Mildred "Millie" Gamble, 78, of Longmont, Colorado, died Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Longmont United Hospital.
She was born in Trenary in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on August 11, 1930. She was the youngest child of Eli Lampi, a Finnish immigrant, and his wife Sophie Noppa. She was valedictorian of her Eben (MI) high school class, received her Bachelors degree from Northern Michigan University, and her Masters degree from Colorado State University.
Millie was a lifelong educator, teaching English in both Michigan and Longmont schools. A 1985 recipient of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Education, she also served as Language Arts Coordinator for the St. Vrain Valley School District. Following her retirement, she worked for the Boulder County Commissioners, writing and editing the monthly Boulder County employee newsletter, County Comments, and interviewing and profiling honorees for the county's Circle of Honor award and publication. She worked in that capacity until she suffered a stroke in the Spring of 2007. In May of 2008, she witnessed her grandson, Aleksandr Gamble, graduate summa cum laude from the Colorado School of Mines and her grandson, Nathaniel Gamble, graduate from high school.
Millie was preceded in death by newborn son, Jeffrey in 1961 and oldest son, Kevin in 1963. She is survived by her sons, Brian Gamble and Daniel Gamble, both of Longmont, Brian's wife, Gaylene and their sons, Aleksandr and Nathaniel; a brother, Reynold Lampi of Marquette Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom love and miss her very much.
Arrangements are being handled by Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2008 at Harvest Church, 7493 Old Mill Trail, Boulder, CO 80301.

Evelyn Johnson JUDAY
Aug. 21, 1912 — Feb. 9, 2008
Evelyn, beloved mother and grandmother, died in Longmont, February 9, 2008. She was born August 21, 1912, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She married Chancey Juday in 1935 and they were able to celebrate over 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death.
They lived in Wisconsin before moving to Texas where they raised their family. Evelyn gave generously of herself to various civic and religious organizations, and was named Garland, Texas 'Woman of the Year.'
Evelyn is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Marcia Holland, Richard Juday and Roberta Brockhaus; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Evelyn and Chancey will be held in Garland, Texas, at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church, of which they were founding members, in June.

He was born in Denver, Colorado, to John B. Smith and Ruth Maxine Rountree.
He is survived by Wife, Ann; sons Troy, Wade & Kirk; grandchildren Gavin & Scott; great-grandchild Rhiannon; siblings Don, Carol & JoAnn.

Pauline AMEN
Feb. 8, 1924 — Feb. 14, 2008
Pauline AMEN, 84, of Loveland, Colorado passed away on February 14, 2008 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
Pauline was born on February 8, 1924 on a farm in LaSalle, CO, to Conrad and Katherine (Mitchell) Swetzig. She graduated from High School in Greeley, CO. Pauline married Jacob Amen on July 28, 1946 in Greeley. They had four children; Arlis, Steven, Bruce, and Jim. She lived in Mead, CO for 60 years before moving to Good Samaritan Village in Loveland in 2007.
During the children’s elementary school years, Pauline worked in the cafeteria for the Mead School Lunch Program and in 1966 began working at the Mead Post Office. In 1981 she transferred to the Loveland Post Office and retired in 1986.
Pauline was quite active, socially. She was a lifelong active member of the Mead United Methodist Church. She started the Senior Lunch Program and was President of the Ladies Aid. Pauline was a longtime member of the Longmont Moose Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob, three sons, two brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Arlis Dill and husband Allen of Loveland; special friend Clarence Schadegg of Glen Haven, CO; twin sister Helen Eberhardt of Long Beach, California; sister Doris Smith of Anaheim, California; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Mead United Methodist Church on February 20, 2008 at 9:30 a.m., prior to funeral services at 10:30 a.m. with a reception following. Interment services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.

Rhonda HERRMAN
Aug. 17, 1955 — Feb. 17, 2008
Rhonda HERRMAN of Longmont, Colorado died February 17, 2008, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 52.
Rhonda was born August 17, 1955, in Roanoke, Virginia to James Edward and Ruth (Mills) Clark. She grew up and attended school in Roanoke. Rhonda worked for mortgage companies in Roanoke for several years. She eventually worked also in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Denver before moving to Longmont in 2001.
Rhonda married Thomas Herrman on December 6, 1980, in Las Vegas. Since 2001, Rhonda has been a loan officer with the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union. She enjoyed hiking trails in the mountains and doing arts and craft projects. Rhonda became very involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helping with fundraising and other projects to raise awareness. She helped in projects to make blankets for this charity. Rhonda was a great person who had many friends and supporters. Her family, friends, and co-workers will miss her.
Rhonda is survived by her husband, Thomas of Longmont; her son, Thomas and his fiancé Angela Hernandez of Broomfield; her parents of Roanoke, Virginia; her three brothers and a sister: Kenny Clark and his wife Fay, Gary Clark and his wife Martha, James 'Duke' Clark and his wife Sue, and Shirley Boone and her husband Charles, all of Roanoke, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary for friends to greet the family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Howe Mortuary, with Roger Manning of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating. A reception will be held in the Howe Event Room following services. Rhonda will have additional services and burial in Roanoke later in the week.

Carol Jean SHEETZ

Carol Jean SHEETZ , 65, of Johnstown, Colorado died February 17, 2008, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado.
Carol was born December 26, 1942, in Mason City, Iowa to Dr. Roger L. and Elizabeth (Crowell) Downing. After graduating from Austin High School (Minnesota), she attended Northern Iowa Women’s College. On March 9, 1963, Carol married Gary E. Sheetz in Austin. They later divorced.
Mrs. Sheetz had worked for 24 years as a business process analyst for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While raising her children, Carol had been a tireless advocate for special needs programs and curriculum in the local school system. She also enjoyed bowling with her friends from Rockwell Collins.
In 2003, Carol moved to Colorado to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and the beautiful mountains she so loved. She enjoyed picnicking at Sprague and Bear Lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren, Kennedy and Lilly Sheetz, and John and Samuel Hayes.
Carol is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Downing of Austin, Minnesota; two sons, Mark Sheetz of Johnstown, Colorado, and Scott Sheetz and his wife, Kim, of Longmont, Colorado; and two daughters, Susan Hayes and her husband, James, of Broomfield, Colorado, and Shelley Sheetz of Woodland Hills, California. She is further survived by two brothers, Roger Downing, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Robert Downing and his wife, Patricia, of Oregon, Wisconsin; two sisters, Barbara Thorsell and her husband, Maj. John C., of Merced, California, and Deanna Ofstedahl and her husband, Dave, of Lansing, Minnesota; and a brother-in-law, Nolan Smith, of Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her father, and a sister, Betty Jo Smith.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Service, Longmont, Colorado. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel.

W.S. ‘Bill’ MACKLIN Jr.
March 16, 1932 — April 5, 2009
W.S. ‘Bill’ MACKLIN Jr. of Loveland, CO, died April 5, 2009. He was born March 16, 1932, in Dayton, OH, to William Sherman and Mildred D. (Leis) Macklin.
Graduating from Farmersville High School in 1950, he took one year of pre-law at Ohio State. He transferred to Devri/Deforest in Chicago, IL, and took a 9-month Radio/TV course before joining the Navy in 1953.
Bill taught radar in Norfolk, VA, during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, Bill joined IBM in Dayton, OH; then transferred to Poughkeepsie, NY, for training on the 7070 large mainframe computer. After training, Bill was transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, as a Customer Engineer. At WPAFB he met his wife, Patricia, who was working on the early IBM punched card machines. They married in June 1957 and were transferred to Cincinnati, OH; then a few months later to Chattanooga, TN. Bill was the IBM CE for TVA and the Military base in Tullahoma, TN. Bill transferred back to Poughkeepsie, NY, where he taught new IBM students and helped write the manual for the large mainframe 7070 computer. Bill’s 34-year career with IBM included being a customer engineer, teaching, service planning representative, and engineering before retiring in Colorado Springs, CO, in May 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia; his daughters Amy Spradlin of Tifton, GA and Vicki Sawyer of Boulder, CO; his son Chris Macklin of Asheville, NC; sister Claudia Seitsinger of NM; brother Bryan Macklin of FL; and 9 grandchildren in NC and GA.
Cremation to be completed.

Herbert Allen KELLY
Feb. 21, 1935 — Feb. 27, 2007
Herbert Allen KELLY, 72, of Longmont died Feb. 27, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was a gentle man who lost a well-fought, 13-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Huron, S.D., on Feb. 21, 1935, to Herbert Alexander Kelly and Marian Koehne Kelly.
Allen graduated from Sioux Falls High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1953. He earned a bachelor of science in geological engineering and a master’s degree in mining engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1959.
He met his beloved wife and best friend, Kay D. Klein, on a blind date. They first met in front of the Rapid City, S.D., public library. She was a perfect match to his keen intellect and sharp wit. It was easy for him to recognize her; she was standing in front of the library with a cello. Thus began a 50-year romance. They were married June 18, 1959, in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rapid City.
Allen’s work as a mining engineer brought his family all over the world. His career began in South America, first with the Cerro de Pasco Mining Co. in Peru and later in Sewell, Chile, with Braden Copper Co.
In 1965, Allen and his family returned to the United States where he became the general mine foreman of the Homestake Mining Co. in Lead, S.D. At the time, this was the largest underground gold and silver mine in the U.S.
In 1971, the family moved to Creede, where Allen was the general manager of the Bulldog Mountain Silver Mine. He was also a large presence in Eagle County, where he served as the last manager of New Jersey Zinc Co.’s lead, zinc, gold and silver mining operations and oversaw the daily management of the town of Gilman.
After most mining operations at Gilman ended, Allen and his family moved to southwest Virginia, where he was general manager of New Jersey Zinc’s mining operations at Austinville.
After retiring from mining, Allen went back to school at Wytheville Community College in Wytheville, Va., to become a medical laboratory technician. He worked in the medical field at Lewis Gale Clinic in Salem, Va., for nearly a decade before formally retiring to build a home in Spearfish, S.D. He volunteered as a census worker in Virginia and was a member of the Mining and Metallurgical Association.
Allen was a stamp collector and a member of the Longmont Stampers. He maintained a collection of geological specimens from around the world. He was a master tinkerer, a builder and an amazing gardener. Every garden he ever had was ringed by drifts of colorful zinnias.
He loved music, puzzles and reading history. He enjoyed learning throughout his life. His family and friends enjoyed the clever letters that he wrote on a 1957 Smith Corona typewriter.
A man of the earth, he always smelled of fresh soil, unsmoked tobacco and Doublemint gum. He had sparkling green eyes, a killer smile and a keen wit. He was so tall that his children, when they were small, believed he was a giant. His height made him an excellent basketball player. He loved the Denver Broncos and his big, red Dodge truck. He was enthralled by his son’s beehives and got a real kick out of his dogs, Max and Murphy. He loved to travel, especially to historical sites, which his children referred to as 'hysterical' sites. He also enjoyed sharing stories about his grandparents’ farm in Claremont, S.D.
Although the last months of his life were made especially difficult by Parkinson’s, he still was able to spend time with his beloved grandsons, building puzzles and looking at his rock collection. During that time, he also completed his personal memoirs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maribeth Kelly.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay, and their five children, Heather Collins and husband Andy of Walpole, N.H.; Ross Kelly and fiancée Ellen DeHaven of Moneta, Va.; Bret Kelly and wife Sarah of Christiansburg, Va.; Holly Cignarale and husband Joe of Greer, S.C.; and Dan Kelly of Kodiak, Alaska; six grandchildren, Will and Jay Collins, Katy Kelly, and Noah, Benjamin and Quinn Cignarale; his father-in-law, Richard Klein; his brother-in-law, Gary Klein; and his sisters-in-law, Connie Lehman of Longmont and Danna Garel of Sacramento, Calif.
A private family service will be held.

Jeffrey George Gregg

Jeffrey George Gregg, 46, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Longmont, Colorado, passed away October 8, 2008.
Jeff was born May 27, 1962, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to George Rood Gregg, Jr. and Audriene Lou "Audi" (Amandus) Gregg. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School and later earned a degree in Business Administration from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
On September 22, 1984, Jeff married Jimme Lyn Barnhart in Lamar, Colorado.
Mr. Gregg worked in land management, securing permits and purchases for Hall-Irwin Corporation for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Jimme of Longmont; daughter, Trisha Lyn Gregg of Hays, Kansas; son, Drew Gregg, of Longmont; sister, Cathy Picket and her husband, Steven, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and his nieces, Cori Pickett of Brighton, and Melissa Pickett of Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont. Shan Moyers of LifeBridge Christian Church will officiate.

Lela M. CONWAY
March 7, 1920 — July 24, 2007
Lela M. CONWAY of Firestone died July 24, 2007 at her home. She was 87.
She was born March 7, 1920 in Marshall, CO to Joseph and Rebecca (Dhieux) Warembourg. She moved to Frederick at the age of 2 and is one of the oldest residents of Tri-Town.
She graduated from Frederick schools.
She married Elmer A. Conway on June 14, 1940 in Castle Rock and they celebrated their 67th anniversary in 2007.
Lela worked at Russell Stover Candies in Denver for twenty years until 1980 and then at Frederick Elementary School for five years.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and DAV Auxiliary. Lela enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lela was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Donna Madden in 2001 and two brothers, Paul Warembourg and James Warembourg.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer A. Conway of Firestone; her son, Allen James Conway and his wife Kathy of Frederick; a brother, Joseph Warembourg and his wife Edna of Longmont; four grandchildren, Kevin Hepp and his wife Cheree of Westminster, Kim Lee and her husband Troy of Thornton, Jeff Conway and his wife Richelle of Mead and Jaime Bradt and her husband Chuck of Frederick; six great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Breanna Lee of Thornton, Paul Hepp of Westminster, Jaylyn and Jacoby Conway of Mead, Madison Bradt of Frederick and a sister-in-law, Darlene Warembourg of Littleton. Also survived by Jack and Tommy Conway, Marie Gabriella and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow visitation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Private inurnment will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
