Joy Ann Crabb

Accomplished homemaker, volunteer
Joy Ann (Arbogast) Crabb, former Brush resident, died Saturday, Aug. 23.
Mrs. Crabb was born May 13, 1933, to Mary and Lloyd Arbogast at home in Colbran, Colo. She grew up on a ranch along the Colorado River at Fruita. Mrs. Crabb graduated from Fruita High School in 1951 and moved to Denver to attend Barnes School of Business. She married Cecil Crabb on Dec. 7, 1952.
She was a homemaker and was accomplished and creative in her homemaking arts with talents including seamstress, gardening, cooking, home decorating and hand crafts. She was well educated and loved to use her articulate English language skills. Also, she loved spending time with kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading books, cooking, gardening and sewing.
Mrs. Crabb was active with many volunteer groups including the Blue Spruce Pioneers and the Lioness.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil; two daughters, Deborah Ann and Mary Lyn; one son, Brent Patrick; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 29, at the Newcomer West Chapel in Lakewood with the cremains inurned later at Fort Logan Cemetery.
Per Mrs. Crabb’s request, donations may be made in her name to one’s favorite nonprofit or charity. Her favorite charity was the Blue Spruce Pioneers and donations can be made to Quest Pioneers Blue Spruce LM Club, attention: Sarah Van Horne, 9269 Cornell Circle, Highlands Ranch, CO 80130.
Janice C. Norrish
1938 - 2008
Among co-founders of Fort Morgan State Bank
Janice C. Norrish, 69, died Friday evening at her home in Fort Morgan.
Mrs. Norrish was born Oct. 20, 1938, in Denver to Estel and Garnet Stevens. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1956 and attended Colorado Women’s College and later Western State College. She married Donald Norrish on Jan. 4, 1959, in Hudson. In 1970 the Norrish family moved to Fort Morgan. She worked several campaigns at the sugar factory. Later she worked in the banking profession. She was one of the co-founders and served as cashier of the Fort Morgan State Bank.
She was a member of the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church, Red Hats, Weight Watchers and sang with the “Glory Bees.” She enjoyed playing bridge, camping and spending time in the mountains, and dancing. Her favorite time was spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Fort Morgan; two children, Kerri Tuey of Fort Morgan and Stewart Norrish of Brush; one sister, Joan Johnston of Greeley; two brothers, Jack Stevens of Grand Junction and Jerry Stevens of Denver; a special friend and her caretaker during her illness, Peggy Perkins; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, 117 E. Bijou St. in Fort Morgan. Concluding service and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley at 2:30 p.m.

Joyce Marie Spencer
1948 - 2008
FMHS grad was hairdresser for 30 years
Joyce Marie “Queenie” Spencer, 59, of Greeley died Friday in the Hospice Inpatient Unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
Mrs. Spencer was born Dec. 9, 1948, to Margaret (Sanchez) Gabaldon in New Mexico. She was raised in Fort Morgan, where she graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1965. Mrs. Spencer moved to Denver for three years, where she attended and graduated from barber school. She moved to Greeley in 1973, where she was a hairdresser for 30 years.
She married Michael Spencer in Las Vegas, Nev., and moved to Ault in 1982.
Mrs. Spencer loved to golf and was a former member of the Eaton Country Club. She loved to shop, play dice, cribbage and checkers, go bowling and watch sports, especially golf.
She is survived by her son, Shon Reyez of Greeley; her daughters, Kristen Reyez, also of Greeley, Tracy Spencer of Eaton and Michelle Spencer of Texas; two brothers, Joe Gabaldon of Greeley and J. R. Alonzo of Fort Morgan; a sister, Dino Williams; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allnut Funeral Service - Macy Chapel in Greeley.

Harry O. Miller
1921 - 2008
FMHS graduate was World War II Army veteran
Harry O. Miller, 86, of Gardner, Mass., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, in The Highlands, Fitchburg, Mass., following a brief illness.
Miller was born in Concordia, Mo., on Oct. 23, 1921, to John and Erna (Pinkapank) Miller. He was a graduate of Fort Morgan High School.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Citation, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three bronze stars.
Before retiring in 1984, he was a fire alarm sales engineer, employed by Simplex Time Recorder in Gardner for 25 years.
He enjoyed walking, bike riding and meeting friends for coffee at McDonald’s. Miller was an avid reader and spent much time in the library. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying.
Miller was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and of the American Legion, Post 129, in Gardner.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa R. (Dubuc) of Gardner; two daughters, Yvette F. Buiwit of Gardner and Gail V. Ackerson of Templeton, Mass.; two brothers, Harvey Miller of Denver and Harold Miller of Lakewood; five sisters, Nora “Dickie” Riedel of Denver, Elsie Eckhardt, Dorothy Hobbs and Esther Bernhardt, all of Fort Morgan, and Bonnie August of Brush; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Miller was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert Miller and Clyde Miller, and two sisters, Mildred Feyerherm and Mirdie Wilhelmson.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gardner.
John W. McDougall
1949 - 2008
Worked for Leprino Foods for 27 years
John W. McDougall, 59, a resident of Fort Morgan, died Friday in Fort Morgan.
McDougall was born May 14, 1949, in Spokane, Wash. He moved from Spockton, Calif., to Fort Morgan in 1993. He worked for Leprino Foods for 27 years.
He married Nancy McDougall.
McDougall is survived by his wife, Nancy, two sons, Bill McDougall and Mike McDougall, and one sister, Suzanne Cervantes, all of Fort Morgan; three sisters, Loralee Truhls of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Nancy Eddy of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and K. Simmons of San Rafael, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kris Ann Clayton.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at The Sanctuary, 330 State St. in Fort Morgan.
Rodney L. Hedin
1933 - 2008
Driver eventually owned trucking company
Rodney L. Hedin, 75, died Saturday in Covington, Wash., at home following a lengthy illness.
Hedin was born June 2, 1933, in Two Harbors, Minn., to Arthur and Helen Hedin. He was raised in Two Harbors, where he graduated from high school. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Linda Wedlund of Knife River on Feb. 27, 1958. The family moved to Colorado where he began his occupation as a long haul truck driver, eventually owning his own trucking company, Hedin Trucking. He and his wife were divorced after 21 years. He later married Char Schauermann of Colorado.
He traveled to Arizona during the winter months and spent a great deal of time with his family during the summer months.
Survivors include his four children, Leanne LeNeau of Mahtowa, Minn., Gayle Hedin of Florence, Ariz., Gina Hedin of Covington, Wash., and Cody Hedin of Denver; his brothers, Vern Hedin and Lorne Hedin, and a sister, Janice Osbakken, all of Minnesota; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Samantha Scannell.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Knife River Lutheran Church in Minnesota.

Phyllis Marie Macneal
1919 - 2008
Nurse for Fort Morgan schools for 20 years
Phyllis Marie Macneal, 89, lifelong Fort Morgan resident, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the Valley View Villa Care Center in Fort Morgan.
She was born April 29, 1919, in Fort Morgan to H. J. and Olive C. (Erickson) Williams.
Phyllis was a nurse for the Fort Morgan School District for over 20 years.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan.
Phyllis was also a member of the VFW and was a 50-year member of PEO Chapter EG.
She enjoyed playing bridge, painting, gardening and doing various kinds of needlework, including knitting and embroidering.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Layton and husband Larry of Windsor and Mary Lou Macneal of Thornton; one son, Bob Macneal of Fort Collins; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William Macneal; one brother, Mauritz Williams; and two sisters, Gwen Pearson and Polly Stenback.
A Celebration of her life will be held Friday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the church. There will be a private inurnment in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado at 1106 E. 6th Ave, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.

Edward Alvy Hollister
1934 - 2008
Attended schools in Fort Morgan
Edward Alvy Hollister, 74, of Commerce City died Friday in Westminster.
Hollister was born July 17, 1934, in Denver to Derwood Hollister and Harriet (Burkhart) Hollister. Moving from Denver as a young child to Fort Morgan, he attended the local schools. He married Pearl Priest in Commerce City, moving to California where they raised their family.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Eskimo Radiator most of his life and later owned the Radiator Store in Denver.
Hollister loved woodworking, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his special friend, Judy White; daughters, DeeAnn Christopher of Fleming and Diane Climer of Biloxi, Miss.; sons, Edward Hollister of Brighton and Robert I. Hollister of Hudson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at his residence, 5480 E. 67th Ave. in Commerce City.

Nicholas James Silz
1952 - 2008
Owner of Silz Farms
Nicholas James Silz, 55, owner of Silz Farms, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Nov. 27, 2008, at his home in Fort Morgan.
Nick is the son of Heinz and Thea (Groves) Silz and was born Nov. 28, 1952, at the Fort Morgan Community Hospital. He married Susan Nelson in Fort Morgan on May 16, 1976.
Nick was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed a good game of golf and spent many hours working on his farm.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Silz of Fort Morgan; two sons, Matthew Silz and Layton Silz, both of Fort Morgan; three daughters, Lindsey Silz of Tallahassee, Fla., Alyson Silz of Fort Collins and Haleigh Silz of Fort Morgan; and two grandchildren, Anson and Livian Silz of Fort Morgan. He is also survived by three brothers, Heinz Silz of Golden, Martin Silz of Fort Morgan and Danny Silz of Wheat Ridge; two sisters, Sheila Monroe of Hemphill, Texas, and Janet Montel of Fort Morgan; his parents, Heinz and Thea Silz of Fort Morgan; and his mother-in-law, Gloria Nelson of Russell, Kan.
Nick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Theodore and Hazel Groves; his paternal grandparents, Otto and Anna Marie Silz; and his father-in law, W.L. Nelson.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Sherman St. in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan.
