Helen A. Paoletti
Helen A. Paoletti, 85, of Longmont, Colo., died at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Paoletti was born on July 9, 1917, in Indian Orchard, Mass., to Martin Dobek and Anna (Shephard) Dobek.
She graduated from Ludlow High School in Ludlow, Mass.
She was married to Robert A. Paoletti on July 23, 1941, in Indian Orchard.
She was the owner and operator of restaurants in Massachusetts, Florida, and Paoletti’s Den in Longmont, Colo.
Paoletti moved from Florida to Longmont, Colo., in 1974. In 1984, she moved back to Florida, and returned to Longmont in 1992.
She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Edward and John Dobek.
Survivors include her son Ronald A. Paoletti and his wife Robin of Estes Park; grandchildren Wayne Blanchette and his wife Julie of Westminster, Colo.; Kevin Blanchette and his wife Lori of Wellington, Colo.; Mark Blanchette and Scott Olson and his wife Shannon of Longmont; and three great-grandchildren Mallisa, Kara and Nicole.
A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at St. John the Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Flaska officiating.
Cremation was set to follow the service.

Col. Jacob O. Mall, MD
Col. Jacob O. Mall, MD, 100, of Fremont, Calif. died on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003.
Mall was born in Clay Center, Kan. in 1902, where he lived on a farm until attending medical school in Nebraska.
He served his internship in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas, before going on to establish his practice of medicine in Estes Park — a practice that he kept for 50 years.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army Medical Service Corps in the Pacific Theater. After the war he established an overnight acute care facility in Estes Park called the Estes Park Hospital, patterned after evacuation hospitals he had commanded during the war.
Mall was active in civic affairs and a member of many organizations. He served as president in some of those organizations, including the Estes Park Rotary Club.
Mall was married to Marion Louise Lemley until her death in 1985.
Following her passing, he moved to Freemont, Calif., where he resided near his only son.
Survivors include his son R. Wayne Mall of Freemont, Calif.; four grandchildren, Rhonda Adler of Longmont, Colo.; Margaret Hoffman of Hong Kong; Mary Mall of Camarillo, Calif. and Michael Mall of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four great-grandchildren Shauna and Shane Adler and Korin and Cory Hoffman.
Following cremation his remains will be buried in Estes Park, next to his wife.
Keith Best
Keith Best, 79, a former resident of Estes Park, died at the Hallmark Nursing Home in Denver on Sunday, Jan 19, 2003.
Best was born on April 23, 1923, in Denver, Colo., to Carl and Isobel Best.
Best was a graduate of the University of Denver and a former member of the military.
His family purchased a cabin in Estes Park more than 40 years ago, and Best had lived in the area full-time for more than 10 years.
He worked for and retired from BFS, an envelope inserting machine business, Auto Typewriters and Wheel Horse Tractor Sales.
As a resident of Estes Park, Best enjoyed fishing on Lake Estes and dining in local restaurants.
Best was a Shriner and a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his son William E. Best.
Survivors include daughter Donna Jewell of Arvada, Colo.; daughter Tina Bartlett of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren Carl Best of Germany, Misty Jewell of Arvada, and Joseph Tarre of Tennessee; two great-grandchildren Carl Best, Jr. of Germany and McKena Jewell of Arvada, Colo.; and nephew Bob Best Jr. of Greenwood Village, Colo.
Cremation has taken place.
Services will be held at a later date.
Olyer Ulysses "Sully" Sullivan
Olyer Ulysses "Sully" Sullivan, Jr., 86, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at the Prospect Park Living Center.
Sullivan was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Clinton, Miss., where his father and mother were attending seminary. His boyhood was spent in many communities in Mississippi, while his father served as pastor of Baptist churches and superintendent of schools at various rural school systems.
The eldest of six children with a sickly mother, Sullivan helped to rear his brothers and sisters.
After two years of college, Sullivan moved to New Orleans where he met Alice Marie Lissard. Two years later, in 1941, they were married. He often joked that "We were married in August and the War started in December."
Sullivan joined the Air Force and was sent to the South Pacific as a navigator with a B-25 radar calibration team.
After the war, a myriad of job changes finally led to a career with Proctor and Gamble as a sales representative and manger in Cincinnati, Ohio, California and Chicago, Ill.
After having four children, the couple bought a business, M&J Schnaible Company, and settled in Lafayette, Ind. Sullivan served as county chairman of the G.O.P in Tippecanoe. He was very successful in organizing, getting out the vote and electing Republicans. He ran for Congress in 1968 and for mayor in 1970, but was considered a "carpet-bagger" from Democratic Mississippi, and the "local boy" won both races. During their 25-year stay, the couple became an integral part of the arts, political and civic scene of Indiana.
In 1984, they retired to Estes Park, where they had vacationed each summer at the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center, since 1957. To fill all those free hours of retirement, Sullivan became involved in part-time jobs and volunteer projects, between hike to many nearby summits. He climbed Longs Peak at the age of 60.
He was a 40-year member of Kiwanis, an active member of the United Methodist Church of Estes Park and served as a Chamber of Commerce Red Coat for many years.
Survivors include his wife Alice; four children, Dick of Oakland, Calif., Molly of Estes Park, Jenny Radel and her husband Erle of Lahaina, Maui, and Katt Lissard and her husband Lewis Warsh of New York, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Rachel of Estes Park, and Carley and Claire of Noblesville, Ind.; numerous nephews and nieces including Charles "Biz" Sullivan of Jackson, Miss.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the United Methodist Church of Estes Park on Fish Hatchery Road.
Contributions may be made to the Prospect Park Living Center, Hospice of Estes Park, the Alzheimer’s Association or the United Methodist Church of Estes Park.
Leslie W. Kerr
Leslie W. Kerr, 81, of Albany, N.Y., died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Kerr was born in Elyria, Ohio, on April 21, 1921, to Leslie W. and Harriett (Davis) Kerr.
He had recevied a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Syracuse University and was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation from 1951 to 1983.
Kerr honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force. He served in the Army Air Force reserve from 1947 to 1950.
Kerr was a member of the Ancient Temple Lodge #14 F. & A.M. from 1978 to the present day, and he served as master in 1984, 1985 and 1995. His involvement within masonry were extensive, including membership in Temple Chapter #5, RAM Council Officers Association, Capital City Chapter #242, DeWitt Clinton Council #22 and Temple Commandry #2.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Albany, the AAONMS, Cyprus Temple where he was a member of the Greater Albany Shrine Club and Past Master Unit. He was also a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, York Rite College, Knight Masons, USA Glencairn Council #14, Allied Masonic Degrees, Giles Fonda Yates Council #22, Royal Order of Scotland, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Trinity Tabernacle XXIV, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine, Albany Conclave, Centurion Club, Yellow Dog Degree, Post #1 and Order of the Old Saratoga. And he served as a deacon and elder of the Greenbush Reformed Church.
Survivors include brother Charles L. Kerr and his wife Beverly of Estes Park, nephew William Kerr of Arlington, Texas; nephew Ward Kerr of Irving, Texas; niece Janice Biggar of Salem, Va.; niece Mary Thomison of San Antonio, Texas; niece Susan Heard of Quincy, Mass; nephew Matthew Kerr of Loveland, Colo.; and several grand nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, March 6, in Albany, N.Y., with interment following at the Saratoga National Cemetery
in Schuylerville, N.Y.

Betty Hockaday
Betty Hockaday, 79, of Estes Park, died April 2, 2003 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo.
Hockaday was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Bessie Bell Vernon and Archie Vernon. She graduated from high school in Hutchinson.
She married Robert G. Hockaday on July 26, 1942, in Hutchinson. The couple lived in Hutchinson until 1951 when they moved to Colorado Springs, where they lived until 1978 when they moved to Estes Park.
She and her husband founded Grandpa’s Gallery Inc., in Estes Park. Hockaday and her daughter operated the business until her death.
She was a pet lover and also loved gardening, playing the organ and traveling. She had a keen interest in politics and was an avid sports fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1993.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty Green of Estes Park; sisters, Wilma Stout of Las Cruces, N.M. and LeeAnn Wall of Union Mills, Ind.; granddaughters Alisa Green of Loveland and Laura Green of Denver. She is also survived by great-granddaughter Taylor and sister-in-law Beulah Sargent of Longmont.
Services will be Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Allnutt Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow.
Memorials may be made to the Best Friend Animal Sanctuary (a national animal rescue organization) or to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517.
Don Thompson
Donald L. Thompson, 60, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Thursday, March 27, 2003.
Thompson was born May 25, 1942, at a fish hatchery in Leadville, Colo. When he was young, his family moved to Buena Vista, Colo., where he lived for the remainder of his childhood. Early on, he developed a love for hunting and fishing with his father and brother. He also enjoyed pool and was an excellent snow and water skier.
Thompson played many sports in high school and excelled at most. While in high school, Thompson worked during the summers with his father building log cabins and serving as a "Jack of All Trades." During his college years, he worked summers (also with his father) at the Climax Molybdenum mine. Thompson valued his work experiences and his strong work ethic.
Thompson attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., where he studied accounting. After earning his master’s degree in accounting from Colorado State University, Thompson served as chief accountant for CSU. He went on to obtain his Certified Public Accountant certificate and operate his private practice in Fort Collins. Thompson’s firm thrived due to his interest in his clients, their businesses, and their personal finances. He displayed remarkable compassion for his elderly clients. He retired in 2000.
He is survived by his wife Joann (Jody); his mother, Hazelle Thompson of Buena Vista; sister Barbara Clark and husband Johnny of Fort Collins; brother Marvin Thompson and wife Susan of Erie, Colo.; sons from a prior marriage to Glenda McCall (Morrison), Bart Thompson and wife Betsy Nissen, and Garth Thompson and wife DeAnn, both of Fort Collins; stepsons, Kevin Matzdorff and his wife Teresa of Loveland, and Bryan Matzdorff and his wife Kim of Broomfield, Colo. He is also survived by granddaughters Laurel and Jennah Thompson of Fort Collins and grandsons, Carl Matzdorff, and Caleb and Joshua Thomas of Loveland.
Thompson was preceded in death by his father, Henry Thompson, to whom he was very close. His father passed away in 1973 at age 56 – a tragedy from which Thompson never fully recovered. However, he valued and exhibited many of his father’s strengths and traits.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at Resurrection Fellowship, 6502 E. Crossroads Blvd., Loveland. Donation to the Building Fund of Rocky Mountain Church, 541 G Big Thompson Avenue, Estes Park.
Sherry Louise Eastwood-Patton
Sherry Louise Eastwood-Patton, 57, of Arvada, Colo., died April 12, 2003, at St. Anthony’s North in Arvada. She was born Dec. 24, 1946 in Lyons, Colo., to Ronald and Elemetta Eastwood Snider. The family moved to Estes Park in 1959. She lived in the community until 1987. She was a graduate of Estes Park High School and attended Barnes Business College in Boulder for two years.
She married Mark Patton on June 13, 1974, in Estes Park. She was involved with interior decorating and gardening. Her favorite moments were spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a president of the accommodation committee in Estes Park and a member of the Estes Park Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother Elemetta; husband Mark Patton; son Aaron Patton; daughter Heather Patton-White; stepson Mario Martinez-Patton; stepdaughters Marla Patton-Roberts and Tamara Patton-Monroe. She is also survived by two brothers, Blaine Eastwood and Jeff Eastwood and six grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Lyons.
Dorothy Louise Seifert
Dorothy Louise Seifert, 85, of Estes Park, died June 24, 2003, at Estes Park Medical Center. She was born in Elvira, Iowa on Oct. 5, 1917, to Gustave and Anna Dohse. She married Gerald Patrick Seifert on May 16, 1938. He died on Dec. 18, 1979. She moved from Iowa to Littleton, Colo., in 1954, and had been a resident of Estes Park since 1992. She worked as a clerk at Safeway for 25 years.
She is survived by sons Robert Gene and his wife Mary Jo of Estes Park; James Alan and his wife Leona of Donahue, Iowa; daughter Janice Ann Johnson of Cody, Wyo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Littleton Cemetery.

Mary M. Douglas
Mary M. Douglas, 67, of Greeley, died June 22, 2003, at the Northern Colorado Medical Center Hospice Care Unit.
She was born April 27, 1936 in Muscatine, Iowa to Henry J. Drewes and Alma Marin Blohm. She married Howard Eli Douglas on June 10, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Douglas moved to Estes Park in 1964, from Rock Island, Ill. She was a secretary at Rocky Mountain National Park for 34 years. She moved to Greeley in July of 2001.
Douglas was a member of the Christian ministry in the National Parks. She was also a former member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estes Park.
She enjoyed reading, the mountains of Estes Park – especially Longs Peak. She also enjoyed staying in touch with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 3, 1969, and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Walter Douglas of Calhan, Colo.
Graveside services were held June 24, 2003, at Loveland Burial Park. A memorial service will be held July 1, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estes Park. Pastor Ron Nickel will officiate.
