Kauffman
Anna M. (Martin) Kauffman passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 in La Junta.
A service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at the East Holbrook Mennonite Church in Cheraw.

WHITE
William Gerald White, a native of La Junta, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 in St. George, Utah.
He was born January 29, 1926 in La Junta to Carl Greene and Hattie Elizabeth Foster White. He and Genevieve Marie Hartzler were married in 1948 in Pueblo.
At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in several South Pacific campaigns as a Radioman 2nd Class during World War II. He entered Otero Junior College upon his honorable discharge. Between school years, Mr. White worked summers on road survey crews to support his young family. His higher education was completed at the University of Colorado, there earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. As a Civil Engineer, Mr. White was employed by the Federal Highway Administration for 33 years, primarily in the New Mexico District Office in Santa Fe.
Upon retirement in February, 1980, he and his wife of 56 years traveled throughout the United States, enjoying square dancing, boating, and fishing. The White's moved to St. George in 2000.
Mr. White is survived by his wife, Genevieve; two sons, William and Doug; four grandchildren, Thomas, April, William, and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Travis, Alex, and Amanda; and two brothers, Durwood and Keith. A memorial service is planned for the end of the month at the Santa Fe National Cemetery
where his cremated remains will be interred. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT, (435) 673-2454.

MENDEZ
Funeral services were held this (Monday) morning in Pueblo for Paul L. Mendez, 64, of Pueblo. Mr. Mendez died Aug. 5, 2004
He was born June 8, 1940 in Hoehne. Mr. Mendez worked for years with youth through the probation department Chins Up and Youth Ventures. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, working for the betterment of youth and the enrichment of his community, Eastwood Heights.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Mendez; son Kevin D. Mendez; daughters Kelly (Anthony) Garcia and Karen (Steve) Ortiz; his mother, Ophelia Mendez; brothers Joe (Linda), Richard (Roseanne), Ray (Bertha), Steve (Lita), Rodney Mendez, Kenneth Casados, sisters Sylvia (Jack) Valdez, Cathy (Leroy) Bueno, Priscilla (Donnie) Castro, Patricia (Leonard) Cruz, Patricia Santos and six grandchildren. Mr. Mendez was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Mendez, parents-in-law John and Beatrice Casados, grandchildren Bryan Marcus Ortiz and Sarah Marie Garcia.

KAUFFMAN
Memorial services for Anna M. Martin Kauffman, 81 will be Thursday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. at the East Holbrook Mennonite Church in Cheraw. A fellowship meal will follow. Mrs. Kauffman died Aug. 5, 2004 in La Junta.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio on Nov. 17, 1922 to Omar and Glenora Swartzendruber, one of four children. She married H. James Martin on Dec. 26, 1947 and he died in 1987. She married Daniel E. Kauffman on Nov. 29, 1991 and he currently resides in Indiana.
Mrs. Kauffman served in mission field in Uruguay for 25 years alongside her husband, James. She resided in La Junta three different times during her life, from 1969 to 1977 and her husband was the minister at the First Mennonite Church and East Holbrook Mennonite Church. During this time she worked in the hospital business office. In 1987 after the death of her first husband she moved back to La Junta until 1991 and then married Dan Kauffman. She recently returned to this area due to declining health.
She was a very creative person who enjoyed making quilts and more recently making rugs.
Mrs. Kaufman is survived by her children, Judith A. Martin of Berkely, Calif., Janet A. (Randy) Shank of Broadway, Va., B. Elaine (Dr. Lee) Schmucker of La Junta, J. David (Peggy) Martin of Cheraw and Daniel L. Martin of La Junta; stepchildren Daniel E. Kauffman Jr. of Snag Harbor, Va., Debra (Moe) Miller of Decater, Ga., Sally (Joe) Green of Cranberry Township, Pa., and Jim (Sally) Kauffman of Taladega, Ala; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and three siblings: Ruth (LaVern) Graber of Wayland, Iowa, Earl (Verna) Swartzendruber of Baltimore, Md., and Elwood Swartzendruber of Havelock, N.C. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents and three siblings: Paul M. Swartz, Ed Swartzendruber and Ronald Swartzendruber.

SALAS
Funeral Mass for Rosario Salas, 67, of Rocky Ford will be on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford with Father Paul Montez officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mr. Salas died Aug. 6, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta.
He was born Oct. 6, 1936 at Vroman to Thomas and Soledad (Baca) Salas. He married Mary Ann Gallegos on June 21, 1975 in Rocky Ford. He was a truck driver, which he loved tremendously. He was also a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford.
Mr. Salas is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the family home in Rocky Ford; children Patricia (Robert Gonzales) Salas of Denver, Debbie (Omar) Velazco of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna (Berry) White of New Jersey and Mona (Ronnie) Apodaca of La Junta; step-children Beverly (Ed) Archuleta of Las Animas, Ruby (Joby) Gallegos of Colorado Springs, Reuben (Arlene) Montanez of Denver, Andy (Laura) Montanez of Rocky Ford, Artie Montanez of Colorado Springs and Roger Montanez of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Joshua Rodriquez who lives with his grandparents and 14 additional grandchildren as well as one great-grandchild. He is also survived by sisters Mary Salas and Mary Florez. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sylvester Salas.

OUELLETTE
Michael Ouellette, 41, of Yoder and well known among the rodeo community, died Sunday, Aug. 15, in Yoder. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Aug. 18) at the Living Word Church in Calhan. He was born Feb. 1, 1963 in Concordia, Kan. to Alamore and Patty (Predmore) Ouellette. He attended Clifton-Clyde High School and graduated from Fort Hays State with an ag-business administration degree. Mr. Ouellette married Lycrecia Hill on June 13, 1987. He was a devoted father who loved to rodeo, go hunting and camping, tell and play jokes and was known for working long, hard hours.
He is survived by his wife and children Tyrell, Tonnica and Tennille of the home; his mother, Patty Ouellette; five sisters: Kathleen (Larry) Koehn of Wichita, Kan., Karen (Tim) Stefek of Ellsworth, Kan., Reeta (Keith) McCumber of Salina, Kan.; Deneen (Greg) Barnes of Clifton, Kan. and Geri (Kenton) Bogart of Concordia, Kan; and a brother, Marlin (Jeanette) Ouellette of Clyde, Kan. He was preceded in death by his father, Alamore, and his brother, Carl.

ROMERO
Memorial services for Monica B. Romero, 62, of Rocky Ford will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the Apostolic Assembly Church, 4th and Sycamore in Rocky Ford, with Bernie Vigil officiating. She died Aug. 23, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta.
She was born May 4, 1942 at Camargo, Mexico to Frenando and Felizitas (Galvan) Bustamante. She married Tino Romero on Sept. 19, 2000 at Trinidad. Mrs. Romero was a home maker who loved to go to yard sales, collect ceramic roosters and angels, cook and travel. She was a member of the Apostolic Assembly Church in Rocky Ford.
Mrs. Romero is survived by her husband, Tino, of Rocky Ford; children Maria Gallardo of Denver, Juan Bustamante of Sunland Park, N.M., Artemio Lopez of Mexico, Monica Barrera of Denver, Lorena Lopez of Denver, Cecilia Hernandez of Trinidad, Vielka Lopez of Iowa and Carlos Munos of Denver; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as a special nephew, Fernando Bustamante of Trinidad. She was preceded in death by her parents.

HATCH
Funeral services for Helen M. Hatch, 82, of Rocky Ford will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the First Christian Church in Rocky Ford with Rev. John Dell officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery
in Rocky Ford. She died Aug. 24, 2004 at Pioneer Health Care Center in Rocky Ford.
She was born on Oct. 10, 1921 at Rocky Ford to S.O. Pat and Lucy (Merrill) Head. She married Leo Hatch in Rocky Ford on March 29, 1959. Mrs. Hatch attended schools in Rocky Ford and spent her whole life in Rocky Ford. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered at the Fort Lyon Medical Center church. She worked at Hollar Seed Company for many years. After retirement she could be seen anywhere one of her grandchildren might be. She attended hundreds of wrestling tournaments, swim meets, choir and band concerts, plays, basketball and baseball games. If she wasn't following her grandchildren she enjoyed crocheting, reading, bowling and being outdoors. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hatch is survived by her children, Jim (Evette) Frentress of Rocky Ford, Connie (Carey) Suto of Rocky Ford, Vicki (Tom) Trumble of La Junta and Bonnie Lamm of Colorado Springs; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one granddaughter, two sisters, three brothers and one son-in-law.

CRANSON-YODER
Funeral services for Barbara Jo Cranson-Yoder, 75, who recently came to Rocky Ford from Fort Collins due to declining health, will be Saturday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in La Junta with Rev. M.J. Romano officiating. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home in La Junta. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. She died Aug. 24, 2004 at Pioneer Health Care Center in Rocky Ford.
She was born Dec. 13, 1928 in La Junta to Nathan Walter and Ethyl Elizabeth (Harris) Cranson. She attended La Junta schools, graduating with the class of 1947. She attended Colorado State University, graduating with a degree in education in 1952. She taught school in Roy, N.M. and La Junta. She married Junior Alvin "Jay" Yoder on June 15, 1952 in La Junta. Mrs. Cranson-Yoder was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Junta and attended the Nazarene Church in Fort Collins as her health permitted.
She is survived by a sister, Ada Beth (Kenneth) Finkner of La Junta; brothers Walt (Midge) Cranson of La Junta and Donald Cranson of Greeley; sister-in-law Mary Cranson of La Junta; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, two sisters, Shirley and Mary Genevieve, and two brothers, Lee and Cal Cranson.

TORREZ
Funeral Mass for Alvaro J. "Joe" Torrez, 74, of La Junta will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Church in La Junta with Father Charles Sena officiating and interment in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Mr. Torrez died Aug. 24, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 19, 1930 in La Junta to Antonio and Felisitas (Jacinto) Torrez. Mr. Torrez served in the U.S. Army. He married Stella Chavez on Sept. 15, 1956 in Vaughn, N.M. He worked at Western Foods as a machine operator for 35 years. Mr. Torrez was a dedicated Bronco fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife, Stella, of their La Junta home; sons Tony (Susan) Torrez, Henry Torrez, Robert Torrez, Martin (Deleana) Torrez, Steve (Aggie) Torrez and Alfred Torrez, all of La Junta, and Joseph Torrez of Denver; daughters Becky (Bill) Lail of Kansas, Kathy (Ruben Becerra) Torrez of La Junta and Christine "Tina" (Henry Vialpando) Torrez of Denver; one brother, Rocky Torrez of Texas; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Torrez was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Patricia N. Torrez in 1983, and two sisters, Mary Lopez and Pauline Ramirez.

Dulcia A. Grim, 92, of La Junta died Aug. 30, 2004 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Grim was previously of Coolidge, Kan.

SIGLER
A celebration of the life of long-time area rancher Wilbur Eugene Sigler, 86, of Boone will be held Monday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at Fowler Christian Church with the Rev. Don Sniff officiating. He died Aug. 31, 2004 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. He was born March 13, 1918 in Boone to John Bland and Mary Cecil Collins/Nix Sigler. Mr. Sigler married Lorraine Clark on July 25, 1944 - they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was involved in ranching all his life and is also a veteran of WWII.
Mr. Sigler is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of the family home; three sons, Bill (Cindy) Sigler of Albuquerque, N.M., Jim (Shelley) Sigler of Boone and Tim (Vickie) Sigler of Nepesta; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FLAIR
Funeral services for Olive Flair, 91, of Caņon City and a longtime La Junta resident and business owner, will be Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta with the Rev. Steven Heirs of the New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Flair died Sept. 1, 2004 in Caņon City.
Born Nov. 15, 1912 in Shannon County, Mo. to James H. and Nellie (Scoville) Brown, she married R.J. "Johnny" Flair in Springfield, Mo. on July 1, 1932. Mrs. Flair was the owner of Flair Craft, a ceramics store in North La Junta. She enjoyed many years of teaching young people and adults about ceramics. She and her husband moved to Caņon City following the loss of their home in the flood. Mrs. Flair had always wished to return to La Junta. She had been very active in local business women's clubs.
Mrs. Flair is survived by her daughters, Janelle (Dick) Patchen of Caņon City and Marilyn (Frank) Hanson of Anchorage, AK.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died Dec. 29, 2001.

ARNOLD
Dorothy Mae Arnold, 78, formerly of La Junta, will be remembered during a catered family dinner a her family home, 8723 Fernwood St. NE (Johnson Point) in Olympia, Wash. Saturday, Sept. 4 noon to 4 p.m. Mrs. Arnold lost her three year battle with cancer at her home on Aug. 24, 2004 surrounded by some of her children.
She was born Sept. 11, 1925 to Woodrow D. and Clara A. (Hushaw) Huffman in La Junta and graduated from La Junta High School. She met her husband, Clarence, in La Junta while she was working at the army depot. He had come from Oklahoma to work in the coal mines. They married in La Junta on Nov. 11, 1945. In 1950 she, her husband, daughter, Terry Ann, and oldest son, Everett Eugene "Gene", moved to the Olympia area. The family has lived at the residence on Fernwood Drive in Olympia since 1963.
She was a homemaker raising seven children, one girl and six boys. Mrs. Arnold loved bingo, oil painting, crossword puzzles and watching 'Wheel of Fortune', 'Jeopardy', and 'The Young and Restless' and going to garage sales.
She is survived by her daughter, Terry Ann Lamb (Dick) of Olympia; sons, Gene (Mary) of Auburn, Joseph E. of Olympia, George William of Apple Valley, California, Raymond of Las Vegas, Nev., Stephen Carl of San Diego, Calif., and James (Lorie) of Lacey; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; mother, Clara, and father, Woody; brothers, Melvin and Kenneth; grandson, Michael James; sister Eunice Loree.

DRYSDALE
A memorial service for Monte Vista and former La Junta resident Edward L. Drysdale, 52, will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Mr. Drysdale died June 29, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born in Hazen, Ark. on July 15, 1952 to Carl Franklin and Irma Lee Bradin Drysdale. He was married to Karen Sue Sechrist on Jan. 15, 1974 in La Junta.
Mr. Drysdale was a devout member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Monte Vista and of the Episcopal Mission of the San Luis Valley. He was a past Bishop's Warden, held various leadership capacities and was active in the West San Luis Valley Community Meal. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked as a route driver and trainer for the Frito Lay Company for the past 12 years and had previously worked at the Arkansas Valley Journal newspaper in La Junta. While in La Junta, Ed was involved in the Chamber Wake Up breakfast for many years. He enjoyed golf, fishing, collecting baseball cards, fixing things around the house, and especially spending time with his family.
Mr. Drysdale is survived by his wife, Karen Drysdale of Monte Vista, his children Neal G. Drysdale of Westminster, Leane M. Drysdale of Aurora and Jami L. Drysdale of Monte Vista, his grandson Dusty James Duran of Monte Vista, and his mother Mrs. Irma L. Drysdale of De Valls Bluff, Ark. He is also survived by his brothers Tedford G. (Mary Jane) Drysdale of El Paso, Ark., Jimmy M. Drysdale of Cabot, Ark., John F. Drysdale of Texarkana, Texas, Carl L. Drysdale of De Valls Bluff, Ark., and Elton D. (Triva Dee) Drysdale of Peculiar, Mo., and his sister Carletta (Gene) Meeker of Palmer, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his father Carl on March 18, 1958 and his sister Solla D. Moore in October of 1997.
