrey Dull. He was raised and graduated in Meeker, Colo. In 1961, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was in the Corps for four years.
He married Theralyne Wilson Aug. 12, 1962, and had two daughters, Stacey and Kim. In 1966, Myron moved his family to Denver where he worked various jobs while attending Electronic Technical Institute. In 1969, he was employed by the Santa Fe-Burlington Railroad as an electrician until his retirement in 2003, after 34 years of service.
Myron loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and walking. He also loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and working for the Lord at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Theralyne, daughters, Stacey (Troy) Norton of New Brunswick, Canada and Kim (Scott) Jordan of Westminster, Colo.; grandchildren, Karley (10) and Kate (7) of New Brunswick, Canada and Megan (12), Jacob (11) and Isaiah (9) of Westminster, Colo.; brother Ken (Joyce) Dull of Aurora, Colo. and sister Myrna (Harry) Rauch of Lewiston, Mont.; brother-in-law Don (Sue) Wilson of Gunnison, Colo.; sister-in-law, Terry (Greg) Nelson of Farmington, N.M. and nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents and nephew, Mike Dull, preceded him in death.

Lynn K. Whiteman
January 19, 1941 ~ August 2, 2006
Well-known Meeker resident Lynn K. Whiteman, 65, died Aug. 2, 2006, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.
Lynn Kenneth Whiteman was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Hayden, Colo., to George Kenneth and Berenice Whiteman. Soon thereafter, Lynn’s family bought a registered Hereford ranch between Craig and Hayden where Lynn grew up. He went on to graduate at the top of his class from Hayden High School where he excelled in football and basketball. After graduating from high school, Lynn attended Colorado State University where he was very involved in the governing body, was president of the FarmHouse Fraternity and member of the Livestock Club where he headed up the annual Little National Western; he also graduated as one of the highest engineering students in his class and was voted one of ten pacemakers at CSU.
While attending college, Lynn met and later married Marilynn Rickelton of Farmington, N.M., June 29, 1963. For the first three years of marriage, Lynn helped his father on the Whiteman ranch but then received a position as assistant vice president of the First National Bank in Glenwood Springs. At this time, Lynn and Marilynn had their first child, Ward Alan. Four years later, they moved to Meeker and Lynn became a partner and executive vice president of the First National Bank of Meeker. In 1972, Lynn and Marilynn bought their current ranch and had their second child, Carol Lynne. Lynn became self-employed as the managing broker for Western United Realty, Inc., and an independent appraiser and later became the owner and broker of Lynn K. Whiteman Realty and an independent fee appraiser.
Making Meeker his permanent home, Lynn was very active in the community. He served as member, director and president of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and was a member and president of the Meeker Lions Club. In addition, he served on the Range Call committee and announced the rodeo and directed the pageant. For eight years, Lynn also served as RE-1 school board member and for 11 years served on the board at Pioneers Hospital. Other boards he served on were the White River Electrical Association (past president), the White River Soil Conservation District, the State Conservation Board (past director).
Not only was Lynn active in civil duties, but he was a member of the United Methodist Church and held the positions of treasure and finance committee chairman in the church.
His contributions extended beyond Meeker as he announced the National Western Stock Show in Denver for 30 years and the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo for 33 years.
Truly, one of Lynn’s loves was the Meeker community and he was often heard saying, 'This is God’s country.' He loved the town, the surrounding area and the people. Another great love for Lynn was his family. His idea of a good time was supporting his kids in every activity they participated in. In his later years, he also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids fishing and reading stories, caring for his ranch home and landscape and planting and harvesting a garden.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marilynn. He is also survived by his son, Ward, and his wife, Karen and their two kids, Katherine and Logan of Midland, Texas; his daughter, Carol Lynne and her husband, Blair and their daughter Annalise of Arvada, Colo.; and his sister, Janet Fogale, of Sterling, Colo.
Lynn is preceded in death by his brother Larry Whiteman and his parents George and Berenice Whiteman.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 7 at the Meeker United Methodist Church. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may make memorial contributions to the Lynn Whiteman Memorial Fund at Mountain Valley Bank, the proceeds of which will benefit the Rio Blanco County 4-H Foundation, the Meeker United Methodist Church and the Meeker Streaker transportation system.

Dallas Goodrich
February 9, 1930 ~ August 3, 2006
Dallas Goodrich, 76, of Vernal, Utah, (formerly of Piceance Creek, Colo.) passed away at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City on Aug. 3, 2006.
Dallas was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Vernal, Utah, to Lyle Henry and Oral Anderson Goodrich. He married Norma Merkley May 31, 1947, in Vernal, Utah. She was the love of his life. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing July 27, 2000.
Dallas proudly worked his entire life in the oil field. He worked and lived on Piceance Creek, Colo., for 42 years with Equity Oil Company until his retirement. He moved back to Vernal in 2003. He was a hard worker and was accomplished at many self-taught trades. He was loved and respected by many and maintained many life-long friendships.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Norma, his son Raymond Lyle Goodrich, brothers, Dale Goodrich and Robert Lyle Goodrich.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Rhonda) of Vernal, Kathryn (Don) Cheshire of Vernal, Brently (Barbara) of Meeker, Colo., and Julia (John) Morgan of Kingman, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Lois (Lloyd) Wetenkamp of Vernal, Carolyn (Darold) Corners of Dolan Springs, Ariz. and Sharon (Curt) Smith of Meeker.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Vernal Christian Church, 1845 West 750 South, with Pastor Jim Pelley of Thayer, Kan. officiating. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
Forrest E. 'Bud' Norman
February 27, 1924 ~ July 28, 2006
Forrest E. 'Bud' Norman, 82, of Greeley, Colo., died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Kenton Manor Nursing Home in Greeley of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 27, 1924, to Howard and Emily (Rufenacht) Norman in Ness City, Kan. Norman was raised at his parents’ homestead in the Great Divide area and was graduated from high school in Craig, Colo. He then served in the U.S. Army. During a leave from the service he married Betty Lou Stevenson on Dec. 31, 1945. After his discharge, he came back to Craig until 1952. They moved to Rangely, Colo., and he was employed with Chevron until his retirement in 1985. They lived in Battlement Mesa until 2000 and then moved to Eaton, Colo., to be near his daughter and family. In his leisure time, he was an avid rock hunter who enjoyed metal detecting, hunting and fishing and just being outdoors 'puttering.'
He is survived by his daughter Rhanda Nusbaum of Wheatland, Wyo., four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Gale Norman of Craig, Colo.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou; son, Dannel Norman and his parents and a brother, Francis Norman.
Memorial services for Forrest will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Battlement Mesa Cemetery
in Parachute, Colo., with Pastor Mervin Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Bud’s family requests that a tree or shrub be planted in his memory in lieu of flowers.

Richard D. Gilstrap
August 24, 1928 ~ August 3, 2006
Richard Dean Gilstrap, 77, was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Burns, Colo., to John Kelso and Helen (Mason) Gilstrap. He passed away at Valley View Hospital Aug. 3, 2006.
Richard married Evelyn Siegmund Aug. 7, 1981. He had four children, Keith Gilstrap, Kathleen Gilstrap, Kelly Gilstrap (deceased) and a daughter who died at birth. Richard was a lifelong native of the area and loved to play golf and was a wonderful storyteller of family antics and jokes. He especially loved to tell stories of his youth and the Roaring Fork Valley and its residents. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Richard served two years in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Lions Club in Colorado and the Wyoming Petroleum Marketers Association. He was a member of Grace Bible Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest son, Kelly Gilstrap; his infant daughter and his brother, John Gilstrap.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Gilstrap; son, Keith Gilstrap; daughter, Kathleen Gilstrap; sisters, Shirley Anderson, and Lucylle Laukala; six grandchildren, Joshua and Whittney Gilstrap, Anna and Rachael Gilstrap and Dylan and Chelsea Webber.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Mountain View Church of Glenwood Springs, Colo. There was a reception following at Buffalo Valley Restaurant. A private family inurnment was held Wednesday, Aug. 9.
