CURLEY
A memorial service for Vince and Vada Curley will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 31, at the McClave Cemetery.
The service will be followed by a picnic meal at the McClave Park for all family and friends.
LANGDON
Ralph Harmon Langdon, 94, a former resident of Las Animas, died July 2, 2004, in Greeley, where he had resided since 1997.
He was born March 4, 1910, in Lebanon, Kan., to Harley Willis and Cora Luella (Taylor) Langdon. He married Leona F. Cook on Aug. 27, 1937.
After his parents and a brother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918, he was raised by his aunt, Josephine (Langdon) Warner. He attended school in Ebson, Kan., and worked for area farmers until 1937, when he moved to Las Animas.
He served in the Army from Nov. 7, 1942, until Sept. 30, 1945, as an amphibious "duck" driver in Africa and Europe. He then returned to Las Animas and worked as manager of a hay mill.
He and his wife raised numerous foster children of different nationalities. He was a member of the Friends Church in Las Animas and served on the Ministry Council.
His parents, two sisters, Agnes and Edith, three brothers, Clarence, Alonzo and John are deceased.
Services were held last week at the Northern Colorado Crematory in Greeley.

ASBURY
Timothy Edward Asbury, who grew up in Las Animas, died July 15, 2004, of lung cancer at his home in Temecula, Calif. He was 55.
Mr. Asbury was born July 12, 1949, at Bloomington, Ill., and moved to Las Animas when he was 3. After graduating from Las Animas High School in 1967, he earned a degree in journalism from the University of Colorado, then spent 26 years as managing editor of the twice-a-week Estes Park Trail Gazette, where he won may awards for journalistic excellence. He moved to Temecula, Calif., five years ago and served three years as copy editor of the daily Californian newspaper there, then two years as a copy editor at the larger Press Enterprise daily at Riverside, Calif.
Mr. Asbury is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Coleman of Las Animas, whom he married Aug. 26, 1972, and three children: Jill (Jeff) Black of Firestone, Colo., Kathleen Asbury of Fort Collins and John Asbury of Temecula, Calif. He is also survived by his parents, Earl and Sally Asbury, former owners of the Bent County Democrat, who live in Colorado Springs.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 26 at the Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park.
MARQUEZ
Frank A. Marquez, 60, a resident of Garden City, Kan., and a former resident of Las Animas, died July 13, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital - Via Christi Campus in Wichita, Kan., following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Las Animas to Floyd and Josie Marquez. He was a 1963 graduate of Las Animas High School. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduation and served as an MP during the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Marquez; one daughter, Sharon Lermon, both of Garden City, Kan.; two sons, David Marquez of Garden City, Kan., Anthony Marquez of Charlotte, N.C.; one granddaughter; a sister, Bernadette Briscoe of Rye; two brothers, Joe D. Marquez of Covina, Calif., and Fred Marquez of Brea, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Marquez and brother, Gilbert Marquez.
All Faiths Funeral Service of Wichita was in charge of cremation. No services were held per his request.

BRADLEY
Natalie Lynn (Valdez) Bradley, 27, was killed in a one car accident on E-470 near Brighton on July 14, 2004.
She is the daughter of Nathaniel (Pam) Valdez of Las Animas and Judith (Perea) Atkins of Brighton. She was born on May 20, 1977, in Pueblo and lived in Las Animas for about five years. She graduated from Alternative High School in Englewood and worked for the Allen Asphalt Co.
She married Wil Bradley on Oct. 1, 2002. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Andreas J. Perea and Beau Bradley; her parents; two sisters, Claire (Pete) Campbell of Yukon, Okla., Stephanie (Craig) Ensley of Denver; half-brothers, Nathaniel and William Valdez and half-sister, Amy Valdez all of Las Animas; and paternal grandmother, Genevieve (Ted) Sporcich of Pueblo.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Enos Valdez and maternal grandparents of Joseph and Emma Perea.
Funeral services were held July 19 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada with Pastor John Larson officiating.
PHILLIPS
Funeral services for Helen (Addington) Phillips, 82, of Modesto, Calif. were on Friday July 9, 2004 at Lakewood Funeral Home in Modesto. She died on July 3, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Rocky Ford but lived in Modesto for 53 years. She was the daughter of John Addington and Helen Russell. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Modesto. She enjoyed reading, gardening and embroidering, and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her children Joie Rainey of Modesto; Barbara Walls of Modesto; Mary Ann (Wes) Olsen of Modesto; Donald (Tina) Phillips of Modesto; sisters Clarabeth Wadhams of La Junta; Evelyn Atwood of Fresno, Calif.; Jamie Dazey of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Bernice Hammerquist of Woodstock, Conn.; sister-in-law Vada Phillips of La Junta; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Davis Phillips Jr. and her parents.

INGE
Funeral Mass for Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Guthrie Inge, 94, of La Junta will be at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick's Parish in La Junta. Father Paul Montez of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford will be officiating. She died on July 29, 2004 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center.
She was born on January 25, 1910 in Oswego, N.Y., to Col. William Leo and Louise Morgan (Simpson) Guthrie. She graduated from La Junta High School with the Class of 1927. She attended Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y. and for two years attended Brown Business College in La Junta. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick's Parish, active in PEO, Republican Womens Club, the Art League, Otero County Historic Society, Tuesday Literary Club and a Girl Scout Leader. She also enjoyed painting, genealogy and local history. She was married to Reuben Inge on February 26, 1931 in La Junta.
Growing up she lived in many different Army Posts including Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, Galveston, Texas, Mobile, Alabama, and Louisville, Kentucky, before Col. Guthrie's death in 1918. Mrs. Guthrie and the six Guthrie children moved to Rocky Ford to be near the Guthrie family for health reasons. Betty owned and operated with her husband Inge Shoe Store at 2nd and Santa Fe for over 30 years.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Baker of La Junta; Sally (David) Buikema of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Major Christopher Baker; Michael Baker; David Baker; John Baker; Richard Baker; Stephen Baker; Jane (Lt. JG. George) Perez; Susan (Scott) Miller; Kathryn Buikema; numerous nieces and nephews; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers John and William Guthrie, sisters Marian Torrance, Margaret Sabin and Geraldine Entingh.

LENTINI
Joye Elizabeth Miller Lentini, a former resident of Fort Lyon, died July 7, 2004, at her home Glendale, Wis.
She was born Aug. 1, 1925, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., to George and Leo (Anderson) Miller. She graduated from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She married Dr. Vincent Lentini, whom she met while working as a dietician in Indianapolis, Ind., in August of 1950. They later moved to Chicago.
In 1961, his career with the Veterans Administration brought them to Fort Lyon where he was chief of staff until his retirement in 1973. They moved to Colorado Springs and he died in 1979. She moved to Wisconsin in 1997.
She was active in many organizations while living at Fort Lyon including the Woman's Civic Club, the PTA and the Band Parents at Las Animas High School. She also sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Cecelia (Thomas) Torok of Merchantville, N.J., Patricia of Portland, Ore., Susan (Robert) Smith of New York City and Elizabeth (Kevin) Gibson of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; and eight grandchildren, Elena and Stephen Torok, Melody Niwot, Christopher and Marcella Lentini, Patrick Smith and Anna and Alexander Gibson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service was held and interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery
in Washington, D. C.

HUNTER
Carol Hunter, 85, died July 19, 2004, in Denver. She was a former chief of Psychiatry Service at the Fort Lyon VA Medical Center. She worked at Fort Lyon for 12 years, retiring in 1992. She had been in declining health for many years.
Survivors include one son, Laurence (Susan) Boothby; two granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsay and a brother, Robert Hilderman.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Boothby.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, at Montview Blvd. Presbyterian Church with burial at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery.

TRUJILLO
Agapito Trujillo of Cheraw died July 26, 2004, in Pueblo. He was born July 7, 1936, in Trujillo, N.M., to Jesus and Maria and Soledad (Aragon) Trujillo.
He married Mary Lou Montano on April 11, 1955, in Las Vegas, N.M. He had worked for Herman Weiner and at La Junta Livestock.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Mary Jane (Ben) Trujillo, Sara (Gilbert) Palacio, all of La Junta, John (Anna) Trujillo of Denver; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. and Memorial Mass at 10 a.m., Friday, July 30 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with the Rev. Charles Sena as celebrant,

TRUJILLO
Funeral Mass for former La Junta resident Eva Trujillo, 83, of Windsor, Colo. will be Thurday at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10 a.m. Mrs. Trujillo died on Aug. 2, 2004 at the Hospice and Palliative Care Windsor. Visitation was today from noon until 7 p.m. and Recitation of the Rosary is today at 7 p.m. at the Allnutt Funeral Home-Macy Chapel in Greeley, Colo. and burial wll be in Greeley's Linn Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Trujillo was born on Oct. 26, 1920 in Romeroville, N.M. to Toribio and Melguades (Madrid) Lovato. She was married to Leopoldo C. Trujillo in New Mexico and he preceded her in death in 1956.
She was formerly from Las Vegas, N.M. and she worked at the Western Foods Pickle Plant in La Junta and retired in 1975. She moved to Greeley in 2003.
Her hobbies included going to Blackhawk to gamble as well as cooking, dancing, crocheting and reading. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was an outgoing, independent and self-motivated person.
Survivors include four daugthers, Augustina (Augie Sr.) Augustino of Windsor, Lydia (Eleazar) Becerra of Chihuahua, Mexico, Rose (Samuel) Trujillo of Denver and Valerie Trujillo of Greeley, two sisters, Esmerelda Garcia and Alica Jaramillo, four brothers, Ernie, Herman, Delfido and Juan Lobato, 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
RAMIREZ
Funeral Mass for Paula Jacinto Ramirez, 77, of La Junta will be Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish at 10 a.m. Mrs. Ramirez died on Aug. 3, 2004 at her home. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Rosary is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Ramirez was born on March 5, 1927 in La Junta to Antonio and Felicitas (Jacinto) Torres. She was married to Paublino "Paul" Ramirez on June 27, 1957 in La Junta. She attended school in Swink and worked on her parents' farm. She was an employee of Western Foods for 17 years, retiring in 1987.
Survivors include her husband Paublino Sr., three daughters, Maria (Manuel) Jurado of La Junta, Veronica (Rick) Mata of La Junta, Carol (David) Ramirez of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Paublino "Paul" (Carolyn) Jr. Trujillo of La Junta, two brothers, Alvaro (Stella) Torrez and Rujelio "Rocky" Torres and 9 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Lopez and a granddaughter, Elizabeth G. Jurado.

BLAKNEY
Donald Blakney, 69, of Colorado Springs died there on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. He was born Aug. 7, 1934 at La Junta to John and Edith (Bull) Blakney.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6 at Fairview Cemetery
in La Junta with Pastor Steven Heir of the New Hope Baptist Church officiating.
Mr. Blakney was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; one son, Rodney; two daughters, Kim and Danae; one sister, Shirley Walter; three nephews, several cousins, good friend Phyllis Davis and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Rick Blakney.
He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

MOORE
Darlene Mae Moore, 49, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 in Fort Collins. She was born Oct. 10, 1954 at Rocky Ford to Daniel and Marie Mae (Enyart) Becker. She married John R. Moore on June 23, 1973 in Rocky Ford.
Mrs. Moore graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1973. She was a former Colorado Springs resident and had resided in Fort Collins since 1982. She worked in the technology industry in Fort Collins and surrounding area. She loved crafts, and crocheting in particular.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Moore, of the home; two sons, John R. Moore Jr. and Brian Moore, both of Fort Collins; and one brother, Larry (Bea) Becker of Flagstaff, Ariz. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Phillip Becker.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at Hillcrest Cemetery
in Rocky Ford with the Rev. Rusty Butler officiating. Visitation has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 9, at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford.
