Dorothy Lee Bryant
Jan. 28, 1929 — Dec. 16, 2007
Dorothy Lee Bryant died at her Clifton home on Dec. 16. She was 78.
Dorothy was born to LeRoy and Virginia Castor Hill in Lamar, Colo., on Jan. 28, 1929, and the family later moved to Delta and Grand Junction, where Dorothy graduated from Central High School.
Dorothy married Homer Bryant on Aug. 31, 1951, in Grand Junction. They were members of the Elks and Dorothy enjoyed women’s softball, painting, and raising rabbits and chickens. Dorothy had a great sense of humor, always telling jokes, and she loved collecting funny cartoons.
Dorothy is survived by Homer D. Bryant Sr., her loving husband of 56 years. She is also survived by three sons: Homer D. Bryant Jr. and Robert L. Bryant, both of Grand Junction, and Daniel Raye Bryant of Murray, Kent.
Other survivors include two sisters, Dixie Martin of Grand Junction and Shirley Faye of Oracle, Ariz., three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wayne Hill and Lawrence Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Martin Mortuary with a visitation time from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to service time Friday. Burial will follow services at Memorial Gardens Cemetery
in Grand Junction.
Adda Mae Lowrance
May 13, 1925 — Dec. 17, 2007
Adda Mae Lowrance of Palisade died Monday, Dec. 17, surrounded by loved ones at the Palisade Living Center. She was 82.
Adda was born in Denver to Arthur Halter and Edith (Vadeen) Halter on May 13, 1925. She grew up in the Denver area and met the love of her life, William T. Lowrance. They were married on Nov. 6, 1947. They resided in Denver until moving to Coal Creek Canyon, Colo., where they owned and ran a service station. In 1970 they moved to Palisade and owned and operated the Mesa View Motel for 15 years before retiring.
Those grateful to have shared in her life include her husband; sister June Watson of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters Patricia Waterhouse-Alano of Mack, Colo., Julia Hulett of Colombia, Mo., and Anna Trone of Pahrump, Nev.; grandchildren Jennifer, Pamela, Heidi, Jason, Robert, Francis, Renne and Douglas; and three great-grandchildren along with many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William T. Lowrance; and grandson Richard Hulett.
James Elliott Stump
Aug. 15, 1908 — Dec. 21, 2007
James Elliott Stump died Friday, Dec. 21, at his home in Grand Junction. He was 99.
James was born in Clendennin, WV, Aug. 15, 1908. At age 5, his family moved to Akron, Ohio, and in 1917, the family moved to an uncle ’s ranch at Fort Morgan, Colo.
James grew up on the ranch, raising crops, feeding cattle and sheep, and dairy and hog farming. He finished through high school there. After freezing of crops and bank failures from 1929 to 1932, he became a J.C. Penney man. He worked all departments from stock to assistant manager. The family moved to Grand Junction in September 1939.
James volunteered for the U.S. Navy Reserve as storekeeper. James was a graduate of the Weaver School of Real Estate and Property Appraisals at Kansas City, Mo. In 1947, James left Penney ’s for a position with the Mesa County Assessors Office as Property, Livestock, Personal and Business Property Appraiser. He later became Statistician, Cartographer and Property Abstracter for Legal Transfers of Property. James stayed with Mesa County for 28 years before retiring. He also had served as a driver for people who were unable to drive to doctors ’ offices and hospitals.
James sang Tenor for 37 years in the Methodist Church Choir, initiated Grand Junction ’s Gem and Mineral Club, Commodore of Shriner ’s and Colorado River Skippers Yachting Clubs, was a Scout master, Mason 32nd Scottish Rite and El Jebel Shriner, of which he held lifetime memberships.
James was previously married to Margaret A. Hargis and Katherine Williams Caruer before marrying Marilyn L. Mills on Oct. 13, 2001, in Palisade.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sister, Josephine (Raymond) Meyer, of Delta; nephew Charles R. Meyer of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and great-niece, Kelly, of Ann Arbor, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment will be in Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner ’s Children ’s Hospital, 1275 Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
Linda Kay (Herman) Warren
Aug. 20, 1950 — Dec. 21, 2007
Linda Kay Warren of Glade Park, Colo., died quietly at her home with her loved ones by her side. She was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in April of 2007.
Linda was born in Hutchinson, Kan., to Donald E. and Faye M. (Terry Collins) Herman. She was a wonderful big sister to Don (Cathy) Herman of Chickasha, Okla.; Debra (Virgil) Boggess of Grand Junction; and Timothy Herman of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert L. Collins, of Burlingon, Kan.
She married Thomas B. Warren on Feb. 1, 1969. Together they loved and raised two sons, Shawn (Jade) of Las Vegas and Robert (Bree) of Chicago. Linda loved and was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Kira, Alex and Ashley.
Linda was a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge. She loved her home and movie marathons with her family. She had an incredible sense of humor and wit with which she entertained her family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Las Vegas.
In lieu of flowers, Linda wished for donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary.
Wendell Lupton Wood
July 30, 1913 — Dec. 13, 2007
Wendell ’s spirit peacefully left his body at his Denver home the morning of Dec. 13.
Born and raised on a Kansas farm, the sincere country boy left the farm to become a Realtor. Enlisting in the Navy at the onset of World War II, he honorably served aboard the USS Lycoming in the South Pacific.
After the war he moved to Glenwood Springs and started Lincicome Wood Motor Co., a successful car dealership, with his brother-in-law.
Moving his family to Denver in 1958 he resumed his passion for real estate, and was recognized in 1962 as one of the top 10 residential Realtors in the country.
He continued working, never fully retiring until age 91.
Wendell’s sincere heart endeared him to all.
He loved well, and was well loved.
Wendell was preceded in death by his first wife, Oletha, and his second wife of 61 years, Jeanne. He is survived by his sons Roger Wood of Silverdale, Wash., Carson Wood of Grand Junction; his daughter, Penny Watson, of Denver; five grandchildren; and 7 3/4 great-grandchildren! His wonderful legacy will continue through all of them.

Ty Eugene Echer
July 17, 1962 — Oct. 10, 2007
Ty Echer of Grand Junction died at his home on Oct. 10.
He was 45.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Bethel Assembly of God at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Huslig officiating.
Ty’s final resting place will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado.
Ty was born in Denver on July 17, 1962, from the union of Charles M. and Mary Lou (Unrein) Echer.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, and worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation, most recently in the Hanging Lake Tunnel in Glenwood Canyon.
Ty loved his family and his dogs.
He also loved camping and fishing, and was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan for his entire life.
Ty was also an avid NASCAR fan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Echer.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; stepdaughter Carolyn Zimmerman, both of Grand Junction; his father, Charles M. Echer; and stepmother, Loma Charlotte Miller, also of Grand Junction; his brothers, Rusty and Dennis Echer, both of Denver; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be greatly missed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
Virgil A. Van Dyke
June 14, 1905 — Oct. 9, 2007
Virgil A. Van Dyke of Grand Junction died Oct. 9 at Palisade Living Center.
He was 102.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Martin Mortuary.
The oldest of eight children, Virgil was born June 14, 1905, in Trenton, Mo., to Lloyd and Saphrona Van Dyke.
His love of horses and riding led him to join the Mesa County Sheriff’s Posse in 1956.
He chaired the annual posse rodeo for 25 years, and along with Clyde Cattles, Virgil started the annual Christmas food drive for the Salvation Army.
Virgil, or “Pa” as his family called him, was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years.
He married Lillian Zellers on Sept. 10, 1927, in Pueblo where he worked for 20 years at CF&I Steel Mill.
The family moved to Grand Junction in 1947 and opened the North Avenue Washateria, which they ran for 27 years at Second Street and North Avenue.
He and Lillian retired in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and three sisters.
His survivors include one son, Virgil Z. Van Dyke of Grand Junction; one granddaughter, Doreen Lincoln (Norman) of Grand Junction; three grandsons, Richard Van Dyke (Angie) of Eagle, Stephen Van Dyke (Debbie) of Tempe, Ariz., and David (Lorrie) of Grand Junction; nine great-grandchildren, Kelly Van Dyke of Denver, Kristy Spaedt (husband, Levi) of Delta, Megan Van Dyke of Denver, Erik Lincoln of Grand Junction, Andrew Dickinson of Fort Carson, Ben Van Dyke of Grand Junction, Brian Lincoln of Grand Junction, Mikeila Van Dyke of Eagle and James Van Dyke of Eagle; and one great-great-grandchild, Landon Spaedt of Delta.

Gloria Ruth Melvin
Sept. 3, 1936 — Oct. 9, 2007
Gloria Ruth Melvin went to join her husband and her father, with their Heavenly Father.
She entered glory on Oct. 9 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was 71.
Gloria was born in Arthur, Neb., and attended schools there. She was the devoted wife of Frank E. Melvin.
They lived in several locations while serving in the military, including the Azores, Taiwan and Texas.
They owned and operated several successful businesses after leaving the service.
Gloria loved her life and family.
She was part of a large and close family that loved to get together to play games and talk.
They never grew tired of discussing any subject under the sun.
She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading, and watching movies.
She had a real vitality that will be greatly missed.
Gloria was an example of how to live and love.
We pray each of us can learn to share and give unconditional love that we learned from mom. There was never a day that we did not experience her support or defense, even perhaps when she went to the extreme, and especially spoiling of grandchildren and even recently with great-grandchildren.
Mom gave everyday for her family.
She said it does not matter how old we are; she worried and supported us every day.
Survivors include her mother, Zola Wilson; son, Wesley Melvin and wife Charlene; daughter, Arliss Bridgett and husband Lowell; son, Kelly Melvin and wife, Anne; seven grandchildren, Matthew Melvin, Jordan Melvin, John Melvin, David Bridgett, Abigail Bridgett, Brittany Melvin, Madison Melvin; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Melvin and Maci Melvin; siblings and their spouses include Gayle Gregory (Neal), Joyce Morrell, Eva Melby (Ken), Art Wilson, David Wilson (Sharon), and Lela County (Vic).
Services are planned for Monday, Oct. 15, at Christ Lutheran Church 8997 South Broadway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. She will be buried with her husband at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.

Michael Brown
January 8, 1939 — September 15, 2007
Michael Brown of Grand Junction died Sept. 15, 2007 at St. Mary’s Hospital of complications from a stroke.
He was 68.
A private family remembrance has been celebrated.
Michael was a graduate of Temple University School of Pharmacy in Philadelphia where he grew up, and he received his two post-graduate degrees from Purdue University.
A major portion of his working career was spent in Holland, Mich.
He worked for five major corporations in product research and development, quality control and business planning, and later started his own consulting firm.
He was an elected member of the Tanque Verde School Board in Tucson, Ariz., where he resided until two years ago, and remained vitally interested in world, national, and community affairs. Michael had been an avid cross country skier, hiker, traveler, reader, film buff and dog walker.
He adored his late dog Barney. “Wait for me, Barney, at the Rainbow Bridge. I’ll be crossing soon.”
Survivors include his wife, Beryl (Bogin); his son, David Brown (Terri) of Battlement Mesa; his daughter, Deborah Brown of Tucson, Ariz.; his sister, Natalie Litman of Philadelphia, Pa.; and his two dogs and two cats.
Arrangements are under the care of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.

Theresa Curtis
Dec. 25, 1933 – Sept. 8, 2007
Theresa Curtis, long time resident of Grand Junction and a three year resident of Las Vegas, Nev., died Sept. 8, 2007. She was 73.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 22, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born Dec. 25, 1933, in Bakersfield, Calif.
Theresa was a retired bakery factory worker and been employed at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Manford (Curt) Curtis.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandy (Leo) Biedermann of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Steve (Mary) Curtis of Hughson, Calif.; grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Curtis, both of Hughson, Calif.; step-daughter, Kathy (Bob) Barnes; sisters, Carmen Sisneros of Bakersfield, Calif., Eloise Alvarado of Rialto, Calif., and Marcie Mosqueda of Los Angeles, Calif.; and brother-in-laws, Fred and Jim Bishop and families.

Emma Lou Kerr
July 2, 1924 — Sept. 14, 2007
Emma Lou Kerr died Sept. 14, 2007. Emma was the rock of her family and will be sorely missed. She was 83.
Visitation will be held today, Sept. 18, 2007 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary where friends and family may call from 4–7 p.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Burial will follow at the Palisade Cemetery.
She entered this life July 2, 1924. She was the loving daughter of Frank and Della (Gammel) Greenmyer.
Emma was born in McCurtain, Okla., and married Billy Kerr on Dec. 10, 1942 in Stigler, Okla. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1989.
Survivors include: sons, Frank Kerr of Phoenix, Ariz., Gene Kerr, James Kerr, and Randy Kerr of Grand Junction; daughter, Karen Sawatzky of Grand Junction; and sister, Ladean Decker.
Mrs. Kerr was the loving grandmother of 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her daughters, Connie Jo Waller, Goetta Lou Lance; three grandchildren, Kevin Lance, Amber Dawn Kerr, and James Tylor Bain; brothers, Buddy Greenmyer, and Robert Greenmyer; and sisters, Bessie Wise and Vi Phillips.
