Hortense M. Swilpa

Hortense M. Swilpa of Boulder died Saturday, July 1, 2000. She was 87.
She was born June 30, 1913, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Domenico and Maria Steverango. She married Charles Paul Swilpa on June 30, 1937, in Yonkers.
She moved to Shrub Oak, N.Y., in 1957 and to Port Richey, Fla., in 1972. In 1997, she moved to Boulder.
She was a member of the St. Michael's Church in Hudson, Fla., the Jasmine Lakes Women's Club. She enjoyed sewing and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two sons, Charles Paul Swilpa Jr. of Boulder and Richard Swilpa of Sea Brook, S.C.; a sister, Evelyn Kovacks of Shrub Oak; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lean Silvestri, and a brother, Peter Steverango.
A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

Michael T. Land
Sept. 13, 1947-July 2, 2000
Michael T. Land of Boulder County died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Westminster. He was 52.
The son of Gerard A. Land and Florence K. Shafer Land, he was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Chicago. He married Constance Ropski on July 18, 1970, in Chicago.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ryan of Westminster; two daughters, Erin Caviness of Englewood and Colleen Caviness of Thornton; a brother, Gerard Land of Bridgeport, Ill.; two sisters, Kathryn Spencer of Littleton and Judith Glomski of Elk Grove, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Darrell Howe Chapel, 10203 South Boulder Road, Lafayette.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder.

Cora Baltierras
April 20, 1930 - July 2, 2000
Cora Baltierras of Lafayette died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Denver. She was 70.
The daughter of Jacob Espinoza and Clotilda Espinoza, she was born April 20, 1930, in Erie. She married Manuel Baltierras on Feb. 23, 1945.
Mrs. Baltierras was a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo, sports and making tortillas.
Survivors include her husband of Lafayette; two sons, Manuel C. Baltierras of Louisville and Steve Baltierras of Westminster; five daughters, Margaret R. Vialpando and Tillie M. Archuleta, both of Lafayette, Peggy C. Chavez of Broomfield, Cynthia A. Blea of Thornton and Louise E. Espinosa of Northglenn; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 W. Simpson, Lafayette.

Annabelle Bell
Dec. 18, 1922 - July 2, 2000
Annabelle Bell of Thornton, formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, July 2, 2000. She was 77.
The daughter of Charles W. Mischke and Ethel Borders Mischke, she was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Lewiston, Mont. She married Herbert Bell on May 18, 1941, in Kalispell, Mont. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bell lived in Boulder from 1948 to 1981. She retired from Neodata in Boulder, where she worked as a data processor.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing and traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharron Kratt of Makilteo, Wash., and Dianna Dunkelberger of Broomfield; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain View Cemetery, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.

Anthony Louis 'Tony' Carpentier
Aug. 13, 1935 - July 3, 2000
Anthony Louis "Tony" Carpentier of Broomfield died Monday, July 3, 2000. He was 64.
Born Aug. 13, 1935, in Ossining, N.Y., he was the son of Louis Carpentier and Agnes Siano Carpentier. He married Jill Ann Le Boeuf in March 1958. They divorced. He married Sylvia Hymer on Jan. 14, 1988.
Mr. Carpentier graduated from New York University with a degree in electrical engineering. He moved to Boulder in 1969 from New York. In 1975, he moved to Broomfield.
He was a retired hardware engineer from Sony, Storage Tech and IBM. He formerly owned Tony's Place in Louisville.
Mr. Carpentier was a member of the Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.
Survivors include his wife of Broomfield; former wife of Broomfield; three sons, Louis A. Carpentier of Westminster, Steve Carpentier of Lafayette and Joe Carpentier of Nederland; three stepsons, Dean White of Wheat Ridge, James White of Troy, Texas, and Stephen White of Ignacio; one daughter, Laurie Carpentier-Cassidy of Broomfield; one stepdaughter, Michelle White of Englewood; three sisters, Frances Fallacaro and Anita Farquhar, both of Ossining, and Catherine Corsetti of Croton On Hudson, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church 6739 South Boulder Road in Boulder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Dorino De Lazzer will officiate.

Gaylord Lappin
Nov. 25, 1948 - July 3, 2000
Gaylord Lappin of Longmont died Monday, July 3, 2000, at his home. He was 51.
Born Nov. 25, 1948, in Boulder, he was the son of Virgil Lappin and Dorothy Jackson Lappin. He married Mary Ruggiero. They were divorced. He married Linda Murrell on Jan. 30, 1999.
He grew up in the Boulder area before moving to eastern Colorado. He graduated from Simla High School in 1966.
Mr. Lappin owned Open Water Divers shop in Lafayette and was an open water instructor. He made specialty furniture for a number of years.
He was active in Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont. He was volunteer firefighter for the city of Lafayette, and a member of Boulder Water Rescue Team.
He also served as director of Mountain View Fire Protection District, and was a member of the Limon Voluntary Ambulance Service. He served on the Lafayette City Council and was a member of the Sunrise Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Jennifer Lappin of Longmont and Jessica Lappin of Erie; a son, Jeff Lappin of Lafayette; stepson William Humphries of Erie; two sisters, Caroline Brown of Genoa, Colo., and Sharon Dauenhauer of Longmont; a brother, Gary Lappin of Pueblo; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Community Lutheran Church, 9775 Ute Road, Longmont. Rev. Dan Hansen will officiate. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
Dorothy Margaret Saunders
Oct. 27, 1922 - July 2, 2000
Dorothy Margaret Saunders of Boulder died Sunday, July 2, 2000. She was 77.
Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Schenectady, N.Y., she was the daughter of Maurice L. Moore and Christine Plunz Moore. She married Herbert W. Saunders on Aug. 9, 1941, in Berlin, N.Y.
Mrs. Saunders moved to Boulder in 1942 from New York. She worked with several University of Colorado professors and with a cleaning service. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two sons, Carl D. Saunders of Lafayette and William F. Saunders of Superior; one daughter, Harriet L. Newham of Lafayette; a sister, Brenda C. Sweet of Concord, N.C.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter O. Moore.
Funeral services were held.

Sandra Jean Collins of Boulder died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at her home. She was 39.
She was born Aug. 28, 1960, in Summit, N.J., to R. Graham Collins and Nancy Tanner Collins.
She moved to Boulder in 1995.
Survivors include her mother of Garden City Beach, S.C., and a brother, David T. Collins of Boulder.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Private family services were planned.
