Wade Aaron Zorn
Wade Aaron Zorn died Oct. 21 in Grand Junction from a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 38.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1967, in Mesa, Ariz., to Robert R. and Linda O. (Tosko) Zorn.
He graduated from Willcox High School in Arizona with the class of 1985. After graduation, he pursued his interests in mechanics becoming a Master Marine Technician. He was employed for a number of years with Bullfrog Resort & Marina and, most recently, with Forever Resorts, where he earned the employee of the year award in 2003.
Wade enjoyed all the activities associated with being out in nature — hiking, hunting, water-skiing and photography.
He was also a talented drummer. At the age of nine, he won second place at the Arizona State Fair and recently enjoyed entertaining the guests with other local musicians at the Bullfrog Marina on Lake Powell.
He was a member of the NRA and was a life member of North America Hunting Club.
He will be remembered for his attention to detail and his zest for life.
He is survived by his parents of Las Vegas; brother Sean A. (Karen) Zorn of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sister Tara E. Burns of San Marcos, Calif.; grandmother Faye L. Tosko of Apache Junction, Ariz.; uncle Arden Tosko of Apache Junction; aunts, Trina Tosko of Florence, Ariz., and Karen Miller of Archer, Fla.; two nephews; and four nieces.
The family will celebrate Wade’s life and scatter his cremains at one of his favorite places in the Bolder Mountains of Utah.

Myrtle B. Smallwood
Aug. 11, 1918 — Oct. 21, 2005
Myrtle “Micki” B. Smallwood died Oct. 21 at Family Health West in Fruita. She was 87.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Snell-McLean Funeral Home in Fruita with Pastor Tom Hiduk officiating. Inurnment will be at New Elmwood Cemetery
with family present.
She was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Arnold and Katherine Schroder Hauswald. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from high school in 1935.
She married J. Raymond Kraai on Feb. 8, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her two brothers, Charles and Clifford.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Naomi) of Fruita; sisters, Alice Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Emma Garvey and Ruth Hossack of Sioux City; grandson Chris of Rochester, Minn.; granddaughter Cindy of San Carlos, Calif.; and her four great-grandchildren, Blake, Serena, Chiara and Matthew.
Edith Evlyn Hart
Sept. 25, 1936 — Oct. 18, 2005
She suffers no more.
Edith died Oct. 18 at Mesa Manor Care Facility.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Harry Hart of Grand Junction; her daughter, Jane Norwood and granddaughters, Phoebe and Emily of Loma; her son, Mark Hart and granddaughter Michaela and grandson Michael of Springfield, Mo.; four sisters, Rose Wampole of Sunnyside, Wash., Dolores Schrader of Gordon, Neb., Arline Miller of Chadron, Neb., and Maurine Mortensen of Commerce City.
Edith was the youngest of five born to Richard William and Tillie Jane Edwards in Chadron. She made her home in Grand Junction in 1962.
She spent her life as a wife and caring mother while battling rheumatoid arthritis and associated illnesses for the last 35 years. She cared deeply for everyone she knew, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. She enjoyed pets, embroidery and crocheting and often made gifts of her works.
Those who knew her learned from her about quality of life, how to never give up and about that which matters most — love.
Norine D. (Garver) Gronostajski
Aug. 3, 1919 — Oct. 19, 2005
Mesa County resident and longtime volunteer Norine Gronostajski died Oct. 19 at St. Mary’s Hospital following a stroke. She was 86.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1919, in Rifle. She spent her childhood years in that area. She was the daughter of Ray and Ona (Wright) Garver of Silt.
While she was married four times, her longest union was with John Gronostajski. John and Norine met in New Jersey at a Polish club and after marrying, relocated to Grand Junction in about 1965. They enjoyed camping, Jeeping and rock-hunting.
Norine was mother to three children, Barbara Norine Sharp of Eugene, Ore., Linda Lee Lindabeaver of Grand Junction and Ted Good Jr. of Littleton. All three survive. She also had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She worked at Ultronix as an assembler, spot welder and foreman for many years. She enjoyed her family. In addition, she provided child care for many local families. She served in the Foster Grandparent Program for about 15 years, tutoring children with special needs. Norine also volunteered with Hospice, Mesa County Triad/Salt Council and Beta Tau Sorority. A community-minded person, Norine kept herself busy and tried to leave the world a better place.
Cremation has taken place. An outdoor memorial service is planned for Thursday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

Karron Sue Gauthier
Dec. 20, 1952 — Oct. 22, 2005
Karron Sue Gauthier died Oct. 22 at 2 a.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital due to complications from multiple myeloma.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; three daughters, Heather, Heidi and Corey; two sisters, Terran and Constance; a brother-in-law, John; and seven grandchildren, Phillip, Joseph, Josh, Ryan, Christopher, Jacob and Ethan.
Karron was born on Dec. 20, 1952, in Lawrence, Kan. She raised her family in Louisiana and moved to Grand Junction in 1999.
Karron was an active member of St. Matthews’s Episcopal Church. She was a beloved member of Daughters of the King and a participant of various church groups (ALPHA, Cricio and EFM).
Services are planned for today at 2 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Visitation will be held at noon prior to the service.
Joseph Hansley Bander
March 16, 1924 — Oct. 22, 2005
Joseph Hansley Bander died peacefully on Oct. 22 at his residence in Grand Junction. He was 81.
Joe was born March 16, 1924, in Longview, Texas, to Joe and Exa Tuttle Bander. Joe graduated from McCallie Military School in Chattanooga, Tenn., and then entered the Army Air Corps as a pilot. He served for three and one-half years during World War II. Upon completion of military service, Joe attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering.
Joe began his business career as an independent oil and gas operator in 1950. His career reached from the early days in Abilene, Texas, as a partner in Bander & Couch until his move to Denver, Colorado in 1973. The partnership of Brownlie, Wallace, Annstrong & Bander led to the development of many legacy oil and gas properties in the Rocky Mountains. This culminated with Joe’s induction in the Independent Petroleum Association of the Mountain States Hall of Fame in 2004.
He was married on Dec. 26, 1975, to his wife, Laquita, of nearly 30 years and moved to Grand Junction in 2000. He enjoyed the serenity of being with his family, friends and the beauty of the Grand Valley.
Joe served on the board of directors and as president of both the Petroleum Club of Abilene and Denver Petroleum Club. While living in Denver, he was an active member at both Cherry Hills Country Club and Castle Pines Golf Club.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Laquita of Grand Junction; his sisters, Joyce Johnson of Longview, Texas; and Marie Ormerod and husband John of Tucson, Ariz.; his daughters, Jane Williams and her children, Klye and Saralee Williams of Dallas, Texas, Nancy Bander of Abilene, Kelly King and husband Wade Laudenschlager and their daughter, Kendall, of Grand Junction, and Robin King of Edmond, Okla. He has three nieces and a nephew.
Joe will be missed as a loving husband, friend, business partner, mentor and an inspiration to many.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Road.

Elinor Torstveit
Nov. 14, 1919 — Feb. 2, 2006
Surface Creek area resident Elinor Torstveit died Feb. 2 at her residence. She was 86.
Memorial services will be held Feb. 18 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead, Minn.
Elinor White was born to Edgar F. and Florence (Tagell) White on Nov. 14, 1919, in Missoula, Mont. She spent her childhood in Madison, Wis., and graduated from high school there. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, earning her degree in biology. As a college professor, she taught biology at Concordia College in Moorhead for 36 years.
On Nov. 14, 1940, Elinor married Olaf Torstveit in Madison. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1995, in Moorhead.
Elinor was a founding member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead. She was a member of the Red River Valley Zoo in Fargo, N.D. Her greatest love was teaching. She also enjoyed animals, camping and was a world traveler.
Survivors include her four sons, Allen Torstveit and wife Mary of Onalaska, Wis., Jeremy Torstveit, M.D., and wife Shawn of Phoenix, Ariz., Steven Torstveit, Ph.D, and wife Michael of Bozeman, Mont., and Joel Torstveit and wife Marie of Eckert; a brother, Warren White and wife Joy of Aptos, Calif.; and a sister, Virginia “Betty” Moon and husband William of Sun City, Ariz. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Elinor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olaf; and a granddaughter, Kristen Torstveit.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
Howard G. Owen
May 22, 1920 — Feb. 4, 2006
Pastor Howard G. Owen of Grand Junction died Feb. 4 in El Paso, Texas, after a short illness. He was 85.
Howard was born May 22, 1920, in Hilltown, Pa., from the union of William and Vera Morton Owen.
Howard served for two years during World War II with the U.S. Army. He graduated from Binghampton High School in Binghampton, N.Y., and later attended seminary in Denver, receiving a degree in pastoral studies.
He married Maybell Owen on Feb. 15, 1947, in Liberty, N.Y. She preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 1999, in Grand Junction.
Howard was a member of the Living Hope Evangelical Free Church in Grand Junction and lived in Grand Junction for several years. He enjoyed reading and preaching.
He is survived by a sister, Ethel Blair of Port Crane, N.Y. Other survivors include four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday at the Living Hope Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday at Martin Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
Danielle L. Clement
April. 9, 1970 — Feb. 6, 2006
Danielle L. Clement, wife of Dr. Bill Clement and daughter of Dr. Donald W. and Trudy J. Cannon, died Feb. 6 at Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was 35.
Danielle was born April 9, 1970, in McPherson, Kan., to Donald W. and Carla M. (Swanson) Cannon. After spending her early years in Colorado Springs and St. Louis, Mo., she was raised in Grand Junction.
She graduated in 1988 from Grand Junction High School and attended Mesa State College. She was employed by Wal-Mart since the company first opened a local store. Danielle attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
On May 11, 1996, Danielle married William E. Clement. They moved to Kansas City where Bill attended chiropractic school and returned to Grand Junction, upon his graduation
She was a devoted, loving wife and a sensitive, caring and fun-loving woman. Above all else, she loved her role of mother to her children, Zachary Wayne, 6, and Rebecca Michelle, 3.
In addition to her husband, parents and children, she is survived by two brothers, Dennis C. Cannon and Matthew W. Cannon, both of Grand Junction; three sisters, Mrs. Timothy (Tracy J.) Allen of Fruita, Mrs. Anthony (Kelly M.) Carbajal, of Henderson and Mrs. Neil (Victoria L.) Tracy of Clifton.
Also surviving are grandparents, Russell and Phyllis Swanson of Windom, Kan., Donald Cannon Sr. of Vernal, Utah, and Norlene Bates of Lake Havasu City, Nev. Other survivors include seven nieces and nephews, Dr. Clement’s parents, Calvin and Shirley Clement of Grand Junction, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Danielle was preceded in death by her mother, Carla Swanson Cannon and brother-in-law Wayne E. Clement.
Services will be held on Saturday at Grand Junction First Assembly of God, 402 Grand Ave., with visitation at 11 a.m. and service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Marla Ross will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Howard Hayes officiating.
The family asks that contributions be made to the “Danielle Clement Memorial Fund” to benefit her children. The fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank and contributions may be made at any branch office.
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary is overseeing arrangements.
Paul Eugene Campbell
Aug. 1, 1918 — Feb. 2, 2006
Paul Eugene Campbell of Delta died Feb. 2 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 87.
He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Delta to Benjamin Franklin and Nannie Belle (Jones) Campbell.
He married Agnes Lorraine Walker on Sept. 22, 1940, in Delta. They renewed their wedding vows in 2000.
She died Nov. 13, 2004, in Delta.
Paul spent his childhood and attended school in Delta. He and his wife, Lorraine, traveled around southern Colorado and northern New Mexico until moving to the Denver area with their jobs managing movie theaters. They returned to Delta in 1988, where he has remained.
He attended Delta First Assembly of God in Delta.
He enjoyed working with model trains and gardening, especially growing his tomatoes.
He is survived by a son, Michael Campbell, of Delta; a daughter, Kathleen and husband Danny Porter of Delta; grandson Shannon Porter; three granddaughters, Amanda Santos and Faith and Hope Campbell; and a great-grandson, Cameron Santos.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Delta First Assembly of God in Delta. Burial will be at Delta City Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Mesa View Mortuary on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
