Bessie Lucille Berry
1908 - 2008
Bessie Lucille Berry died on May 17, 2008, at Canon City, Colorado.
She was born on September 4, 1908 at Brush, Colorado. Bessie would have celebrated her 100th birthday this coming September. Bessie was the last surviving child of Newel Henry Ragsdale and Martha (Ottinger) Ragsdale of Brush. Her parents, six sisters, two brothers and her husband of 59 years W. T. “Bill” Berry, Sr. preceded her in death.
Bessie and “Bill” were married on November 29, 1925, at Fort Morgan, where in 1927 they opened their first automobile dealership, an Oakland-Pontiac agency. The couple moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1936 when Bessie’s husband “Bill” joined Jackson Chevrolet as New Car Sales Manager.
In 1944 with their two sons, W. T. Berry, Jr. and H. Lloyd Berry, Bessie and “Bill” moved to Canon City to open the Bill Berry Motor Co. which they operated for many years before turning the business over to their son Lloyd. Bessie was active in the automobile business for several years with her husband but was primarily a dedicated mother and home maker.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and a former member of the PTA and Rotary Ann’s. In her younger years, Bessie and her husband “Bill” were very active in civic affairs, supporting the Chamber of Commerce, St. Thomas Moore Hospital, Shadow Hills Golf Club, Royal Gorge Trail Riders, 4H, BPOE and the Fremont County Democratic Party.
Bessie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Wm. T., Jr. and Marianne Berry of Sun City West, Arizona, H. Lloyd & Catherine Berry of Canon City; grandchildren Tom Berry of Woodstock, Georgia, Anne L. Berry of Grandview, Washington, Susan Berry Koch of Tecumseh, Michigan, Robert Berry of Colorado, Mary Berry Paquette of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kenneth Berry of Canon City John Berry of Littleton, Colorado and Donald Berry of Canon City. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and five-great-great grandchildren
Internment was at Brush Memorial Cemetery
on Monday, June 2, 2008, with the Reverend Dr. Harold W. Anderson presiding over a private grave side service.
Shirley Peranni
Shirley Ann Peranni, 60, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on May 26 2008.
She is survived by her three children and their families, five grandsons, two granddaughters, her older brother, John Stafford and younger sister, Cathy Vigil, both of Morgan County.
A Celebration of Her Life memorial service was held at Crown Hill, 29th & Wadsworth on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2 p.m.
Robert Dewain Miller, Fort Morgan
1941 - 2008
Robert Dewain Miller, 66, lifelong area resident, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, in Fort Morgan.
Robert was born October 12, 1941 in Fort Morgan to William and Clara (Fritz) Miller.
He enjoyed watching baseball, traveling and gardening. Robert once rode his bicycle from Fort Morgan to Mexico City, Mexico.
Robert was a good friend and neighbor and helped the people in his neighborhood by watching their houses when they were gone or by taking care of their gardens and mowing their lawns.
Survivors include two brothers, Harold Miller of Kiowa, Colorado and William J. Jr. Miller of Lafayette, Colorado, two sisters, Vivian Hergenreder of Commerce City, Colorado and Gladys Davis of Ft. Collins, Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty Babcock and a sister that died in infancy.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan.
Inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium.

Edith Peterson, Snyder-Brush
1915 - 2008
Edith Peterson, 92, longtime resident of Snyder – Brush communities, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush.
She was born August 15, 1915, to Swedish immigrants Carl “Chas” and Othilia Carlson.
The Carlson family moved to the Johnstown/Mead community when Edith was a child. Edith attended area schools and after graduation from Johnstown High School in 1933, she went on to further her education at Colorado State Teachers’ College in Greeley.
Edith began teaching in a one-room school in the Antelope Springs community north of Snyder. Because at the time women teachers were required to be single, she and Maurice Peterson eloped to Kimball, NE to be married in secret.
She finished the school term and then became a farm wife.
During the time Edith was raising her family, she also finished her education by receiving her bachelors degree from Colorado State College of Education. She returned to teaching in 1955 when her youngest child started to school.
She taught at several grade levels in the Snyder school district and when the elementary school was closed because of reorganization, she started teaching in Brush. She retired in 1976.
In 1981, Edith and Maurice moving into Brush making certain they purchased a home large enough to entertain all the family at the gatherings which were so important to them.
Edith helped out with farm work as a child and during her married life.
She loved bowling, being one of the founders of the Brush Women’s Bowling Association, loved embroidery work (especially making quilts), and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her five children, Pat Gleason, Sharon George, Ron Peterson and Gary Peterson all of Brush, and Linnea (Skeet) Wilson of Fort Collins; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, a sister, Lillie Carlson and a brother ,Charles Carlson, and her parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 603 Custer Street in Brush.
Interment was in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation was at the Heer Mortuary in Brush on Sunday, May 25, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mervin L. Anderson, Brush
1926 - 2008
Mervin L. Anderson, 81, of Brush, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush after a seven month battle with cancer.
Mervin was born in Powers Lake, North Dakota on August 2, 1926 to Hans Christian and Lydia (Broughton) Anderson.
He attended Central Bible School in Springfield, MO and was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. During that time, he sang bass with a traveling quartet.
He came to the Brush area in 1949 and then married Doris Thomas on June 4, 1950.
Mervin and Doris began their ministerial service in Cope, CO and recently served as interim pastors in the same town. Mervin was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years. He was a charter member of the volunteer Morgan County Ambulance Service and served for 19 years.
He most recently was employed by Eben Ezer and drove the van for Eben Ezer residents, which he enjoyed greatly.
On April 29, 2008, Mervin and Doris received the Morgan County award, Angels Among Us , for their community service.
Among other contributions, Mervin served for a time on the Brush Tree Board.
In 1960 and 1961, Mervin helped construct the Brush Calvary Assembly Church, where he was a faithful member throughout his life, ending his service to the church and community as a Care Minister.
He was a frequent soloist and a member of the church choir, as well as of the Morgan County Chorale and the King’s Choir.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Brush and four daughters, Cherrie William and husband Gene, of Ellendale, ND, Marie Engquist and husband Jerry, of Aurora, CO, Frankie Anderson of Denver, and Merlene Scalise and husband Dan, of Brush. He is also survived by one sister, Kathryn Lefler and husband John, seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Mervin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God in Brush.
A public visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be given in Mervin’s name to the Calvary Assembly of God.

Shawn Stahn, Akron
1971 - 2008
Shawn Allen Stahn, born August 1, 1971, was unexpectedly taken on July 6, 2008.
Born in Dumas, Texas to Dennis and Elsie Stahn, the family relocated to Colorado shortly after his birth.
After moving to Colorado, Shawn was baptized February 1986 in the Baptist Country Chapel in Lindon, Colorado.
He is survived by a loving wife and mother-to-be, Penny Stahn; father Dennis, mother Elsie; sister Marcy (John Cervantes); brothers Chris, Jason (Kirsten), and Andrew; grandmothers Betty Mason and Tillie Stahn; five nephews; father-in-law Jim Cunningham; mother-in-law Sheila Cunningham; sisters-in-law Julie (Julio DelaRosa) and Jamie (Josh Grant).
Shawn was an elementary student at Woodlin School and continued his education at Liberty High School graduating in 1990.
Shawn then joined the Marines in 1993 serving his country in the Black Sheep Squadron 214. During his time in service, he served in Somalia and other areas of the world. He was a highly decorated Sergeant.
One of his many duties in the service was as chief mechanic on the Harrier jets. His service in the Marines ended in 1998 with an honorable discharge in 2001.
Shawn and Penny met on October 9, 1999. They were married August 11, 2006.
The family will be expecting the birth of his child in December 2008.
Shawn is remembered for his kindness, passion, patience, and ability to love and give unconditionally.
Shawn enjoyed reading and being surrounded by his family and friends whether it was fishing, working on his various projects, or just enjoying the company of his family and friends.Shawn will be missed by many and loved by all.
A graveside service was held Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Akron Cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 10, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Brenner Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Doris M. Gulley
1921 - 2008
Doris M. Gulley, 87, life resident of the Kirk and Stratton, Colorado, communities, passed away late Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Brush.
She was born June 27, 1921, in Kirk, CO, to Gilbert and Helen Meade.
Following graduation from Kirk High School, Doris married Ralph Gulley.
Prior to retirement, Doris had worked as a clerk at the Kirk Post Office.
Doris was a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church. She had served as a local and state officer in the Home Demonstration Club, and was a 4-H Leader for many years.
She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and traveling with friends. She especially forward to spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Faith Cannady of Brush; one brother, Doran Meade of Canon City, Colorado; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Eldon; one sister, Jackie Smith; one brother, Dennis Meade, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirk United Methodist Church in Kirk, Colorado.
Interment will follow in the Kirk Cemetery.
Visitation was at the Heer Mortuary in Brush on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Bob Eisenach
1942 - 2008
Bob Eisenach, 66, life resident of the Fort Morgan community, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the Brighton Care Center in Brighton, CO after a long battle with Alzheimer s Disease.
Bob was born January 24, 1942, in Fort Morgan to Harry & Irene Eisenach.
At the age of nine, Bob and his family moved southwest of Fort Morgan and established a farming and cattle feeding operation.
Before graduating from Fort Morgan High School, Bob met his future bride and lifelong sweetheart, Linda Olson. They married September 15, 1962, in Fort Morgan.
After high school, Bob was elected State President of the Future Farmers of America.
He attended Colorado State University before becoming a full-time family farmer from 1962 to 1986.
Bob’s love for the Lord was exemplified by his steadfast commitment to Christ Congregational Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, and holding various church board positions.
His passion for community service was apparent through his election to the District RE-3 School Board followed by election to the office of Morgan County Commissioner.
He was then elected and re-elected to the position of State Representative of the 56th House District. His political involvement was capped when he accepted a presidential appointment as executive director fo the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency. He retired in 2000 due to his illness.
Bob was a lifetime member of Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, profoundly involved in the county, state and national levels. His dedication to agriculture was recognized by his induction into the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2004.
In 2006 he was inducted into the Colorado Legislative Hall of Fame of Progressive 15.
Survivors inclde his wife, Linda; four sons, Justin, and his wife Robyn, David, and his wife Jodie; Aaron, and his wife Cheryl; and John, and his wife Gina; one brother, Marlin, and his wife Karla; and his sister, Sandra Yearous, and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Bob’s life was Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Congregational Church, 730 Ensign Street in Fort Morgan.
Interment followed in Memory Gardens.

Robert “Bob” Leon Eisenach, 66, died Thursday, July 17, at the Brighton Care Center in Brighton, Colo., after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Bob was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Fort Morgan to Harry and Irene Eisenach. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Morgan.
Bob was raised on a family farm north of Fort Morgan. At the age of 9, his family moved southwest of town and established a farming and cattle-feeding operation.
