GRASMICK

David Gasmick, 50, of La Junta, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at his home.
At his request cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1958 in San Juan Capitola, Calif. to Conrad and Florence (Desing) Grasmick.
He is survived by his brothers Karl (Betty) Grasmick and John Desing; sisters Anna Grasmick and Connie Crowder.
He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

HALL

Ruth E. Hall, 85, retired Boeing manufacturing expediter, died Feb. 7, 2008.
Graveside inurnment will be Friday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Terilynn Russ officiating.
She is survived by her daughter Kay Oberst; brother Melvin Stephenson; sister Thelma Stonebreaker; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons Howard and Kenneth Hall.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of services.

Kern

Funeral services for Ruby Bernice Kern, 80, of Fowler, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fowler United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeanne Redshaw officiating.
Burial was in the Las Animas Cemetery.
Mrs. Kern died at her home on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

She was born in Las Animas, on Feb. 17, 1928, the daughter of Carl and Edna Bernice Cooper Rice.
She married Ashley Baublits and they were later divorced.

She married Charley Kern in Denver on Sept. 2, 1977.
For many years she was employed at the offices of Colorado Fish and Game Division for the State of Colorado.

They moved to Fowler in May of 2002 from Montrose.
The Kerns were members of the Fowler United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charley of the family home; one daughter, Fayre L. (Jack) Ruszczyk of Colorado Springs; a stepdaughter, Sharlie (Rick) Morel of Denver, two grandchildren, Alexandra (Peter) Corrigan and Nicholas Ruszczyk, of Littleton, a brother, William “Bill” (Linda) Rice of Keystone Heights, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Carla in 1996.

Family prefers memorials to her church or to the Diabetes Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler had charge of arrangements.

LAINO

Michael A. Laino Jr., 51, of Topeka, Kan., died April 11, 2008 following an extended illness.
At his request there was cremation.
No services will be held and his ashes will be interred in La Junta at a later date.

Mr. Laino was born Dec. 16, 1956, in La Junta to Mike and Joan Laino.

He graduated from La Junta High School in 1975. He worked for the city of La Junta prior to joining Santa Fe Railroad in the mechanical department.
He was transferred to Topeka in 1988 to work for the BNSF Railway.
He had 25 years of service with the railroad.

He is survived by his sisters Lynda (Jim) Urioste of La Junta and Patty (Lyn) Hartley of Lenexa, Kan.; aunt Frances Roe of Buena Vista; uncle Philip and aunt Barbara Laino of Worchester, Mass.; brother-in-law Ben Owensby of Denver; nieces Kimberly (Nick) Urioste Cordova of Denver, Nikki Hartley of Dallas, Texas; nephews Jimmy Urioste Jr. of Colorado Springs, Bennie Owensby Jr. of Denver, Brian Owensby of La Junta, Chris Hartley of Highlands Ranch; three great-nieces, one great-nephew and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Joan Laino, sister Donna Owensby and uncle Marvin Roe.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Topeka Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603.

Smith

Funeral services for Bertha Smith, 94, longtime Fowler resident, will be held Saturday, April 26 2008, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fowler.
Interment will be at Fowler Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Fowler Elementary School All-Purpose Room.
Mrs. Smith died at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, Minn., on April 20, 2008.

She was born Bertha Stjernholm on March 12, 1914, the second of nine children, at the family home south of Fowler to Rasmus and Kirstine Stjernholm.
She attended Fowler schools graduating valedictorian of her class in 1932. She taught school at Nepesta, Rocky Ford, and 17 years for Fowler School District.

She married Grady Smith, on Sept. 8, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler.
Together they farmed around Fowler and purchased their own farm two miles west of Fowler.

She was active in the Fowler community especially helping with her church, choir, Number Six Club, Unity Club, Women’s Club, 4-H, and the Missouri Day art show.

In 1987, Mr. and Mrs. Smith sold their farm and moved to Pueblo.
They lived there and became active members of King of Kings Lutheran Church.
She resided at the Alterra Assisted Living Residency and the Life Care Center in Pueblo until 2006 when she moved to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Dr. Thomas R. (Karen) Smith, Pueblo, five daughters, Mary Beth (William) Asselin, Clovis, Calif.; Katherine (Wayne) Hahn, Paxton, Neb.; Joanne (Stanley) Rasmussen, Austin, Minn.; Kirstine (Rick) Mitchell, Osan AFB, South Korea; and Gail (Brian) Anderson, Berthoud; 14 grandchildren; brother, Dr. Thomas Stjernholm, Pueblo and Westminster and sister, Kirstine Stjernholm, Pueblo; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Grady Smith, grandson, David Smith, parents, Rasmus and Kirstine Stjernholm, brothers, Christian, Richard and Jack Stjernholm, and sisters, Else Hazlett, Edith Kimble and Elise Stjernholm.

JONES

Raymond L. Jones, 73, of La Junta, passed away on May 9, 2008 at the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 13 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church with Wayne Cathey officiating.
Raymond was born on June 11, 1934, in La Junta to Shirley & Veda (Erickson) Jones.
He married Lynn Reed on Aug. 29, 1958 in La Junta.
Raymond enjoyed taking care of his animals and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife Lynn of the La Junta home; daughter, Raelynn Darnell of Denver; sons, Clinton Ray Jones of La Junta and Justin Dale Jones of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Leon (Clara) Jones of Penrose, CO, Larry (Beverly) Jones of Dodge City, KS, Jerry (Joanne) Jones of Ft. Morgan, CO, and Gary (Jeanette) Jones of La Junta; grandchildren, Stephanie & Brock Darnell and Amanda Jones; and a great-grandson, Dakota Walker. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Curtis & Orville Jones.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Fisher House (a home provided at no cost to veteran’s family), 1055 Clermont Street, Denver, CO, 80220, (www.denver fisherhouse.org) direct or through the funeral home.

WHITE

Patricia Kathleen White, 53, of La Junta and formerly of Denver, died May 24, 2008, in Rocky Ford.
At her request, no services will be held.
She is survived by her children Richard Paul White, Danyall White and Maureen White, brothers Richard and Douglas Willis, grandchildren Jonathan and Richie MacKay, Airianna Thomas and Gary Montgomery, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Maureen Peavler, and one brother.
Johnson-Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richert

Marjorie Richert, of Grand Junction died at St. Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday May 21, 2008.
She was age 88.
Marjorie was born October 15, 1919 in Denver, CO, to William and Cora (Brandt) Perry.
She spent her childhood at La Junta and graduated from La Junta High School.
Marjorie spent only one year at college because of lack of finances.
She then married Olin Richert in Raton, New Mexico in 1952.
She was widowed on June 27, 1984.

Olin and Marjorie spent their winters in the San Diego area after his retirement in 1975.
Marjorie was a member of St. Mathews Episcopal Church.
She also served on the board of Roice-Hurst Humane Society in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
During WWII she worked in a bullet factory in Denver.
Marjorie had exceptional taste in fashion. She loved jazz and was an avid reader.
Marjorie always told her daughters that she hoped that they would evolve into good citizens of the universe and make it a better place.
Her two daughters, Patricia Hubbard and Beverly Richert of Grand Junction, CO survive Marjorie.
She had two grand dogs Buddie and Keogh.
There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Richert on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 3:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado at P. O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or to Roice-Hurst Humane Society at 3320 D ½ Road, Clifton, CO 81520, and or the Colorado Boys Ranch at 28071 State Hwy 109, La Junta, CO 81050.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.

DUDLEY

David F. Dudley, III, 43, of La Junta passed away on May 29 at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will also be Wednesday, June 4th at 4 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Father Jude Egbuna officiating.
David was born on February 22, 1965 in Germany to David & Micheline (Legras) Dudley, Jr.
He married Alice F. Duggan on July 12, 2002 in La Junta.
David was a loving father, husband, son and brother.
He was a hard worker and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife Ali of the La Junta home; children Mary Dudley of La Junta; Gordon & Gavin Dudley of Ebensburg, PA; parents David & Micheline Dudley, Jr. of La Junta; brothers Gabe (Lore) Dudley of Farmington, NH; James (Mary Frances) Dudley of La Junta; Frank (Candi) Dudley of La Junta; grandmother Florence Elizabeth Dudley of Groton, Vermont; several nieces and nephews survive.
He was preceded in death by his two grandparents and a grandfather and his nephew Austyn Dudley.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 North Tejon Street # 201, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903 direct or through the funeral home.
