Charles Edward 'Dutch' Eberl
Aug. 13, 1928 - Sept. 3, 2000

Charles Edward "Dutch" Eberl of Westminster, formerly of Superior, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at the Clear Creek Care Center in Westminster. He was 72.

Born Aug. 13, 1928, in Superior, he was the son of Charles E. Eberl and Richie A. Hutchinson Eberl. He married Sonja Evanoff in Boulder County. They divorced.

Mr. Eberl worked in automobile-related jobs in Louisville and Boulder until he was disabled in the early 1970s.

He enjoyed country music and professional sports.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Kay Eberl; a sister, Carol A. Arlich of Redding, Calif.; a brother, Jack D. Eberl of Escondido, Calif.; a half-brother, Jerry W. Kuntz of Boulder; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Eberl, in 1982.

Services are pending.

Rice Mortuary in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Ferris
July 6, 1916 - Sept. 3, 2000

Robert J. Ferris of Longmont died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. He was 84.

The son of Edward J. Ferris and Helena McCarthy Ferris, he was born July 6, 1916, in New York City. He married Harriet Sheridan on July 10, 1947, in Libby, Mont. She died Sept. 25, 1977.

Mr. Ferris completed two years of college, studying forestry. He served with the Army's 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II.

He was a park ranger for the National Park Service, retiring from Olympic National Park in Washington.

Mr. Ferris moved to Boulder County in 1998.

He enjoyed writing, hiking, skiing, mountain climbing and camping; he climbed Mount Kilamanjaro when he was 73.

Survivors included two daughters, Maura Arroyo of San Clemente, Calif., and Susan Kibler of Longmont; a son, Edward Ferris, of Jakarta, Indonesia; and a brother, George Ferris of Tucson, Ariz.

No services are planned.

Erlinger Cremation & Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

David Paul Schwartz
May 28, 1956 - Sept. 3, 2000

David Paul Schwartz of Boulder died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at home. He was 44.

Born May 28, 1956 in Passaic, N.J., he was the son of Abe Schwartz and Marcia Weinberg Schwartz.

Mr. Schwartz graduated from the University of Colorado in 1979 and stayed in Boulder.

He owned an animal house-sitting service.

Survivors include his brother, Harvey Schwartz of Denver; and a sister, Leslie Schutzman of New Jersey.

A memorial gathering will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Sanitas Valley trailhead in Boulder.

William 'Willie' Garcia
Sept. 1, 1924 - Aug. 14, 2000

William "Willie" Garcia of Greeley, formerly of Lafayette, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000. He was 75

He was born Sept. 1, 1924, in Marshall , to Daniel Garcia and Stella Cruz Garcia. He married Helen Madeline Garcia on Feb. 9, 1957, in Boulder. She died May 13, 1998.

He served in the Army in the Korean War.

He worked in construction and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Mr. Garcia was raised in Lafayette, before he moved in to Greeley in 1963.

Survivors include his nine children, Daniel Garcia, Anthony Garcia, Debbie Roybal, Darlene Garcia, Raymond Garcia, Martin Garcia and Ramona Serda, all of Greeley, Francis Gonzales of Carpenter, Wyo., and Maria Stell Garcia of Tucson, Ariz.; nine siblings, Irene Maestas of Englewood, Calif., Virginia Garcia of Fullerton, Neb., Dorothy Garcia, Ernie Garcia, Julian Garcia, all of Denver, Marie Reyonoso of Gilbert, Ariz., Maynard Garcia of Las Vegas, Nev., Dolores Cardenas of Lafayette, and Barbara Mendez of Longmont; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Greeley. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Allnut Funeral Home, 702 13th St., Greeley.

Oral J. Gassler
Nov. 23, 1919 - Aug. 13, 2000

Oral J. Gassler of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. He was 80.

He was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Westfrankfort, Ill., to Paul Gassler and Edna Gill Gassler. He married Margie Deines in 1945 in Boulder. She preceded him in death in 1993.

He graduated from West High School in Denver and worked for Rockwell International for 29 years.

He served in the Air Force during World War II.

Survivors include his two sons, Randy Gassler of Boulder and Mike Gassler of Lewistown, Mont.

No services are being held.

Philip Merran
Aug.17, 1946 - Aug. 12, 2000

Philip Merran of Boulder died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2000. He was 53.

He was born Aug. 17, 1946, in New York, N.Y., to Murray Hammerling and Gladys Bickel Hammerling. He married Nino Iremashvili on Sept. 15, 1996, in Denver.

He received his bachelor's degree in education in 1966 from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, Calif. He graduated from the Naropa University in May of 1998 with a bachelor's degree in contemplative psychology. He was attending the graduate school at Naropa University in the Department of Engaged Buddhism studying hospice counseling.

He was a resident of Boulder since 1996, coming to the area from Santa Cruz, Calif.

He was a former high school teacher for Santa Cruz High School.

He is survived by his wife of Boulder.

Private family services were held.

Mary Hutchinson Minneman
Dec. 6, 1930 - Aug. 14, 2000

Mary Hutchinson Minneman, formerly of Boulder County, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz. She was 69.

She was born Dec. 6, 1930, in McAlister, Okla., to Robert Hutchinson and Helen Cornish Hutchinson. She married John Henry Minneman on Oct. 11, 1952.

She lived in Boulder County from 1960 to 1994 and moved to Tucson in 1994. Her parents founded the Wind River Guest Ranch in Estes Park.

She worked as an office manager for Dakota Ridge Medical Center in Boulder.

Survivors include her husband of Tucson; two daughters, Martha Sullivan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Molly Minneman of Crested Butte; and one grandson.

The family will scatter her ashes this fall in the Longs Peak area.

Virginia 'Pat' Wolzien
June 12, 1918 - Aug. 14, 2000

Virginia "Pat" Wolzien of Boulder died of breast cancer Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Louisville. She was 82.

She was born June 12, 1918, in Muskegon, Mich., to Edward Lorenz and Catherine Arenz Lorenz. She married Eldred Carl Wolzien at the beginning of World War II. He died in 1998.

She received a teaching degree from Wisconsin State University and taught high school English in Wisconsin. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1942 and to Boulder in 1954.

Mrs. Wolzien was an advocate for school libraries, becoming one of Boulder's first elementary school teacher-librarians in the 1960s. She taught at Whittier and Washington elementary schools from 1960 to 1980. She belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma organization for school librarians.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Wolzien of Boulder and Tom Wolzien of New York; and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at First Congregational Church, 1128 Pine St., Boulder.

Emma L. Robinson
March 25, 1900 - June 14, 2000

Emma L. Robinson of Boulder died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Boulder. She was 100.

Born March 25, 1900, in Big Rapids, Mich., she was the daughter of Charles Lockwood and Hattie Hill Lockwood. She married Alfred H. Robinson in 1927.

She graduated cum laude from Battle Creek School of Nursing in 1921. She was on the nursing staff of the Kellogg Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Battle Creek and worked as a visiting nurse through Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Mrs. Robinson lived most of her life in Pontiac, Mich., retired to Bradenton, Fla., and later moved to Boulder.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Robinson of Pontiac, Mich., and Judith Lochtefeld of Nantucket, Mass; a son, David Robinson of Boulder; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday in Pontiac., Mich., followed by interment at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Mich.

Lewis E. Wint and Son Funeral Home in Clarkston, Mich., is in charge of arrangements.
