WARNEKE

Russel E. Warneke, known as Bud, died June 30, 2004, of an apparent heart attack at his ranch near Brown's Park, Colo., at the foot of Douglas Pass.

The family home address is 6338 Iris Way, Arvada, CO 80004.

Mr. Warneke was a former ag teacher in Fowler High School in the mid 1950s.

He is survived by his wife Fran Hicks Warneke and three children, Rusty, Sherry and Debbie and their families.

Funeral services were held July 7 at Arvada and following cremation, his ashes will be scattered on his mountainside ranch.

Fowler friends send sincere sympathy to the Warneke family.

MILLER and MILLER

Kenneth "Larry" Miller, 66, and his wife, Patricia, 64, both of Calhan, were involved in a car accident July 3 in El Paso County. Patricia passed away July 3, 2004 and Larry passed away July 4, 2004.

Larry was born February 13, 1938 to David and Freeda Miller of La Junta, Colorado. Patricia was born December 24, 1939 to Francis and Irene Gleason of Spearville, Kansas.

Larry and Patricia were married in Las Animas on February 9, 1957 and to this union three children were born, John (Cheri) Miller of Calhan, Kelly (Larry) Garrett of Colorado Springs, and Kim (Scott) Goodhue of Calhan.

Larry and Patricia were part of the Calhan community for the past 20 years where they owned and operated the Calhan Auction Market, Inc. Larry spent the biggest part of his life working in the cattle industry. After working for many years with Mountain Bell telephone company, Patricia enjoyed walking and embroidery. Both Larry and Patricia very much enjoyed their six grandchildren, Jody and Christopher Miller, Bailey and Mark Garrett and Erin and Taylor Goodhue.

Larry was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Gerald Miller; and one sister, Mildred Reeder. Patricia was preceded in death by her father. Survivors are their children and grandchildren, mothers Freeda Miller and Irene Gleason both of La Junta and Patricia's three brothers, James of Swink, Daniel (Loretta), and Robert (Teri) Gleason of La Junta as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the St. Michael's Catholic Church Calhan on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. internment immediately following at Calhan Cemetery.

Love Funeral Home in Limon is in charge of arrangements.

VANBUSKIRK

Funeral services for Ann E. VanBuskirk, 66, of Sunnyside, Wash., and formerly of Lamar will be at 10:30 a.m. on July 9, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Lamar. Reverend Dennis Bradley will be officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Peacock Funeral Home in Lamar. The Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta at 2:30 p.m. on Friday July 9. Mrs. VanBuskirk died on July 3, 2004 in Sunnyside, Wash. following a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 4, 1938 to Jesse and Margaret Price in Paonia, Colo.

Mrs. VanBuskirk is survived by her husband, William VanBuskirk of Sunnyside, Wash.; sons Brent (Shelley) VanBuskirk of Oroville, Wash.; Brad (Robin) VanBuskirk of Pueblo; Brian (Haifa) VanBuskirk of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Barbara (Lawson) Perdue of Colorado Springs; mother Margaret Price of Paonia; brother Robert (Gayle) Price of Grand Junction; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Beth VanBuskirk.

Those wishing to honor Mrs. VanBuskirk's memory may contribute to the Ann VanBuskirk Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church, Lamar or through Peacock Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

SALAS-INGRAHAM

Memorial service for Cheryl Anita Salas-Ingraham, 32, of Batesville, Ark. and formerly of Las Animas will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 10, 2004 at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Salas-Ingraham died on June 29, 2004 in Batesville, Ark.

She was born on October 23, 1971 in Las Animas to Louis and Judith Salas.

Mrs. Salas-Ingraham is survived by her children John Salas of Pueblo; Samantha Bookout of Pueblo; Jacob Bookout of Pueblo; Ashley Ingraham of Ordway; Cheyenne Ingraham of Batesville, Ark.; Justice Ingraham of Batesville; mother Judith Salas of Pueblo; father Louis Salas of La Junta; sisters Nancy (Dino Vialpondo) Montoya; Carol (Alvin) Gallegos of La Junta (twin); Michelle Salas of Las Animas; five nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Bernice Apodaca and Alfred and Helen Salas.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MCBEE

A family Graveside service for Emma Avis (Johnson) McBee, 85, of La Junta will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. She died on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at the Bent County Memorial Nursing Home in Las Animas. She had been a resident there since January, 2002.

She was born on July 21, 1918 in Scammon, Kan. to Ray Johnson and Bess Johnson. She married Howard McBee on September 24, 1937 in Hutchinson, Kan. She was a homemaker and a resident of La Junta for over 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Darrell McBee of Hobson, Mont.; Gary McBee of La Junta; and Connie (McBee) Rogers of La Junta; grandchildren Troy Rogers, Julie and JoAnn McBee and Jo, Janine and Jerri McBee; and brother Ray Johnson Jr. of Great Bend, Kansas.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Johnson and Mildred Allen, and brothers Farrell Johnson and Jim Johnson.

Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler is in charge of arrangements.

MCNERNY

Basil Patrick "Pat" McNerney, 51, of Olney Springs, died July 4, 2004 in a motorcycle accident on Highway 96 east of Boone.

He was born on January 18, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico to J. Robin McNerney and Esther Lewis McNerney. He was a decorated veteran of the Viet Nam conflict. He married Kandi Barksdale in La Junta on October 2, 1992. He was a member of DAV and VFW Posts in Ordway, was a volunteer fireman of Olney Springs and had served as fire chief. He had served four terms on Olney Springs Town Council. Also a member of Olney Springs, Lions Club and ABATE Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kandi, his mother, Ester McNerney, both of Olney Springs, daughters Samantha McNerney of Olney Springs, Tenna Platt and Cassandra Higgins of Denver, Sharon Hunter-McNerney of La Junta, sisters Melody (Mike) Roscover of Texas and Kim (Keith) Edinburn of Lamar, grandchildren, Eathan and Haley Platt and other relatives.

Arrangements are pending at Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler. Times and services to be announced.

FREEMAN

Leona Pearl Freeman, 95, a lifelong Rocky Ford resident, passed away on July 4, 2004 in Rocky Ford. A private service will be held at a later date.

She was born August 12, 1908 in Topeka, Kan. to Harry and Betty Knox. Leona married her devoted husband, Carl Freeman, in Buena Vista, in 1928. She enjoyed camping at her cabin, spending time with her family and watching the Denver Broncos.

She is survived by her daughters Maxine (Wayne) Grooms of Rocky Ford and Paula Nelson of Rocky Ford; grandchildren Gary (Cathy) Felthager of Pueblo; Janet (Lyle) McCarty of Lamar; LuAnn Felthager of Lamar; Mike (Cindy) Grooms on North Hills, Calif.; Rick (Joan) Grooms of Rocky Ford; and Mark (Vicki) Will of Rocky Ford; fourteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter and son-in-law Jeri and Melvin Felthager, son-in-law John Nelson, and grandsons Greg Grooms and Dennis Felthager.

Drysdale

Monte Vista and former La Junta resident Edward L. Drysdale, 51, died June 29, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident. Ed was born in Hazen, Arkansas on July 15, 1952 to Carl Franklin and Irma Lee Bradin Drysdale. He was married to Karen Sue Sechrist on Jan. 15, 1974 in La Junta.

Ed was a devout member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Monte Vista and of the Episcopal Mission of the San Luis Valley. He was a past Bishop's Warden, held various leadership capacities and was active in the West San Luis Valley Community Meal. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He worked as a route driver and trainer for the Frito Lay Co. for the past 12 years and had previously worked at the Arkansas Valley Journal newspaper in La Junta. While in La Junta, Ed was involved in the Chamber Wake-Up Breakfast for many years. He enjoyed golf, fishing, collecting baseball cards, fixing things around the house and especially spending time with his family.

Ed is survived by his wife Karen Drysdale of Monte Vista, his children Neal G. Drysdale of Westminster, Leane M. Drysdale of Aurora and Jami L. Drysdale of Monte Vista; his grandson Dusty James Duran of Monte Vista and his mother Mrs. Irma L. Drysdale of De Valls Bluff, Ark.

He is also survived by his brothers Tedford G. (Mary Jane) Drysdale of El Paso, Ark., Jimmy M. Drysdale of Cabot, Ark., John F. Drysdale of Texarkana, Ark., Carl L. Drysdale of De Valls Bluff, Ark., and Elton D. (Triva Dee) Drysdale of Peculiar, Mo., and his sister Carletta (Gene) Meeker of Palma, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl on March 18, 1958 and his sister Solla D. Moore in October 1997.

A time of gathering for Ed's family and friends will be held Saturday, July 3 between 4:30 and 7 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Monte Vista in conjunction with the community meal. A service of thanksgiving for Ed's life will be held Wed, July 7 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A formal memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Cremation has been held and memorial contributions are requested to the West San Luis Valley Community Meal c/o St. Stephen's Episcopal Church P.O. Box 489 Monte Vista, CO 81144.

Arrangements are in care of Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista.

SINCLAIR

Frances Katherine "Babe" Sinclair, 87, died June 28, 2004, at the Bent County HealthCare Center.

She was born May 11, 1917, in Crested Butte to Rudolph M. and Adelaide Sporcich. She married Alpha I. "Pinky" Sinclair on April 24, 1938, in Gunnison. He died May 30, 1981.

She came to Las Animas in 1948 from Crested Butte. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer for the Fort Lyon VA Hospital and the American Red Cross for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, William D. (Phyllis) Sinclair of Las Animas; one daughter, Lucille A. (Gene) Beaudrie of Lakewood; one sister, Dottie Myers of Springfield, Ohio; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, with Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph G Kukucka as celebrant. Sarah McKinney was the organist.

Casket bearers were Joe Bolita, Gene Beaudrie, Matt Sinclair, Mandi Sinclair, Chuck Donkle and Bill Sinclair.

Burial was in the Fort Lyon National Cemetery with Horber Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

FRANTZ

Funeral services for Lucille Frantz, 84, of Rocky Ford will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 16 at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home, with Pastor John Dell officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Rocky Ford. Mrs. Frantz died on July 11, 2004 at the Pioneer Health Care Center.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1919, to Henry and Emma Elizabeth Ritthaler. She was raised in La Junta and Rocky Ford and graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1937. She married Lawrence Frantz on Dec. 24, 1937. She was a homemaker and worked at the American Crystal Research Station for 20 years.

She is survived by her sons, Gene and David Frantz; daughter Nancy (Gene) Schreckhise; brother Paul (Betty) Ritthaler; sisters-in-law Marie and Doris Ritthaler, and Geraldine Frantz; grandchildren Don (Jo) Frantz; Alan ( Peggy) Frantz; Susan (Rob) Oram, Bill (Janine) Schreckhise; Rick Frantz; Randy (Heidi) Schreckhise; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Margaret Burchett, and brothers Frank, John, and Vernon Ritthaler.

The family wishes to acknowledge the diligent and loving care provided by the staff of the Pioneer Health Care Center and the Arkansas Valley Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to the Arkansas Valley Hospice at 118 W. 4th St., La Junta, CO 81050.

ORNELAS

Funeral Mass for Martin Ornelas, 90, of Rocky Ford will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. Father Charles Sena will be officiating. The vigil will be at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, July 12) at St. Peter's. Burial will be in Valley View cemetery. Mr. Ornelas died July 8, 2004 at the Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway.

He was born on November 11, 1913 at San Carlos, Mexico to Felipe Ornelas and Carlota Quintela Ornelas. He married Gabriela Adame on June 18, 1937 in Carlsbad, N.M. He worked on farms around Rocky Ford before retiring. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford.

Mr. Ornelas is survived by his children Juanita Bermudez of Lansing, Mich.; Hortensia (Juan) Martinez of Terra Bella, Calif.; Socorro Tijerina of Lansing, Mich.; Fannie (Victor Rocha) Ornelas of Rocky Ford; Raymond (Gloria) Ornelas of Manzanola; Sammy (Josie) Ornelas of Wellington, Texas; Bobby (Zenaida) Ornelas of Carlsbad, N.M.; Benjiman (Connie) Ornelas of Rocky Ford; Fermin (Julia) Ornelas of Rocky Ford; daughter-in-law Barbara Ornelas of Rocky Ford; 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gabriela, three sons, one daughter, five brothers, and one sister.

CANDELARIO

Funeral Mass for Teodolinda "Linda" Candelario, 81 of La Junta will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2004 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Father Charles Sena will be officiating. Rosary will be on Thursday July 15 at 6 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Candelario died on July 11, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center in La Junta.

She was born on May 27, 1923 to Jose and Guadalupe (Montoya) Leyba in Guadalupe, New Mexico. Mrs. Candelario worked at several cafes in town including Frances Cafe. She also worked at several of the area nursing homes and at Western Foods.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Joe) Lucero of Swink; Elaine (Floyd) Montoya of Stuarts Draft, Va.; son Benjie (Louise) Candelario of La Junta; grandchildren, Michelle Cordova, Vickie Lucero, Moriah Montoya, Barbara Lucero, Merideth Lucero, Erica Acosta, Floyd Montoya Jr., Christopher (DaNae) Candelario, Jeremy (Heidi) Candelario, and Laura Candelario; great-grandchildren Jimmy Cordova, Samantha Cordova, Anthony Jimenez, Annissa Candelario, Christopher Candelario, Elijah Candelario, Sydney Acosta, Eli Acosta, Donovan Ramirez, and Hailee Ramirez; sister Alice (George) Garcia of La Junta; and brothers Eloy (Mable) Leyba of Mora, N.M. and Daniel (Sandy) Borrego of Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Terry Gonzales and a brother, Leandro Leyba.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center West, Activities Fund, 514 W. 10th St., La Junta, CO, 81050 or to the Arkansas Valley Hospice Assoc., P.O. CHOWNING

Funeral services for Mable Emma Chowning, 87, of Ordway and formerly of Rocky Ford, will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday July 14, at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Rev. Steve Speidel of Peoples Mission in Swink will be officiating. A visitation will be on Tuesday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday July 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Rocky Ford. She died on July 10, 2004 at the Crowley County Nursing Center.

She was born on June 8, 1917 in Rocky Ford to Clarence and Lorena (Jones) Yoder. She was married to Charley Chowning on March 26, 1943. He died Jan. 29, 2002.

Mrs. Chowning is survived by her daughter Roberta (Richard) Clayton of Rocky Ford; sons Alvin (Wanda) Chowning of Colorado Springs; William (Lydia) Chowning of Brazil, South America; sisters-in-law Doris Yoder of La Junta and Sybil Yoder of Oregon; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Ethel Chowning, sisters Juanita Kerley and Roberta Bassett and brothers Orbin Yoder, Marvin Yoder, Arreld Yoder, Ransom Yoder, and Owen Yoder.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
