Mary E. Berry
March 29, 1912 - Nov. 22, 1999

Mary E. Berry of Longmont died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Applewood Care Center in Longmont. She was 87.

She was born March 29, 1912, in Grand Junction to Richard Bond and Leona Uletta Lampshire Bond. She married Ira Lee "Tex" Berry in 1933 in Grand Junction. He died Aug. 10, 1980.

She worked for Kresses department store in the early 1930s and for Smith Chemical Co. and McKesson Chemical Co. in 1976. She volunteered as a foster grandparent in Mesa County until 1980.

Mrs. Berry moved to Longmont in 1999.

She graduated from Grand Junction High School in Mesa County.

She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and being a foster grandparent.

Survivors include a sister, Bonnie Kohl of Allenspark; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Lee Quinton; and three brothers, Ralph Bond, Richard Bond and Francis Bond.

Services are pending.

Interment will be in Grand Junction.

Contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1250 S. Hover Road, Suite F2, Longmont, CO 80501 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Michael E. O'Shea
April 4, 1944 - Nov. 22, 1999

Michael E. O'Shea of Boulder died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Boulder. He was 55.

He was born April 4, 1944, in Denver to William J. O'Shea and Patricia Forte O'Shea. He married Kate Tilghman April 8, 1984, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

He was an insurance broker for Flood and Peterson Insurance Agency since 1975. He opened an agency in Boulder in 1985.

Mr. O'Shea lived in Boulder for 15 years.

He graduated from the University of Denver.

He was a member of the Boulder Country Club and was a board member and former president of the Developmental Disability Center. He enjoyed golfing, exercising, scuba diving and sailing.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; his parents of Denver; a son, Daniel O'Shea; three brothers, Timothy O'Shea, Kevin O'Shea and Patrick O'Shea, all of Denver; and a sister, Ann Owens of Denver.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place. A rosary will be recited following the visitation at the mortuary.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 1311 Oneida St., Denver.

Contributions may be made to the Developmental Disabilities Center, 1400 Dixon Ave., Lafayette, CO 80026.

Patricia 'Pats' Johnson
March 19, 1921 - Nov. 22, 1999

Patricia "Pats" Johnson of Lafayette died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Longmont. She was 78.

She was born March 19, 1921, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Joseph Maloy and Helen McWilliams Maloy. She married Walter T. Johnson in 1941 in Staten Island. He died in 1983.

Mrs. Johnson was a teacher at St. Aloysius School in Calwell, N.J., for several years. She was a homemaker for most of her life.

She did volunteer work for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Senior Center in Lafayette. She moved to Lafayette from Bricktown, N.J., in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Zachary Johnson of Manassas, Va., Gregory Johnson of Missoula, Mont., and Stephen Johnson of Seven Lakes, N.C.; a sister, Elizabeth Stiles of Lafayette; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Maloy.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated tonight at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 W. Simpson St., Lafayette. Call the church at (303) 665-5103 for the time and other information. Cremation will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to St. Vincent De Paul Society, 1300 S. Steele St., Denver, CO 80210.

BERNARD 'DOC' DOUGHERTY

Nov. 16, 1919 - Nov. 23, 1999

Bernard "Doc" Dougherty of Boulder died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999. He was 80.

The son of Edward P. Dougherty and Clara R. Gaertner Dougherty, he was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Blue Island, Ill. He married M. Lorraine Regan on March 31, 1948, in Leroy, Minn.

He graduated from St. Leo's High School in Chicago and Austin Community College in Minnesota.

Mr. Dougherty served in the Coast Guard in the North Atlantic aboard the USS Peterson in World War II.

He owned and operated a cafe in Leroy, Minn., in the 1950s, then worked for IBM as an inventory specialist for 29 years, retiring in 1986.

He had been a resident of Boulder since 1965.

A member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Boulder, he enjoyed making rosaries and crucifixes and donating them.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; four sons, Patrick Dougherty of Arvada, Mark Dougherty of Aurora, Don Dougherty of Arlington, Va., and Richard Dougherty of Wheat Ridge; two daughters, Kathleen Springer of Arvada and Diane Robb of Wheat Ridge; two brothers, the Rev. William Dougherty of Carthagena, Ohio, and John Dougherty of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sisters, Sister Betty Dougherty of La Mesa, Calif., Patricia Flax of Chicago, and Sister Xavier Dougherty of Pontiac, Ill.; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Youngblood.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today, with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. in Crist Mortuary Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder.

services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1317 Mapleton Ave., Boulder.

Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

MIRIAM JACKSON EMERY

Aug. 10, 1901 - Nov. 23, 1999

Miriam Jackson Emery of Boulder died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Frasier Meadows Manor in Boulder. She was 98.

She was born Aug. 10, 1901, in Logan, Utah, to James Jackson and Alice Hatch Jackson. She married Roy William Emery in 1936 in Hawaii. He died in 1994.

She was a home economist for Hawaii Electric Co.

Mrs. Emery moved to Boulder in 1995, after living in Honolulu for 70 years. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Emery of Boulder and John Emery of Lawaii, Hawaii; and six grandchildren.

Services will be in Honolulu, with interment in Laie Cemetery in Honolulu.

Crist Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

SHARON GLADDEN

Sept. 2, 1943 - Nov. 22, 1999

Sharon Gladden of Longmont died of cancer at her home in Longmont on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. She was 56.

The daughter of Clarence and Doris Root Wickersham, she was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Rapid City, S.D. She married Gene Gladden on Jan. 24, 1986, in Lyons.

She moved to Boulder from Rapid City in 1946, to Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1964, and to Longmont in 1983. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1961.

Mrs. Gladden worked as a telephone operator for Neodata, for NASCAR in California, for Ball Brothers from 1983 to 1985 in Boulder, and for Staodyne from 1985 to 1997, until retiring for health reasons.

She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of John Harold Buckley American Legion Post 32 of Longmont. Mrs. Gladden was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed crafts, fishing, camping, jigsaw puzzles and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of Longmont; her parents of Boulder; a son, Cory Wiley of Wisconsin; five daughters, Velynda Wiley of Longmont, Stacey Wiley of Idaho Springs and Tami Gladden, Dawn Watts and Traci Gladden, all of Denver; a sister, Peggy Hassman of Boulder; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, with the Rev. Richard Price of Trinity Baptist Church officiating.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1590 Broadway, Boulder 80302.

LUCILE GILLESPIE

May 26, 1899 - Nov. 22, 1999

Lucile Gillespie of Boulder died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Boulder. She was 100.

She was born May 26, 1899, in Bloomington, Ill., to Frank Gillespie and Laura Sharp Gillespie.

Ms. Gillespie moved to Boulder in 1954.

She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and her master's in mathematics from Columbia University.

She taught high school math for 11 years. She then worked for the National Bureau of Standards' radio frequency prediction services. She retired in 1964.

In 1938, while she was at the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Children's School in Normal, Ill., she was elected to Delta Kappa Gamma, a national honorary teachers society. She was the treasurer for the Gamma Chapter for 14 years. She also was a member of the American Recorder Society in Denver.

Ms. Gillespie enjoyed classical music and literature.

Cremation has occurred.

Interment will be at a later date in Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.

Dorothy Collins
Feb. 27, 1902 - Nov. 22, 1999
Dorothy Collins of Boulder died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Boulder. She was 97.

The daughter of Harrison J. Bettes and Charlotta Braun Bettes, she was born Feb. 27, 1902, in Denison, Texas. She married C. Philip Collins on June 18, 1926, in New York, N.Y. He died in 1993.

She graduated from the University of Oklahoma school of journalism.

Mrs. Collins moved to Boulder from Denver in 1969. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, PEO Chapter DH and the Boulder Country Club for 25 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Jones of Littleton and Phillis Moore of Boulder; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Moore in 1979.

Services were held. Entombment was in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.

Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2450 S. Downing St., Denver, CO 80210, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
