Josefina Flores, Brush, CO
1916 - 2008
She was born April 12, 1916, in Mexico to Lorenzo and Maria (Villegas) Pena.
She married Aurelio Flores on October 16, 1938.
Survivors include three sons, Adan Flores and Adolio Flores, both of Brush, and Antero Flores of Lamesa, TX; four daughters, Blanca San Miguel and Hilda Rincon, both of Brush, Anna Carrera of Greeley and Maria Hernandez of Kingsville, TX; one brother, Porfirio Pena of Brush; 32 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aurelio Flores, her parents; two sisters, Angelica Trevio and Socorro Soliz; and two grandsons, David Flores and Leroy Rincon.
Visitation was at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush on Friday, April 11, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary Vigil following at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan.
Interment followed in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.

James Craig Rudolph, Springfield, MO
1923 - 2008
He was born October 16, 1923, in Brush, Colorado. His parents, James Madison and Lucy May Craig Rudolph and on brother, John M. Rudolph, preceded him in death.
Craig graduated from Brush High School. An honor student, he played basketball and was in the band, where he played the clarinet and was awarded second place in a state contest his junior year.
Craig matriculated to Northwestern University his freshman year. That year he was the head drum major of Northwestern’s marching band. He joined Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Before his sophomore year, he was inducted into the Air Corps where he served as a bombardier until the end of World War II.
He returned to Northwestern, graduating from the Kellog School of Business with a B.A. in 1947.
While at Northwestern he was in an honorary fraternity, Purple Key, played intramural sports, and was elected “Man of the Year” which was a special honor in those days.
Also while at Northwestern, he met his future wife, June Bishop. They became engaged and were married that same year, August 23, 1947, in the Presbyterian Church in Casper, Wyoming.
Most of his business career was spent with Hallmark Cards where he started as a salesman in Denver, CO, and retired as their National Sales Manager at their headquarters in Kansas City, MO.
Upon retirement, he purchased a recruitment franchise, which brought him to Springfield, MO.
At one time he was a member of the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. Under Governor Ashcroft, he was a voluntary member of the State Accounting Board. He belonged to Cooper Tennis Club, qualifying to play in the Senior Olympics in San Antonio, Texas. He was also a member of the Springfield University Club.
He thoroughly enjoyed football, especially college games, where he had a special love for the Colorado Buffaloes.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; two daughters and their husbands, Maren and Paul Kazmierczak and Arlyn and Ray Silvey; two grandsons, Anthony and Craig Kazmierczak; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Beverly Ann Johnson; and three nieces also survive him.
A celebration/memorial service was held in First And Calvary Presbyterian Church at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
Visitation was Monday, January 28, 2008, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
Richard T. Pajanen, Brush, CO
1923 - 2008
He was born September 16, 1923, in Temple, NH to Nehe and Ida Pajanen. Richard served in the US Army in WW II in Germany and Switzerland.
On June 23, 1947, he married Irene Emery of Peterborough, NH, in New Ipswich, NH. He is the last surviving member of his original family including his parents and nine siblings.
Prior to his retirement, Richard was well known for the work he did as a stone mason and carpenter in New Hampshire.
His talents were endless. He mastered any project he decided to try, as in building homes, stone walls, brick and stone fireplaces, building furniture or any project with wood. He built his last house at the age of 70 in Wilton, NH.
He was always there to help any family member that needed something done.
He and his wife, Irene, moved to Colorado to be closer to their daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Jerry, and grandson, Richard and his family. They loved to travel and drove all over New England on a regular basis and across country many times.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Brush; one daughter, Nancy Quinn, and her husband, Jerry, of Brush; one grandson, Richard, and his wife Betty; and three great-grandchildren, Brooks, Brittani, and Carissa.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush.
Concluding services and inurnment will be in Temple, NH, at a later date.

Elva Ann Paulsen, Littleton, CO
1921 - 2008
Formerly of Littleton, she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Kieth Washburn, at the time of her death.
Mrs. Paulsen was born June 26, 1921 near Winside, Nebraska to Elmer and Maude (James) Fisher.
She attended rural schools, spending summers taking piano lessons and cultivating dry land corn crops with a team of work horses. She served as a teacher’s assistant in the pre-school at Wayne State Teacher’s College, working her way through at ten cents an hour.
After earning her degree in music education in 1942, she taught vocal music and English in Wausa, Laurel, and Hartington, Nebraska. Her choirs consistently won superior ratings in competitions.
Following her marriage to Leslie Clarence Paulsen on August 29, 1948, the couple moved to Denver, CO, and later to Littleton.
In addition to her work as a homemaker, she assisted her husband in his two businesses.
They both enjoyed traveling and visited every state and continent except Antarctica, traveling by plane, train, car, ship, and hot air balloon, as well as by elephant and camel.
Elva was a private piano teacher for 58 years until her retirement in June 2007.
She was active in the South Suburban Music Teachers Association, was a state-certified piano teacher, and member of National Guild of Piano Teachers.
A devout Christian, she served on numerous church committees at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton and Grace Point Community Church and sang in church choirs a total of 57 years.
Although she had retired from her piano-teaching profession, she never retired from her ministry of prayer, spending time each day with her prayer list and Bible study.
Preceding Mrs. Paulsen in death were her parents; an infant sister, Betty Jane; a brother, Marlin; and a grandson, Enoch Allen Washburn.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Marcia Washburn of Fort Morgan and April (Mrs. Tom) Chaffin of Ft. Collins; two granddaughters, Tammy Roof of Socorro, NM and Clara Chaffin of Flagstaff, NM; five grandsons, Philip Washburn of Orlando, FL; Nathanael (Nate) Washburn of Draper, UT; John Washburn of Greeley; Josiah Washburn of Florence, AZ; and Timothy Washburn of Ft. Collins; two great-granddaughters, Kailey and Natalie of Draper, UT; and her sister, Lila Jackson of Wakefield, NE.
A viewing was held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Heer Chapel in Fort Morgan; a memorial service and hymn sing was held Sunday evening at Life Fellowship Church of Fort Morgan (west building) at 6 p.m.
There was a viewing on Monday morning, April 21, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at Gracepoint Community Church, 90 E. Orchard Rd., Littleton, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. and internment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery
at 2 p.m.
Heer Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Anna Lucile Fritzler, Brush, CO
1924 - 2008
Mrs. Fritzler was born September 20, 1924, in Pratt, Kansas, to Andrew and Alice (Boynton) Nissen.
She married Paul S. Fritzler Sr. on September 2, 1943, in Pratt. They farmed at Bennett for four years and then bought a farm in Deer Trail and lived there for over 30 years. They also owned and farmed land in Byers.
After leaving Deer Trail, they lived in Byers and Hoyt before settling in Wiggins in 1988.
Anna was a member of the Pratt Methodist Church where she also taught Bible study for a number of years. She was also a member of a Home Demonstration Club in Deer Trail, and the Long Meadow Women’s Club in Hoyt.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, knitting, hunting, fishing and playing the piano.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Fritzler of Byers and Kenneth Fritzler of Bennett; two daughters, Lucile Story of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Marjorie Polanchek of Belfield, N.D.; two sisters, Karen Whinney of Kansas City, Kan., and Vera Wilcox of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; one brother, Lorenzo Nissen; one sister, Virginia Roush; and a great-granddaughter, Cera.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Byers.

Jane M. Scherff, Brush
1909 - 2008
Jane M. Scherff passed from this life at Eben Ezer Care Center in Brush, Colorado, on Monday, April 28, 2008, at the age of 98.
She was born December 19, 1909 near Tecumseh, Missouri, to John and Eliza Davis.
She joined the General Baptist Church at Dawt, Missouri when she was 13 years of age. She received her elementary education in a rural school at Dawt, Missouri.
She then attended high school at Gainesville, Missouri, and went on to Springfield Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri. She taught school in Qzark and Howell Counties for seven years.
Jane married Angus Scherff on January 7, 1933. Two daughters were born to this union, Betty Goodman and Rosalie Pendergrast.
Her husband and youngest daughter, Rosalie, preceded her in death. Her parents, three brothers, Clarence, Homer and Cleon and sisters, Othie Shipley and Edna Lewis also preceded her.
Jane, Angus, and girls moved to Nebraska in 1941 where they farmed and ranched. In 1947, they purchased a farm and ranch south of Akron, Colorado.
The family joined the Presbyterian Church, in Akron, in 1949.
She remained active in the church as long as her health permitted. She also served as chairwoman of the REA Task Force in Colorado, and was active on the national level.
She was a talented seamstress, good cook and loved gardening. She also was an accomplished poet and an avid reader.
She is deeply missed.
A memorial service was conducted on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 10 a.m., at Brenner Funeral Home in Akron.
Inurnment immediately followed at the Akron Cemetery.
