Audra Lee Buzzard
November 9, 1913 - May 5, 2004
OLATHE - Longtime Olathe resident, Audra Lee Buzzard, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. She was 90 years old.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15th at the Olathe Cemetery. James Gall will preside.
Audra Lee Pemberton was born on November 9, 1913 in Chilhowee, Missouri to the late Samuel and Orlena May (Irvine) Pemberton. She spent her childhood in Chilhowee and graduated from Chilhowee High School.
Audra married Merl Buzzard on June 12, 1938 in Moab, Utah. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1989 in Olathe.
Mrs. Buzzard was a bookkeeper. She had resided in Delta, Colorado before moving to Olathe in 1938, where she had lived until the time of her death. She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Olathe. Her interests included arrowhead hunting and flower gardening.
Survivors include three sisters: Stella Benezette and her husband Ben of Downing, CA, and Helen Ficke and Sammy Pemberton, both of Chilhowee, MO; a brother - in - law, Bill McIntire of Olathe; one grandson and his wife, Todd and Barbara Harris of Breckenridge, CO; and one great granddaughter, Casandra Lynn Harris.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kinney; a brother, Leland Pemberton; a sister, Evanell McIntire; and a grandson, John Harris.
Memorials may be made to the Chilhowee Baptist Church, Chilhowee, MO 64733.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Ruth L. (Hawkins)Rowell
October 29, 1921 - May 10, 2004
PAONIA - Lifelong Delta County resident, Ruth L. (Hawkins) Rowell, died Monday, May 10, 2004 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 82.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15th at Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado. Pastor Gaylen Kinser will preside.
Ruth L. Hawkins was born on October 29, 1921 in Tongue Creek, Delta County, Colorado to the late John Wilburn and Cora E. (Adams) Hawkins. She spent her childhood in Tongue Creek and attended school there.
Ruth married Ben Rowell on June 29, 1940 in Moab, Utah. He survives.
Mrs. Rowell was a Christian. She was extremely dedicated to her family and enjoyed traveling with Ben when he was working as a logger. In her younger years, she was very active with the PTA. Her interests included reading, sewing, gardening and crocheting.
Survivors grateful to have shared in Ruth’s life include her husband of nearly 64 years, Ben Rowell of Paonia; three daughters: Catherine “Kitty” Lange and husband Linvall of Grand Junction, CO, Anna Jean Schmidt and husband Donald of Hotchkiss, CO and Dorothy Richardson and husband Carl of Montrose, CO; one son, Ron Rowell and wife Deb of Paonia; three sisters: Dora Ashurst of Eckert, CO, Margaret McNutt of Gresham, OR and Esther Barrett and her companion Bo of Montrose; two brothers: Charlie Hawkins and wife Margaret of Cedaredge and John Hawkins and wife Kathleen of Redlands Mesa, CO.
Ruth is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, with two on the way and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters: and four brothers: Helen, May, Hazel, Floyd, Bruce, Roy and Kenneth.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Fork Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 127, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Jewell R. Dunn
July 9, 1911 - May 3, 2004
GRAND JUNCTION - Longtime Delta county resident, Jewell R. Dunn, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 92.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Jewell R. Chaffin was born on July 9, 1911, to David K. and Elizabeth (Sliger) Chaffin in Garlington, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood on a farm at Boise City, Oklahoma. Jewell attended school in Garlington and graduated from the eighth grade. She went on to attend school in Boise City, Oklahoma. She spent thirteen years in Griggs, Oklahoma, before moving to Hotchkiss, Colorado, in 1949. She then moved to Delta where she spent fifteen years before moving to Grand Junction Care Center to be closer to her daughter.
Jewell married Floyd C. Dunn on June 22, 1930, in Gymon, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in March of 1974, in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Mrs. Dunn, a homemaker, stayed busy raising her family and then in later years she worked at various jobs. She attended the Church of Christ in Lazear. Jewell belonged to the Bone Mesa Garden Club. Her interests included playing cards, dominoes, and gardening.
Those grateful to have shared in Jewell’s life include her two daughters: Bernita Dove and her husband Donald of Grand Junction, CO, and Betty Klaseen and her husband Charles of Crawford, CO; three sons: Kay Dunn and his wife Mary of Price, UT, Kenneth Dunn of Lake Charles, LA, and Emmett Dunn and his wife Pauline of Delta, CO; one brother, Elmer Chaffin and his wife Mable of Hopeton, OK; and one daughter - in - law, Shirley Deutsch of Delta She is further survived by 22 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; two sons: Keith and Kendall Dunn, four sisters, one brother and one grand - son, Kendall.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Adolph “Cappy” Kocjancic
February 2, 1916 - May 4, 2004
PAONIA - Lifetime Paonia resident, Adolph “Cappy” Kocjancic, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center in Paonia. He was 88.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 12th at the Wilson Head American Legion Post No. 97 in Paonia. James Gall will preside with members of the Legion and the United Mine Workers No. 6417 performing honors. Services will conclude at the Legion.
Adolph Kocjancic was born on February 2, 1916 in Fostoria, Texas to the late Anton and Mary (Sot) Kocjancic. He spent his childhood in Somerset, Colorado and attended school there and in Paonia.
“Cap” married Charlene Carville on November 17, 1963 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She survives.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, “Cap” served his country in World War II. He retired as a coal miner from U.S. Steel in Somerset after working for over 37 years in the mining industry. He was a 58 year member of the Wilson Head American Legion in Paonia, a 53 year member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807, in Hotchkiss and a member of the United Mine Workers No. 6417 for nearly 60 years. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing and umpiring baseball. He loved watching sports on television and was a die hard Cubs fan. Other interests included carpentry work at home and working in his yard.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Kocjancic of Paonia; two daughters, Toni Kocjancic of Denver, CO and Dawn Kocjancic of Alamosa, CO; and one brother, William Kocjancic of Pensacola, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Wilson Head American Legion No. 97, P.O. Box 306, Paonia, CO 81428 or the Paonia Care and Rehab Center, 1625 Meadowbrook Blvd., Paonia, CO 81428.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Frank O. Cross
September 4, 1928 - April 27, 2004
DELTA - Lifelong Delta resident, Frank Cross, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 75.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2004, at the Delta City Cemetery in Delta, Colorado. Ron Howard will officiate. Burial will follow at the Delta City Cemetery.
Frank Orville Cross was born on September 4, 1928, to James Heman and Louisa Melvina (Ray) Cross in Delta, Colorado. He spent his early childhood in Delta and attended schools there. Frank spent a short period of time in Wichita, Kansas, and also California, before returning to Delta. Frank served his country in the United States Army.
Frank married Donna F. Goodson in Wichita, Kansas, on February 29, 1956. She survives.
Mr. Cross had been employed by the City of Delta, where he worked in their water department until his retirement.
His many interests included reading, fishing, and hunting.
Those grateful to have shared in Frank’s life include his wife, Donna Cross of Delta, CO; two sons: Frank Cross of Delta, CO, and Jim Cross and Victoria Miller of Delta, CO; two daughters: Donna Foxx and her husband John of Delta, CO, and Ginger Chavez of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Keith Cross and his wife Gladys of Smithriver, CA. He is further survived by seven grandchildren: Amber Stone, Waylon Cross, Tyrell Cross, Jordan Foxx, Breanna Cross, and Caleb Miller all of Delta, Co, Crystal Chavez and Jaime Chavez both of Los Angeles, CA.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Willard Cross; and four sisters: Gladys Lugard, Hazel Talbott, Ruby Sisson, and Patty Stewart.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Florence L. Young
May 10, 1925 - April 26, 2004
HOTCHKISS - North Fork area resident, Florence L. Young passed away on Monday, April 26, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 78.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, April 30th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Chapel with Pastor Phil Neely officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford.
Florence Lorene Curtis was born on May 10, 1925, to James R. and Elsie Marie (Hardrick) Curtis in Meeker, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood in Norwood and Pueblo, Colorado. She graduated with the class of 1943 from Centennial High School in Pueblo. After spending several years in Colorado Springs, she and her husband moved to Hotchkiss in 1990.
Florence married Ivan Ronald Young on January 26, 1957, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He preceded her in death in November 21, 1995, in Delta.
Mrs. Young, a homemaker, also owned the West Elk Inn in Hotchkiss. She was a member of the Assembly of God. Her interests included reading, watching home movies, traveling, and seeing the world.
Those grateful to have shared in Florence’s life include her mother, Elsie Curtis of Eckert, CO; one son, Larry Wayne Snow of Pahrump, NV; a daughter, A. Darlene Spears and her husband Stomper of Grand Junction, CO; and a brother, Gene Curtis and his wife Lorraine of Crawford, CO. She is further survived by two grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; her father, James Curtis; two brothers: Lloyd Curtis and Dale Curtis; and a sister, Gerry Galbraith.
Memorial contributions may be made in Florence’s memory to the First State Bank of Hotchkiss, P.O. Box 38, 81419, to be used for families needing help to pay medical bills.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Larry E. Hensler
August 9, 1937 - April 23, 2004
CEDAREDGE - Surface Creek resident, Larry Hensler, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 66.
No services are being planned at this time.
Larry Edison Hensler was born on August 9, 1937, to Edgar and Celia (Hunter) Hensler in Radcliff, Ohio. He spent his childhood in Columbus, Ohio, and attended school there. In 1976, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he resided until 2002, when he and his wife moved to Cedaredge.
Larry married Iris Burrows on June 1, 1963, in Oxford, England. They celebrated forty years of marriage this past year. She survives.
Mr. Hensler worked as an electrical contractor. He served his country in the United States Marines and also in the Air Force. Larry enjoyed fishing. The love of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Larry’s life include his wife, Iris Hensler of Cedaredge, CO; a son, Bill Hensler and his wife Rhonda of California; a daughter, Leann Jiron and her husband Curtis of Cedaredge, CO; a sister, Betty Van Allen and her husband Joe of Ohio.
He is further survived by five grandchildren; and very dear friends, Pat and Chuck Wein of Phoenix, AZ.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Grace Harding
December 13, 1938 - April 24, 2004
DELTA - Delta county resident, Grace Harding, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004, the result of an automobile accident in Utah. She was 65.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Grace Kunes was born on December 13, 1938, to Emil and Beulah (Vroman) Kunes at Ravenna, Nebraska. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1956. She resided in Gering, Nebraska, and Baggs, Wyoming, before moving to Delta in 1984.
Grace married Doyle Harding on May 25, 1957, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They would have celebrated 47 years of marriage together in May. He survives.
Grace and Doyle owned and operated motels. She was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church. Grace enjoyed golfing, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing. The love of her life was her family and being able to go and do fun things with them.
Those grateful to have shared in Grace’s life include her husband, Doyle Harding of Delta, CO; two daughters: Shelli Harding of Lakewood, CO, and Cricket Fraser and her husband Kirk of Delta, CO; three sisters: Mila Gappa of Reseda, CA, Emily Nelson and her husband Andy of Gibbon, NE, and Waunita McGaugh of El Dorado, AK. She is further survived by six grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Beulah Kunes; a son, Mitch Harding; and a sister, Sonia Granger.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Zena Altha Constans
October 3, 1910 - April 22, 2004
Washington - Former longtime Delta, CO resident Zena Constans, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington. She was 93.
A funeral service for Zena is planned for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Burial will take place at Memory Gardens of Farmington in Farmington, New Mexico.
Zena Altha Hughes was born on October 3, 1910 to the late John and Altha (Blackburn) Hughes in Delta, Colorado. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Delta.
In 1955 in Reno, Nevada, Zena married Fred J. Constans. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Zena moved from Delta at the age of 38, and moved back to Delta at the age of 62. Zena had been a resident of Anchorage, Alaska where she worked for a newspaper. She also lived in Sacramento and in Richmond, California during the war.
Mrs. Constans was a member of the Federated Women’s Club in Delta and served as its president in 1982; was past president of Federated Women’s Club of the Western Slope; belonged to Royal Neighbors and the Kathryn Rebekah’s Lodge; also the Tired and Retired Club. Zena was a dress maker, and also worked in the ship yard as a certified welder. She enjoyed crocheting, dress making, sewing, knitting, and reading detective stories.
Survivors include a niece, Ladwina Dalla of Spokane, WA.
Zena was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sister, Rena Wassinger.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delta Museum, 251 Meeker Street, Delta, CO, 81416.
