Elvin Buck
Clyde Elvin Buck was born at the family home on June 1, 1937, to Clyde and Elsie Kelley Buck and departed to be with the Lord on September 2, 2007 at the age of 70 plus years. Except for a few years while attending college, he lived in Eads, Colorado engaged in the farming and ranching business. On April 24, 1989, his daughter Jessica Mae Buck was born and has been the joy of his life. Watching and being involved with her growing up has been special to him.
Elvin's life was one of service. As a child, even though he was limited because of rheumatic fever, he helped his folks on the farm helping wherever possible. His experiences in childhood and the strong work ethic that was instilled in him enabled him to cope with the challenges that would occur in his adult life. Elvin was honored as the 1987 Conservationist of the year for the Lower Arkansas Valley Watershed. He was active in the Eads Lions Club for several years., was a long-time member of the Odd Fellow and Rebecca Lodge, and served on the Eads Consumer Supply Company board of directors. He also served on the Selective Service Board for 20 years.
In his youth and teenage years he was involved with 4-H and more than once produced the Grand Champion market steer at the Kiowa County Fair.
He was active at First Christian Church in Eads as a child and at the time of his death belonged to and served as a Deacon at the Northside Christian Church in Pueblo, Colorado. He loved and was loved by his church family and was a faithful servant to his God.
Family was important to Elvin and he enjoyed spending time and doing things together. One thing he really looked forward to was cruises with his family and had just returned from an Alaskan cruise the end of July with his daughter, Jess, and several family members and friends. He also had been on a couple of cruises in the Caribbean, one with all of his siblings in 2005.
Uncle Elvin was a favorite of the nieces and nephews; they all loved to go to the farm during the summer and help, and even though they probably made more work than help, you would find them there every summer. He taught them work ethics, responsibility, and how to work as a team.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Elsie Buck, brothers Gailen Buck and Robert (Short) Buck, and nephew Chris Buck and niece Sonja Buck. He is survived by his daughter Jessica of Eads, sisters Pat and Mel Gramm of Denver, Shirley and Jim Leinberger of Arvada and Florence and Calvin Covalt of New Iberia, Louisiana, brothers Jim and Liz Buck of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Ed and Lil Buck of Sterling, sister-in-law Lola Buck of Castle Rock. He also is survived by nine nephews and three nieces, and several great nephews and great nieces. He was also survived by Aunts Ruth and Ruby Wissel of Eads, Evelyn Buck of San Diego, California, Edith Kelley of Pomona, California, and an Uncle, Keith Wissel of Eads.
Services for El were held at 1:30 PM at the Eads First Christian Church with Neill Snyder of the Northside Christian Church officiating. Musical selections were "When I get to where I'm Going", "He Knows My Name", "Please Remember Me", and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" with Tim and Sylvia Weeks singing as a duet along with Love Liebl accompanying on the piano.
Interment followed the church service at the Eads Cemetery.
Prior to the church service the family gathered at the Eads United Methodist Church to share in the memorial meal prepared and served by the ladies of the First Christian Church and the Eads Community.
Pall Bearers are nephews Kevin Buck, Glenn Carley, James Carley, Robert Buck, Patrick Hansen and friend Wally Mosher. Honorary Pall Bearers are Frank Osborne, Keith Fry, Jim Riddley, Duane Greenfield, Marvin Drews, Ray Garnett, and Gene Baugh.
Mary Alice Broyles
A Graveside Service for longtime Lamar resident, Mary Alice Broyles was held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Fairmount Cemetery
with Reverend Trevor Potter of the Wiley United Methodist Church Officiating
Per Ms. Broyles' request there will be no public visitation.
Mary Alice was born on November 30, 1918 to Porter Jack and Nellie Dean (Callihan) Callahan near Stonington, Colorado and passed away on October 14, 2008 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side. Mary Alice was 89.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jake Broyles, her parents, siblings, Mildred White, Lois Hume, Wayne Callahan, John Callahan, P.J. Callahan and Charles Callahan.
Mary Alice is survived by her children; Freya (Ron) Oakes of Aurora, CO, Marguerite Broyles of Lamar, Bill (Karen Voepel) Broyles of Lamar and Jake (Tracie) Broyles of Hermiston, OR. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Kim Tempel, Jef (Cheryl) Vratny, Lisa (Damon) Vratny-Smith, Jonas Tempel, Gina (Jeff) Broyles Lane, Sarah (David) Nettles and Zachary Broyles, 7 great grandchildren; as well as her siblings; Lyman Callahan of Springfield, CO, and Patricia Guirlani of Jackson, CA.
The Broyles family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice Association and to friends and family for their wonderful support. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice Association either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
Effie L Brooks
A Service of Celebration for longtime Lamar/Bristol area resident, Effie L. Brooks was held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation for Ms. Brooks was held, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 1:00 until 7:00 PM and Wednesday until service time at the Peacock Funeral Home.
Effie was born on January 31, 1928 at Eckmansville, Ohio to Chris and Orabelle (Hartman) Albright. Effie passed away at her home with her family by her side on April 11, 2009 at the age of 81.
Effie is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dean W. Brooks on September 4, 2005, parents, grandson, Patrick Brooks, sister, Louella Snell, daughter-in-law, Nina Brooks and her brother-in-law; Jim Rehfeld.
She is survived by her children; Kenneth (Carol) Brooks of Lamar, Jeffrey (Debbie) Brooks of Loveland, CO and Michael (LeeAnn) Brooks of Lamar. Eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sisters; Lizzie Rehfeld of Lamar, Lois Albright and Pauline Arnold both of Greenville, Ohio. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Peacock Family.
Irene M. Brookhart
Irene May (Orr) Brookhart, the oldest of four children, was born to Arnold A. and Rosie Jane (Moss) Orr on April 22, 1917 at their home in Maries County near Meta, Missouri.
In 1920, at the age of three, Irene and her parents moved to Lamar by train where her father began farming between Wiley and McClave. Irene attended the two-room Enterprise School and graduated from McClave High School in 1934.
On April 18, 1937, Irene was united in marriage to Harry A. Brookhart in the Brethren Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado. To this union, three sons were born: Byron, Donald and Clifford.
Following the war, the Brookharts moved to Lamar where they raised their family and became actively involved in the community for over 50 years. They cared deeply for the Lamar community and often expressed their feelings that Lamar had been good to them and how much they enjoyed spending their lives here. Irene worked at the Prowers County Courthouse for many years and eventually joined Harry in his Farmers Insurance Agency. They were long time members of the Lamar Christian Church, the Lamar Senior Center, the Lamar High School Booster Club and were honored as King and Queen of Lamar Days by The Zonta Club.
Irene was an active volunteer in the community for many years. She served on the Board of the Lower Arkansas Valley Area Agency on Aging, was a past President of the Senior Center, was Legislative Chairman for the Lamar Chapter of AARP and was a volunteer with the Senior Health Insurance Assistant Program and Community Health Fairs. Many families throughout the Lamar area will remember her as a mentor and for her long time assistance in helping seniors with income tax forms, answering MedicarelMedicaid questions and helping them to apply for property, heat and rent rebates, and other assistance programs available to seniors. Until the time of her death at age 91, she also helped seniors qualify and obtain Medical Alert equipment to summon emergency medical help so they could continue to live independently in their homes.
She and Harry shared over 60 years of marriage. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Brookhart who passed away on December 7,2002; her parents, Arnold and Rosie Orr; and her brothers, Arnold Jr, and James Orr.
She is survived by her sons and their wives: Byron and Gail Brookhart of Parker, CO, Donald and Marie Brookhart of Lamar, CO and Clifford and Linda Brookhart of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and her sister and husband, Lela and Lee Centner of Lamar, CO as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Irene’s Life was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Lamar Christian Church with Ian Blacker officiating. Interment was held at Fairmount Cemetery.
Musical selections were “In the Garden” and “One Day at a Time” which were sung by Gail Specht who accompanied herself on the guitar. Providing prelude and postlude selections were Ms. Leda Grahn.
Serving as casket bearers were Monte Ausmus, Ken Smartt, Les Scriven, Russ Hobden, Greg Ausmus and Louie White.
Following the graveside service and closing prayers, the Brookhart Family returned to the church to share in the memorial meal provided by the ladies of the Christian Church.
At her request, the family asks that Memorial contributions be made to the Lamar Christian Church.
W.P. "Willie" Bridge
A Memorial Celebration for W.P. “Willie” Bridge, 83, Longtime Lamar Resident and WWII Veteran was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating. A graveside service with full military honors was held at the Veteran’s Section of Fairmount Cemetery
under the auspices of the Lamar VFW, St. George Creaghe Jr., Post #3621
W.P. was born on September 23, 1923 at Quincy, Illinois and passed away on June 6, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Ethel (Augustine) Bridge, his two brothers, Marley Bridge and Jerry Bridge and his sister, Thelma Gray.
Mr. Bridge is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline of the family home, children; Randy (Donna) Bridge of Lamar, Christina Williams of Cisco, TX, Doug Bridge of Holly, CO, and Don Bridge of Phoenix, AZ. His grandchildren; Rendi (Cliff) Tayloe, Trevor Bridge, Shelley Williams, Brad (Jill) Williams, Shawna Hodge and Troy Williams, David (Eve) Bridge, Michael Bridge, Jonathon Bridge, Summer (Steve) Street and Brandi (Chris) Hutto. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Casey, Chalis, Cade, Cole, Clay, Brooklyn, Billy, Cirstye and Colby, Loren, Luke and Zoe as well as his two brothers-in-law, John Peterson of Lamar and Elmer Peterson of Crescent City, CA.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Prowers County Veterans Transportation Fund in care of the Peacock Funeral Home.
Doris Downing
A Service of Celebration was held for Doris Downing at 10:00 A. M., Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Wiley United Methodist Church with the Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. Interment followed at the Wiley Cemetery.
Doris passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007 in Colorado Springs at the St. Francis Pikes Peak Hospice at the age of 75.
Doris Lucille Dunn was born in Matheson, Colorado to Ray and Florence Yoder Dunn, on Friday, May 27, 1932. Doris was raised in Lamar, Colorado where she attended high school. On August 20, 1949 she married Floyd Eugene Downing and moved to Wiley and that is where she resided until her death. Doris loved to worship and enjoyed reading her Bible and was very active in the United Methodist Church in Wiley. She had a spirit about her that was so very special. Doris was a hard worker and could cook like no other. For 27 years she was the head cook and prepared meals for thousands of children who attended the Wiley School District during these years. Doris was known around Wiley for her cinnamon rolls. They would bring good money when auctioned off for special benefits. She was also active in numerous organizations around the community. Doris loved to be with her friends and would challenge you to a good game of "marbles." She was very much loved and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends to whom she devoted her life.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Floyd, her children Linda (Steve) Garver of Milliken, Colorado; Mike (Berta) Downing of Lamar; Sandy (Mike) Brown of Littleton, Don (Joy) Downing of McClave; a brother, Roy Dunn of Claremore, Oklahoma, a sister, Dee Osban of Pueblo, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wiley United Methodist Church, direct or in care of Peacock Funeral Home.
Nathan Kirkwood Dickson
A Service of Celebration for Lamar Resident, Nathan K. Dickson was held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery.
Nathan was born May 27, 1981 at Guymon, Oklahoma to Mick and Carleta (Hughes) Schwartz and passed away at his home on October 4, 2008 at the age of 27.
There will be no public visitation, a private family gathering will be held for family only.
Nathan is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Earl and Rita (Hughes) Wagner, and great grandparents Clell and Odie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Jones of Lamar; son, Traigen Dickson of Lamar, unborn son, Uriah Evan Dickson, parents; Carleta (Mick) Schwartz of Lamar, brother; Brian Schwartz of Colorado Springs, and sisters Amy Schwartz of Detroit, Michigan and Kati Dickson of Lamar. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents Dean (Patsy) Schwartz, uncle; Rodney (Erma) Hughes of Bentonville, Arkansas, grandparents; Kathy (Jack) Nutt of Springfield, CO, step-father Dave Dickson of Tempe, Arizona, and maternal grandfather; Carl Hatfield of Avoca, Arkansas. Many cousins, friends and other family also survive.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nathan Dickson Memorial Fund through First National Bank and/or in care of the funeral home office.
Consuelo Diaz
A Memorial Mass was held at 4:00 PM, Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. Francis de Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Reverend Martin Frias officiating. A Rosary Service was held prior to the Mass beginning at 3:30 PM.
Mrs. Diaz was born May 27, 1927 at Venecia, Mexico to Procopio and Petra (Adame) Gonzalez. Consuelo passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side. She was 79 years old.
She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, her parents, a brother, Juan Cazarez and two sisters, Julia Chairez and Francisca Cazarez.
Consuelo is survived by her husband, Odilon Diaz-Reyes, her four children; Odilon (Guadalupe) Diaz, Jr. of Lamar, Lauro Diaz of Juarez, Mexico, Irene (Margarito) Chairez of Salina, CA, and Jose Antonio DeLaCruz of Denver. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and her brother, Francisco Cazarez of Gomez Palacio, Mexico.
Isaac Delarosa
Isaac Delarosa was born March 8, 1977 in Lamar, Colorado to the late Joe Lee “Goldie” Delarosa and Aurora “Nana” Gomez. He departed this life May 14, 2007 at the age of 30 in Odessa, Texas
Isaac was raised in Lamar an dwas a constant visitor of Granada always visiting family and friends.
He is the loveing father of 2 young children which he and his long time wife Ana Sierra have Tyreke (9) and baby Tatum (1). He always had his children close to his side know matter where he was.
Survivors include his mother Aurora Gomez of Muleshoe, TX, 7 brothers and sisters including, Elias (Aimee) Carrasco and their children; Perla, Elias Jr., Uriel and Isis all of Odessa, TX, Elodia (Ramon) Holguin and their children; Eva, Ana, Jesus and Joe all of Leoti, KS, Sonia (Erik) Lopez and children; Steven, Joshua, both of Odessa TX, Samantha, Marina and JoAngel of Muleshoe, TX, Laura Carrasco and her children; Angelica, Esmerelda, Christopher, Krystal, Luis and Laura all of Granada, CO, Jesus (Marie) Carrasco and their children; Romei, Felisha and Lisa Marie all of Odessa, TX, Benny (Sandra) Carrasco and their children; Allan, Brandon, Ritchie and Gabby all of Odessa, TX, Juanita Delarosa and her children; Juanito and Fermin of Granada, CO and Jesse of Muleshoe, TX.
Isaac is preceded in death by his father Joe Lee “Goldie” Delarosa and both of his paternal grandparents Anastacio and Inez Delarosa and maternal grandmother Rita Gomez.
Isaac is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides of his family.
We would like to take this time to thank everyone for their constant flow of love and compassion in the loss of our “Baby Brother” Isaac.
He will be truly missed and always loved by all of us.
Dana Deisher
A service of celebration for Dana R. Deisher was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 20, 2007 at the Lamar United Methodist Church. Interment with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Lamar VFW, St. George Creaghe, Jr. Post #3621 was followed at Fairmount Cemetery. Per Dana’s request their was no public visitation.
Mr. Deisher, age 58, of Las Vegas, Nevada and former Lamar and Liberal, Kansas resident was born September 5, 1948 to Wilbur J. and Betty L. (Rose) Deisher and passed away at his home in Las Vegas with his family by his side on July 14, 2007 following his courageous battle with cancer.
Dana is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Betty Deisher.
He is survived by his brother W. James (Lynn) Deisher of Falmouth, Massachusetts, close friend, Linda K. Deisher of Las Vegas, NV, his nephew Bryon James Deisher and niece, Kimberly Lynn Deisher both of Portland, Oregon as well and aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.
Dana was born a concoctor, a deviser and contriver, who put those traits to use as a field engineering supervisor for Colorado Interstate Gas Company.
As a youth, he favored the science, and when toys were scarce, he would invent or build things he, his brother, and his friends enjoyed time and again.
With High School completed in Lamar in 1966, he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Science from Colorado State University in 1970.
He served as a crew chief door gunner on a “Huey” helicopter in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972, and back home again as a National Guardsman through 1973.
He went to work with his brother Jim, as a carpenter for a year before signing onto his career with Colorado Interstate Gas Company, for 28 years. While located out of Amarillo Texas, Rawlins Wyoming, and Liberal Kansas, he traveled back to Lamar often to care for his father Wilbur and his mother Betty.
Dana married Linda of Rawlins in 1983-1989, and they were still good friends.
Cancer visited Dana for the first time in 1990 and he remained free of it until 2006. With early retirement, he moved to Las Vegas in 2002 to build his “dream” home and to do some free lance work in the area.
With a medical exam for an ear infection, the doctors discovered cancer had returned. For the last year Dana had struggled through a host of procedures, with at least four specialists from the medical profession in Las Vegas.
Dana will be missed by all those who were blessed to know him, and his spirit will always live on in our hearts.
We love you Dana, God bless you and keep you.
