Billy Charles Archer
Dec. 19, 1929 - Nov. 4, 1999

Billy Charles Archer of Lafayette died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. He was 69.

He was born Dec. 19, 1929, in Memphis, Texas, to Elbert G. Archer and Blanche Alford Archer. He married Jenene Miller on June 20, 1954, in Memphis, Texas.

Reverend Archer graduated from Memphis High School in 1947, and from Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1967. He attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth from 1968 to 1971. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Reverend Archer was a pastor for the past 38 years. Most recently he was pastor emeritus of Mountain View Southern Baptist Church of Lafayette; pastor of First Southern Baptist Church of Canon City; The New Life Baptist Church of Elyria, Ohio; the Southside Baptist Church of Granbury, Texas; and the First Baptist Church of LaLuz, N.M.

He was a member of the Mountain View Southern Baptist Church of Lafayette, and the Boulder Ministerial Association of Boulder County. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed playing the guitar. He moved to Boulder County from Canon City 15 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; a son, David Archer of Henderson, Nev.; four daughters, Billenda Osborne of Santa Barbara, Calif., Sharon Logan of Columbus, Ohio, Cynthia Story of Pueblo West, and Connie Trujillo of Craig; two brothers, George Archer of Houston, Texas, and Dempy Archer of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; a sister, Laverne Joiner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kent Archer in 1985; two stepbrothers, Gilbert Archer and J.E. Archer; and his stepsister, Lucille.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Southern Baptist Church, 700 West South Boulder Road, Lafayette.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Mountain View Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Nowlin of Crestview Baptist Church of Farmington, N.M., the Rev. Bill Irwin (retired) pastor and director of Missions for the Royal Gorge area, and the Rev. Matthew Boardwell of Mountain View Southern Baptist Church of Lafayette officiating.

Private family graveside services will be held Tuesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Contributions may be made to Mountain View Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, 700 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette 80026.

Mabel V. Barney
Sept. 30, 1915 - Nov. 2, 1999

Mabel V. Barney of Rye, Colo., formerly of Boulder, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, in Pueblo. She was 84.

She was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Bakersville, N.C., to John Morgan and Carrie Melton Morgan. She married Glenn H. Barney.

Mrs. Barney was a school teacher and homemaker. She was active in her church, where her husband was the minister.

She lived in Boulder County from 1943 to 1945.

Survivors include two sons, Kember Barney of Aurora and Philip Barney of Portland, Ore.; and a sister, Gladys McGee of Mobile, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at Rye Home United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lesley Barnett officiating. Interment will be private in Rye Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rye Home United Methodist Church, 2063 Main St., Rye, CO 81069.

Antoinette Martinez
Feb. 20, 1917 - Nov. 3, 1999

Antoinette Martinez of Boulder died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Terrace Heights Care Center. She was 82.

She was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Parkview, N.M., to Bernardo Rivera and Elvira Maestas Rivera. She married Andrew Apodaca in August 1935. He died in May 1954. She married Bill Martinez in 1959. They were divorced in the 1970s.

Mrs. Martinez had been a self-employed beautician at Miss Toni Shear Cut of Denver. She moved to Boulder from Denver in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Charles Apodaca of Denver; two daughters, Marie Stroh of Denver and Andrea Hogan of Boulder; three sisters, Cordelia Watts, Frances Zimmer, and Mary Lou Fogarty, all of California; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1954.

A Memorial Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary, 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge.

Cremation has occurred.

Contributions may be contributed to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association Inc., Rocky Mountain Chapter, 789 Sherman St. No. 500, Denver, CO 80203-3532.

M.E. Pegan
July 28, 1957 - Nov. 2, 1999

M.E. Pegan of Boulder died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, in Boulder of natural causes. She was 42.

She was born July 28, 1957, in Detroit, Mich., to Nicholas Pegan and Stella Szollosy Pegan.

Miss Pegan was a registered nurse and practitioner of healing arts.

She was a member of organizations of her profession. She moved to Boulder in 1991 from Michigan.

Survivors include four sisters, Kathi Pegan of White Lake, Mich., Susan Pegan of Detroit, Michele Greenan of Trevor City, Mich., and Dawn Williams of Boulder.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Pegan.

Phyllis A. Snyder
Feb. 17, 1934 - Nov. 4, 1999

Phyllis A. Snyder of Boulder died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 65.

She was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Fremont, Neb., to Jerry Ruzicka and Alice Dunker Ruzicka. She married Ernie Snyder on Jan. 27, 1957, in Fremont.

She received a teaching degree from Midland College in Fremont. She moved to Boulder 40 years ago.

Mrs. Snyder was a teacher at Mountain Shadows Montessori School for 10 years. She taught fourth grade.

She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Boulder. Mrs. Snyder was a supporter of Boulder Philharmonic and the American Cancer Society, organizing fund-raising events.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; a son, Eliot Snyder of Boulder; a daughter, Erin Snyder of Boulder; and a sister, Genelle Honey of Fremont.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at her home at 6000 Jay Road, Boulder, with the Rev. John Hess of First Presbyterian Church of Boulder officiating.

Kenneth Bromley
Feb. 22, 1950 - Nov. 4, 1999

Kenneth Bromley of Louisville died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, from cancer in Denver. He was 49.

He was born Feb. 22, 1950, in Denver to William Bromley and Judith Carson Bromley.

Mr. Bromley was a plumber with All City Plumbing.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He moved to Boulder County in 1997.

Survivors include four sisters, Janet Salazer of Boulder, Anne Weston of Longmont, Mary Hildenbrant of Fort Collins and Jennifer Bromley of Boulder.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Avalon Chapel, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette. Private graveside services will be held.

David C. Vovak
Jan. 3, 1967 - Nov. 3, 1999

David C. Vovak of Broomfield died of natural causes Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, in Broomfield. He was 32.

He was born Jan. 3, 1967, in Houston to the Rev. Ernest Vovak and Inge Davidsen Vovak. He married Lori Menninger on Jan. 7, 1996, in Olympia, Wash.

Mr. Vovak was a broker for Liberty Mutual Funds for five years in Denver.

He was a member of the New Apostolic Church in Northglenn. He sang in the church choir and was a music composer.

He lived in Broomfield for four years.

Survivors include his wife of Broomfield; a son, Christian Vovak, 2; a daughter, Emily Vovak, 6 months; his parents of Westminster; and a sister, Diane Doderer of Westminster.

Funeral services were held.

Contributions may be made to the New Apostolic Church, 11010 Roseanna Drive, Northglenn, CO 80234.

DOYLE FITZKE

Oct. 11, 1928 - Nov. 5, 1999

Doyle Fitzke of Longmont died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 71.

He was born to George Fitzke and Mary Williams Fitzke on Oct. 11, 1928, in Hastings, Neb. He married Harriet Grace Grothaus on Dec. 23, 1950, in Hastings.

Mr. Fiske moved to Longmont in 1960 from Nebraska. He was a member of Plumber Pipe Fitters Local Union No. 208, working at Dow Chemical for 10 years, Johnson Controls for 12 years and as an engineering supervisor for Boulder Community Hospital until his retirement in 1994. For the last few years, he was a part time handyman at the Fox Hill Country Club.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and a life member of American Legion Post No. 32.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Sonja Cormier and Cindy Eikenberg, both of Longmont; two sons, Tom Fitzke of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Brad Fitzke of Loveland; a twin brother, Dayle Fitzke of Kearney, Neb; a sister, Beverly Rich of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Kissinger.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary chapel, with the Rev. Mr. William Lee officiating and American Legion Post No. 32 providing military honors.

Contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Colorado in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.

Eugene Burnkrant
Sept. 8, 1913 - Nov. 4, 1999

Eugene Burnkrant of Arvada, formerly of Boulder, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999 in Wheat Ridge. He was 86.

He was born Sept. 8, 1913, in New York City, to Joseph Burnkrant and Sophia Collins Burnkrant. He married Beatrice Anderson in 1939.

He was a teacher, high school principal and for many years superintendent of schools in a number of communities, including Boulder, where he served from 1964 to 1967. He began his career as a biology teacher and coach in the Marshfield High School in Wisconsin. He retired in 1979, after a five-year assignment in Germany for the Department of Defense. He moved to Arvada in 1979, where he served as assistant Colorado state superintendent of schools for two years.

Mr. Burnkrant earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, with a major in biology and a minor in English. He received a master's degree at the University of Vermont and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He played on the football and hockey teams at Dartmouth. His early years were spent in Wood-Ridge, N.J., where he was successful in athletics, particularly in football, hockey and track.

He was a member of Arvada Covenant Church.

Survivors include his wife of Arvada; two sons, Robert Burnkrant of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard Burnkrant of Arvada; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held. Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery of Denver.

Crown Hill Mortuary of Denver was in charge of arrangements.
