Zella B. Hoskin
Dec. 5, 1901 - Aug. 10, 2000

Zella B. Hoskin of Boulder died in her home Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000. She was 98.

The daughter of Edwin S. Lokie and Mary Alice Havens Lokie, she was born Dec. 5, 1901, in Kankakee, Ill. She married James E. Hoskin in 1927 in Littleton. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Hoskin came to Colorado with her family in 1906. She attended Littleton public schools and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Colorado State Teachers College at Greeley in 1926. She then taught in Louisville.

She moved to Boulder from Littleton in 1946.

She was a vocalist and pianist and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Hoskin of Boulder.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on a date to be determined.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Adam Wayne Bennett
Aug. 9, 1986 - Aug. 9, 2000

Adam Wayne Bennett of Lafayette died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Lafayette. He was 14. The cause of death is under investigation.

He was born Aug. 9, 1986, in Boulder to David Wayne Bennett and Jennifer Lynn Moffit Bennett.

He was a student.

Survivors include his parents and a sister, Stephanie Bennett, all of Lafayette.

A private family service was planned. Flowers will be accepted before noon Monday at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder.

William Kellett
July 28, 1924 - Aug. 10, 2000

William Kellett of Lafayette died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at his home. He was 76.

He was born July 28, 1924, in Lafayette to William Kellett Sr. and Nettie Channell Kellett. He married Norma Towery in 1950 in Lafayette.

Mr. Kellett worked for the federal government for 34 years, in the Postal Service and at the National Bureau of Standards.

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and served in the Merchant Marine in World War II. He was a past president and secretary of the Colorado chapter of the U.S. Merchant Marines of World War II.

He was a former member and past chief of the Lafayette Fire Department, and a member of American Legion Post 161 in Arvada and the Lafayette Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; two sons, Norman Kellett of Broomfield and Ken Kellett of Auburndale, Fla.; a stepson, Dale Portsch of Washington, D.C.; and a stepdaughter, Jeannine Thompson of El Cerrito, Calif.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Nadine Lybarger, Blanche Bertram, Delores Kellett, Dorothy Kellett and Shirley McNulty.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Avalon Chapel, 1320 Centaur Village Drive. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "A," Denver.

Everett 'Jerry' O'Connor
Oct. 3, 1936 - Aug. 10, 2000

Everett "Jerry" O'Connor of Louisville died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Denver. He was 63.

He was born Oct. 3, 1936, in rural Boulder to Vernon J. O'Connor and Mary P. Steinbach O'Connor. He married Therese Dravecky in 1960 in Louisville.

Mr. O'Connor was a carpenter. He was superintendent of construction of the Waffle House. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of Louisville; a son, Joe O'Connor of Louisville; a daughter, Jeanne Frazzell of Broomfield; a brother, Larry O'Connor of Brush; two sisters, Jean Matterson of Louisville and Mary Lou Gibson of Conway, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Thelma Seitzinger
May 23, 1917 - Aug. 9, 2000

Thelma Seitzinger of Lafayette died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, while visiting relatives in Texas. She was 83.

She was born in Boulder on May 23, 1917, to Walter Giggey and Cynthia Shearer Giggey. She married Eldon Sloss, and they were divorced; Mike DalSoglio, who died; and Harry Seitzinger, and they were divorced in 1973.

She worked as a dental assistant in Boulder for 35 years.

She was a lifelong resident of Colorado. She moved to Lafayette about 1951.

Survivors include a son, David DalSoglio of Lafayette; a daughter, Carol Adair of Friendswood, Texas; a sister, Grace Spier of Broomfield; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jacobson, and a daughter, Donna Haven.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Friendswood Methodist Church in Friendswood, Texas.

A memorial gathering will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Gate-n-Green Clubhouse, 13405 Main St., Broomfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Senior Center, program for isolated, homebound seniors, 103 S. Iowa Ave., Lafayette, CO 80026.

Kathryn Ryan
May 18, 1922 - Aug. 5, 2000

Kathryn Ryan of Boulder died Aug. 5, 2000, in Louisville. She was 78. She was born May 18, 1922, in Haverstraw, N.Y., to Frederick Mardorf and Anna Hydok Mardorf. She married Joseph Ryan on July 28, 1946, in Haverstraw, N.Y. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ryan was a nurse and a homemaker. She moved to Boulder in 1984 from Youngstown, Ohio.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Ryan of Boulder and Gary Ryan of Pukalani, Maui, Hawaii; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Walker.

A memorial service will be at noon today at Hospice Care Center, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville.

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 904 14th St., Boulder.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County Care Center, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO 80027.

Wilhelmina 'Helma' van der Geld
April 2, 1943 - Aug. 16, 2000

Wilhelmina "Helma" van der Geld of Boulder died of cancer Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Boulder. She was 57.

She was born April 2, 1943, in the Hague, Netherlands. Her adoptive parents were Jan Willem van den Abeele and Hebechina Alida Zalm van den Abeele.

She married Bill Lash in Boulder in 1974. They were divorced. She married Bruce Orr in Boulder in 1986. They were divorced.

Ms. van der Geld was a home care provider and an artist. She painted, made quilts and wearable art, played the flute and refurbished furniture.

She moved to Boulder in 1974.

Survivors include a sister, Hebi Hoevens of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

A memorial open house will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 27, with an informal service at 2 p.m., at 345 Colgate St., Boulder.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Boulder County Unit Office, 1250 S. Hover Road, Longmont, CO 80501, or to the Hospice of Boulder County Care Center, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, CO 80027.

Dwight H. Horn
Aug. 2, 1916 - Aug. 17, 2000

Dwight H. Horn of Longmont died of pneumonia Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 84.

He was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Fremont, Neb., to William R. Horn and Sara Pease Horn. He married Ruth Marjorie Murphy on July 2, 1937, in Broken Bow, Neb.

Mr. Horn was a manager for Colorado Blue Cross-Blue Shield for 33 years.

He attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Neb.

He moved to Longmont from Denver in June 1999.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a son, LeRoy Horn of Prior Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Kathy Crier of Longmont; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Horn, Byrne Horn and Norman Horn, and a son, Gary Horn.

A service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Highland Christian Church, 3350 Federal Blvd., Denver.

Contributions may be made to the National Jewish Hospital, Asthma Research, 1400 Jackson, Denver, CO 80206, or to the Longs Peak United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1421 Elmhurst Drive, Longmont, CO 80503.

Joy Beth Peterson
Feb. 12, 1953 - Aug. 11, 2000

Joy Beth Peterson of Longmont died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at her home. She was 47.

She was born Feb. 12, 1953, in Tucumcari, N.M., to Arnold Eschler and Nellie Smoot Eschler. She married Brian Peterson in 1990 in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker. She moved to Boulder County in 1993. She enjoyed hiking, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include her husband of Longmont; her parents of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Darlene Eschler of Phoenix; and two brothers, Wayne Eschler and Kenny Eschler, both of Phoenix.

Private services were held.

Erlinger Cremation & Funeral Service of Longmont was in charge of arrangements.

Catharine Lynn Adams
Dec. 19, 1950 - Aug. 19, 2000

Catharine Lynn Adams of Boulder Canyon died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at her home. She was 49.

She was born Dec. 19, 1950, in Princeton, Ill., to Wilbor and Catharine Munro Adams. She married David E. Hurst in September 1998 in Colorado.

Ms. Adams graduated from Princeton High School, where she received the "Top Musician" award. She started college at Brigham Young University in Utah, attended the University of Arizona at Flagstaff and graduated from the Sorbonne, Paris. She had a master's degree in music. She moved to Boulder 25 years ago.

She loved to hike in the Colorado mountains and climb 14ers. She did technical rock climbing, mountain biking and snow skiing. She was a massage therapist, voice teacher and artist.

Ms. Adams sang professionally under the name Lynn Adams.

Survivors include her husband; a brother, Bob Adams of Dallas, Texas; and a sister, Jill Rutherford of Downers Grove, Ill. Her parents and grandparents preceded her in death.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Howe Mortuary of Boulder is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to The Access Fund, a non-profit climbing organization, or the charity of one's choice through the funeral home office.
