Everett W. Ayers
February 13, 1917 - January 7, 2004
CEDAREDGE - Longtime Delta County resident, Everett W. Ayers, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at his residence in Cedaredge, Colorado. He was 86.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., before the services on Monday, January 12th. Funeral services for Mr. Ayers will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints, Cedaredge, Colorado. Brother Delwin Bates will officiate. Burial will follow at the Cedaredge Cemetery.
Everett Wesley Ayers was born on February 13, 1917, to Benjamin Harrison and Etta Vern (Holley) Ayers in Gerster, Missouri. He spent his childhood in Missouri and attended schools there. In 1937, he moved to Mina, Nevada.
Everett married June M. Ford on June 24, 1939, in Hawthorne, Nevada. They moved to Nucla, Colorado, in 1947, and then moved to Delta in 1955. In 1960, they moved to Cedaredge where they have resided since then.
Mr. Ayers was a member of the Cedaredge Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints. He was a miner and also owned and operated his own trucking business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, prospecting, woodworking, traveling, and being a rock hound.
Those grateful to have been a part of Everett’s life include his wife of sixty - four years, June, of Cedaredge, CO; a son, Lloyd Ayers and his wife Lena of Battle Mountain, NV; a daughter Billie J. Farley and husband Craig of Cedaredge, CO; five grandchildren: Kenna Smith of Cedaredge, CO, Sandra Trotter and husband George of Denver, CO, Craig Farley and Nick Ayers of Battle Mountain, NV, and Lisa Ayers of Sparks, NV. He is further survived by twelve great - grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lenora Ricci; and an infant brother, Cecil Ayers.
Memorial contributions may be made in Everett’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Wanda O. Dickson
September 24, 1919 - January 5, 2004
DELTA - Delta County resident, Wanda O. Dickson, died on Monday, January 5, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Ladera Ranch. She was 84.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 11:00 a.m Friday, January 9, 2004, at the Delta United Methodist Church with Pastor Vernon Dockter officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery, Cedaredge, Colorado. Wanda O. Downs was born on September 24, 1919, to W.A. and Loma Mae (Lee) Downs at Jetmore, Kansas.
Wanda married Norman E. Dickson on April 26, 1941, in Pueblo, Colorado. They lived in Downey, California from 1942 to 1980, when they moved to Cedaredge, Colorado.
They lived in Cedaredge until 1991, when they moved to Delta. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1995, in Delta, Colorado.
Mrs. Dickson was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing yard work and going fishing. She was very gifted in the art of making dolls.
Those grateful to have shared in Wanda’s life include a son, Jay Earl Dickson and his wife Nichole of Chino Hills, CA; two daughters: Cleta Mae Lender of Ladera Ranch, CA, and Donna L. Olsen of Huntington Beach, CA; two granddaughters: Christine Hope Hokama and husband Michael of Ladera Ranch ,CA, and Devan of Chino Hills, CA; a sister, Viola “Vi” Burkey of Yuba City, CA; and a nephew, Merv Akin and his wife Carol of Yuba City,CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; a brother, Harold Downs; and a sister, Grace Best. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delta United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, P.O. Box Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Eleanor M. Tuttle
March 10, 1915 - January 4, 2004
HOTCHKISS - Life long North Fork resident, Eleanor M. Tuttle, died on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Paonia Care and Rehab Center in Paonia, Colorado. She was 88.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 10th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss. Aaron Clay will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Eleanor Mattie Booth was born on March 10, 1915, to Lewis and Effie (Nealy) Booth in Clayton, New Mexico. Her family moved to the North Fork area when she was a baby. She graduated from Paonia High School and has lived in Hotchkiss most of her life.
Eleanor was married to Glenwood Hallar. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1937. She married Vern O. Tuttle on April 2, 1939, in Moab, Utah. They lived in Maher, Colorado from 1939 to 1945, when they moved to Hotchkiss. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2000, in Paonia, Colorado.
Mrs. Tuttle enjoyed quilting, crafts, and all kinds of outdoor activities. She belonged to the Emblem Club in Hotchkiss and volunteered at the Hotchkiss Senior Center.
Those grateful to have shared in Eleanor’s life include a daughter, Glenrose Covey and her husband Jim of Escondido, CA; four sisters: Bernice Drake and her husband Dale of Hotchkiss, CO, Noma Vouga of Cedaredge, CO, Billie Oravez and her husband Dave of Boise, ID, and Jacque Kuta and her husband Dick of Delta, CO; four grandchildren: Terri Voorhees and her husband Joe of Craig, CO, Sherri Poust and her husband Steve of Grand Junction, CO, Brenda Schoenherr and her husband Jim of Grand Lake, CO, and Brett Kuretich and his wife Nikki of Cave Creek, AZ. She is further survived by ten great - grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern; one brother, Hubert Booth; a son - in - law, Robert (Butch) Kuretich, and one great - grandson, Sam Poust.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hotchkiss Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 455, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

Raydin Dee Heiniger
October 9, 2003 - January 1, 2004
CRAWFORD - Raydin Dee Heiniger, infant son of Cory and Shannon Heiniger, died on Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services for Raydin will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Chris Johnson will officiate. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
Raydin Dee Heiniger was born on October 9, 2003, to Cory and Shannon (Johnson) Heiniger in Delta, Colorado. He lived with his parents in Crawford, Colorado.
Raydin loved his family, and he especially loved laughing at his big brother, Kaden.
Those grateful to have shared in Raydin’s life include his parents, Cory and Shannon Heiniger of Crawford, CO; a brother, Kaden Dee Heiniger of Crawford, CO; maternal grandparents, Lance Trujillo of Hotchkiss, CO and Jose Trujillo of Crawford, CO; paternal grandparents, Ross and Vicki Heiniger of Crawford, CO. He is further survived by many aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.

Sharon Helmick
May 3, 1947 - December 31, 2003
Delta - Longtime Delta resident, Sharon Helmick passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. She was 56.
A memorial service for Mrs. Helmick will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2004 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta, CO with Father Mark Bettinger officiating.
Sharon was born on May 3, 1947 to David and Wanda Lou (Satterfield) Leonard in Washington, D.C. She spent her childhood traveling world wide in a military family. Her family moved to Delta, CO in 1963 and Sharon graduated from Delta High School in 1965. She attended college at Loretta’s Heights College in Denver and also attended Mesa State College graduating in 2002.
On December 9, 1967 in Cedaredge, Colorado, Sharon married the love of her life, Alan Helmick. He survives.
Mrs. Helmick was a homemaker, a student, and a swim instructor. Her hobbies included swimming, scuba diving, boating, gardening, plants, traveling, exercising (yoga & tai chi) and reading, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, her children and her grandchildren.
Sharon was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. She was also active with the theater at Mesa State College. She was a member of a bible study group, the Montrose Christian Women’s Club, a bridge club, and was also a tutor for Mesa State College.
Those grateful to have shared in her life are her husband, Alan Helmick of Delta, CO; one son, Alan C. Helmick, Jr. of Denver, CO; three daughters, Portia R. Vigil and her husband Joshua of Gunnison, CO; Wendy Lee Helmick also of Gunnison, CO, and Kristy Ann Burd and husband Jacob of Portland, OR; two brothers, David Leonard and wife Laurie of Fairbanks, AK and Mark Leonard and wife Sarah of Arvada, CO; three sisters, Irene Pruett and husband Mike of Rifle, CO, Wanda Allard of Cambridge, NY, and Darlene Leonard - Maguire and husband Mike of Portland, OR. Sharon is further survived by four grandchildren, Carolie, Abigail, Shoshana, and Wendy.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church c/o Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory, 800 Palmer St., Delta, CO 81416.

Ida B. Cook
July 28, 1910 - December 18, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Lifetime Surface Creek resident, Ida B. Cook, passed away on December 18, 2003, in Garland, Texas, where she moved to be near her daughter, Ida Lou. She died on her wedding anniversary, which would have marked seventy - four years this day. She was 93.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Cook at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge, Colorado. James Gall will officiate. Services will conclude at the Chapel. Inurnment will take place at the Cedaredge Cemetery.
Ida Blanche Buzzard was born to the late Charlie and Nora (Trickel) Buzzard on July 28, 1910, in Burley, Idaho. Four weeks after her birth, her family moved to Cedaredge, Colorado. Ida graduated from Cedaredge High School and spent most of her life in Cedaredge. In 2001, she went to Texas to be with her daughter. Her parents had been pioneers in Cedaredge in the 1880’s.
On December 18, 1929, Ida married the love of her life, Glen Leroy Cook, in Delta Colorado. He preceded her in death in January of 1965, in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Ida, a homemaker, was a member of the Cedaredge Alberta Rebekah Lodge # 106, the Rebekah Club, Cedar Mesa Club, the Birthday Club, and the Rose Garden Club. She enjoyed being with her family. Cooking was a specialty of hers, and she loved telling stories about her family history.
Those grateful to have shared in Ida’s life are two daughters: Ida Dedmon and husband Jim of Nevada, TX, and Glennis J McPherson of Mesa, AZ; two sisters: Louise Hilke of Cedaredge and Georgia Myers of Grand Junction, CO; She is further survived by eight grandchildren; thirteen great - grandchildren; twelve great - great - grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband Glen; her parents; one son at birth, Duane Cook; a daughter, Joanne Barrett; and a granddaughter, Michelle Dedmon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedaredge Alberta Rebekah Lodge # 106, P.O. Box 145, Cedaredge, CO 81413.

Glenn E. Daniels
December 19, 1925 - December 26, 2003
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Glenn E. Daniels died on Friday, December 26, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia, Colorado. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30th at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado, with James Gall officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted by Wilson Head American Legion Post # 97.
Glenn E. Daniels was born on December 19, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Allen Daniels in Oroville, California. He spent his childhood in Oroville. He attended schools in Banger, California, and graduated from Wyandott High School in 1941. Glenn lived in Wyandott on the family ranch until 1950, when he moved to Northern California. He lived in several different towns following the logging industry.
Glenn married Elsie Johnson on May 14, 1945, in Oakland, California. She traveled with him to Northern California where they lived until their move to the Paonia/Crawford area in 1966. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1988, in Farmington, New Mexico.
Mr. Daniels spent many years in the logging industry as a truck driver. He enjoyed oval track car racing, hunting and fishing.
Glenn served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
Those grateful to have shared in Glenn’s life include two sons: Bobby Daniels of Salt Lake City, UT, and Floyd “Tinker” Daniels and his wife Mary of Paonia, CO; and a brother, Harold Daniels and his wife Betty of Paonia, CO. He is further survived by five grandchildren, and five great - grandchildren; and a niece, Patty Johnson of Dunnigan, CA.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; his parents; and one brother, Milton Daniels.

Raymond White
May 3, 1910 - December 24, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Former longtime Hotchkiss fruit grower, Raymond White, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Littleton Hospital in Littleton, Colorado. He was 93.
A funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 29th at the Hotchkiss High School Commons Area. Carl Clay will preside. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Raymond White was born on May 3, 1910 in Norwood, Colorado to the late Robert M. and Esther (Isherwood) White. He spent his early childhood in Norwood. In 1925 the family moved to Hotchkiss when his father made a straight across trade for their general store in Norwood for an orchard on Rogers Mesa. He graduated from Hotchkiss High School and attended Colorado A. & M. in Fort Collins, Colorado for one year.
On November 8, 1936 in Paonia, Colorado Raymond was joined in marriage to Arlene Loretta Hammond. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2000.
Mr. White was a long time fruit grower on Rogers Mesa. He cleared the land of rocks and brush to increase the family orchard. He was known for his extensive knowledge of chemical thinning, spraying and detailed pruning. He played an instrumental part in developing and maintaining the irrigation projects for the North Fork Valley. He and his brother Melvin were partners in White Packing Company in Lazear until 1972 when the packing house burned, and they then became part owners of High Quality Packing in Delta.
Raymond was past president of the Leroux Creek Water Users Association, a former board of director of the North Fork Water Conservancy District and a lifetime member of the Horticultural Society. He was also a charter member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807. Among his interests, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and upon retiring he and Arlene spent 20 summers salmon fishing in Oregon. He enjoyed snowmobiles and at the adventurous age of 55, took up skiing.
Survivors include three daughters: Ludene Urquhart and husband Don of Castle Rock, CO, Hazel Lee MacKendrick and husband Dan of Grand Junction, and Charlene Price and husband Mike of Hotchkiss; one son: Bob White and his wife Eddy of Hotchkiss; and one brother, Aaron White and his wife Betty of Loveland, Colorado. Mr. White is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great - grandchildren and 2 great - great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, his parents, his sister, Hazel and his brothers, Lloyd and Melvin.
Memorials may be made to the Hotchkiss Museum Building Fund, P.O. Box 724, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Neysa G. Hess
June 12, 1945 - December 22, 2003
PAONIA - Paonia resident, Neysa G. Hess, joined our Lord and savior on Monday, December 22, 2003 at her home surrounded by her family after a brave battle with cancer. She was 58.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Paonia Christian Fellowship Church in Paonia. Pastor Larry Johnson will preside. Services will be at the church located at the corner of 3rd Ave. and Box Elder.
Neysa G. Hess was born on June 12, 1945, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Lester and Fern (Tinsley) Hess. She spent her childhood in Whitewater, Kansas and received her education there.
On August 12, 1993, in Bayard, New Mexico, Neysa was joined in marriage to Ralph E. Peck. He survives. They have lived in Paonia for the past 10 years and had previously lived in Bayard, New Mexico for 5 years and in Montrose, Colorado for 23 years prior to that.
Neysa previously was married to David Clifford on September 18, 1961 in Colby, Kansas. After 25 years, the marriage was dissolved.
Ms. Hess graduated from Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. She had taught at various schools prior to her illness. She was a member of the Paonia Christian Fellowship Church and will be fondly remembered for her love of flowers, books and her pets. Her hobbies included beading, cooking, calligraphy, computers and making homemade cards.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph E. Peck of Paonia; a daughter and her husband, LaVonne and Aaron Gorsuch of Grand Junction, CO; her mother and step - father, Fern and Virgil Stapelman of Tucson, AZ; one step - daughter and her husband, Kellie and Randy Spadafora of Hotchkiss, CO; two step - sons: Scott Peck of Colorado Springs, CO and Mark and wife Ricci Peck of Delta, CO; one sister and her husband LaMoyne and Gary Eilert of Valley Center, KS; and one brother, Woody Hess of Eldorado, KS. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Lauren Gorsuch and six step - grandchildren: Kelsie and Cameron Spadafora and Brandon, Bryan,
Brent and Kevin Peck.
Neysa was preceded in death by her father Lester Hess.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
