Lucille Romine, Cope

1932 - 2008

Lucille Romine, long time resident of Cope, CO, died May 6, 2008 in Maple Valley, WA, where she lived the last three and a half years. Lucille came home to us today. In her first memorium in the Akron paper for Larry, she told him to wait for her on the mountain top. It took her almost 16 years, but, she made it to the top and is now with Larry and God.
Lucille was the 5th child of William and Hazel Savage, born to them on September 3, 1932, in Holyoke, Colorado. Lucille accepted God and Jesus Christ into her heart at the age of 5 and was baptized in the Methodist Church.
At 11, her family moved to Chappell, Nebraska where she finished her schooling. As a girl growing up she worked in the cafes in the summer time. She got her first job as dishwasher at age 13. It didn’t take her long to graduate from dishwasher to waitress.
She prided herself on being a really good waitress. One early morning she served a 100 people all by herself at harvest time. She earned $100.00 in tips that harvest. Back in those days that was pretty good, considering she only made 25 cents an hour. Lucille also loved to sing. She always took choir in school and sang in the church choir. Every time a talent show came along she signed up to sing a song. She also loved to draw.
After a while, she moved to Denver, Colorado where she found a job and lived with an aunt and uncle. She lived there until she met and married Larry.
To this union 2 children were born. First a son, Mitch, and then a daughter, Becky. Lucille always had a big garden. She planed a lot of flowers and shade tress and established a lawn. If she had spare time she loved to crochet. She sold Avon for 3 years, a fun job where she met a lot of nice people.
The years flew by really fast with a lot of hard work. And suddenly both children left to make their own lives. Larry got cancer and passed away in 1992. Lucille stayed on the farm until 2004-she had been there 50 years. She moved to Maple Valley, Washington, to be close to Becky, where she lived until she died on May 6, 2008.
To mourn her passing are she son Mitch, Diana, and Rebecca Romine of LaSalle, CO, Roy Romine, her daughter Becky, Kris, Ryan and Allyssa Zillmer of Maple Valley, WA, Marjorie Christensen of Fort Meyers, FL, Leo Savage of Walden, CO, lots of nieces and nephews and other family. She was preceded in death by her father William Savage, mother Hazel Savage, husband Larry Romine, an infant brother, sister Laura Riley, brother in laws Jim Riley, Bud Christensen, and Doyle Romine, sister in laws Shirley Savage and Wilma Moss, father in law Milton Romine, mother in law Flossie Romine, sister and brother in laws Ivalene and Harold Mason, Leona and Lenney Stickle, Opal and Bob Marshall, Marion and Johnny Yager, Thelma and Carl Friend, Wilma and Charles Romine, Elsie and Levorn Romine, 1 niece Lorrie Brown, and 2 nephews Alan Mick and Kent Christensen.
Lucille had a good sense of humor and a smile for everybody. She will be missed by all.
