Brooke Anne Isenbart

Brooke Anne Isenbart, infant daughter of Tyler and Samantha Isenbart of Julesburg, CO, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Julesburg Christian Church, 5th & Pine, in Julesburg with Pastor Alan Harris officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery
in Julesburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Brooke’s name.

Brooke was born on December 20, 2007, in Sidney, Neb., to Tyler Leigh and Samantha Anne (Shannon) Isenbart. They made their home in Chappell before moving to Julesburg, CO.
Brooke will be remembered for always having a smile on her face and she loved everyone. She will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends.
Brooke is survived by her parents, Tyler and Samantha Isenbart and sister, Brenna Marlene Isenbart all of Julesburg; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Judi Isenbart of Chappell, NE; maternal grandparents, Earl Shannon of Bird City, KS and Belinda and Vernon Doonan of Colby, KS; maternal great-grandparents, Alberta and David Mick of Scott City, KS and Marcella and Joe Stenger of Densmore, KS; aunts and uncles, Troy and Brandy Isenbart and family of Chappell, NE, Teshawna and Troy Sawyer and family of Grand Island, NE, Nicole and Jason Holub and family of Goodland, KS, Michael Shannon of Chicago, IL, and Brian and Nichole Doonan and family of Cox Creek, KY; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Bernard and Evelyn Isenbart and Vaughn and Marlene Wilson; maternal great-grandfathers, Harrell Shannon and Lloyd Stickel.
Jeanetta Valeria Hodges
1922 - 2008
Jeanetta Valeria Hodges of Littleton, Colorado, passed away at Littleton Porter Hospital on December 2, 2008. She was born July 13, 1922, to Arthur and Helen (Boehmer) Schwartz in Ogallala, Nebraska. She attended school in Deuel County, Nebr., graduating from high school in Chappell, Nebr. She married Clifford Hodges of Julesburg on August 18, 1940, in Chappell, Nebr. They had 2 daughters.
Next to her strong faith in God, her family was the center of her life. Grandchildren were the highlight of her life, sharing many sporting and special events with her, including may trips to Oregon to spend time with family.
She is survived by daughters Jean Miller, and Carol (Ron) Manuello; grandchildren: Dana (Nathan) Zook, Clinton (Tina) Miller, Barry (Kim) Miller, Tena (Todd) Thwaites, Troy (Marcie) Manuello, T.J. (Sara) Manuello; great-grandchildren: Jeremy Zook, Joshua Zook, Kari Miller, Kendra Miller, Ryan Miller, McKenzie Miller,Danielle Miller, Shaylynn Miller, C.J. Miller, Meagan Thwaites, Natalie Thwaites, Tyler Manuello, Collin Manuello, Logan Manuello, and Garrett Manuello; great-great-grandson Jaz Zook; sisters Viola Harms and Karen Hilton; and brother Myron Schwartz. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960, by a sister, Lillian, and a brother, Vernon.
Internment was at the Julesburg Cemetery
on December 6, 2008.
Beverly Ann Ray (Mauch)
1943 - 2008
Beverly Ann Ray (Mauch), 65 passed away May 1 in Mesa, AZ following a courageous and valiant fight against cancer. Beverly was born in Lamar, Colorado on February 15, 1943 to Roy E. Mauch and Myrtle Pierson Mauch who both preceded her in death. Beverly leaves behind a husband of 46 years, Donald L. Ray, Mesa, AZ, four children, Bobby (Wanda) Ray of Elkhart, KS, Michele (Phil) Ray-Brethower of Mesa, AZ, Donald (Kim) L. Ray II of Guymon, Oklahoma, and Tracey (Deb) Ray of Mesa, AZ, and 13 grandchildren she absolutely adored. She is also survived by two brothers, Leroy (Kathy) Mauch and Galen (Kathy) Mauch of Lamar, CO, two sisters, Shirley Reeves of Lamar, CO and Darlene Mosley (Mauch) of Idaho Springs, CO, brothers and sisters in-law, Jim and Helen Ray of Wimberley, TX, Cable and Sheri Otis of Lockwood, TX and Pat Upchurch of Newton, KS. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends in the Phoenix area, as well as, friends and family in Baca and Prowers County in southeastern Colorado. Beverly’s achievements are measured by the lives she touched. She was a faithful friend to many and she was loved by everyone. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Elvis’ biggest fan ever has just joined him in heaven.
A memorial service and a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 9 at 10 am at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202, 480-838-5639. Visitation will be at 9:30 am, with a celebration reception to follow the services. All are invited to attend.

Funeral services for Michael J. Korrell, 51, of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Cheyenne Wells High School Auditorium.

Korrell was born on May 3, 1957 in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. and died on July 20, 2008 at his home in Cheyenne Wells.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Rita Korrell; grandparents; three uncles and one aunt.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Korrell of the family home in Cheyenne Wells; children, Caleb Korrell and Carli Korrell; one sister, Charlotte (Jerry) Frazzini of Denver, Colo.; aunts/uncles, Bill and Joyce Colvin of Kit Carson, Colo., Kevin and Vicki Baker of Rantoul, Ill., Gertrude Haug of Denver, Colo., Bob and Hazel Korrell of Cheyenne, Wy.; mother/father-in-law, Bill and Charlotte Woelk of Eads, Colo.; nephew, Kraig Lowe of Denver, Colo. as well as numerous other family members and many friends.

Wilhemene C. Trahern
Funeral services for Lamar resident, Wilhemene C. Trahern, age 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday July 25, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Walsh, Colo. Reverend Cecil Burhenn will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Walsh Cemetery

Visitation for Mrs. Trahern will be held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday July 24, 2008 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar.
Wilhemene Trahern was born on November 14, 1917 in Seibert, Colo. and died on Monday July 21, 2008 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side.
Mrs. Trahern was preceded in death by her father and mother, J.W. and Ruthe May Garnhart both of Pueblo; by her husband, Ora L. Trahern of Lamar on March 20, 2007; by one daughter, Judy Marinac of Lamar on January 23, 2003; and by two sisters, Floris Sutphin of Lamar and Gynuth Garnhart of Pueblo.
Mrs. Trahern is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Max) Pflughoft of Hysham, Mt.; and Betty Trahern (Manuel Rincon) of LaVeta, Colo.; by one son-in-law, Mike Marinac of Lamar; by twelve grandchildren to include, Mitchell Camp of Boulder, Colo. and Shaylene (Marvin) Rosencrans of Littleton, Colo.; by fourteen great grandchildren; and by two sisters, Adair Simmons of Modesto, Calif.; and Faye Johnson of Cottonwood, Ariz. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Funeral services for longtime Lamar, CO resident, Kenneth T. Pendergraft, age 92, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday August 13, 2008 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar. Kathy Leathers will officiate the service and burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery
in Lamar.
Visitation for Kenneth will be held from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday August 12, 2008 and prior to the service on Wednesday at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar.
Mr. Pendergraft was born on November 10, 1915 in McDonald County, Missouri and departed this life on Sunday August 10, 2008 at the Holly Nursing Care Center in Holly, CO.
Mr. Pendergraft was preceded in death by his father and mother – James T. Jacks and Inez Pendergraft; by his wife – Dorothy I. Pendergraft of Lamar on July 20, 1999; by one daughter – Betty Jones of Lamar on April 10, 2005; and by one son – Robert Thombs of Lamar on May 19, 2008.
He is survived by one daughter – Shirley (Jack) Wilson of Aurora, CO; by five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren; also surviving are numerous friends.

A graveside memorial service for Norman, Oklahoma resident, Elva “June” Tyner, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday August 16, 2008 at the Hillside Cemetery
in Granada, Colorado.
Mrs. Tyner was born on June 11, 1926 in Lamar, Colorado to Roy and Laura Frances (Souders) Eddleman and departed this life on July 17, 2008 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 82.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands – Raymond Haskell and Thomas Tyner; by one brother; four sisters; and one granddaughter.
She is survived by her children – Richard (Linda) Haskell of Newalla, OK; Karla Richert of Norman, OK; Tim Tyner of Somers, AR; and Micki (Rick) George of Oktaha, OK; by 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; by two brothers – Cecil Eddleman and Frank Eddleman both of California; by three sisters – Ruthie Karbeloh of Lowry City, MO; Lou Pettit of Lufkin, TX; and Betty (Gary) Meninger of Ft. Worth, TX; also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.

Bruce L. Kulp, Lamar, CO
1946 - 2008
A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Lamar High School Auditorium, Lamar, Colo. Daughter, Lindsay, longtime friend, Butch Weber and Rev. Ian Blacker contributed to the memorial with “Bruce” stories and accomplishments.
Bruce was born July 21, 1946 at Pottstown, Penn. to Horace and Thelma Kulp and passed away May 31, 2008 in Pueblo, Colo. with his family by his side. Bruce was 61.
Bruce lived his life with pure enjoyment. From playing baseball (catcher) in high school to working on the Silverton train while in college at Ft. Lewis in Durango, Colo. he was always out for adventure. As a basketball official, hunter safety instructor, teacher, dog lover, chef, dad, brother and friend, he was a kind and caring man. His humor brightened many a day.
The last few years of his life Bruce loved nothing better that to “shoot the breeze” with friends and family. As he so loved to say, “come back again when you can’t stay so long.”
Mr. Kulp was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Thelma Kulp. He is survived by his children, Pamela Kulp Green of Aztec, N.M., Jeffrey Kulp of Canton, Mich., Rhonda (Brian) Edwards of Arlington, Texas, Michael (Stephanie) Kulp of Shawnee, Kan., Lindsay Kulp of Pueblo, Colo. and sister Janet (Robert) Griswold of Pottstown, Penn. He is also survived by grandchildren, Lorena and James Green, Kaymin and Kassidy Edwards, Hannah Kulp and newborn, Michael G. Kulp, Jr. Numerous basketball officials, former students, longtime friends and “family by heart” Barb and Chris Heist also survive.

Funeral services are pending at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar for former Lamar resident, Ina M. McMillan, age 79. Mrs. McMillan was born on January 8, 1929 in Lane County, Kansas and died this life on July 17, 2008 in Tempe, Ariz.

Loren Tempel

Loren Tempel
A service of celebration for lifelong Big Bend area farmer/rancher, Loren Tempel will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Reverend Trevor Potter of the Wiley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Wiley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Peacock Funeral Home.
Loren was born November 28, 1936 at Lamar to Lawrence H. and Hazel B. (Goff) Tempel and died unexpectedly at his home on July 21, 2008 at the age of 71.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; uncles Bob and Ernest Tempel and a nephew Keith Tempel. He is also preceded by his maternal grandparents Roscoe and Ethel Goff and paternal grandparents Ernest Sr. and Gladys Tempel.
He is survived by his wife, Guyla Tempel of the family home in Wiley; children, Curtis (Cathy) Tempel of Wiley, Coleen (Danny) Tinnes of Lamar; grandchildren, Lauren and Luke Tinnes and Amber, Zane and Erin Tempel. He is also survived by his brother, Gale (Melody) Tempel of Wiley; nephews, Adam (Staci) Tempel and family, and Jake (Cherie) Tempel and family. Aunts and Uncles George (Georgetta) Tempel and Ethel Tempel all of Wiley and Dorothy Tempel of Fort Collins also survive.

Boneva C. “Bonnie” Hall
A Memorial Celebration for Boneva C. Hall, longtime Lamar resident and area school teacher, was held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Lamar First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rory Gillespie officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall was born January 5, 1916 at Cortez, Colorado to Thomas Archer and Floy Beatrice (Prunty) Coppinger. She passed away at her home in Lamar with her family by her side on April 28, 2007. Boneva was 91.
Bonnie, as she is also known to her family and friends, is survived by her three daughters; Betty J. Speelman of Ignacio, CO, Mary J. Jenkins of Colorado Springs, CO and Jamie A. Hall of Denver, CO. A sister, Betty (Van) Wiley of Antimony, Utah, a brother, Hurschel (Chloris) Coppinger of Cortez, CO also survive. She is also survived by ten grandsons including J. Klint (Kileen) Hall of Albuquerque, NM, granddaughter, Wendi J. (Crockett) Rider of Lamar, six great granddaughters including, Andrael Hall, Mikaela Hall, and Morgan Rider, eight great grandsons including Cole Rider as well as her sister-in-law, Bertie Jean Hall of Lamar and nine nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Hall on March 11, 2006, her parents, a brother Doyle and Lallie Coppinger, great grandsons, Storm Tyler Hall and Tiger Jordan Hall and her son-in-law, David A. Speelman.
Bonnies father had been born Cortez before the turn of the century. She was the eldest of four brothers and sisters. After she arrived, the family welcomed Doyle and Hurschel, her two brothers, and Betty, her younger sister.
As she grew up in Cortez, her father guided her toward college. She arrived at the University of Denver in the fall of 1934. Boneva accepted her first teaching job in Lamar in the fall of 1938. This began her life in Lamar which was continuous except for a brief stay in California. As the business teacher at LUHS, she had many of Lamar’s students just a few years younger than she was. On a visit at the hospital with the mother of one of her students, Bertie Jean, she met her future husband Jack Hall. They dated, but he joined the Army at the onset of World War II. Boneva left Lamar and moved to southern California to live with her sister-in-law, Chloris, and friends while they awaited the birth of her nephew, Gary. Hurschel had already been deployed with the Navy. While in CA, Jack was finishing basic training at Camp Penalton and they were married in January of 1943. Jack left for the south Pacific and Boneva worked for Hughes Aircraft until the war ended.
Boneva returned to Lamar with Jack and they began their life here. At their first daughters, Betty’s baptism, they both became members of the First Presbyterian Church. This began her 60 year membership in this church family. Boneva had a second and third daughter, Mary and Jamie in the early 50’s. She loved the outdoors and worked hard to build a beautiful home and yard for her family. She and Jack nurtured both family and home. The dust storms of the mid-fifties sent her into one of her first depressions. She had never lived anywhere that the dust could hang in the air for so long and make it impossible for her to spend time outside.
As Jamie entered Kindergarten, Boneva returned to teaching, first substituting in the Lamar schools and then teaching. She had a special bond with her mother-in-law, Lillie Hall, that allowed her to entrust her youngest daughter’s care to Lillie as she restarted her teaching career. As her husband campaigned for Assessor and her daughters grew, she taught and maintained their home. Never the house keeper, her daughters flourished, and her yard was the center of the neighborhood.
Since both an education and the church was so very important to both Boneva and Jack, they made certain that their three daughters took an active part in both. Boneva attended Woman’s Circle with her mother-in-law, Lillie, and taught Sunday school for a short time. She, Lillie, and Jack always made certain that they were available to help with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Boneva and Jack were sponsors of PYF when Betty first entered high school. But Boneva’s passion for the outdoors took hold when the church moved to its current home in 1962. While Jack mowed the new lawn, Boneva sought out every rouge dandelion in the lawn. She gave special attention to the roses along the front sidewalk.
Throughout her career, Boneva taught in every school in the county from Kindergarten at Holly to Business at Lamar Junior College. In 1965, she began teaching business at Granada. During the next 13 years she did what she loved, taught, and begrudgingly graded those necessary papers. As she retired, a new era began in her life. She had two new lights in her life. Her grandson, Klint, and granddaughter, Wendi, were new arrivals and began to enjoy “Grandma Bonnie’s” yard.
As Klint grew he visited his Grandma and Grandpa every summer and went to vacation bible school her at the church. Then Klint went with her to deliver Meals-on-Wheels and take food to the food bank as she taught him about recycling long before there were recycling centers in Lamar. Boneva and Jack loved to travel and took Klint with them to the summer Assessors meeting. Wendi moved from Campo to Lamar as she entered first grade at Washington. Grandma and Grandpa were charged with picking Wendi up after school each day so that she could stay with them until her mother, Mary, finished work. Grandma took Wendi to vacation bible school and she became the new helper for Meals-on-Wheels.
Boneva had to have known that the dementia was setting in but shared it with no one except to begin trying to give items to family members when she appeared perfectly healthy. As Klint and Wendi grew and married Kileen and Crockett respectively, she loved to travel and spend time with great grandchildren. Even after she lost two great grandsons to VLCAD, she had time to read signs and play alphabet games as she traveled with Andrael and Mikaela. Even within this last year, she was able to read to Morgan and Cole, thinking that they were Wendi and Klint. She could read the same story dozens of times and Morgan and Cole could listen to it them dozens of times. Actually, as active as they were, they probably finally heard the whole story that way.
Having volunteered many places throughout Lamar, her one wish was to remain in her own home where she could see her family, flowers, and yard every day. Thanks to the wonderful care by her family, and her caregivers, Francis Beneditez, Liz Apple, and Ashley Apple, she was able to do that. Boneva passed peacefully Saturday, April 28, 2007 with her daughter, Mary, and granddaughter, Wendi, by her side. She is Free!
