TAYLOR

Memorial service for Simeon Felix "Bud" Taylor, Jr., 68, of Fowler, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Griffy Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fowler with the Rev. Jane Mitchell of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

At his request, there was cremation.

Mr. Taylor died Oct. 27, 2003, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo.

He was born March 13, 1935, in Ravenden, Ark., to Simeon F. Taylor and Marian Pauline Phillips Taylor. He had been employed as a truck driver for many years and was a farmer and rancher.

He is survived by sons Mark (Marie) Taylor of Fowler, Brian (Jill) Taylor of Manzanola, Michael (Debbie Nichols) Taylor of Oxnard, Calif., Donald (Marie Carlman) Taylor of Hays, Kan.; two brothers, Paul (Mary Lou) Taylor and Ed (Lois) Taylor of Thayer, Mo.; sisters Mary Ann Talley of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Pearl Hines of Thayer, Mo.; grandchildren Kendra and Kyle Taylor and step-grandchildren Michelle, Marlyn and Marla Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Alice Pauline Mix.

Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler is in charge of arrangements.

MELGOSA

Funeral services for Consuelo Melgosa, 85 of Rocky Ford and formerly of Lamar, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford. Visitation is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home. She died Oct. 27.

Mrs. Melgosa was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose Del Hierro and Gertrude Licon Melgosa. She married Raymond Melgosa on Jan. 3, 1938, in Lamar. She was a homemaker and moved to Rocky Ford in 1963 from Wiley. She farmed with her husband in Grand Valley, south of Rocky Ford.

She is survived by ten children including, Lydia Ubeles of McClave, Raymond (Micaela) Melgosa Jr. of Waco, Texas, Armando (Ann) Melgosa of Apache Junction, Ariz., Mario Oscar Melgosa and Rudolph Melgosa, both of Lamar, Daniel (Carmen) Melgosa of Pueblo West, Hortensia (LeRoy) Quintana of Colorado Springs, Frank (Margaret) Melgosa, Albert Melgosa, Sandra (Joel) Lundquist, all of Rocky Ford, 29 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Celia Martinez of Denver.

Mrs. Melgosa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GRAHAM

Memorial service for Benjamin A. Graham, 63 of Fowler, will be at noon on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort Collins. He died Oct. 11, 2003.

Mr. Graham was born Aug. 22, 1940 in Rocky Ford to Charles W. Graham and Pauline Tillotson Graham. He was a technician for Nor Tel Communications. He loved photography and electronics.

He is survived by sons Dereck (Teresia) Graham of Colorado Springs, Jerry (Lee) Graham of Fort Collins, Ben (Kim) Graham of Greeley, David Graham, who is with the U.S. Army, ten grandchildren, brother Bill Graham of Fowler and sister Carolyn Bryant of Grand Junction.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Paula Graham and his parents.

Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WOOKEY

Funeral services for Esther R. Fancher Wookey, 89, of Rocky Ford will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. John Dell officiating. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford. Mrs. Wookey died Jan. 20, 2004 at Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway.

She was born Oct. 8, 1914 in Rome, Ohio to Absolum Weybright and Carry Frances Bailey. She married Charles Fancher on Sept. 5, 1931 at Rocky Ford. He died Feb. 18, 1963. She later married Dale Wookey on April 10, 1993 in Rocky ford. He died Dec. 19, 1996. Mrs. Wookey was a homemaker, loved to attend dances at the senior citizen center and loved to fish.

Survivors include her sons, Jack (Gloria) Fancher of Amarillo, Texas and Edward (Jeanie) Fancher of Aberdine, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a cousin, Marion Van Dyke Portner of Rocky Ford; and special friend Peggy Roser of La Junta. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and two daughters, Joyce Wasson and Bonnie Brown.

ENCINIAS

Rosary for Joe Vicholas Encinias, 77, of La Junta will be held on Monday, Jan. 26 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta at 9 a.m. with Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. Charles Sena presiding. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Mr. Encinias died Jan. 22, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center.

He was born April 3, 1926 to Ramon and Themla (Sandoval) Encinias in Maxwell, N.M. He married Seferina Baca on Nov. 7, 1944 in La Junta and has lived in the Arkansas Valley ever since. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and was also a member of the La Junta Senior Citizens Center, where he enjoyed playing cards, doing some magic tricks and playing pool. He was also a member of La Junta Catholic Parish.

Mr. Encinias is survived by his children, Maria (Eugene) Mestas of La Junta, Nick (Melissa) encinias of Montpelier, Ohio, Emilia (Angelo) Griego of Fergus Falls, Minn., Dee DeLeon of La Junta, Lewis (Theresa) Encinias of La Junta, Lucy (ZB) Lomako of La Junta, Rick Encinias of Carlsbad, N.M., David (Cathy) Encinias of Las Animas, Bernadette (Eddie) Salazar of La Junta and Anna-Marie (William) Salas of Denver; 35 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Irene (Frank) Candelaria of Denver and Lucille (Norman) Critten of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sophia, and brothers Alex, Pete and Ramon, Jr.

Arrangements are by Grooms Crematory and Mortuary in Rocky Ford.

ALPHA

Judy Riley Alpha of Wichita, Kan. died July 13, 2003 in an auto accident in Delta, Utah. It was her 65th birthday.

Funeral services were held July 21 at Glenn Park Christian Church in Wichita, Kan.

Mrs. Alpha grew up in La Junta. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Arthur of Derby, Kan., Valerie Alpha of Wichita, Kan. and Vicki Boyle of Wichita, Kan., five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Riley; her mother, Mildred Will; and her husband, Larry Alpha.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

KINISTON

Janet Lynne Kiniston of 346 St. Vrain Ave., Las Animas, died Jan. 17, 2004, at her home.

She was born Aug. 28, 1948, in Las Animas to John Leslie (Jack) and Evelyn Janet (Oldham) Robinson. She married Ronald Glenn Kiniston on July 3, 1970, in Las Animas. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband; her mother-in-law, Ava Kiniston of Las Animas; two daughters, Tina M. Kiniston of Shawnee, Kan., Mary Beth (Jeff) Condit of La Junta; three grandchildren, Caeleigh Kiniston and Wade and Jay Condit; two brothers, Lee (Mitzi) Robinson of Lamar and David (Beverly) Robinson of Amarillo, Texas.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rona Lee.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at Fort Lyon National Cemetery with the Revs. Claire and Gary Zilm officiating.

Horber Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Autistic Foundation through the funeral home office.

KOLAR

Janet Viola Kolar,73 died Jan. 19, 2004, at the Bent County Memorial Nursing Home. She had been a Las Animas resident since 2000.

She was born April 4, 1930, in Fowler to William Garner and Hazel (Fullerton) Beaver. She married Donald Victor Kolar on April 25, 1954, in Denver. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and Alpha Gamma Delta.

Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Charles (Pat) Kolar of Denver; two daughters, Donna (Marty) Martenson of Las Animas, Sue (Stan) Smith of Corvallis, Ore.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

At her request there was cremation with no services. Horber Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

APODACA

Bernice (Betty) Apodaca, 70, died Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.

She was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Pueblo to Emilio and Pauline (Martinez) Lucero. She married Johnny J. Apodaca on Oct. 23, 1948, in Pueblo. He died Oct. 2, 2002. She worked as a seamstress at the Fort Lyon VA Hospital, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Dorothy) Apodaca of Jackson, Miss., Robert (Betty) Apodaca of Las Animas, Manuel Lucero of Pueblo; one daughter, Judy Salas of Pueblo and one granddaughter whom she raised, Nancy Montoya of Pueblo; four brothers, David Martinez of Pueblo, Ronny Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas; Eddie Martinez of Denver, Rick Martinez of Rio Honda, N.M.; four sisters, Virginia Narranjo, Charlotte Cordova, Sharon Martinez, all of Pueblo; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 with Mass of Commendation at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Grimes as celebrant.

Casket bearers were Carol Gallegos, Cheryl Ingraham, Joseph Apodaca, Robert Apodaca Jr., Coby Apodaca and Jerry Apodaca.

Burial was in the Fort Lyon National Cemetery with Horber Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

QUINN

Jack Quinn of Lafayette, and a former Las Animas resident, died Nov. 19, 2003, in Boulder. He was 81.

He was born July 31, 1922, in Las Animas to Joseph H. and Minnie M. (Woods) Quinn. He married Helen Lantz on Nov. 19, 1945, in Fort Collins. He served in the Army Corps from Dec. 5, 1943, to Nov. 5, 1945, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. He worked in sales in heating and air conditioning until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Carlson of Louisville, Judy Rogers of Aurora; one son, Pete Quinn of Elizabeth; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Dorothy Brunken of Prescott, Ariz.; Mattie Rogers of Canon City and Mildred Harvey of San Antonio, Texas.

Inurnment was in the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

FRANTZM

Walter E. "Chick" Frantz, 93 and a native of Rocky Ford, died Jan. 17, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M. following a battle with cancer. He was cremated.

He was born to George and Hattie Frantz on Nov. 18, 1910, in Rocky Ford. He attended school and graduated from Rocky Ford High School. Mr. Frantz married Adele Hamilton of La Junta on April 16, 1933. He served in the Armed Forces overseas during World War II.

During his lifetime, Mr. Frantz owned and operated grocery stores at different times in Ordway, Los Alamos, N.M. when it was a secured area, and in Espanola, N.M. He also managed one in La Junta. After he retired they moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where they have lived ever since.

Mr. Frantz is survived by his wife, Adele, their one daughter, Ernestine (Hoyt) Norris of San Diego, Calif., two granddaughters and their spouses, one grandson and his spouse, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was the last living member of the George Frantz immediate family.

Mr. Frantz was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Gen DeWeese, and three brothers, George, Donald and Claude.

COOK

Shirley J. Brown Cook of Litchfield, Conn., passed away at her daughter's home on Jan. 4, 2004, following a battle with cancer.

She was born in La Junta on Oct. 23, 1941, to J.D. and Viola (Schneider) Brown. Her grandmother Schneider raised her through age five.

Mrs. Litchfield is survived by her daughter, Sandra Newbury and son Mark Williamson, both of Litchfield, Conn.; a son, John Poole of Osteen, Fla.; a daughter, Susan (Poole) Bumpus of Palatka; and another daughter Gail (Schneider) Wheeler of Pueblo, who was reunited in 2003 with her birth mother, Shirley, after 42 years of separation. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda King of Skipperville, Ala. and Marilyn Mackey of West Palm Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and relatives from La Junta and California.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Cook, her sister, Judy Poulette, a granddaughter, Tiffany Williamson, her parents and also grandparents Ed and Louise Schnieder, who helped raise her.

LUNDAHL

Funeral services for Bill "Red" Lundahl will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta, followed by interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Mr. Lundahl died Jan. 17, 2004, at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo.

He was born March 30, 1932 in Crowley County to Ernest and Anna Lundahl. He married his best friend, Arlene, 51 years ago on his birthday. Mr. Lundahl was an avid hunter and trap shooter, as well as a lifetime member of the ATA and the NRA. He enjoyed oak woodworking, growing roses and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of the family home; sons Jay (Sandy) Lundahl and Rodney Lundahl, both of Pueblo; one daughter, Sheryl (Mike) Cook of Pueblo; seven grandchildren, Jason Lundahl, Amy Lundahl, Audrey Lundahl, Kimberly Cook, Jamie Cook, Erin Lundahl and April Lundahl; and two brothers, Clyde Lundahl of Walsenburg and Jack Lundahl of Crowley.

Mr. Lundahl was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jeffrey Cook.

The family will greet visitors immediately following services on Thursday.
