BAKER

Funeral services for Allie B. Baker, 88, of Fowler were held on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Griffy Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fowler with the Rev. Sam Ramsey of the Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church officiating.

Burial services with military honors by the Pueblo Veterans Honor Guard was held Monday at Fort Lyon National Cemetery at Fort Lyon.

Mrs. Baker died Nov. 6, 2003, at Fowler Health Care Center.

She was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Pelzer, S.C., the daughter of Thomas Isaac Benton and Annie F. Drexler Benton. She served in the military for seven years as a corporal in 2135th Army Air Force Base Unit of the WACCS.

She moved to Fowler in 1979 from Canon City, following the death of her husband, Bob Baker.

She was a member of the Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by relatives living in Texas.

Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler was in charge of arrangements.

EDWARDS

Graveside services for Lena Mae Edwards, 84, of La Junta will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Fairview cemetery. She died Nov. 8, 2003.

Mrs. Edwards was born Oct. 6, 1919 to Guy Raymond and Emma Christine (Hundt) Berkley in Rocky Ford. In 1936 she married Ralph T. Edwards in La Junta. The young railroad couple raised their family, owned and operated their businesses Edwards Cleaners and the Model Hotel in La Junta. They farmed in La Junta Gardens and ranched north of La Junta. She also worked until retirement at the J.C. Penney store in La Junta.

She is survived by her daughters Marian Barnes of La Junta, Sylvia (Frank) Nipper of Pueblo, sister Laura (George) Boraker of Rocky Ford, grandchildren Brian (Marina) Barnes of Ordway, David (Katherine) Barnes of Westminister, Linda Hunter of La Junta, seven great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, her parents, a son-in-law and a nephew.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Graveside services for Lena Mae Edwards, 84, of La Junta will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Fairview Cemetery. She died Nov. 8, 2003.

NAIMY

Graveside services for Eddy R. Naimy, 73, of Penrose and a former La Junta resident, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. He died Nov. 10, 2003.

Mr. Naimy was born July 22, 1930 in Walla Walla, Wash. to Henry J. and Esther Fay (Reed) Naimy. Her served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s. He was stationed in Alaska and was on board an aircraft when it crashed into Mt. McKinley. He walked for many miles after the crash in the freezing cold to get help to save the pilot. He suffered lifelong injuries from the ordeal. He married Judy A. Woodward on June 19, 1981 in Lake City, Colo. He repaired watches and owned and operated Harding-Bullock Jewelry for ten years and then sold the business.

He is survived by his wife Judy Naimy of Penrose, sons Joel (Karisa) Woodward of La Junta, Larry (Toni) Brizendine of Westcliffe, daughter Paula (Bob) Bondilio of Pueblo, sisters Margaret "Mickey" Durkin of Lakeview, Ore., Kathy (David) Rothrock of Anacorpes, Wash., Esther (Leon) Wayt of Ranier, Wash., Bernice (Irl) Clary of Tigard, Ore., brother Ernie (Elaine) Bent of Hines, Ore., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fisher House, 1954 Quintan, Aurora, CO 80010, directly or through the Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. The Fisher House is a home established for the use and support of families of veterans who are being treated at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

GUTIERREZ

Rosary for Martha Jane Gutierrez, 51, of La Junta will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 with funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patricks Parish. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. She died Nov. 10, 2003.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 2 to Richard and Mary Chaparro. She married Eddie Gutierrez on Aug. 16, 1969 in La Junta. She was a licensed daycare director and the director of Martha's Daycare for over 20 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Parish and the Daycare Association.

Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by daughters Robin (Adolph) Martinez and Lori Ann Gutierrez, both of La Junta, sons Eddie (Olivia) Gutierrez of La Junta, Timothy Gutierrez of Denver, grandchildren Christopher Gutierrez, Mark and Nathaniel Martinez, Natasha and Eddie Gutierrez and Madison Gutierrez, all of La Junta, brothers and sisters Debbie, Theresa, Robert and Ricky.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Chaparro.

Memorial donations may be made to Associated Charities, Arkansas Valley Resource Center, Woodruff Memorial Library or Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish.

The date of death was incorrectly given in the pending death announcement in yesterday's paper. The La Junta Tribune Democrat apologizes for the error.

GUTIERREZ

Services are pending for Martha Jane Gutierrez, 51, of La Junta. She died Nov. 11, 2003. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

THOMAS

Graveside services for Ozella R. Thomas, 89, of Pueblo and a former La Junta resident, will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Lakeview Cemetery in Sugar City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Griffy Family Funeral Home Chapel in Ordway. She died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003.

Mrs. Thomas was born March 1, 1914 at Throckmorton, Texas to Jess Andrew Wheeler and Mary Jane Key Wheeler. Her family along with seven other families, came from Texas to homestead in the Cedars near Kim. She married Orval Lee Thomas in Hoopup, near Kim, in 1934. The couple moved to La Junta, where she lived until moving to Pueblo in 1992.

She is survived by son Henry K. (Daisy) Thomas of Pueblo, daughters Jane (Kenneth) West of Pueblo West, Levina (Phil) Robertson of Pueblo West, Shirley (Jim) Lofdahl of Karval and Charlotte (David) Grasmick of Las Animas, sister Lois (Joe) Zieda of Arboles, Colo., Hazel (Gene) Munger of Spring, Texas, sister-in-law Edith Wheeler of Fairview, Ore., 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orval on Jan. 23, 1981, two brothers, two sisters, son Leslie, grandsons Dean and Dennis Robertson and granddaughter April Lea Ann Thomas.

Griffy Family Funeral Home of Ordway is in charge of arrangements.

WINTERS

Private services will be held at a later date for Ophelia Winters, 92 of La Junta. She died Nov. 8, 2003.

Mrs. Winters was born July 5, 1911 in Mangum, Okla. to Aron and Frances (Jones) Burks. She retired from the Verizon Telephone Company.

She is survived by her son Doyle (Viola) Winters of La Junta, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank and granddaughter Rhonda Winters.

Arrangements are by Grooms Crematory and Mortuary of Rocky Ford.

HALL

Funeral services for Katie Lee Hall, 88, of La Junta will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas with the Rev. Maynard Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in the Hall family cemetery. Mrs. Hall died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at the Arkansas Valley nursing home.

She was born Sept. 5, 1915 in Old Hansford, Texas to John Duncan and Bernice Esmer Doyle Graham. She was united in marriage to Elvin Clark Hall on Aug. 13, 1951 in Taos, N.M. She came with her parents to homestead in the Deora area in 1919. She helped with the ranching operations on the ranch south of Las Animas for many years. She was a member of the Cedar Lassies Club.

Mrs. Hall is survived by two sons, Gary (Karen) Hall of Las Animas and Kevin (Gail) Hall of La Junta; six grandchildren: Lori (Mark) Spady, Don (Misty) Hall, Christy (Doug) Grasmick, Lori (Marty) Chambers, all of Las Animas, and Gary (Alisha) Hall of Pritchett and Trent Hall of La Junta. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dave (Darla) Graham of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters Johnnie Casebolt of La Junta and Patsy (Bill) Laycock of Pueblo; and a sister-in-law, Edith Graham of Swink.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin; grandchild Louise Hall; grat-grandson Wester Dale; a sister, Bernice Reed; and brothers Bob, Doyle and Duncan Graham.

Horber Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

MONTOYA

Funeral Mass for Joe Carmel Montoya, 67, of Rocky Ford will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford with Father Charles Sena officiating. Vigil for the deceased will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. Visitation will be until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. Mr. Montoya died Nov. 4, 2003 at Pioneer Health Care Center in Rocky Ford.

He was born July 16, 1936 in Watros, N.M. to Seferino and Sofroni Ortiz Montoya. He married Della Sanchez on Oct. 11, 1975 in Pueblo. Mr. Montoya retired as the plant operator for West Plains Energy after 21 years. He worked in Canon City and moved back to Rocky Ford in 1998. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, the Church Men's Organization and the Knights of Columbus. He made his Cursillo in 1963 in Pueblo. He was recognized with a volunteer pin at Pioneer Health Care Center where he called bingo. He also called bingo at the American Legion for many years. Mr. Montoya was a loving husband, father and stepfather and he loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Della, of the family home in Rocky Ford; children Alice (Darrol) Vigil of Rocky Ford; Carmel (Maria) Montoya, Jr. of Pueblo, Veronica (Randy) Vallejos and Patricia (John) Tutza, both of Colorado Springs; step-children Rom Rodriquez, Ken Rodriquez, Cathy (Larry) Dearcos and Robert (Lorraine) Rodriquez, all of Rocky Ford; grandchildren Sarah Campos, Robecca Rodriquez, Roberta Rodriquez, Juanita Rodriquez, Veronika Rodriquez, Gilbert Rodriquez, Carlos Dearcos, Maria Dearcos, Michelle Rodriquez, Stephanie Rodriquez, Sonya Dearcos, Feliciti Jaramillo, Brian Vigil, Anthony Vigil, Breianna Montoya, Jessica Ortega, Daniel Ortega, Andrew Vallejos, Vincent Vallejos, Joshua Vallejos, Julie Zamora and Amanda Olmedo; great-grandchildren Sarai Rodriquez, Allysa Rodriquez, Juan Sanchez, Michael Algein and Alexia Vasquez; brothers Gilbert (Martha) Montoya of Rocky Ford and Max (Ruby) Montoya of Yoder; sisters Dora (Paul) Hernandez of Pueblo and Mary (Abran) Sena of Wisconsin; sister-in-law Barbara Montoya of Rocky Ford; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Montoya was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Alfred Martinez, brothers Steven and Milton, sister Frances and grandsons Richard Montoya and Robert Rodriquez, Jr.

The family prefers memorials be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church. Friends are being received by the family at the Cathy Dearcos resident at 810 Astro in Rocky Ford and at the Alice Vigil residence at 813 South Sixth St. in Rocky Ford.

McDOWELL

Clifton M. "Joe" McDowell, 56, of Hasty, died Oct. 29, 2003, at the Prowers Medical Center in Lamar following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 11, 1947, in Chandler, Okla., to Robert C. and Hattie L. (Greenfield) McDowell. He married Mary Kay Glowatzke on April 23, 1979, in Hasty. He was a member and past chief of the Hasty-McClave Volunteer Fire Department and also served on the Hasty Fire Board and Hasty Water Board. He enjoyed his time of coaching the Mini-Mates in McClave and hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife; three sons Jay of Hasty, Patrick (Linda) and Clifton Jr., both of California; five daughters, Nita (Joe) of Hasty, Paula (Mark) of Waynoka, Okla., Verna of Hasty, Louise (O.J.) of McClave, Cissy of Arizona; three brothers, Carol and Patty McDowell, Raymond and Linda McDowell of Lamar, Wayne and Marilyn Spruiell of Hasty; one sister, Shirley and Dean Chapman of Sandy Valley, Nev.; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and his mother, Hattie L. McDowell, of Lamar.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin McDowell and his father, Robert.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3 at the Union valley Cemetery in Hasty with the Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating. Selected music included "On The Wings Of A Dove," "You Light Up My Life," and "Daddy's Hands."

Horber Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to a fund established at McClave State Bank or through the funeral home office.

HALL

Katie Lee Hall, 88, a resident of the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center nursing care center in La Junta, died there Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 at the Horber Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Hall Cemetery south of Las Animas.

MCBEE

Funeral services for Donald L. McBee, 75, of Pueblo were held Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Pueblo. Interment was at Imperial Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.

Mr. McBee died Oct. 30, 2003.

He was born Nov. 4, 1923. He was a World War II veteran, owner of Don's Heating and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his children Cynthia (Tilman) Wright of Fountain and Tim (Annette) McBee and Jeff (Liz) McBee, all of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren Brenda (Junior) Nardo, Lindsey (Paul) Montello, Breanne Wright, Ryan McBee, Kendon Powell and Hayden McBee; sisters Betty (Cloyde) Taylor and Darlene (Lyle) Wooters of Lawrence, Kan.; sister-in-law Ann McBee of Pueblo and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Juanita, sister Clastine (Irvin) Whittemore and brothers Bobby and Ray.

In lieu of food and flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Mr. McBee's memory.

George McCarthy Funeral Home in Pueblo is in charge of arrangements.
