Ethel B. Anderson
August 2, 1918 - September 2, 2003
Crawford, CO - Resident, Ethel Bernice Anderson,died on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Country Ease Assisted Living Center in Crawford, Colorado. She was 85.
A private family memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2003 at Barbara’s home. Rev. Bob DeRouen will officiate.
Ethel Bernice McCulloch was born to the late Lawrence and Bessie (Risedorph) McCulloch on August 2, 1918 in Brainerd, Minnesota. She spent her childhood and attended school there.
On June 20, 1940, in Brainerd, Minnesota Ethel married Gerald P. Anderson. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Anderson was a secretary for an auto repair company. She loved reading, playing cards and watching the Price Is Right on television.
Survivors grateful in sharing Ethel’s life include one daughter, Barbara Hoffart and her husband Joseph of Cedaredge, Colorado; three grandchildren, Mark Hoffart of Denver, CO; Curt Hoffart of Las Vegas, NV; Lisa Trattler of Las Vegas, NV. Ethel is further survived by two great - grandchildren, Jordan Hoffart of Las Vegas, NV and Taylor Morgan Hoffart of Las Vegas, NV.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters: Alice Swanson and Eileen Pratt and a brother George McCulloch.

Katherine “Kay” M. Sterk
November 10, 1910 - August 24, 2003
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Katherine “Kay” Sterk, died on Sunday, August 24, 2003, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe, Colorado. She was 92.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 4, 2003, at the Crested Butte Cemetery
in Crested Butte, Colorado, with Father Nathanael Foshage officiating.
Katherine Margaret Gallowich was born on November 10, 1910, to Martin and Margaret (Jaklic) Gallowich in Crested Butte, Colorado. She spent her early childhood days in Crested Butte and attended school there. Kay and her family moved to Gunnison, Colorado, in 1947, and she lived there until moving to Delta in 1971. For the past thirty - two years Kay has called Delta her home.
On October 25, 1929, Kay married Peter M. Sterk in Crested Butte. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1969, in Delta.
Kay, a homemaker, was a fabulous baker and known for all of her wonderful baked goodies. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta.
Those grateful to have shared in Kay’s life include a son, John P. Sterk and his wife Nancy of Rush City, MN; two daughters: Joan Tyler of Delta, CO, and Patricia Coleman of Pueblo, CO; two sisters: Josephine Perko and Julia Sporcich both of Denver, CO. She is further survived by ten grandchildren: Elizabeth Sterk, Peter Sterk, Mike Coleman, Pat Coleman, Kathy Adams, Robert Coleman, Terry K. Morris, Pam Braddy, Sue Bruner, and Lauri Hoefner; fourteen great - grandchildren; and four great - great - grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Peter, Kay was also preceded in death by a daughter Loretta Sterk; and a grandson, Billy Coleman.

Robert W. Gladfelder
June 20, 1929 - August 21, 2003
DELTA - Delta resident, Robert W. Gladfelder died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta, Colorado. He was 74.
There are no services planned.
Robert William Gladfelder was born on June 20, 1929 in Rock Island, Illinois to Claude and Amy Gladfelder. He spent his childhood and attended school in Centerville, Iowa.
Robert had been a truck driver. He moved to Delta 12 years ago. He was a member of the Delta Elks Lodge. His interests included watching football and baseball.
He is survived by his father, Claude Gladfelder of Delta.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Amy Gladfelder and two brothers, James and Richard Gladfelder.

Ruby W. Holgate
May 17, 1912 - August 18, 2003
ECKERT - Eckert resident, Ruby W. Holgate, died Monday, August 18, 2003, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. She was 91.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30th at Evergreen Cemetery
in Carbondale, Colorado. Ruby’s son, Harold Holgate will preside.
Ruby Wanda Dawson was born on May 17, 1912, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to the late Birl Leon and Artelia Ival (Lansdown) Dawson. She spent her childhood in Colorado and graduated from Garfield County High School in Glenwood Springs. She continued her education at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.
Ruby was joined in marriage to Howard H. Holgate on September 27, 1933, in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1954, in Glenwood Springs. Ruby and Howard raised their family in Carbondale. After Howard’s death, she went to work for the State Home and Training School in Grand Junction, Colorado, where she worked as a nursing attendant and retired after several years of service. She then made her home in Aurora, Colorado, where she spent several years before moving to Eckert where she remained until her death.
Ruby was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints in Cedaredge. She was also a past member of the Order of Eastern Star in Carbondale. She enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, and most all loved caring for others, especially children.
Survivor’s grateful to have shared in Ruby’s life include one daughter, Sally Gould of Aurora, CO; two sons: Harold Holgate and wife Shirley of Cedaredge, CO, and Bill Holgate and wife Grace of Grand Junction, CO; two sisters: Julia Worley of Fruita, CO and MayZell Merrill of Grand Junction, CO; and one brother, Ronald Dawson, of Mesa, Arizona. She is further survived by nine grandchildren and twenty - two great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, four brothers, and her grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Horizon’s Care Center and Retirement Community, 1141 Hwy 65, Eckert, CO 81418.

James Claire Lane
January 8, 1915 - August 17, 2003
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Claire Lane, died on Sunday, August 17, 2003, at Paonia Care and Rehab Center in Paonia, Colorado. He was 88.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20th at Friends Church in Paonia. Pastor Gaylen Kinser will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Paonia.
James Claire Lane was born on January 8, 1915, to David Forest and Myrtle Mae (Moore) Lane in Clearfield, Iowa. He spent his early childhood days in Blunt, S.D. In 1933, Claire moved to Paonia, Colorado, where he has made his home for the past seventy years.
On June 21, 1938, Claire married Ethyl Mae Williams in Delta, Colorado. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1998, in Grand Junction, Colorado. To this union three sons were born: Lauren, Gary, and Leonard.
Mr. Lane spent over forty - two years operating a truck company. He hauled cattle, sheep, hay, and coal. He attended the Friends Church in Paonia. Claire enjoyed watching school sports games. He also drove a bus for the Senior Citizens organization in Paonia.
Those grateful to have been a part of Claire’s life include three sons: Lauren Lane and his wife Patricia of Lincoln, CA, Gary Lane of Paonia, CO, and Leonard Lane and his wife Mary of Rangely, CO; and a sister, Mabel Shore of Olympia, WA. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Brett Lane, Sandra Mobley, Derek Lane, and Leonard Lane, Jr.; four great - grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethyl of sixty years; and four brothers.

Mathew W. “Bill” Gallob
October 3, 1939 - August 14, 2003
PAONIA - Lifelong North Fork resident, Mathew W. “Bill” Gallob, died on Thursday, August 14, 2003, at his residence. He was 63.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia, Colorado, on Friday evening, August 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August, 16, 2003, at Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Paonia, Colorado. Pastor Larry Johnson will officiate. Graveside rites will be conducted by the UMWA #6417.
Mathew William Gallob was born on October 3, 1939, to Fred William and Katherine Rose (Mihelich) Gallob in Bowie, Colorado. He spent the first sixteen years of his life in Bowie and then moved to Paonia, graduating from Paonia High School in 1958. Bill then continued his education by attending a welding school in Rifle, Colorado, and Hydraulics School in Price, Utah. He traveled with Fluor Daniel Construction Company from 1986 to 1991.
On July 26, 1958, Bill married Vera June Weller in Paonia, Colorado. She survives.
Bill was a member of the Paonia Christian Fellowship Church in Paonia. He belonged to the UMWA, the NRA, North Fork Horse Patrol, Rod and Gun Club, and Western Horizons RV Resorts. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and RV’ing. Bill loved being with his family and having his favorite dog, Rottie, near him. His hobby of gardening and raising roses gave him much pleasure. He had also made a fish pond that he was very proud of.
Those grateful to have shared in Bill’s life include his wife, Vera Gallob of Paonia, CO; a daughter, Sandy George and her husband John of Paonia, CO; three brothers: Joseph Gallob of Somerset, CO, Frank Gallob and his wife Bonnie of Leadville, CO; three sisters: Gail Frasier and her husband Don, Kay McCall and her husband Jess all of Delta, CO, and Mary Ann Schofield of Florence, OR; a father - in - law, Harrison Weller of Paonia, CO. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Mathew Gallob, Samantha George, and John C. George; and one great - grandchild: Hunter Gallob.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine Gallob; a son, Rocky Mathew Gallob; mother - in - law, June Weller; brother - in - law, Paul Schofield; and a niece, Joann Weller.

D. Helen Chick
June 1, 1931 - August 13, 2003
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Helen Chick, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 72.
No services are planned.
Dorothy Helen Shadden was born on June 1, 1931, to William and Dorothy Alice (Turner) Shadden in Phoenix, Arizona. She spent her early childhood in El Paso, Texas and then later moved to Colorado. She attended schools in Texas and Colorado. She spent the last sixty years of her life in Delta, Colorado.
On November 19, 1953, Helen married Melvin R. Chick in Delta, Colorado. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1992, in Delta.
Helen was a homemaker. She loved horses and always had some in the pasture next to her house to enjoy.
Those grateful to have shared in Helen’s life include a son, Bill Chick of Delta, Colorado; a daughter, ReyeAnn Holland and her husband Joe of Ruidoso, New Mexico. She is further survived by three grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Melvin.

Clara M. Fredrick
September 3, 1914 - August 9, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Surface Creek area resident Clara M. Fredrick, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. She was 88.
A funeral mass is planned for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 13th at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Cedaredge, Colorado. Father Mark Bettinger will preside.
Clara Margaret Abel was born on September 3, 1914, to the late August and Mary (Marshall) Abel in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She spent her childhood in Holyoke and graduated from South Hadley High School in 1930. Clara lived in South Hadley, Massachusetts for fourteen years before moving to the Phoenix, Arizona area, where she lived for thirty - one years. The next seventeen years were spent in San Jose, California. Clara then moved to Eckert in 1998, where she resided until her death.
On October 11, 1934, four years after graduation, Clara married Clifford Eugene Fredrick in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1972. Mrs. Fredrick was an elementary school teacher at St. Catherine’s Parochial School for seventeen years. She enjoyed poetry, drawing, crossword puzzles, and especially loved to read mysteries.
Those grateful to have shared in Clara’s life include two sons: Clifford E. Fredrick and wife Viney of Cedaredge, CO, and Christopher S. Fredrick and wife Sandy of Glendale, AZ; two daughters: Mary H. Mitchell and husband Ed of Prescott, AZ, and Lillian C. Greer and husband Doug of San Jose, CA; and a sister - in - law, Ella Abel of South Hadley Falls, MA. She is further survived by fourteen grandchildren and twenty - three great - grandchildren.
Along with her parents, and her husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Fred, George, and Chester Abel and a step - brother, Ed Cassidy.

Edna S. Duran
November 18, 1955 - August 7, 2003
DELTA - Lifelong Delta resident, Edna S. Duran, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 47.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August, 11th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel following the visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 12th, at the First Assembly of God in Delta with Pastor Lee Ponder and Pastor Ezequiel Leija officiating. Interment will follow at Delta City Cemetery.
Edna S. Velasquez was born on November 18, 1955, to Ramon and Grace (Rodriguez) Velasquez in Delta, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Delta and graduated from Delta High School in 1975.
Edna married Luben Duran on June 30, 1979, in Delta, Colorado, The had just celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in June. He survives.
Mrs. Duran was a homemaker and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Delta. She was very involved in her family’s life and loved to watch her daughters play ball.
Those grateful to have shared in Edna’s life include her husband, Luben of Delta; three daughters: Gracie Duran, Kristina Duran, and Amanda Duran all of Delta; her mother and step - father, Grace and Adolph Mora of Montrose; three brothers: Pete Velasquez and his wife Carla, Ernie Velasquez and his wife Kristine, and Ramon Velasquez all of Delta; six sisters: Cora Velasquez, Marina Martinez and husband Ranaldo, Priscilla Velasquez and Daniel Cano, Neddy Grajeda and husband Lenard, all of Delta, Lucy Archuletta and husband Ricky of Salt Lake City, UT, and Amy Kissner and her husband Tim of Cedaredge.
Edna was preceded in death by her father, Ramon Velazquez and father - in - law, Ruben Duran.
